Omelets?
A few days later, Ultron told us we had to go to South Africa to find Ulysses Klaue. Supposedly he had a collection of the material that made Steve's shield, and Ultron needed it to make his body so he could be a 'real boy.' Honestly, the place kinda creeped me out. It was this huge rusty boat in the middle of nowhere. Regardless, me and Pietro ran in, with him carrying Wanda, as Ultron shut down the power. I heard a gun cock and rushed to unload the bullets, setting them in a neat row on the table as Pietro ran in and Klaue watched us suspiciously. He looked over as Wanda made her way in quietly.
"Yeah," he said. "The Enhanced. Strucker's prize pupils." He looked at me and furrowed his brows, but his smile never dropped. "But this is interesting. Stark's little super." He picked up a bowl of candies and held it out to us. "Do you want a candy?" When we didn't say anything, he put the bowl back down. "I was sorry to hear about Strucker. But then, he knew what kind of world he was helping create. Human life. Not a growth market." The three of us looked between each other, confused.
"You didn't know?" Klaue asked. "Is this your first time intimidating someone? I'm afraid I'm not that afraid." Wanda stepped forward.
"Everybody is afraid of something," she said threateningly. He snapped.
"Cuttlefish," he said quickly. "Deep sea fish. They make lights, disco lights-" He motioned with his hand what the lights supposedly looked like. "- to hypnotize their prey, and then-" He made a tight fist. "I saw a documentary. It was terrifying." Pietro ducked forward and returned to his spot quickly, popping a candy into his mouth and handing me a chocolate. I smirked and ate the sweet treat. Klaue shook his head, getting back to his point. "So if you're going to fiddle with my brain...and make me see a giant cuttlefish, then I know you don't do business. And I know you're not in charge." He stood up. "And I only deal...with the man in charge." Ultron flew up to the window and shoved Klaue out of the room.
"There is no man in charge," the metal man said, ducking under the doorway and leaning down over Klaue. "Let's talk business." The frightened arms dealer nodded and led us to a storage room that looked like it was filled with toxic waste. But when he pressed a button, the shelf lowered and revealed tubes of a glowing blue metal.
"Upon this rock, I will build my church," Ultron said as Klaue handed him a vial. "Vibranium." Klaue nodded.
"You know, it came at great personal cost." He rubbed the side of his neck, where there was a mark burned into his skin. "It's worth billions." Ultron closed his eyes, then looked back at Klaue, smiling.
"Now so are you," he said. Klaue's henchman opened some kind of phone, and the two of them looked at it, awestruck. "It's all under your dummy holdings. Finance is so weird. But I always say, 'Keep your friends rich and your enemies rich and wait to find out which is which.'" Klaue and his man froze and looked at the tall machine.
"Stark," Klaue said. I frowned and stepped a bit closer. Pietro grabbed my arm to keep me from going any farther from him.
"What?" I spat. He looked between me and Ultron.
"Tony Stark used to say that," he said. "To me. You're one of his." He gestured to me. "Like her." I gritted my teeth, and Pietro slipped his hand down my arm to grip mine.
"What?" Ultron asked. "I'm not..." He grabbed Klaue's arm. "I'm not. You think I'm one of Stark's puppets? His hollow men? I mean, look at me. Do I look like Iron Man? Stark is nothing!" He brought his arm down and cut off Klaue's arm, the man groaning in pain. Ultron released him and hissed at the sight. "I'm sorry. I'm-I'm sure that's gonna be okay. I'm sorry. It's just that I don't understand. Don't compare me with Stark!" He kicked Klaue in the chest, knocking him down the stairs behind him. Klaue's man quickly followed to help him. "It's a thing with me." I heard a familiar footstep pattern and ducked into the doorway and out of sight. "Stark is- He's a sickness!"
"Aw, Junior," I heard. I gritted my teeth at Tony's voice. "You're gonna break your old man's heart." Ultron looked at him.
"If I have to."
"Nobody has to break anything," Steve said. I dug my nails into my palm.
"Clearly you've never made an omelet," Ultron said.
"He beat me by one second," Tony said. I rolled my eyes, and Pietro nodded.
"Yes," he said. "He's funny. Mr. Stark. It's what? Comfortable?" He looked down at the missiles below them. "Like old times?"
"This was never my life." I scoffed.
"Really?" I asked. I stepped out from the doorway slowly, staring Tony down. "You never let Obadiah Stane control your company even though you knew what he could do with it? You didn't know your weapons were being used to slaughter millions?" He just stared at me.
"Chris," he whispered. I shook my head, ignoring him.
"You may not have ordered a weapons strike on Sokovia, but it was your name on those shells." Pietro laced his fingers through mine and squeezed my hand, calming me down a bit. Steve stepped forward, looking at me.
"You three can still walk away from this," he said. Wanda stepped up to be on the other side of me.
"Oh, we will," she said.
"I know you've suffered." Ultron groaned.
"Captain America," he said. "God's righteous man. Pretending you could live without a war. I can't physically throw up in my mouth, but-"
"If you believe in peace," Thor said, "then let us keep it."
"I think you're confusing peace with quiet." Tony nodded.
"Yeah huh. What's the vibranium for?"
"I'm glad you asked that, because I wanted to take this time to explain my evil plan." He blasted Tony in the chest, and Pietro nudged my arm before we both ran off, shoving Steve and Thor out of the way as we did.
"You remember the plan?" the blond asked. I rolled my eyes.
"Yes, I remember the plan." We stopped running, and I looked him in the eye. "Don't do anything stupid." I rolled his eyes playfully.
"You have such little faith in me." He kissed my cheek quickly and ran off, leaving me to find Clint and Natasha. I found the bird man on a walkway on the third level, shooting down at the fighting workers and robots. He looked up as I approached. His eyes widened.
"Chris?" he asked. I smiled at him.
"Clint." He stood from his crouched position and approached me cautiously.
"Are you..." He gestured to one of the robots, and I shook my head. He grinned and wrapped me in a hug. "Oh my god." I smirked and spun him around, shoving him to the ground and stepping on his back. He groaned and looked up at me as best as he could. "Chris, what the-"
"Stay there," I said. I put more weight on his back before running off again, just in time to see Pietro try to grab Thor's hammer as it flew by. I cringed as he flew to the floor below and crashed into a pile of crates. I ran down as Steve approached him. The speedster stood up shakily, only to be hit with Steve's shield.
"Stay down, kid," he said. I angled my shoulder and rammed into him, knocking him into the other crates.
"Stay down, old man," I said as he looked up at me. I grabbed Pietro's hand, and we sped off again. We stopped in a hallway closer to where Clint was, and he looked down at me.
"Thanks," he said. I nodded. "Are you okay?" I sighed and nodded. He rubbed my arm and nodded towards Clint. We arrived just in time to see Clint putting a taser arrow on Wanda's forehead.
"I've done the whole mind control thing," he said. "Not a fan." He went to take it off, but Pietro shoved him out of the way and ripped the arrow off himself before picking her up and running off.
"Yeah," Clint said, "you better run." I glared at him before running after the twins. I found them huddled in a corner outside the freighter, Pietro comforting his sister. I crouched next to them.
"Are you okay?" I asked Wanda. She winced but nodded.
"What can I do?" Pietro asked. She shook her head.
"It hurts." Pietro gritted her teeth.
"I'm going to kill him." He stood. "I'll be right back." Wanda grabbed his arm.
"No," she said. "I'm alright. I want...I want to finish the plan." She looked towards the quinjet, hidden partially by the treets. "I want the big one." Pietro ran Wanda over to the quinjet, and I waited for them to return.
