       A PEARL ━ THAT WAS THE NAME BESTOWED ON HER WHEN SHE WAS BORN ON A WARM JUNE EVENING, WITH beautiful glinstering eyes Maggie took her first innocent breath among family members. A pearl, she grew up to like the meaning of her name very much. Pretty and rare, just like she unknowningly was herself. Years passed and little Maggie Hendrix grew up, innocent laughter slipping passed her lips as she ran through the meadows in glee. Carefree adventures playing heroes as the sun sunk beneath the horizon. The fact alone, that the life before change was so good, is also the biggest tragedy. Full of dreams, and jubilance, Maggie was destined for great things according to her little town. Surely the sun would shine on her face, illuminate just as brightly as her desire for golorius fantasties conjured in her dreams.

Once upon a time, when she was round eyed and hopeful, when she believed in wishing upon stars she would know—one day, I will change the world.

    And yet ━ life in its own cruel way decided that innocent Maggie Hendrix could no longer be innocent. There were no wishes coming true, at least...not in the way she wanted them to. How devastatingly cruel, for fate had woven her journey with misery and heartache. Yes she might change the world—but it seemed the world believed her to be burning it down. All her days dreaming of valiant heroes, of playing the knight in shining armour—crushed and broken to pieces. The world saw no hero in her, saw no savior before them.

How they had loved heroes in movies, the brave, sacrificial men and women laying down their lives. They should have warned her, that in their eyes, a hero was normal, average and certainly not bestowed with powers. People did not want those kind of heroes living among them, not the ones like Maggie Hendrix.

A villain—that is what they saw when they looked at her, malice in their words as they glared and stared and demanded her to leave.

    The life after the change had made her an outsider, in her surroundings, but also in her own skin. A young child, trapped with the pain no child should endure.

     First she lost her town— as they turned against her, afraid of everything she was capable of, then in a blink of an eye the people she considered friends saw her as nothing more than a freak, a monster and in the end, she lost herself. Her innocent glinstering eyes dulled, her dreams disappeared and all that was left was hiding everything she was.

     The cruelties of life had taken a liking to her, to make her feel powerless against a world that rather see her drown. She was too different ━ too unique... too rare. How ironic and forloren a thought that the things she had adored so much as a little girl, would be the very same thing that ruined her now.

    So now Maggie, in her peril, decided that living in denial was better than living in fear. She becomes plain, and quiet. A shadow on the wall, a whisper of wind. She may carry the x-gene, but that doesn't mean she has to like it.

    She should not have to apologise for the way she is glueing the pieces of her life back together.

    And she never would again.
