The Epilogue: Full House and New Beginnings
As much as I was happy to be home, having an extra eight vampires sitting in my apartment makes the space smaller than it is. I mean I can't toss them out. Vamp daddy had himself several one night stands with a bite and bail. So they were all new and unsure of how to be a vampire, reminds me so much of hunk of perpetually happy hotness.
However, that doesn't stop the fact that my apartment is far too small for a nest of vampires.
Or is it coven?
Nope not getting into that again. Jake and I already discussed and never again.
Also someone is looking out for me and delivered me into salvation with an angel by the name of Laritzia.
Have I mentioned how much I love my boss?
Because I utterly love my boss!
~~~~~
My apartment was too small.
It was now an inescapable fact. My generous offer to allow Jack's siblings to stay with us had been born out of half parts relief and half parts sympathy but now that all eight of them were inside of my apartment I realized I had a serious issue with space. Especially considering there was a rather large mound of velvet and silk Victorian style clothes sitting in the living room that everyone was eyeing with an apparent urge to set fire.
Not that I blamed them for that. I would have been one of the first people to want to set it on fire. That dress had been cumbersome, uncomfortable, and far too large. It had been hell to get on the bus with it. I was fairly positive we had given the bus driver enough to talk about for the next two months as we had all piled on looking like we had just come from a gothic ball from hell.
With the exception of Jake, who had been wearing board shorts and a t-shirt. Which had made the rest of us look even more out of place. It didn't help that he had pretty much wrapped himself around me making it very apparent that we were all together as a group and he hadn't just walked into a group of gothic inspired ball goers.
"Sammi, we are running out of coconut water." Jake called it from the kitchen and I winced. That was also another problem. Once we had explained to everyone that they could drink coconut water as a blood substitute, they had pretty much drank all of Jake's reserve and I honestly didn't know how to get that stock back up. Not that I blamed them, they had all been skinny and I could tell they hadn't been feeding well or at all.
So I didn't begrudge them for drinking half a lake worth of coconut water, it was probably their first good meal in a long time, but it wasn't easy on the pocket book. They needed to eat too but with the supply running low and room being absolutely minimal to where we were pretty much tripping over one another to move around, my nerves were already frayed.
"I don't know how to help you with that, Jake." I didn't and I didn't even want to think about it at all. That sounded like a problem for future Sam to solve and not present Sam. Present Sam was feeling the urge to nearly rip out her hair trying to wrap her head around the fact there were now nine total vampires sitting in her apartment that was meant for a total of two people.
"It's alright, Sammi. We'll figure it out. Well you will, you are wicked smart like that." At the praise I glanced at him and he gave me a broad grin of pride that had the corners of my mouth tugging up. Even as anxious and panicked about bills and space as I was, his smile made me light up. I was a sap, a total and complete sap and I couldn't even bring up enough strength to care about it. He loved me and for some stupid reason that made everything feel like it would work out in the end.
He came towards me, wrapping me up tightly in a hug that had me filling up with enough warmth that I just let everything else go to just rest on him and relax. I appreciated that, to just relax for a moment before the rude reality of no space and no money intruded on the moment. "Are you happy?" I needed to ask it because despite how I felt, these eight other vampires were not only technically Jake's vampire siblings but they were the first vampires that he had the chance to be around since he had been turned.
Jake nodded rapidly. "Yah! It's wicked. Darius said his witchy girlfriend is willing to go on a date with him."
"Not my girlfriend yet but if she gives me a chance to cook her a meal, I have it in the bag!" At the guy's excited words and the whoops of excitement from the others that followed, I found myself smiling. They really deserved to be normal after their previous normal was ripped away from them.
"It's nice to be around others like me." Amaya said it loud enough that everyone else quieted down before murmuring their agreement. She was sitting down beside one of the other female vampires. I think her name was Belle and her flaming red hair was certainly eye catching now that she had it down from her excessively complicated updo I knew that alcoholic vamp dad had forced on her.
"Yah. I've been living in a basement of a crack house for the past month." Jeremy, the Asian American vampire, said it with a heavy amount of disgust. "Honestly, now that I showered, I feel almost human." He ran his hand through his short hair and grinned at me and I nodded in acknowledgement.
"Same, dude! I was living in a dumpster before I found Sammi. That first shower was the best feeling in the world!" Jake hugged me a bit tighter and I rubbed his arms.
I looked around the rest of them lingering in the small space I called my apartment. Aside from Amaya, Darius, Jeremy, and Belle, there was also Ray, Michael, Lance, and Yvonne. They had all come from different walks of life but now had to rely on each other as they figured out just what it was to be a vampire. I was happy they were at least together and had someone to lean on through the rough transition.
My cell phone started ringing and I pulled away from Jake, immediately searching for it. I pinched my lips together before Darius pulled it from his pocket and passed it down the line of vampires between me and him. I smiled at him in thanks and answered the phone quickly. "Hello?" I moved away from the murmuring as best as I could.
"Sam! I have news for business!" Laritzia's voice was echoing slightly on her end and it was a bit harder to hear her. "I have one building, old building, old underground parking. We can use it as main office. I was going to rent it out, had apartments built but no one likes underground, never rented it out. It will work, yes?" It was a little hard to hear with eh echo on her end but I caught the gist of what she was saying.
"Wait, how many apartments are there?" Excitement rose up inside of me. Apartments? In an underground parking garage? That seemed almost too good to be true.
"Ten." At the number I had to practically stifle a cheer. Ten. It was perfect! I don't know who up stairs was looking out for me but that was just too perfect of an opportunity to pass up.
"Laritzia, that is perfect!" Excitement pitched my words up at the end and I was aware that everyone was now staring at me.
"Apartments or building?" The echo was getting better and I could only imagine that she had moved out of whatever echo-y space she had been in before.
"Both. You won't believe it but I found you eight more employees for the business. They all count fantastically and they all need a place to stay!" We could localize everything in the same building and they would have somewhere safe to stay. I could guarantee that an underground parking garage didn't have that many windows and for a vampire, underground with no windows was fucking perfect.
"Oh! They moving to work here in city?" She asked it curiously and I glanced at the vampires, who were all intent about staring at me as if trying to hear everything that was being said.
I waved them off. "You could say that." I shifted my grip on the phone and moved closer to my bedroom before slipping inside. They were just too unnerving by how intently they were staring at me.
"Building perfect then! They okay with living under ground? No windows." She said it with a fair bit of warning and I grinned.
"They will love it! Can they move in tomorrow night?" They needed a safer place to stay and they all couldn't fit into the pantry. I knew Jake and I slept in my bedroom on the floor but there was no logistical way that eight vampires could fit into that tiny space.
"I have old furniture inside, do they want me to leave it or will they rent as is?" At the words my grin grew wider. I didn't know what deity was making everything go my way at the moment and I wasn't going to question it but fucking A!
"I am sure they will be fine renting it as is, Laritzia." Furniture included? They didn't need to sleep on the floor or try to scrounge up the bare minimum to live? I am sure they would more than likely jump at the chance.
"Perfect! I knew I could count on you, Sam! Good bet, you are good bet! Business will be perfect! Use old building, rent out eight apartments!" She sounded so excited that I laughed. I felt excited and giddy too so I couldn't even blame her.
I paused for a moment and looked at Jake and I's little nest on the floor beside the bed. If I was going to go all the way into this lifestyle I knew I needed to make some changes as well. "Make it nine. It's time for a change for me too." Jake needed to be where he was safe and I would live underground with him if it meant I could simply be with him. We would make it work and I honestly believed that it could only help my circadian rhythm. There would be no daylight seeping in and I could imagine that it was cool in the apartments.
"Even better! Rent out nine apartments, get employees! I figure out good discount on rent for you all! Perfect! Good bet, Sam. Very good bet!" Her praise made my cheeks go warm and I fought the urge to deny the compliment. "See you tomorrow night when they move in! Very excited to meet them all! See you, Sam! Very excited!" She hung up the phone and I felt a heavy weight slide off of my shoulders. I couldn't believe what had just happened. I grinned so wide that my cheeks hurt before I immediately headed for the door and yanked it open.
Jake looked over at me and I launched at him, hugging him tightly as I laughed. He caught me and spun me around with a laugh of his own. "What's up, Sammi? Good news?" He set me down and I nodded rapidly.
"Laritzia is hiring all of you." At the words there was a chorus of whoops and excited cheers. "And." I raised my voice so that they settled down. Excitement thrummed in the room and I didn't blame them. It was probably some of the only good news they had gotten in awhile. "And she will be basing the business out of an old converted under ground parking garage, where she aslo has ten fully furnished apartments for rent. She said you guys can move into them tomorrow for a discounted price because we will be filling most of them." I looked around and wide befanged grins greeted me as excited chatter suddenly erupted.
"That's wicked, Sammi!" Jake pressed kisses all over my face before he pulled back and grinned down at me. "Sucks that we have to commute though." He scrunched up his nose and I went up on my tip toes and kissed his nose.
"What do you say we move with them?" I whispered it and his eyes went wide and I smiled at him. "With eight other helpers I am sure we could get us packed up and ready to go by tomorrow night." Eight other super enthusiastic helpers. I could only imagine how willing they would be to help pack up my tiny apartment. I had literally just found them all a secure job and a place to call home.
"Really? I mean this is your life, Sammi. You were here before me. I mean it's super exciting but you have given up so much for me already." Jake looked almost stricken and I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him.
"Not really." I murmured it against his lips before I pulled back. "I mean I have an immortal vampire boyfriend who is wicked hot and thinks my breasts look amazing in a corset and helps me sleep at night. Pretty good trade off in my opinion." I grinned at him and he let out a whoop before kissing me soundly.
He was breathing hard by the time he set me down. "You are absolutely wicked, Sammi!" The glint in his eyes let me know exactly what he was thinking and I couldn't help but laugh.
Who would have thought having the supernatural world fall through my bedroom window at three in the morning would have resulted in me having a hot, immortal, himbo, surf loving, vampire boyfriend and not in a straight jacket?
Certainly not me.
I was happily going to live in Crazy Town.
Population two.
Jake pulled me closer and kissed me again. I pulled back a bit, pecking him on the lips. My life would never be the same since I found my very own cryptid. I smirked and kissed Jake again. "This sure beats bigfoot."
