Chapter 8
Echo wasn't kidding when she said the place got busy. Caylynn didn't have a moment to herself during the two hour rush but she was thankful the rush was over, and it was back to its quiet self. She surprised herself by being able to keep up with all those customers. All the humans seemed very nice and friendly towards her which she was thankful for. The humans were nothing like the Cherubs and working angels said they were.
The door opened and the bell chimed. Echo and Caylynn both looked up to see who had just entered. The man was handsome, blond long hair with one side shaved, and tall. Caylynns eyes fell to his arm to see the same cobra tattoo on his arm and she instantly recognised him. It was Peter. His green eyes fell on hers before she could look away. She felt her cheeks burn and quickly stared at the counter.
"So we meet again," he said, this time from next to her.
"You two know each other?" Echo said in disbelief.
Caylynn looked towards her. Echo's eyes almost came out of her head if she could widen them any bigger. Her mouth almost fell to the floor, all they needed was a bucket to catch the droll.
"Yeah, she came to my shop the other day. Bought a few things," he replied and shrugged.
"Well, that saves me introducing you both then, I guess I'm off!" Echo disappeared so fast out of the store; she didn't give either of them a chance to say goodbye.
Caylynn didn't know what to do. She knew she should keep busy, but she couldn't with Peter standing there, blocking her path.
"So—" Peter leaning against the counter, facing Caylynn "—First day working here?"
Caylynn nodded. He was handsome but she also knew handsome meant trouble. "I'm Caylynn."
"I know." He smiled and pushed the stool closer to him and sat down, eyeing her up and down.
"Nice to—Wait how?" She stared at him and raised an eyebrow. Something was off about him. She had no idea what, but she just knew.
"My sister mentioned your name when explaining about the new girl. Just didn't know it would be you. So where are you from originally?" He put his phone down on the bench and smiled.
"Gladiolus," she replied. It was the only place she could think of that actually existed on earth.
His smile widened and his eyes lit up. "Right next to where I come from then. I'm from Dragonwood. Just south of Gladiolus." He winked and leaned against the bench.
"Crap!" Caylynn thought to herself. Where were the customers when she needed them?
"Don't worry, I don't bite—" he paused "Too hard. Don't be nervous around me."
Caylynn let out a nervous laugh and rolled her eyes when he turned his head to stare at posters on the walls across from them. She had heard a lot about Gladiolus and Dragonwood, not good things from the latter though.
"Dragonwood, the place of nightmares?" Caylynn let her curiosity get the better of her.
"That's the rumor. It isn't that bad of a place though."
Caylynn could have sworn she saw his eyes flash from green to blue then back to green again but she shook the thought away. She picked up a stack of books and moved past Peter to put them into their places.
"Not gonna leave me hanging, are we?" Peter asked in a flirtatious tone.
"What do you want to know?" Caylynn shot back as she slipped into one of the aisles to return some of the books.
Peter had gone silent, and she was almost going to celebrate before he started to speak. "How many brothers do you have?"
Caylynn stood still. She didn't think he would remember her little lie from the other day but he did. "Three. I have three older brothers." Of course, she wasn't totally sure how old they were, she had to make sure she was believable.
Peter was silent once more. "They must be very protective of you."
She knew she had to make stuff up especially sad stories from her childhood. "Yeah. They are. A group of boys used to follow me around the school when I was thirteen, they wouldn't take no for an answer and my brothers saw them. Let's just say some of those boys had broken arms, others ran away scared for their lives. No one messed with me since." She smiled and slipped a book back onto the shelf.
It was her. It was a true story. She was the one who accidentally sent thorns into their arms when they wouldn't leave her alone. They were making fun of her wings, calling her a freak and the likes. Of course, back then they didn't understand how important coloured winged angels were and how important they are to life and order. Caylynns job may seem easy, but it wasn't. She was trusted to help and ensure everything nature related was doing well. To ensure no plant or animal died unnecessarily.
Caylynn turned around and almost screamed. "When did you get here?!" she half yelled.
"Not long. Know where these go?" Peter asked, a small smile invaded his face.
If Caylynn was allowed to, she would slap that smile off his face with the nearest hardcover book she could find. "I do. Echo taught me everything and don't worry, I will let you know if I need help. I know." She turned back around and walked to the next aisle. "How's those cobra's treating you?"
Silence. A small smile crept on Caylynn's face, but it wasn't for long.
"Did you know a cobra can grow up with 2 metres long?" Peter said from afar.
Caylynn paused for a moment. "Aren't they poisonous? How are you not dead yet."
"They aren't that bad," Peter replied and kept silent shortly after.
There is something weird about him. Caylynn wasn't even sure if he was serious or joking. Silently she continued placing the books back into their respective places and once she was done, she headed back behind the counter. There was nothing to do apart from awkward small talk with Peter.

Kai had never been so frustrated in his life. He didn't know what he hated the most, the man's voice or the layout of the factory. So far, he had learnt that no one was to enter the boss's office without knocking and seeking approval first. He had also found out that they would be driving around delivering stuff to places.
He was already bored but he had to pretend to be interested. "So, what do we do now?"
"Sit back and relax until they pack enough boxes to be delivered," Maxwell answered.
Kai took note of his annoying voice for the seventh time that day, also wishing that man would fix his hair instead of leaving it in the mess it was currently. A bird could lay eggs in his hair. Kai was usually a smartass but this time he had no idea what to say to the man. There was something odd about him. He was nice. Too nice.
"Some clients aren't as nice as others. You will need to keep a level head and from what boss man tells me, you can do just that." Maxwell smiled and winked towards Kai.
"I can keep level-headed alright. I can flame those assholes to death," Kai thought.
