Tira woke feeling groggy and disoriented. She tried to move her fingers but couldn't feel them, panic gripped her before she remembered she'd lost the ability to physically feel unless Toya was touching her. After one panic was alleviated another swell of panic took hold as she momentarily didn't recognize her surroundings. There was a faint beeping sound as she lost herself in panic which only made her panic more.
"Tira?" Her father's voice sounded nearby, there was a split second where her heart rate skyrocketed as her fight or flight took hold instinctively. The beeping intensified. "Tira?" She flinched as his hand came into view, he'd been attempting to calm her and make contact but drew back the moment she flinched. "It's alright, Tira, you're home, you're safe." He said softly as he moved away from her.
The beeping slowed as Tira began to calm. The fog lifted and she realized she was back home, in her bed. She had no idea how she'd gotten there, her memories seemed jumbled. Once it looked like she'd calmed down, Enji approached her bedside slowly.
"Tira, do you remember where Toya took you last night?" He asked her softly and felt his heart grow heavy in his chest as she flinched at the sound of his voice at first. It looked like she was straining herself to keep from flinching reflexively. Something wasn't right.
Tira struggled to get her jumbled memories in order and try to remember the events of the night before. A worrisome thought crossed her mind, she remembered Toya being angry, they'd run into some people who didn't seem very nice but it was all kind of a blur from there. She feared Toya had done something bad to them because they'd seemed threatening to her. Her stomach churned unpleasantly. She bit her lip, "I don't remember." She lied.
Enji frowned, he had a feeling she wasn't being completely honest judging by the spike in her heart rate but he didn't want to stress her too much. "Alright...get some rest."
Tira settled back into bed. She closed her eyes and willed herself to sleep hoping when she woke up again things would seem clearer. Enji watched her with a faint frown as she tossed and turned trying to fall back asleep. He sighed and reached over for some sleeping pills her doctor had left for her once she'd given up on trying to get back to sleep.
She grimaced when he extended them to her. "...Do I have to? ..." Her voice was so soft he almost hadn't heard her.
Enji shook his head and set them back on her nightstand, "no, you don't have to..." he let out a long heavy sigh. He was failing again. He ran one of his large hands through his crimson hair. There were creases in his hair from the amount of times he'd ran worried fingers through his hair.
"Dad?" Tira spoke up softly, starting to feel a little more relaxed and clearer minded.
"What is it?"
"Do you love us?" She asked him curiously.
"What?!" He stared at her in awe.
"Toya, Natsuo, Fuyumi, Shoto and I...do you love us?"
"Of course, I do, why would you thin—?" Enji cut off, had he ever told his children that he loved them? He cleared his throat and slowly reached out to catch her hand in his, though he knew she couldn't feel his touch he hoped she'd see that he was trying. "I love you, and all of your brothers and your sister."
"Toya too?"
"Toya too."
Tira bit her lip, "will you always love us?"
Enji frowned, she looked like she was getting upset about something, tears were welling in her eyes. "Always." He promised.
"Toya too?" She asked again.
He nodded.
"...even if he did something bad?"
Enji tensed. He remembered the talk he'd tried to have with his eldest son years ago about his inappropriate feelings toward his sister. Was it that or something else? He'd never brought it up with Tira or let on to the fact that he'd seen Toya kiss her. He was worried he'd lose his cool and do something to damage her psyche even more. What if he tried to do something more than kiss? Enji nearly flew into a panic, that would be an even bigger scandal and how would that make poor Tira feel? His stomach churned unpleasantly as the thought crossed his mind.
"Has he done something to you, Tira?" He blurted before he could stop himself.
Tira looked at her father curiously. He looked greatly disturbed about something, "I don't think so." She frowned not understanding what he meant.
Enji frowned, perhaps it was time they had a talk, "...I saw him kiss you, the night he broke you out of the facility."
Tira's cheeks turned a bright red color. "Is that bad?"
Enji dropped his head into his hands. He didn't want to tell her it was bad but he couldn't really condone such a thing. Once he'd thought he resolved himself to tell her it was bad he looked at the sorrowful guilt-ridden expression on her face and thought better of it. He gently placed his hand atop her head, "has he tried to do anything more than that?"
"More?" Tira frowned not sure she understood and tried to think back on the times Toya had kissed her.
Enji's heart dropped into the pit of his stomach as Tira thought about it. He wasn't sure he could handle this. What if Toya had done something to her? He'd have to talk to Tira's doctor about getting her on birth control to avoid a mutant incest monster child. As the thought crossed his mind, he wanted to kick himself. This was all his fault. This had to be the universe's way to punish him for being a terrible spouse and father. Please, I have learned my lesson, please stop this. He silently prayed to whatever deity would possibly listen.
Tira noticed her father appeared to be having some kind of mental breakdown and tilted her head to the side curiously, "I don't think so." She finally piped up.
He calmed down at hearing this, at least Toya hadn't done anything to her—yet. He grimaced at the afterthought. Maybe it was a good day for Tira to visit Rei. He imagined himself going to visit her trying to think of what he'd say. So, our eldest children have begun an incestuous relationship, think you can have a talk with our daughter so they don't have a monster baby? He groaned inwardly. If this was the universe's way to punish him, why did it also have to put sweet innocent Tira at risk? She could get hurt.
"Alright." He gently squeezed her hand in his though he knew she couldn't feel it. "I think I misunderstood, sorry. What did you mean about him doing something bad?"
Tira frowned, "you'd still love him, even if he hurt someone, right?"
"Of course, I would." Enji didn't like the distressed expression on her face.
"What if he did something worse than that?" She grimaced.
"Like what?" Enji frowned.
A single tear escaped her hold, "what if he killed someone?"
Enji felt his stomach tie itself into painful knots, Tira was upsetting herself. "Tira...has your brother killed someone?"
"I don't know...I don't' think so...but what if he did?" She cried.
"I'd still love him, but if he did, he would still need to pay for his crimes, he's not above the law..." Enji felt sick, she was getting so worked up. He wrapped his arms around her, "if you don't know anything for sure, there's no sense getting so worked up over it."
Tira took a moment to calm herself down. "Dad?"
He smiled softly, she was talkative today, he just wished it wasn't about things that upset her, "yes?"
"Is it wrong for me and Nii-chan to love each other?" She asked him curiously.
Enji paused unsure of how to respond. He cleared his throat somewhat awkwardly, "who can say...it's not socially acceptable but I don't think you've done anything wrong..." He grimaced. "If you'd like, after you rest a bit, we can go visit your mother."
Tira smiled, feeling better about her mixed-up feelings and nodded.
"Alright, get some rest." He kissed the top of her head and exited her room.
