Chapter 3

But as life would have it, as soon as Milly returned to school, her locker was defaced with words like "whore" and other degrading insults.

"Gee, this school doesn't have a repellent for sluts," a girl joked as she walked past.

Milly's stomach twisted. She had only told one person about the pregnancy—how could he have told everyone? Determined to confront him, she made her way toward Jeremy. The insults were thrown at her with each step like a punch in her ears.

It was early, so he was probably still in his car. And sure enough, as she reached his G-Wagon, she could hear the faint hum of the engine and see the rocking slightly. She knocked on the window.

She didn't care what Jeremy was doing. He needed to know about the mess he had just created. But before she could speak, Olivia emerged from the vehicle.

"Gee, Milly, even with a pregnancy, you're trying to get laid?" Olivia sneered, adjusting her clothes. "Shouldn't you be ashamed?"

Milly's blood grew red, and without thinking, she punched Olivia.

Jeremy stepped out in front of them, gently blocking her. Olivia shrieked, running off and holding her nose as blood trickled through her fingers.

"Milly, apologize. Olivia is my girlfriend now," Jeremy said, his voice cold." You can't be acting like this because I am not interested in you."

Milly's eyes widened. "Apologize?" she repeated, her voice rising with each syllabus. "Why should I apologize?"

The frustration consumed her and she decided to release it all. "Out of all the jerks I ever slept with, you're the dumbest self-entitled bastard I ever met." she spat, shaking her head. "All you did was tell me you were 'finding yourself.' "

Her voice exploded as she imitated his words with her fingers digging deeper into his upper chest. "How can you expect me to commit to someone if I don't know who I am? Wasn't those your words? It won't be fair to you. And I end up trusting an idiot who creates a mess!"

His body hit the back of his vehicle, but her eyes were still burning with fury. "You had the nerve to spread it through the entire school. All I wanted was for you to help me fix, what you created. But no that's too hard for you to comprehend so, you just had to ruin everything!"

Jeremy's fists clenched at his sides, and his eyes burned with a glare down at her.

"You know what, Milly?" Jeremy sneered. "I should've listened, everyone when they told me steered clear from you. You're too easy." His eyes scanned her with disdain. "I've got a future, a path. Just because you don't, doesn't mean I have to throw mine away. I'm going to college, I'm going to live my life. I'm not going to let you ruin that for me. You think just because I might have been the richest guy you slept with I'm going to fall for it? No chance."

He turned to walk away, the bell ringing as he entered the school. But, he stopped, at the door glancing at her with a smug smirk brewing on his lips.

"You're welcome," he mockingly said. "I was just letting the actual guy who got you pregnant know you needed help. Wasn't certain who it could be, cause you know......" He walked off laughing.

She tried to shake off his words as she went inside. Focusing on the lesson, but the bullying wouldn't stop.

"Camilla Johnson needed at Principal Jones's office."

Her body grew cold as she heard her name called over the PA system. Her legs slowly moved toward the principal office. Once she entered, she saw Jeremy and Olivia sitting side by side.

Milly groaned.

"Camilla," Principal Jones said, his tone sharp. "Did you punch Olivia for no reason other than Jeremiah rejecting you?"

Jeremy's smugness remained and Olivia's smirk was all she needed, for a flamed form in her stomach. Jeremy would always have the school's favor because of his wealth, and Olivia was protected because she was the principal's niece. Her answer didn't matter and that irritated her.

"I didn't punch her for no reason," Milly shot back, meeting the principal's gaze. "It has nothing to do with Jeremiah. She was bullying me, so Mr. Jones are you going to remind them bullying isn't allowed in any form."

Principal Jones glanced at the
two of them and then gave them a small smile. "Olivia and Jeremiah, you could return to class."

A frown skid on his lips, once his eyes darted to Milly. "And Camilla, we need you to take a pregnancy test to confirm you're not. We don't need students parading their pregnancies around here. This school doesn't encourage it."

He just wanted to skip over the bullying she was facing.

She let out a dry laugh and took the test with no debate. She watched the nurse tell Mr Jones whose face twisted in disgust.

"I am not even surprised, you've always been a troubled student, over the years. I was at least hoping you would graduate, but now look at you," he said, shaking his head, as he allowed the guidance counselor in. "The guidance counselor and the nurse will discuss your options."

Milly barely acknowledged his words. Her gaze flickered to the guidance counselor, who observed her with sympathy and disappointment.

"Camilla, you were finally making strides this term," the counselor said gently. "I recommend you still attend school. However, I highly suggest you transfer to an alternative school. Also, you would prefer you could sit the exam for the GED."

Milly glanced at the pamphlets handed to her and scoffed. "You mean the school for troubled kids?"

Neither the counselor nor the principal responded.

"What about Jeremiah? Will he have to transfer too?" she asked with a bitter laugh.

Mr Jones and Nurse Jackson exchanged a look of annoyance, before fixing their gazes on her. "This is not the time for jokes, Camilla. This is serious," Mr Jones said, his voice firm. "We suggest your parents come in so we all can discuss your options, but since you're eighteen, it's not required."

"I am serious," Milly shot back, her voice sharp. "He's the father, but I'm the only one being ostracized. And I don't even want this baby." The words came out in a rush, she didn't even care how disrespectful they were before she walked out. Not caring if they were done.

Once she stepped into the hallway. Students poured out of classrooms with the bell clanging. Filling the space with noise and laughter heading towards the cafeteria most likely.

Jeremiah, surrounded by his friends, was walking in her direction laughing like nothing had changed.

It was just a normal day for him.

Then he smirked at her.

His mouth opened, and she saw red. Before she realized it, her fingers shaped into a fist.

And her knuckles connected with his jaw.

The crack of the impact silenced the hall for a moment. Jeremiah staggered back, gripping his face.

"Screw you," Milly spat.

"Good riddance!" he yelled as she walked away.

Her feet carried her aimlessly as the weight of everything settled on her. Her mother would find out soon enough, whether from the school or her younger brother. The lecture was inevitable. The punishment is unavoidable. And the disappointment—deep enough to cut through flesh and bone—was something she'd known her whole life. Making her wish she had somewhere else to go than home.

Still, she had no choice. She wasn't about to beg Jeremiah for a place to stay. He was the reason she was in this mess.

By the time her feet moved towards her home, the sky had darkened, with storm clouds filling it.

Her mother was waiting on the porch. Austin walked beside their mother as they entered the car, smirking as if this was all a joke to him.

Milly knew exactly where they were going. Without her mother speaking.

The hospital.

I will like to make it known that I do not condone violence in any form. However, I aim for realism in this story. Milly's emotions are overwhelming, and at this point in her journey, her anger speaks louder than her words.

Do you think the school handled Milly's situation fairly?

Do you think Milly took it too far by punching Olivia and Jeremy?
