PROLOGUE >>> FIRST DAY
"ARGH— I'm late!" A small but energetic voice yelled, a tiny blur shoving through a group of Gryffindors and running down the corridor, stumbling and tripping all the way there.
The young first year only wore one shoe as she hopped on one foot, her brown hair falling in her eyes and almost falling backwards as she turned around, giving the group an apologetic smile.
"S-Sorry!" The girl, a Ravenclaw, yelled, the group chuckling at the sight of her scrambling to put her shoe on, her black and blue robes hanging over her shoulder. Her button-up shirt wasn't tucked in and her tie was on wrong, but not everyone could get dressed in time for classes. One of the Gryffindors, a fifth year, shook his head in amusement as he watched the young Ravenclaw struggle to keep herself from falling over.
"Need any help?" Oliver Wood called after the girl, who was now attempting to put on her robe and finding herself tangled up in it.
"Uh— well, yes, buuuuut I have to get to class," She grinned sheepishly, wildly gesturing at nothing. "Thanks for asking, though, I appreciate it. Do you know where the Charms classroo— wait, where's my other shoe?!"
The first year turned in a circle, stepping on her robes (which were much too big for her) and falling on her butt. Her bag's strap broke, the contents spilling everywhere. She groaned in frustration, staring at her shoeless foot. She had remembered to wear her long black socks, but why did she only grab one shoe?!
Tegwynn Roberts was having a rotten morning. First, she slept in late and her roommates hadn't bothered to wake her up, so Tegwynn missed breakfast, and by the time she had woken up, she was late for her first class!! Her first day at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was not going as well as she thought it would have.
Tegwynn leaned forward, her robes falling off of her as she did. She started gathering her things, grabbing a jar of ink, the lid popping off and splattering her in the dark black liquid.
"Aw, man!" Tegwynn exclaimed, shaking her hands, which only covered her white shirt with the stuff. "Agh!" She tugged on her hair in frustration, which was also a mistake, as she got ink on her face, too. She let out a noise, leaning forward and hiding her face in her hands (getting more ink on her face— not that it really mattered anymore).
Oliver chuckled, kneeling beside the girl. "Rough first day, huh?"
Tegwynn merely squeaked in response as Oliver began to help her gather all of her things.
"I can walk you to your class, if you'd like?" He asked Tegwynn, who nodded shyly, biting her lip. She had managed to put her robe on, but it was still too big for her. "Charms, right?"
Tegwynn nodded again, her hazel-y brown eyes darting around the room as she hugged her bag to her chest (after making sure it wasn't upside down first, of course, though that probably wouldn't have made a difference). Her face and hands were covered in ink, and her hair was sticky and stuck to the sides of her face. She hid her ruined shirt under her robes, however.
"Hey, don't be embarrassed." Oliver told her. "It's your first day. And you're not the only one who's late. Mae here got lost as well," The older boy pointed to a Gryffindor girl who stood with two second year Gryffindors who had been talking to Oliver— Angelina Johnson and Alicia Spinnet, who didn't seem to mind the interruption.
Mae had long, dirty blond hair that had been pulled back in a neat ponytail, though a few loose strands of hair had fallen into her face. Her blue— no, grey— or were they green?— eyes looked Tegwynn up and down, and the girl smiled shyly and waving at her.
"Hi, I'm Mae Foster," Mae held out a hand for Tegwynn to shake before noticing the ink. "Oh— I'd shake your hand, but I think your ink did first.."
The two girls laughed, Tegwynn smiling. The awkwardness in the air was gone before it had even arrived. "I'm Tegwynn Roberts. It's nice to meet you, Mae,"
Oliver smiles at the two girls. "If I'm remembering this correctly, today Charms is an all houses class, so I'm pretty sure you two can head there together."
Tegwynn and Mae nodded, the first years both a little nervous.
"I'll show you guys the way," Oliver explains, leading the two down the corridor after waving a quick bye to Angelina and Alicia. Tegwynn and Mae followed, whispering to each other as they walked.
"Do you like Quidditch?" Mae asked, her eyes sparkling. Tegwynn cocked her head.
"What's Quidditch?"
Mae gasped. "Oh, we have a LOT to talk about!" She grinned, the two girls laughing. "What, have you been living under a rock your whole life?"
"Haha, no, not really. I'm a Muggleborn," Tegwynn explained, Mae's mouth forming a small "o" as the girl nodded. "I'm still learning. It's all so exciting, you know?"
"What? Magic?" Mae asked, grinning. "Magic is amazing. I'm a half blood, my mum is a Muggle. And I can help you learn! Well, about Quidditch, that is," Mae chuckles, Tegwynn smiling. "Oliver here is the captain of the team. I can't wait for next year! First years aren't allowed to join the team," she huffed, crossing her arms. "I know it's for our own safety, but still! It's so unfair!"
Tegwynn frowned. "So Quidditch is a sport, then?"
"An awesome sport!" Mae grinned before gasping. "Hey, after lunch do you want to go to the library together?! We can talk about Quidditch and read, too!"
Tegwynn gasped as well, her eyes sparkling. "I was gonna head there after anyway, so sure! I love reading,"
"I have the feeling that we're gonna be good friends," Mae said as she linked her arm with Tegwynn's, who nodded, smiling. "Me too,"
It looks like this morning turned out to be not as rotten as Tegwynn had originally thought. She even had a new friend!
<<< ⏳ >>>
A few days had passed since Tegwynn's first day at Hogwarts, and yet she still can't arrive to any of her classes on time.
"Sorry I'm late!" The Ravenclaw exclaimed as she burst through the door, her hair a wild mess.
Only a few of the students in the class turned to look at her, as most of her fellow Ravenclaw's and the Hufflepuff's in her class had gotten used to her entrances by now.
Professor McGonagall glances at the first year, an eyebrow raised.
"You're late," She said, her dark grey eyes a little stormy.
Tegwynn sighed, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly. "I'm late..."
McGonagall merely gestured to her seat— even the Professors were used to her being late by now. But that didn't mean Tegwynn wouldn't be getting another warning. She really didn't want a detention, but she did need to work on waking up on time.
Tegwynn awkwardly shuffled to her seat, sitting down beside her friend Riley, who was also a first year Ravenclaw.
He looked as if he was trying not to laugh at her.
"Not a word!" Tegwynn whispered as she shot him a playful glare, but she couldn't help but smiled a little herself.
"You slept in again, didn't you?" Riley asked, grinning to himself. Tegwynn rolled her eyes and bumped her shoulder against his.
"Say it a little louder, won't you? I don't think Professor McGonagall heard you!" She teases. Honestly, Tegwynn didn't really care if the class heard him, since they all knew that's why she was late, anyway. She was starting to think that her roommates were messing with her. The alarm she had brought from home had gone missing— though she suspected that the oddly colored bird outside her window was her alarm clock, as it made the same noise her clock once did every morning at exactly seven am.
Riley laughed. "I don't think they care anymore, honestly,"
"Eh, you're probably right," Tegwynn shrugged as she took out her Transfiguration book as well as her parchment and some quill. "Did you finish Hogwarts; A History yet?"
"Yeah," Riley said, smiling. "I finished it at breakfast. You?"
"I read the last few chapters last night. This school has a lot of history! Did you read the part about the—"
"Shh!" McGonagall said, giving the two a look as she began her lesson.
Tegwynn and Riley nodded, Tegwynn looking guilty.
"Sorry," She whispered to him.
"You don't have to apologize, I was talking, too," He gave her a look.
"Sorry..."
"Stop saying sorry,"
"...sorry..."
Riley shook his head, laughing, Tegwynn's face red. After that the two stopped talking for the rest of class, both of them paying attention to the Professor as she continued the lesson.
After class, Tegwynn waved goodbye to Riley, who was going to meet his friend in the courtyard so they could head to class together and that he'd see her later.
Tegwynn looked at her watch and noticed that she had a bit of time before her next class (a double Potions class with the Hufflepuff first years), so she decided to head to the library to return Hogwarts; A History (and maybe pick out a new book to read as well).
"I have time," She thought to herself, waving to two Hufflepuff girls as she ran towards the library, nearly tripping over Mr. Norris, who watched her accusingly as Tegwynn ran into the wall before turning the corner.
By the time Tegwynn made it to the library in the ground floor, the girl was out of breath. She had, what, maybe ten minutes until she had to be in the Dungeons for Potions? Surely that'd be enough time to return her book and check out another.
Tegwynn decided that she'd choose the book she'd check out first, scanning the shelves, running her hand across the spines of the books as she browsed.
After a few minutes of looking, Tegwynn noticed a book on a shelf not too far from her. Even from where she was standing she could read the title, The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
Tegwynn cocked her head curiously as the leather bound book, the spine decorated in vines and twirls, little things like a human heart and a pot with a foot on it. She was already intrigued by the title and Tegwynn had no doubt that she would eat the book up as soon as she opened its pages.
She reached for the book but could barely reach it, even when she stood on her tippy toes. Tegwynn looked around for a ladder but couldn't find one. She reached into her pocket to grab her wand— maybe she could use that spell she read about, Accio— but it wasn't there, or in her bag. Tegwynn sighed in frustration, facepalming as she realized that she had left it in the Transfiguration classroom. It looks like she'd have to do this without magic, as fun as it was.
Tegwynn scrunched her nose as she stood on her tippy toes, reaching for the book. Her fingers touched the edge of the spine, and Tegwynn stuck her tongue out.
"Come on... just a little more... gotcha!" Tegwynn's fingers closed around the book and she grinned... until she realized that someone else had also grabbed the book, their hand on hers.
Tegwynn turned her head, letting go of the book as her brown eyes met green ones.
"Um," Tegwynn said, looking up and down at the boy who was suddenly standing beside her. "Hi?"
He looked about a year older than Tegwynn, a second year, with his messy red hair and freckle-covered face. His robes were old, probably a hand-me-down, but they were in good condition. He was about half a foot taller than Tegwynn, with long arms and legs, even for a twelve year old. His red and gold tie hung loosely around his neck and he had a sort of mischievous look in his eyes— a look that told Tegwynn he caused all sorts of trouble.
He cocked his head as her, a smirk playing upon his lips.
"Hello," The boy said, his voice quiet so that Madam Prince wouldn't hear them. He leaned towards Tegwynn, who turned red at how close he was.
He had the book she had been reaching for and was holding it above her head, just out of her reach.
Tegwynn's eyes narrowed as she tilted her gaze to look at the book before glancing back at the boy, who was smirking down at her. She raised an eyebrow at him and held her hand out in a "gimme" gesture.
"Can I have the book, please?" Tegwynn asked. The boy merely shook his head at her, grinning wide.
Pouting, Tegwynn tried reaching for the book, but he only held it higher.
"Hey—" Tegwynn huffed in frustration. "Why are you—"
The boy laughed at the sight of Tegwynn jumping up and down to grab the book.
"Hey, I found the book first, you know!" Tegwynn said, almost grabbing the book before the boy held it up again.
"Yeah, maybe, but I'm the one who grabbed it, so you have to jump for it!" The boy laughed.
Okay, he was really starting to get on Tegwynn's nerves.
Tegwynn gathered up her robes and jumped onto the desk, grabbing the book from the boy's hands before he could walk away.
"Ha!" Tegwynn grinned, holding the book over her head in triumph. "I win!"
Tegwynn did a little dance, the boy laughing and dancing with her. Grinning, Tegwynn spun around, loosing her footing.
"Woah—" Tegwynn waved her arms back and fourth, trying to catch her balance before clutching the book to her chest as she fell backwards. "Eep!"
Tegwynn scrunched her eyes shut and waited to hit the ground, only someone caught her. She slowly opened her eyes.
"...sorry," Tegwynn stuttered, her face turning red. The boy was looking at her with an eyebrow raised, an amused smile on his face. Why was she so clumsy?
"Are you okay?" He asked, Tegwynn nodding.
"I-I'm alright. I'm naturally klutzy, so..." Tegwynn hugs the book to her chest, her eyes darting from him to the book.
He chuckled.
Silence.
"...y-you can put me down now..."
"Oh. Oh, right—"
He put her down, Tegwynn's face was redder than a strawberry. The boy rubbed his neck, opening his mouth like he wanted to say something but he stopped himself.
After a few more minutes of silence Tegwynn decided to try and break the ice.
"This is awkward," She said, trying a smile. "N-Not that you're awkward, I-I'm awkward!" Tegwynn panicked, waving her hands around wildly. "You're gorgeous... wait—"
"Hi, Awkward!" The boy joked. He seemed to be unfazed by Tegwynn's comment, but his heavily freckled cheeks were a little pink. "I'm George Weasley,"
George grinned at Tegwynn, who was hiding her face in her hands as he put an arm around her shoulders.
"And I agree, I am gorgeous, aren't I?" He joked, wiggling his eyebrows. Tegwynn stares at him, too shocked to answer.
After a moment George raised an eyebrow, waving a hand. "And you are...?"
"Oh!" Tegwynn blinked, carefully grabbing George's wrist and taking his arm off of her before moving to stand in front of him. "I-I'm Tegwynn Roberts,"
"Well, Wynn, it's very nice to meet you," George bowed jokingly, winking at Tegwynn, who smiled shyly.
"Um, it's Tegwynn, actually—"
"You're a first year, aren't you?" George asked her, still grinning. "I assume you are, because I think I would've remembered meeting someone like you last year if you were my age."
"Yes, uh, I'm a first year." Tegwynn said, trying to hide her blush. "I think I've met your brother, Percy, before. He gave me a lecture on how to properly wear a robe..."
"Ah, yes, Perfect Prefect Percy," George sighed. "My brother can be like that, always striving for perfection. Personally, I just think he has a big head,"
Tegwynn laughed, George grinning. He was about to say something when someone else appeared beside him almost as if by... well, magic!
"Hey, Georgie, did you find it yet, or— oh, why hello there!" George— wait, not George... two George's?— put an arm on his brother's shoulder, leaning on him. "And you are?"
Tegwynn's jaw dropped and she glanced from one George to the other before taking a step back.
"Hold up— am I seeing double, or are you—?"
"Twins?" The Weasley Twins glances at each other mischievously, both wearing matching grins.
Tegwynn blinked several times. Okay, one George was enough. But two? Sure, she only just met them, but Tegwynn had a feeling these two weren't going to leave her alone...
"Twins," Tegwynn said, glancing between the two boys, who nodded.
"Why, yes—" George said.
"—yes, we are." His brother finished. "I'm Fred," he continued, his grin a little more wider than his brother's. "And I can see you've already met George. He's a keeper, ain't he?" Fred winked.
"Oh, come off, Freddie." George rolled his eyes. "We both know I'm a beater,"
Tegwynn shook her head, watching the two twins talk back and forth, laughing.
"You two are too much," Tegwynn signed, trying to walk away, but suddenly both twins were on either side of her.
"Oh, we do try." George grinned, putting an arm around Tegwynn. Fred also put an arm around Teghan, who felt both trapped and intrigued.
"Hey, you're a Ravenclaw," Fred said, pointing out the obvious. "You're smart. Could you maybe tell us where we can find more interesting books?"
Tegwynn stares at him. "You're in a library,"
"Yes, but what we're looking for—"
"—isn't something you'd find in a regular old library." George finished, watching Tegwynn as she pulled Hogwarts; A History out of her bag and handed it to Madam Pince.
When Tegwynn was done checking out The Tales of Beedle the Bard, she turned back to the twins.
"We're in a magic school," Tegwynn pointed out. "And besides, I have the feeling you two don't want to read this book, whatever it is."
"You got us," Fred said, holding his hands up in fake defeat.
"We're going to enchant a book so it follows Flinch around and bites him,"
"Isn't that kind of mean?" Tegwynn asked, the twins giving her weird looks.
"Maybe, but it's all good fun. Its not like it's going to hurt him,"
"Maybe his pride, but I think that broke long ago."
Tegwynn shook her head and was about to say something when she saw the time on her watch.
"Aaah!" She started running, shoving her book in her bag and almost tripping over a stack of books on her way out. "I'm late! AGAIN!"
George and Fred watched as Tegwynn flew out into the corridor, almost falling over before she disappeared around the corner.
Suddenly, Tegwynn's head popped back up again, awkwardly smiling at the twins.
"It was nice meeting you!" Tegwynn shouted, waving at them wildly. "I'll catch you gator— aGk, LATER!"
She disappeared again, a book falling out of a hole in her bag.
George walked over and picked it up, waving at Tegwynn's retreating figure, a smile on his lips. He looked up to see Fred's grinning face.
"Well, that sure was interesting," Fred crossed his arms, an eyebrow raised. "Wasn't it, Georgie?"
George stares at the book in his hands— The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
"It looks like we'll have to return this to her," He held up the book.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Fred smirked, putting an arm around his brother. George grinned.
"Always,"
George and Fred are so iconic, tbh. And you guys are going to love Tegwynn and Mae's friendship, hehe 😜 And just wait until you meet Am— oh, boy, you guys are in for a few surprises.
The first few chapters will probably be up in a few weeks!
P.S. ART IS HARD, I FINISHED WRITING THIS ON MONDAY AND ONLY JUST FINISHED THE ART— there was original,y gonna be, like, six drawings, but I chose to just do two in the end. Each chapter is probably only going to have two to three art pieces because if I did more than that you'd probably only get updates every few months :P
