Chapter 55 | September 14th | Go Rescue Someone Else!

Timeline - September 14th | (2 Days Later)

They surged through the field like gifts from the divine heavens above them, powers exceeding anything they had faced. It was undeniably simple for them; the harder they trained, the stronger they became.

The same theory applied to Snow, the one person who consistently interfered in his life for the past twelve years. The very same that was his close equal in strength and agility.

"Get out of the fucken way, Snow!" Matthew's scream penetrated the foggy air that evening, snatching the woman by the waist, throwing her with his own body out of the way of an incoming fireball attack that hurdled their way.

Snow, the ice queen she could be, even if they were on a smartass nickname basis, since their childhood. Her disguise consistently changed, which meant tracking her down was more complicated and more challenging as the years went by as the technology she managed to get a hold of was updated to hide her whereabouts.

After lengthy discussions with Jesse, and some theorised ideas, whoever she had been, harnessed the same concept of technology to mask their appearance as they had.

While she had chosen bizarre outfits depending on her mood, adorning headwear and masks, Jesse had created warrior outfits to protect their identities, masking their voice and any identifiable features that could link their real identities.

While they had never gotten close to revealing Snow's true identity, he was losing count of how many times he had had to save her. She was also bloody well lucky over the years with her over-cockiness that she had the powers to back up her recklessness.

Their crystals allowed for faster-than-normal agility, among strength and unfathomable powers. All skills he honed in on and all traits he ensured the rest of the warriors could meet.

Warriors like Jesse, who went by the name of 'G', a shortened version of her middle name Georgina, that she simplified for on the field.

The red-haired warrior at this moment was parlaying across the field, clearly in her element, emitting one hell of a firestorm around them that was burning up the creatures on the outskirts of the eastern border.

The patrol wasn't patrol that night, they all knew that their enemies were pushing on the territories that divided them, edging closer to their worlds, and he, for one, was having no bar of that.

Toni favoured the name 'Chef' while Richie decided he wanted a romantic name if people would talk about them as warriors and began calling himself 'Romeo'.

It was easier when the tabloids got a hold of stories about them; they weren't identifiable with their nicknames and something they ensured they stuck to.

Both men were currently slicing the monsters into halves that they were ambushed with; their greatest assets were their crystals which magnified their combat skills on the field and the teamwork they used to kill their enemies.

Matthew ensured he had pushed them over the years, never relenting and always on top of their training regimes. Jesse's system at the academy for training had only improved their skillset when she had it up and functioning.

The only setback was that her ideas were limited to their technology, a downfall they had to combat when training soldiers at the academies.

"You're a fucken moron, Ace!" There was the delightful woman he wanted to punch in the face if he could. Her voice was acidic in how she spoke to him, and a nickname she had condescendingly called him back when they were kids, purely based on his arrogance on the field.

Delightfully he kept using the nickname as his cover, which only seemed to piss her off more over the years.

"Get your mangy, disgusting hands off me!" shoving her fists into his chest, roughly pushing the man away from her.

Matthew watched as she barely got to her feet before her powers transported her from him, launching into attacking the monster that sent the fireball at them on the field, destroying Ezra's enemies that wanted to see them dead.

Matthew exhaled, on his feet, disappearing back into the ambush of monsters. He knew that she would somehow be the death of him; the ignorant, stupid child would get him or one of his friends killed, and he despised her all the more for it.

The only thing he resented more about this situation was that he also needed as many people on their side to fight this war, which ultimately meant her as well.

Even if Snow's skills lacked focus, she was far more powerful than the others. If she learned to harness her powers, stopped letting her emotions control her actions, and learned to breathe before acting, she could work with them and take out Ezra once and for all.

But that was a perfect scenario in an ideal world, and he doesn't live in a fairytale world where he ever expected that to happen.

Matthew bounced back along the field with a speed his friends couldn't fathom; unfortunately, it was the same speed that Snow could keep up with. As much as he hated her there with him, it was undeniable how well they worked together.

Weaving in and out, one of the large troll-like creatures that presented itself in the ambush attacked, and both Matthew and Snow were at the creature's legs, hacking away at its lower body.

Matthew instinctively went for where he assumed its tendons were while Snow's explosive energy ball ripped at its main body before it collapsed to its knees.

He swung his weapon, bouncing again through the land, dodging the land that the second taller, beasty-looking troll had been currently ripping up and throwing at him. In a swift movement, Matthew beheaded the troll, allowing it to satisfactorily roll away from its body, stopping under the foot of Snow.

She looked down at it, smirking to herself before kicking the head away from her. Snow lazily brought her head forward towards the dismantled head and set it ablaze with a flick of her wrist.

"It's dead. Beheaded and all," Matthew quipped at the woman who held an oversized giant rabbit's head with a latex outwear as coverage as a crystal warrior.

He didn't even want to know where she ransacked that outfit from.

"Was I asking your opinion, Ace?" Matthew flicked his eyes to Snow, the timeskeeeper that saved them as children must have known what she was doing by giving this annoyance of a human being a crystal as well.

But...why...just why her? Why the Fuck her, of all people?

Shaking his head as he flipped her the bird, Matthew moved back along the field to the rest of the monsters that his warriors were dealing with.

Snow was quick on his heel, relentlessly slaughtering through the monsters as Toni, Richie, and Jesse targeted the monsters on the outskirts, scaring them off as they disbursed from around them.

Finally, as the last of their enemies fell to the ground, menacing eyes fell on his own. Holding two daggers, one in each hand, Snow raised one, pointing it at the man she despised more than anything.

"Touch me again, and I will slit your throat like these monsters."

Defying any form of unspoken amicable ability between them, Jesse cocked her mouth, raising her voice to the woman.

"And you need to learn to work together with us before you get my team killed," the red-haired was as furious as Snow had been, "Ezra is not a one-woman show. She has an entire army behind her."

"I don't need to take on her armies," the bunny's head shook, and Snow's voice rose higher in disgust. "I only need to kill her. You three consistently prove how worthless you are at achieving that."

"This." Toni cooly responded to the warrior, "coming from the woman that needs saving more often than none."

"Was I speaking to you!" She stepped forwards, power surging through her body. Matthew stood in front of her violent rage; the push against his body as she stood there separated them from her.

The large bunny head made it harder to snap at her, she looked absurd today, but it didn't stop him from leering into her personal space.

"For once. Enough of this shit. You either learn to trust us. Trust me, after all these years."

"Trust is earned," Matthew didn't realise that Snow could sound more acidic than moments before. "I can't just magically hand it over."

"Maybe you learn how to trust people," Toni folded his arms, "wild idea since we're all on the same side of this war."

"I have enough to deal with instead of worrying if you whining pain in my ass's like me." Snow shook her head, which caused the oversized headgear to shake ridiculously, and turning on her heel, she disappeared instantly.

It now left four bodies utterly exhausted from dealing with their rogue warrior. Matthew watched as Toni, Richie, and Jesse returned to the field, inspecting the slain monsters around them.

It left him wondering, however, as it always does with Snow's antics and motives, just how far she was willing to go in all of this.

Just how far her influence in what was to come was going to turn the tide, if at all.

Justtt keeep writing..... right? lol
