𝒗𝒊. prove them wrong

❛ a lot of things make me angry, sensei. ❜

AYANE PICKED UP ROBBY, VINCENT, and Kenny to go to the drive-in.

"Alright, if you're going to eat in my car I better not see a single crumb left," she warned, pulling up to their spot and shutting off the engine.

"Yes ma'am," the three boys said in unison, earning a glare from Ayane as they all laughed.

She pulled out her phone to text Miguel, not really caring much for the movie. Then, her eyes widened when she found out he and the Eagle Fangs and Miyagi-Dos were at the drive-in, too.

"Shit," she said aloud without realizing.

Robby looked over at her. "Something wrong?"

Ayane looked up. "Uh– no. I just– forgot my license at home."

"I can drive back if you need me to," he suggested.

She eyed him. "You think I'm letting you drive my car? I'd let Kenny drive before you."

Robby placed a hand on his chest. "Ouch."

Kenny leaned forward from the backseat.

"So does that mean I can drive your car–"

"Not a chance."

He sighed, sitting back again.

Ayane kept checking her phone every couple of minutes, until Robby caught on. He did not like to snoop, but he was wondering who could have been so important to talk to.

She set her phone in her lap. "Hey Kenny, why don't you go get us some snacks?"

Kenny opened his mouth to protest.

"What if– I wanna watch the movie?"

Ayane turned back to him. "You're a newbie. I'm afraid you don't have a choice."

Kenny huffed, starting to open the car door.

"Fine. What do you guys want?"

"Pretzel twists, a bag of popcorn, and a large Sprite," Vincent said, absentmindedly handing Kenny and ten dollar bill as he kept his eyes on the movie.

"Get me uh... some M&M's and a bottled water," Robby said, handing Kenny some money.

Ayane thought for a second. "You know what, I'll just come with you."

They both got out of the car, leaving Robby and Vincent. Ayane wondered how awkward that might be considering they didn't really know each other, but she dismissed it.

"Hey," Kyler said from the vehicle beside them, "you guys going to get some food?"

"Yeah," Kenny said while Ayane simultaneously said, "No."

She shot a look at Kenny, then reluctantly asked, "What do you want?"

Ayane and Kenny walked to the concessions five minutes later with a large order, both annoyed.

"We might as well have just taken the whole car with us," Ayane said with an eye roll, her arms full of food.

"You can head back, I'm gonna wait on these pretzels," she told Kenny, who was piled down with food.

"Okay."

She waited, turning after a moment to see if Kenny had made it back yet. Then she frowned, seeing a familiar red mohawk. He bumped into Kenny from behind, knocking all of the food out of his hand.

"Come on, man," Ayane groaned, setting all the food on the counter. "Can you watch this? I'll be right back."

She ran over to them, placing her hands on her hips.

"Hawk, seriously?"

He looked up at her, his eyes widening for a second.

"Hey Ayane," he said, his usual snideness returning. "What's up?"

"I don't know, what's up with you being an asshole for no reason?"

"Is everything okay over here?" Robby and Vincent suddenly appeared beside Ayane, and Kenny went to hid behind them.

Before she knew it, the rest of the Cobra Kais were walking up.

"Everything's fine," Hawk shrugged with a smirk.

Ayane's eyes widened as she saw Miguel walk up beside Hawk, glancing at her briefly. Sam came up as well, staring at Tory.

"Well look who it is, princess," she sneered at Tory, looking her up and down.

"Not to mention the two traitors," Nate spoke up from beside Hawk.

Ayane took a step forward, and he quickly flinched.

"Hey guys, can you believe that they have Mr. Pibb and Dr. Pepper?" Demetri came out of nowhere, standing between the two groups.

They all looked at him, until he realized what was going on.

"Oh shit," he sighed. "Not another rumble."

"Careful, LaRusso," Tory said. "Your mommy isn't here to play peacemaker."

Ayane shook her head. "Alright, everyone needs to calm down–"

"Says you," Hawk scoffed. "The person with the worst attitude here."

Vincent, who had been quiet until now, took a step toward Hawk.

"Watch it," he said through gritted teeth. Ayane grabbed his arm, pulling him back.

Miguel's eyes flitted between them, a hot boiling feeling rising up inside of him. He balled his fists, maintaining his composure.

"No worries," he said. "We'll beat them on the mat."

"Oh really?" Robby quickly replied. "Do you remember what happened last time we fought?"

Ayane never turned her head so quickly, prepared to cuss Robby out into oblivion. But then she remembered: no one knew she and Miguel were together.

"Okay," Miguel nodded. "Meet us on the baseball diamond in thirty minutes. And no weapons."

Ayane looked up at him, confused.

Miguel looked back at her, shaking his head a little before walking away.

She received a text on her phone a minute later. I wouldn't go on the baseball diamond if I were you.

Frowning at Miguel's message, she decided to take his word. She had a feeling he had not been planning a fight.

When the thirty minutes had passed, the Cobra Kais headed to the baseball field.

"Hey, I... need to go to bathroom real quick," Ayane told them, stopping.

Robby looked at her. "Seriously? Right now?"

She raised her hands. "Do you want me to piss everywhere? I drank a lot of soda."

He rolled his eyes, turning and continuing along with the others.

Ayane quickly jogged to the bathrooms, watching from around the corner to see what was going to happen. There were no Eagle Fang or Miyagi-Do kids in sight.

The lights around the field shut off. Ayane continued watching, trying to figure out what Miguel was up to.

Then, the sprinklers turned on. She almost laughed, shaking her head in disbelief.

Ayane decided to walk back over to them now, acting as if she had no idea what just happened.

"Guys? Why are you standing there soaking wet?"

They all looked over at her, infuriated.

"Where the hell were you?" Tory asked in an accusatory tone.

Ayane pointed behind her. "I had to go pee."

They all began walking off the field sullenly. "Sure you did," she muttered.

Ayane had to take home three soaking wet boys in her car, which she was not happy about. Once she got Vincent home, she called Miguel.

"Stay dry?" he answered.

"Holy shit, Miguel, that was the funniest thing I've ever seen," she said, laughing once more as she thought about it. "How did you know about the sprinklers?"

"When Johnny was looking for a place to start up Eagle Fang, when went to the baseball field and got... soaked."

She snickered again, shaking her head.

"So when are you gonna tell Vincent that you're not into him?"

Ayane's smile dropped. "What– what do you mean?"

Miguel sighed. "Ayane. The way that dude was being protective of you tonight? He likes you... a lot."

She frowned. Okay, maybe she had caught on that Vincent seemed to have a crush, but she did not think it was obvious to other people.

"Don't worry, Miguel. You know you can trust me, right?"

"Of course. It's him that I don't trust. Just– do me a favor and make it clear you're not into him. Friendzone him as hard as you can."

Ayane laughed a little, pulling into the driveway at her house.

"I'll try my best. See you tomorrow?"

"Yep. Same time in the janitor's closet?"

She shook her head with a smile.

"Goodnight, Miguel. I love you."

Ayane got out of her car, walking into the house. She was about to head up the stairs when she heard someone call her name.

Frowning, Ayane turned around and walked back to the dining room.

In there, she saw Ennis, Liana, Kreese and Silver at the table.

"Ayane, why don't you join us?" Ennis gestured to the empty seat. "There's still plenty left for you."

She stood there, racking her mind to think of an excuse.

"Um... I actually just ate at the drive-in. I'm pretty full."

"Aw, come on Ayane," Silver said with a smile. "Let's chat for a bit. I told your parents how impressed I was by you earlier today."

Ayane glanced down. "Thanks. But I'm– kinda tired. And I have school tomorrow, so... I should be getting to bed."

Ennis looked like he wanted to say something, but Terry replied before he got the chance.

"Well, that's alright. See you tomorrow."

Terry smiled once more and Ayane, surprisingly, smiled back.

She turned, leaving and going upstairs. Ayane showered and got into bed, pulling out her laptop. She went to Google, searching 'Terry Silver.'

And as it turned out, he had money. Like, more money than Ennis had ever even seen.

"Damn," she muttered, reading an article about him. Terry was a very well-known man.

Her watch beeped for her to take her meds. Ayane shut her computer, looking over at the bottle with dread. Maybe she could skip them for just one night.

Ayane pulled up the covers, drifting off to sleep.

AT THE DOJO THE NEXT DAY, AYANE
was getting sick of listening to the arguments from her fellow students.

They were all debating on the best way to get back at the Miyagi-Do/Eagle Fang kids.

"Guys!" Ayane pinched the bridge of her nose, drawing their attention. "Do we really have to get back at them? Why can't we just wait until the tournament?"

They all glared at her.

"You know, it was kinda suspicious how you disappeared last night," Kyler said to her. "You sure you didn't know anything about it?"

"How would I?" she quickly countered. "I don't talk to any of them."

"That's what you say," Tory replied. "But I'd be willing to bet you haven't completely cut ties with them. Especially Miguel."

Ayane set her jaw, crossing her arms. "Oh... and what about you and Sam?"

Everyone turned to Tory then, confused.

Ayane smirked while Tory glared at her.

She warmed up with Vincent, who seemed as pissed off as the others.

"Those guys really are assholes," he said, shaking his head. "I see what everyone's been talking about."

Ayane stared off to the side, distracted in thought.

"Ayane?" Vincent snapped a finger in front of her face, gaining her attention.

"Hm?"

He laughed a little. "You good? You've been kinda quiet today. Haven't even tried to kick me."

Ayane slightly shrugged.

"Yeah. I just– didn't sleep well."

And that was the truth. She regretted not taking her meds now. Ayane felt like she was having withdrawals or something.

"Alright, listen up," Terry and Kreese walked into the dojo. No one knew where they had gone. "Gather round."

Everyone did so.

"We just had a little powwow with the senseis at Miyagi-Do. From here on out, there'll be no more fighting until the tournament."

"So our enemies get to humiliate us and we just have to back down and take it?" Tory spat.

Kreese replied, "Of course not. We should always show our enemies no mercy."

"But there's a time to fight," Silver continued. "No need to waste a punch if it's not gonna score a point. So, if your enemies do something to mess with you, or laugh in your face, good. Take all that anger and store it. Because you're gonna need it when the time comes. Is that understood?"

"Yes, sensei!"

Terry started to walk off. "Miss Cain, I'd like a word please."

She frowned, ignoring everyone's looks and following Silver to the office.

He sat down, looking up at her. "Have a seat."

Ayane did as he said, sitting across from him.

Terry looked up, halfway smiling.

"So. Sensei Kreese tells me that you had a little relationship drama before joining Cobra Kai. Your ex-boyfriend was the All Valley champion last year, correct?"

Ayane nodded slowly. "Yes sir."

Terry nodded back, folding his hands.

"I believe you almost won last year's tournament, didn't you?"

She nodded again. "Yes. I-I hesitated."

Terry sat back.

"Well this time, we don't have any room for hesitation. Does it make it you angry that your ex-boyfriend and all of your former friends are on the opposing side now?"

Ayane blinked. "A lot of things make me angry, Sensei."

"That's good. I want you to remember what I told you yesterday. Let that anger stir in you. Keep it close to you until the right moment to let it out. Anyone that's done you wrong, you prove them wrong. I want you to be the best damn fighter that All Valley tournament has ever seen."

She had to admit, his words stirred something up in her. There was a lot she did have to be angry about, and Ayane imagined for a moment how good it would feel to win.

"Thank you, Sensei." She stood up.

"I will win."
