~ Dreams [A\N] ~

***NOTE: This dream is kinda old now, so you are more than welcome to just ignore it if you don't feel like reading something THIS long. And move on with the introduction and the story, lmao. If you wanna read it then go right ahead, nothing is stopping you. But, you aren't obligated to if you don't want you. :P***

Okay so, whilst we are waiting for chapter 4 to finish up. I had this crazy dream and I thought it would be cool to tell y'all about it.

I think I might do this every now and again whenever I have dreams that are cool enough to tell. Because why not, it gives y'all something to do while waiting for the next chapters.

Once again, I'm ONLY doing these chapters for dreams that are actually worth telling. So, these won't happen too often, so it won't distract from the actual story. :)

Also, this dream isn't as long as it seems. I know you're scrolling, and it's long. But trust me, I only had like 5 hours of sleep this night, my brain just loves creating stuff in a short amount of time. AND I'm an author, so I love me some crisp detail. Lmao. Enjoy. Xx

[Word count: 8,232]

Either way, here's the dream:

So in this world in the dream, dragons were a thing. You're given an egg the day you're born, and by the time you're like 2 years old, the egg is hatched into a baby dragon. Of any type, really. And you grow up with this dragon, the dragon grows with you. So that way, you two get attached and bonded.

These dragons that you're bonded with, can talk. But like, only YOU can understand what you're dragon is saying, no-one else.

I was tagged as a special rider. As my dragon was made of fire. Not literally, the her scales were crimson and she breathed fire.

Apparently, there hadn't been a fire dragon in many centuries. So, that's why I'm tagged as special. Because, I'm the first in literal centuries.

The lore goes further. As there is in fact a dragon who blows blue fire, which is the ultimate weapon. Nothing can beat blue fire. The tale of this dragon was told that he was known as a "Ghost Dragon", because his body glowed a brilliant blue flame, and his skin was made of pure bone. It was like he was born with his skeleton on the outside and his flesh on the inside.

It's also known that him and his rider have been alive and soaring the skies for absolute eons, and they've been causing chaos to villages and so on. It didn't matter how many dragons and their riders attack him, he always wins. He kills them all.

They called the rider "Azrael" and his dragon "Eug".

"Azrael" is translated to "The Angel of Death". And "Eug" is translated to "The Angel of God".

But also, keep in mind; the Grim Reaper's real name is, Azrael.

This is basically what, Eug, looks like. Not exactly 100%, but, extremely similar. 95%, at least.

We grow up and we train and then when we're old enough we are thrown to war with Azrael and Eug. Our goal is to kill them both, because he has destroyed everything and he is evil. But no-one has been able to kill them, they always seem to win no matter how much you train or how much you grow.

It's a literal suicide mission, and I grew nervous with every year I aged.

And soon I reached the age of 17. I'd be told to go kill Azrael and Eug the next year when I turn 18, which is insane. It was such a young age to be thrown into a suicide mission like that. But it was what it was.

This was the rule of the King in this village, and it was a harsh one. It wasn't like he was a bad King. In fact, he was a rather good King. He just had harsh laws to the ones with dragons.

I walked down the fields with my dragon following right behind me, as plucked weeds and flowers. My best friend had been sent out to kill Azrael and Eug just yesterday, and I was worried, I've known her my entire life, we watched each other's dragons hatch despite only being two years old then.

I was picking flowers and weeds in preparation for when she is pronounced dead. I know, I should've been rooting for her and thinking positive thoughts. And I WAS rooting for her. But, this rider and dragon have been alive for eons, and no one has been able to kill them. No-one.

So, as you'd expect. I didn't have much hope. And so I was only being prepared for the worst.

"Lydia, what if she wins and kills them?" Snevilline asked. "How do you think she'd feel knowing that you picked these flowers out, expecting her to be dead?"

Snevilline was the name of my dragon, she was quite the beautiful dragon. But she was also intimidating, with her crimson scales and her glowing red eyes.

You would've thought she was born inside the heart of a volcano. But, no.

I often called her Snev for short.

This is the closest to Snevilline I could find. About also, 95% accurate.

"If that happens, then she'll just have to forgive me." I say, as I pluck the last remaining flowers and weeds to tie them together with. "And if anything, she can take them for celebration."

And just like that, a large bell rung. We both perk our heads up to listen. It meant that the rider and their dragon are back. My heart raced.

I didn't even think twice, I just made a bolt for the castle and the village. I wasn't leaving Snevilline behind, I knew all too well she'd catch up in no-time, or even run ahead of me.

But it wasn't long until I felt claws wrap around me, and now I dangled high off the ground. I looked up in shock only to see my Snev. I grew a big smile and a laughed lightly. As I quickly climbed up, and sat on her back. We had no saddle or gear, I prefer riding my dragon bareback completely. But Snevilline did have armor, but that's only used for going against Azrael and Eug.

We also practiced that a lot. Your dragon grabbing onto you, and you climbing up to their back at a fast pace. It was very useful, for certain situations.

When we got in front of the gate of the village, Snevilline landed and I hopped off. But by the time I ran up closer, I stopped. Only to see guards hauling two bodies. One my size and the other large.

They both had tarps over them, out of respect. But I could see the arm of my best friend dangling out of her tarp. And the blue wings of her dragon dangling out of the other.

Visca Willow was her dragons name, and she had called upon the sea.

My features dropped and I felt saddened at the sight of my poor best friend.

"I told you so..." I hummed in a low voice, hardly audible. But Snev heard it nonetheless.

"And I am sorry." Snev answered.

***

I was determined to make this stop. I didn't want to go out next year, only to die in the end for no reason. Because this was obviously not going to stop. Azrael and Eug cannot be stopped, and that was obvious.

I wanted to just live my life with Snev and the friends that I have left, which was hardly very few. They were after me in the trial.

So, I entered the headquarters of the King and Snevilline followed close behind me as if she were my bodyguard. She obviously did not agree with me, because she was wired to think that this was her way of life by the law, and so on.

Although, Snevilline wasn't too fond of the King's headquarters. They weren't friendly towards dragons, they only saw these creatures as their only purpose being for war and destruction not a companion.

But, I knew that was wrong. Snevilline was my best friend. My family. My only family, for that matter.

What of my family? You might ask.

Well, that's a long story for another day.

I saw Snev's throat heat up to a glowing orange-yellow, as smoke erupts from her nostrils and tips of her scaly lips. A low growl rumbled from her chest.

I put my hand up to signal her to stop, "Snev, no. They won't hurt you, not when I'm around."

And when that, she stops. And goes back to normal.

"What can I do for you this fine afternoon, Miss Snev?" The King asked.

He often called us by the names of our dragons, it was easier for him to remember.

Nervously, I proceed. "I declare the end of these trials. I understand why we need to kill Azrael and Eug, but it's never going to happen. It didn't happen eons ago, it won't happen now."

"Alright, your wish will be granted. But at a small little price."

That was easy... "What's the price?"

The King snapped his fingers, and just like that an iron cage was released and fell over Snevilline. As the guards swarmed her, they threw iron chains around her mouth to stop her from blowing fire. As other guards lined up and down both sides of her neck, and brought out their swords. Ready for their cue to impale and destroy a life in one go.

As another guard was holding me back as I tried to get past. "Wait stop! What're you doing?!"

The King sat back and watched the chaos unfold, "You don't wanna cooperate with the law. So, your dragon is to be executed."

"Why?!" I hollered, trying to get out of the guards grip to get to Snev.

"Because," The King scoffed. "What's the point of a dragon if it is not sent out into war? or a battle?" He then finished with. "They are not pets. They are not companions. They're weapons, Miss Snev."

"What will happen if you kill her?" I asked, my voice hoarse because I'm trying not to show how upset I was.

"Simple; you become an outcast and are shunned from the village and the next dragon and their rider will be sent out instead, a year earlier than they're expected." He explained.

He was a good King. But that didn't mean he wasn't cruel. You can be good, but that doesn't mean you don't have any bad in you. That's not how life works.

"I would rather die than live without Snev!" I screamed, I was highly emotional.

The King raised a brow and gave a sharp grin, "That can be arranged." He snaps his fingers again.

And suddenly I had a sword pressed into my wind-pipe, and it was tight. As I leaned back and grabbed the guard's metal plated arm.

I stared at the King with fire in my eyes. And it seemed to correlate to Snevilline.

Because before I knew it, Snevilline's eyes glowed a darkened crimson, a deadly shade of red. And she forced her jaws to open, which shattered the chains and she roared with a loud husk tone, right from the gut. Breaking out of iron cage and causing guards to yelp as they fling back.

The guard holding me held fear as he seemed to let me go and fall back in shock. All the King did was frown in disappointment.

I saw that Snev was conjuring up fire in her gullet, as she aimed right for the King. But he didn't move a single muscle, he was waiting, he was challenging her and me.

I quickly ran in between them both, and held my hands up to her, "No!" I yelled, my voice echoing along the whole castle. "We are not violent! We do not turn against our own people! We are not evil, we are not murderer's, Snev!"

I then finish with, "We are not like Azrael and Eug!"

"Now do you see why they aren't our companions?" The King hummed, I could feel his smirk behind my back. "So quick to change their mind; So quick to snap in the moment. They are animals, Miss Snev. They should be treated as such."

I was starting to think maybe he wasn't that great of a King after all if this was his mindset, he was showing his true colors. He's never spoken like this before, and I was beyond confused.

But nonetheless, I kept my eyes on Snevilline. Through my soft glare she knew I was telling her to just ignore him, and to stand down. It wasn't worth the trouble.

Although, I do understand why she was so hostile in the moment. Fire dragons were known to be quite aggressive when they want to be.

The last fire dragon, which was centuries ago. Ended up getting a little too aggressive and burnt the whole village down, and even managed to eat his own rider alive.

I just got lucky with Snevilline. We had a powerful bond, I was the only one who could calm her down when she got aggressive. I'm almost certain that if it wasn't for me, she would've caused chaos in the village, just like the last.

And so with that, Snevilline swallowed her fire and sat down with an unsatisfied snarl.

I sighed and looked to the King, "You win. I don't want to lose my Snev, so I shall comply. But it is unwillingly."

If I must lose her in this fight, I may as well go down with her. A world without Snevilline, is like, a world without peace. A world without Oxygen.

"Good." He smiled coolly. "You made a wise choice, Miss Snev."

***

A year had gone by and I was now 18, it was my time to shine as Snevilline and I got ready to attempt in killing Azrael and Eug to better our future without evil and much more.

I wasn't even able to say goodbye to any of my friends who would attempt after me the in the next years if I should fail. They just got us ready, gave me a sword, and off we went. No time to waste, I guess...

And so Snevilline flew as I was on top, and we flew far away where Azrael and Eug normally resided. It was a good ways away from the village and castle. Around us was a whole forest, a field next to it and even a large ravine that connected to a rapid river below and more forest below that.

And that's when we heard an ear-curdling roar and my skin crawled in cold goosebumps at the sound. My ears winced at the sharp roar. And Snevilline growled and shook her head in pain of such a sound.

And that's when Eug came into view, Azrael riding on top.

"Oh..." I breathed.

Snevilline finished my small sentence, "... My dear lord." She was just as shocked.

I knew Eug was massive. But I did not expect him to be THIS massive.

Imagine the empire state building. But add twenty more on top of each other and surrounding the area all at once, that was Eug.

Snevilline was a big dragon.

BUT.

Snevilline and I were like butterflies compared to Eug and Azrael.

And now I understood perfectly well why he was impossible to kill. Eug was more chaotic monster than dragon, to be honest.

"There's no way, we're too tiny..." I breathed in astonishment.

"We have no other choice, Lydia. We've gotta try." Snevilline grumbled.

As we got even closer, Snevilline stopped with a light grumbled gasp.

"What?" I asked. "Snev, what is it?"

"Look at his sword." She pointed out with her tone. "Do you know what that is?"

I squinted, and I saw it.

Azrael held a sword far larger than mine, it could cut me in two-halves in mere seconds.

But I noticed a small detail. It glowed a disgusting green.

"It glows?"

Snevilline answered, "Not just any glow. It's a luminous green."

"And...?"

"It's poisonous, Lydia. Very fatal." Snevilline explained. "One single paper-cut from that sword, and you're dead from it's poison within two hours."

"Well..." I gulped. "... best not get cut then."

Eug roared again and turned, he seemed to spot us and now headed right for us. And already they attacked without even a single introduction, or a single train of thought.

Eug blew fire, just like Snevilline.

But it was blue fire. I had almost forgotten that he was known as the "Ghost Dragon", so the blue fire made a lot of sense. But, I just wasn't actually expecting for it to be true.

How does one kill a ghost dragon? I wondered. If it was a ghost, wouldn't it be immortal? I had to find ways, and I had to find them fast.

But just as the blue fire dissolved, Eug and Azrael were nowhere in sight. I looked everywhere and so did Snevilline. It was like he was the worlds best wizard or magician. He was gone.

And within a split second, I was being grabbed by the feet and claws of Eug from above as Snevilline roared and followed underneath as fast as she could.

I was like a teacup chihuahua compared to Eug's own feet and claws, which was insane. and still blew my mind.

Eug let me go, as if that was his plan. And I fell hundreds of feet. I fell down the ravine and towards the rapid river. From the height I was falling, which again was hundreds of feet, maybe a thousand. The water would kill me instantly with a harsh thudding slap.

Snevilline allowed herself to fall towards me, curling her wings to push herself to fall faster. My helmet easily fell off, and half of my armor with it. All I had was my sword, and that's it.

I could feel my head blanking in and out of consciousness due to how far and fast I was falling, but I did my best to keep myself awake. For Snev and for myself.

And just in the nick of time, right before I could even slam into the rocks before rolling into the rapid river. Snevilline grabs me with her feet.

But, in doing this she had no room to fly back into the sky. She had no choice but to crash land, as we were at the very bottom of this ravine and there was no wing-span space.

So Snev did what she did best, keep me safe and alive. She wrapped her wings around herself, which covered me entirely. And she braced for impact.

She crashed into the next forest that was below the ravine, demolishing trees by the dozens with her whole body. And soon she hit the forest ground, as she rolled and growled.

Her entire head and neck got caught underneath her body weight, almost snapping and killing her instantly. As she let out a loud wail. And she rolled down a few hills. Until she eventually landed with a loud thump that made the ground quake onto a ridged rock.

Here wings go limp as I am let go, and I fall off of the ridged rock and the rest of the way down a cliff. I wailed as I felt a harsh pinch of pain, and my back hit the bottom of the cliff. I coughed harshly as I had gotten my breath wildly knocked out of me.

But, next thing I remember, was blacking out completely.

***

My eyes fluttered, I felt hazy. I was surprised to still be alive, to be honest. I stared at the sky and noticed that night had fell, and I wondered how long I was out for...

I wondered where Azrael and Eug were...

I was still alive, so the fight still wasn't over yet. I still had time to kill them both, or try. As long as I'm still breathing.

I carefully pushed myself onto my knees, and winced at another sharp pain. And that's when I noticed something...

My own sword had been lodged my left shoulder, it JUST about missed my heart. By an inch.

And now it made sense why I wailed right before I hit the bottom of the cliff. My sword must've fallen out of it's holster and got caught up in the fall. It was really harsh, the fall.

I wasn't trained all my life to whine about it. So therefore, I grabbed the hilt of my sword, and I pulled it right out. Luckily, it wasn't bad enough to bleed out, I'd be just fine. Just a little sore.

I then suddenly remembered, "Snev?" I called out in question. "Snev?" I repeated. I looked everywhere as I put my sword back into it's holster.

Looking all the way up, seeing her laid upon the rocky cliff a few feet above me, a wing draped over herself and dangling.

I had eventually found my way up to her, and I took a huge breath of relief the moment I saw her stomach rising and falling. That told me she was still breathing, and the beat of my heart slowed a tiny bit knowing she was alright. Probably even more sore than I was, but she was alright, and that's all I asked for.

I rubbed my hand against her face, "Snev, wake up." She only mumbled.

I then heard a loud ear-piercing roar in the sky above, I looked up and around and then back down at my dragon. "Snev, please wake up!" I was in a hurry. "They're here!" But all she did was moan, her chest vibrating.

And as if I willed it into existence, I jumped with a gasp as Azrael landed swiftly with no broken bones, right behind us. I turned to face him, and I looked to the sky to see Eug stilling circling us, and then I looked back at Azrael.

He just jumped down, like it was nothing. If I did that, I'd break my legs and my spine. And this made me grow even more nervous at how strong he really was, since he could do that as if he was immortal.

I brought out my sword and held it in defense, ready as I'd ever be to defend myself and Snevilline. I'd be d*mned if I let him or Eug touch Snevilline. Not without going through me first.

Azrael chuckled darkly, "This is cute, a night time snack. Seriously, if this is all your King has, then he should resign tomorrow, this is boring."

He then brings his poisonous green glooming sword out, and of course just like his dragon, his sword is so much larger than my own. In fact, his sword was just as tall as I was...

He made my sword look like a toothpick...

This is impossible... I've said it multiple times, but I'm saying it again. This is a suicide mission.

I began to feel as though the King didn't want to kill Azrael and Eug. I now felt like this was just a big cruel game. Because he knows we won't kill them, they're too big, too powerful, too great.

This is all just a game, I saw that ill-ridden smirk on his face and it was awful. And so from now on, I've changed my mind about him. He was no good as a King. He was a fool.

I came back to reality as he swung his sword, our swords clanked together as I brought mine up as well. He swiped in a circle and already almost knocked mine out of my hand. But I managed to keep hold of it.

For a moment I thought about waking Snevilline up and us fleeing. But then I remembered that wouldn't work. We couldn't go back to the village and castle, we'd be murdered for not finishing our trial. And we can't just fly away into oblivion, because then we'd be hunted by Azrael and Eug until death do us part. So, this was the only choice. Kill or be killed.

Our swords clanked once again. But he let go, and with one swift move that my eyes could not decipher, I was easily on the ground on my back. He hit me so incredibly fast, with lightning speed, I had no clue of what just happened.

He slashed his poisonous sword down towards my face, as I thought fast. I always had quick reflexes, and I was grateful for it.

I brought my sword up, and held the hilt with one hand, and the blade with the other. And his poisonous one was held against the side of mine, as I kept him away. And of course, just as expected, my hand bled from my own blade.

"You call this a challenge?" Azrael mocked with laughter. "I can do this in my sleep."

He pressed down harder, and I felt myself let out light groans as I tried to push back as hard as I could. "You may as well give me the win." He snarled.

The point of his green poisonous sword laid against my collarbone, just ever so slightly. One push further and I'd be cut, and have two hours to live.

I jolted as fire blew into Azrael's face. It caused him to holler loudly and fall back along with his sword. As he went to hide beyond trees, and put himself out of the fire.

I felt my collarbone, and it was smooth. I was relieved to know I wasn't cut. I got to my feet and looked behind me.

A big smile grew on my face, to see Snevilline alive as ever and full of energy. In a stance of intense protection towards me, her eyes ablaze and smoke flowing from her nostrils and jaws.

The fire didn't bother me one bit, I had been bonded with her for so many years. And been close with her, I've grown accustomed to it completely. I've noticed that I don't even sweat anymore around fire, at all.

I then thought of how Azrael reacted to Snev's fire. He seemed almost scared, in pain and shocked. And I've made a discovery...

Maybe the reason why Azrael and Eug hasn't been killed yet is because, there hasn't been a fire dragon in centuries, until right now.

I've come to conclusions that Azrael doesn't like fire, even though Eug blows blue fire. It was all so confusing. But, I felt confident knowing that I had an advantage.

Maybe Snevilline and I really did have a chance after all. For such a fearsome Supervillain, he sure was petrified. And that was satisfying to me.

***

In the middle of the fight, I was on foot in the open field, my back against the lining of the trees of another forest. My sword out and defensive, as Eug slowly walked forwards intimidating me.

My sword would do absolutely nothing to him. In fact, my sword would be like stepping on a splinter. But it was all I had. Rather die trying than a coward.

A smile grew on my face as Snevilline came running in blowing fire in Eug's face, without any sort of hesitation.

Even though Eug was like an Argentinosaurus compared to her. Snevilline was like a Spinosaurus compared to him. She wasn't scared, as long as I was safe, she was happy.

[Look those dinosaurs up if you have to, to see the HUGE size differences. Trust me, you'll be shocked with how big Eug really is compared to Snevilline, lmao. I'll give you a hint: the Argentinosaurus was the biggest dinosaur that ever step foot on the planet. The Spinosaurus was the FIFTH biggest dinosaur of all time. Let that sink in, lmao.]

Though Snevilline was smaller than Eug, she was giving it all she had. She wasn't letting him get in a blow, she kept attacking without stopping or even taking a break. She didn't want him to get a hit in, because he was bigger, he'd do more damage.

Snev blew fire into Eug's face none-stop, without taking a breather. And as she did so she clawed at his chest and the area around his neck, to do some sort of damage to him. To get him weaker, to make it easier for me when I finish him.

Snev was ripping stuff off of him, but it was not flesh. It was bones, as he growled in reaction to it. The blue wisps inside the bones flared, as she ripped more and more off of him. I was rooting for her all the way.

Who knew fighting fire with fire could actually work.

Snev had been on top of Eug this whole time, as he was big enough for her to be on. She was like an annoying fly that kept getting into your face.

I watched as Azrael came around a stoned corner with his poisoned sword, and I brought mine out. Whilst Snev and Eug are at it, it would be me and Azrael.

Our blades clanked together, and I was doing really well, training my entire life up until this moment really did pay off. A few times I had to hide behind a few stone ridges, and then attack again.

But had eventually sliced a cut against his hip, as he winced and looked at it. I felt proud being the first one to actually wound him in centuries. Let alone it being him before me. It was a memory that would be cherished.

But that's when I heard a heart wrenching screech, as Azrael and I both looked the way of our dragons. And it was like my heart was in my throat, and I felt so utterly sick at the sight.

Eug had sunk his teeth into Snevilline's throat, as she scream roared into the Heaven's. She flailed and scratched at him, as he held her up to the sky.

Snevilline tries to blow fire into Eug's face again to stop him. But Eug only bit onto her throat harder, drawing blood and causing her to welch and squeal. Her voice box was ruptured and it now sounded funny. And she began to choke on her own fire.

"Snev!" I screamed as I went to run, not caring about the battle anymore.

"No!" Azrael gurgled, grabbing onto me. "No, you watch. Watch her suffer, don't ruin the fun." He giggled wickedly, as if he derived pleasure from this action.

I tried everything in my power to get him to let go, hitting the butt of my sword against him, slashing at him. Nothing seemed to work.

"Watch." He whispered into my ear, that grin plastered onto his face with a nasty snarl and horrendous breath. "This is the fun part."

And just like that, Eug makes one swift move. And the neck of Snevilline has been snapped, as her breath seemed to escape her lungs entirely. The red luminous glow of her eyes fading into nothing but a blackhole of a lifeless corpse. I felt like I had lost my own breath too, like I lost my other half.

As Snev went limp, full ragdoll, Eug swung his head and tossed her over. As she landed with a roll and slid, right near my feat, but about a foot away.

Azrael finally let me go, as I didn't even hesitate to run over to my Snev as I put my sword onto the ground next to me for now. I wasn't even worried about Azrael and Eug being around me, for I did not care in this moment.

"Snev?" I shook her. "Snev?" I repeated. But I knew she was dead, I hadn't a clue why I was even trying...

My eyes stung with wetness, "Snev..." I said again. That's the only thing I could form right now, nothing else was on my mind but her.

We were weapons trained for battle. We weren't supposed to cry, it was practically illegal. A dragon is an animal, not a companion. Why would we cry for an animal? Why would we cry for something that wasn't human?

But here I was. I was a mess. "... Snev..." I said once more.

I now had nothing to live for. I was going to be titled as an outcast since I had no dragon, because I was dragon-born. And I was going to die by the hands of Azrael and Eug.

So... why even fight it anymore? My Snev is dead. And a life without Snevilline, is life without fresh air.

I rubbed her large face, her scales were so cold and frail now. And I hated it.

"Face me." Azrael broke the silence. "I want to see your face when you taste the poison of my blade."

At this point I had no more will to fight or live, so I complied with ease. I turned around, but I staid on my knees because I felt so numb, dull, empty and broken.

"Get it over with then..."

And so he proposed a speech, but I didn't care to listen so I zoned it out without regret.

But as I did so, I began to look at his sword and the way it glowed a forest green. I then looked at Eug behind him. And I noticed the hole Snevilline had made before her horrible death, when she was tearing bones off of his blue wisps.

It seemed to lead to a spot right next to his heart. It was also glowing green, just like Azrael's sword. And it was fully exposed, thanks to Snevilline.

I looked back and forth. Glowing sword, glowing spot on Eug's chest, same color. Repeat.

I connected the dots. I knew exactly how to kill Eug.

I eased my breath, my heart racing at the thought and new discovery. Could I pull this off? I didn't know, but I had to try.

For Snev.

I gripped the hilt of my sword tighter, rubbing the pad of my thumb on it at the same time. And I waited. I waited for the right time.

And the moment Azrael looked back at Eug, that's when I struck. I took the chance to catch him off guard. And I swung, aiming right for his own heart.

But Azrael was not stupid. It was like a flash of metal and a very loud clank, and then another clank as something hit the ground below.

I stared at my sword in shock, it had been cut in half. He hit hard enough, he broke my sword. I was dumbfounded.

"Do you think I'm that idiotic?" Azrael spat. "I saw you grip your sword. How pathetic do you have to be to think I wouldn't see that?" He scoffed.

I gritted my teeth and swung again, I'd kill him with this sword now turned into a small dagger, or so help me.

He slashed his sword once again, and I felt burning pain. As I let my dagger that once was a sword go, as I was now weaponless completely.

"I told you to stop, and see what you did?" Azrael sighed. "When will you ever learn?"

I looked at my hand, there was a cut around my wrist from his blade. As arm grew black veins as the poison was already surging through.

And so this was it. This was the end. I was officially going to die in two hours. I foresaw this though, I knew I was going to die in the end just like everybody else.

It's just not fair.

"Don't worry," Azrael hummed. "I'll be nice and put you out of your misery, it's the least I can do..." He looks over at a dead Snevilline. "... considering." He squints with a grin. I pursed my lips and furrow my brows.

Was I really going to let him kill me? I thought. After all we've been through? After all I've been through?

Azrael raised his green sword and was ready to impale me right through the heart to give me mercy.

I was already dead, I may as well go all the way... I was going to bring both of them with me.

I mentally sighed. F*ck it.

I quickly brought my hands up as it pushed towards my chest. And I grabbed the blade with both hands to keep him from succeeding in my death.

Azrael was in shock of what I just did.

Both of my hands bleed, and even more poison entered my blood stream. I pushed the blade away from me, and then when Azrael least expected it, I yanked as hard as I can. Which forced him to let the sword go.

And now it was I who held the green glowing poisonous sword.

Before Azrael could even process what was happening, I grabbed the hilt quickly and slashed at him. Cutting his cheek, causing him to bleed. And now he was poisoned as well.

"Not so nice now is it?" Now I was the one who grinned. "Join the club; but you aren't welcome."

I stood up, and as he was stunned wiping his face from the blood that had turned into black ooze. I drove the blade straight through the cage of his chest, right dead center.

Our faces were so close, we could feel each other's shuttering breath. He stared at me and I at him. He had no last words, there was none to give. But he knew I felt pity. He knew I was hurt. He saw the pain in my eyes, he knew it was because of Snevilline.

And just by the look on his face, I knew he was trying to say 'I'm sorry'. But I didn't want his apology, I didn't deserve it coming from him. But, still, I let him have my pity anyway.

It was the least I could do.

I pulled his sword out, as I saw his pupils widen. The sign of a corpse. And his body made a thud when hitting the ground.

Catching my breath, I brought his glowing sword closer to my side as I looked up at Eug. "Come on, you don't scare me anymore."

And it was like the roles had switched. Now Eug feared me. He made a run for it.

Now I was the Villain of his story.

Now he wanted to run, oh, the irony can be too sweet sometimes. But I hunted him down, I still had two hours left, I had time.

I wasn't scared in the slightest anymore, I was going to die in the end anyway. And I wasn't going to stop until I brought Eug with me.

I killed Azrael. I wasn't going to let Eug get away, find a new rider, and start the cycle all over again. No way in Hell, would I allow that to happen.

So now that I was dying, I went all the way, no mercy. I was living proof that even the tiniest can be the mightiest, as cliché as that sounded.

I knew exactly where he was going, he headed for the ravine. The same one Snevilline and I had went through when I was falling.

I jumped off the cliff of the ravine and hoped for the best. And to my surprise, I landed on the back of Eug like some superhero. Like Azrael had done back in the forest. And I didn't break a single bone. I was determined, so that made me stronger.

By this time I had one hour left until all of this poison would reach my heart and kill me, I hissed at the next wave of pain and tumbled over mid-flight.

Grabbing onto one of Eug's spine bones that prodded out of his back to keep my balance, as I quickly swiped Azrael's sword before it could fall over and never be seen again.

I did that tactic that Snevilline and I always practiced, I climbed down, around towards his chest. And I was getting ready to impale Azrael's sword into the glowing spot of Eug's chest that matched the swords color. I was certain this was how you killed him.

But of course it wasn't going to be that easy, Eug wrapped his claws around me as I struggled and yelped. I was so close.

Continuing to fly, Eug brought me up to his face to get a real good look at me. We made eye-contact. He growled as his nostrils and mouth willed with green smoke and blue fire was ready to blow.

Without a second thought, I quickly plunged Azrael's sword straight into Eug's right eye. I had no idea whether the poison affected him or not, but I didn't care.

Eug scream-roared, which caused my to cringe, my ears almost bursting into the Niagara Falls of blood. Almost.

He released me, but I grabbed onto his claw to keep myself from falling. As he didn't realize that he brought me down towards his chest. He wasn't paying attention, he was rubbing his now wounded eye with his other claws.

I tried to impale that spot on his opened boned chest, where Azrael's sword needed to go. But he kept bobbing his claw up and up, causing me to miss it every time.

I groaned in annoyance, I didn't have time. I've been counting. I had forty minutes left until death. And so I did possibly the most dangerous thing I've ever done, in my entire life.

I climbed further onto his claw, as I now stood on it and did my balance to not fall. Eug felt this as he growled.

I angled Azrael's sword upwards, right at the hole in Eug's chest, the shimmered the same color as the sword.

Eug brought his other claws down, ignoring his pained eye socket.

And I could've sworn I heard Eug scream, "Don't you dare!" In a horrifically dark gurgled voice. Which confused and shocked me, as you can only hear your own dragon speak, not anyone else's.

But, I did not let that distract me. With all of my might and the rest of my strength, as the poison took away the rest. I pushed Azrael's sword up with sheer force, and it plunged right through the green glowing hole in Eug's chest.

He screamed even louder. But this time, it wasn't a scream-roar. No. It sounded more human than anything...

His claw went out from under me, as I clung onto the hilt of the sword and dangled above the clouds.

I pulled myself up, and I twisted the blade sideways, cutting in even deeper that the hilt almost even got devoured. Eug let out another dying wail.

Soon enough, I watched in victory at what I found extremely satisfying. Fulfilling Revenge for Snevilline.

The blue wisps underneath his skeleton body turned into a deep green, as they withered on themselves. His skeleton seemed to shutter as I held on tightly.

And it was like he was sent back in time. The wisps were all gone, and Eug was nothing but a large dragon skeleton falling out of the sky.

I was going with him, but I wasn't worried. What mattered was that it was done, it was over.

Azrael and Eug were dead, and the trials can officially end and people can stop going on this suicide mission.

And I was going to die anyway because of the poison. I only had twenty minutes left now...

The moment we collided with the forest, I had instantly blacked out. I didn't know what happened and how we landed.

***

I opened my eyes, and I was somehow still alive...

I painfully sat up and saw that I was back at the village, I was being nursed back to health and so on.

Someone saw that I was awake and brought me up to the castle, I guess to talk to the King. I was still in shock that I was alive.

The King explained everything.

He explained how they found me just in time, they knew I won as it wasn't hard to see a giant creature fall out of the sky.

They knew I wasn't going to make it to the village, as I had only ten minutes left with the poison and the journey back would take an hour. And they knew that, so they brought stuff that would cure me and cured me when I laid in the forest among the exploded bones of what once used to be Eug.

"And before you ask." The King said. "Yes, we have Snevilline's body with us, we gathered her too. We do this with all of our dragons and riders."

"follow me."

And so, I followed, limping slightly. But I followed.

He showed me the body of Snevilline, and I fell sad, once more. It was hard to even look at her.

"Do you know what the name 'Eug' means?" The King asked.

I shook my head. He says, "It means 'Angel of God'. Ironic, I know."

He then adds, "I wanted to give you the ultimate gift, since you fought so hard, and you won in the end. And this was my great plan to do so."

He snapped his fingers and the guards gave him a bag. He pulled out a dragon's heart from the bag.

"This is the heart of Eug."

I was stunned. I expected his heart to be tar black, because he was so evil.

But no...

His heart was such a pure white that it was blinding.

"Now, come." The King motioned. "I want to show you something."

I came to him, next to Snevilline.

"Tell me. Do you truly love this dragon?" He asked.

I nodded.

"Is she your best friend?"

I nodded.

"Is she your family?"

I nodded.

"Is she home?"

I nodded for the last time.

The King lastly said, "His name is Eug and it means 'Angel of God', Azrael's name means 'Angel of Death', together they make an ultimatum. Otherwise known as; good and evil."

He finished wish, "Where there is death, there also comes life."

They cut into Snevilline as the King put Eug's heart inside, as they stitched her back up in an instant.

It took a few minutes, but then; a breath as her chest heaved. She slowly sat up, her head close to the ceiling as she looked around and then down at me.

"Lydia." She says, with a toothy smile.

I felt tears prick my eyes and I smiled back, "Snev!"

I tackled her in a big hug, as snuggled her head into me and wrapped her wings around me.

"You did it!" She was excited.

"No, we did it." I smiled. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have been so determined to get my revenge and end this chaos. I wouldn't have pushed myself over the edge.

I looked at the King and I didn't even have to say anything, he knew I wanted to thank him. All he did was smile and nod back.

I was happy that this chaos was over, and I could live with Snevilline and the village in peace and harmony.

"Oh, and one last gift that you shall receive for your heroics, Miss Snev." The King hummed. "We also found thing among the rubble of dragon bones and tree bark as you lay in the middle. I think it's only right that you call it yours now, since you are the one to kill Azrael and Eug, after all."

I look as the guards bring Azrael's sword to me, pushing it on a pedestal. It was interesting...

It no longer glowed a deep green, nor was it poisonous anymore. There was nothing tied to it anymore. I stared at it, and looked around, almost expecting Azrael and Eug to come bursting through the castle at any second.

"Well? Have at it." The King smiled.

And the most peculiar thing happened...

The moment I grabbed the hilt of Azrael's sword, it was like I could feel the power as it ran through my veins and very soul. And I could feel the knot as the sword tied me and Snevilline together as one, the bond officially unbroken.

And now... now it was no longer Azrael's sword. It was my sword. And it glowed a crimson red, the specs of the glow wavering like fire stirred from lava.

I didn't need to test my new weapon out. I just knew that anyone that was to be impaled by my blade, would catch afire. An element that was far greater than just poison.

This told me something I've known for awhile. I was now completely immune to fire. Even if I were to jump into a pool of lava or frolic through flames of a forest fire, I would be unharmed, in one piece.

Though, Snevilline and I could become the new Azrael and Eug. But, we'd make sure that never happens. Never again.

I faced the King and I began to think, maybe the he wasn't so bad after all. Not anymore, at least.

THE END

Thoughts?

See y'all in the chapter four. <3
