CONFRONTATION

Henry didn't expect to be back in Harare so soon but the capital loomed before him. It probably seemed insane to his mother that he had only been there for a few days and was already returning on important business.

Her response, a simple hmm, told him that she probably suspected drugs at play. But he had left behind everything of his besides his phone and John's laptop.

The aforementioned important business was meeting Donald and Clinton in person. Two days before, Donald had reached out to the man in black and got a meeting with Wesly Frost. It was the chance they were waiting for and it came easy, too easy. Henry may have been anxious, but he wasn't afraid.

That motherfucker should be afraid of me...

He navigated his way through downtown to the Kelly's chicken located corner fourth street and Jason Moyo Avenue. As agreed, Clinton's car was parked across the street. He sat in the back of the blue Mazda, greeting both Clinton and Donald.

"Okay" said Clinton as he clapped his hands, "Game plan?"

"We tell him that were onto him" said Henry,

Donald and Clinton shared a questioning glance,

"Then?" asked Donald

"We see what he says. If he talks shit, we fuck him up"

"Hmm" said Donald, "Are you sure you're in the right state of mind for this?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that isn't the best plan"

Henry knew that it was a foolish plan. Theres no way someone like Wesly Frost wouldn't have security joined to his hip.

"How about we leave out the beating up a powerful CEO part and just gauge his reaction when we confront him," said Donald

"I second that," said Clinton

"Fine"

At the MeetFirst HQ reception Donald was the one to fill in his personal details. The receptionist called Mr. Frost's office to confirm if he was expecting a Donald Steinfield, Henry West and Clinton Sibanda. Henry held his breath, beating himself for not calculating this portion of the mission. But when the receptionist smiled and told them to enter the elevator and go to the ninth floor, he was relived.

The elevator doors opened onto an aesthetically pleasing floor. There was a carbon white path, thin a narrow to only allow one person at a time.

Flanking it were rectangular pools of water colored pink by lights at their bottoms and pink roses. As they approached the large double door, they noticed a portrait of Wesly standing on the edge of a cliff with a blazing torch in his hand.

It reminded Henry of those old paintings of world rulers one would find in a museum or a history book.

Specifically the famous one of Napoleon Bonaparte in a dress with an expensive looking stick in his left hand.

Donald raised his fist to knock on the door but before he made contact it opened by itself with a soft click. On the other side, holding the door open for them, was a large man dressed in all black with glasses and a thin cigarette in his mouth.

The office was surprisingly anticlimactic when compared to the hallway outside. It was your basic CEO office. Lots of space, leather sofa there, library there and big desk. Behind said desk was Wesly Frost. His back was turned as the villain stared at the city.

He turned around and looked at each of them in turn. Behind, the man in black closed the door lightly and crossed his arms.

"Hello gentlemen" said Wesly, "Why don't you take a seat"

A few feet from his desk the wooden floor panels separated and ejected three white cushioned stools.

"We rather not," said Henry

"You look tired" said Dean, "I insist you get of your feet"

Henry took a seat, sure that Dean was not the type of person to enjoy saying things twice.

"I'm glad you finally decided to take the money" said Wesly, "Zimbabwe is a tough place, you could go a long way with five thousand"

Dean came with a duffle bag in hand and dropped it next to Donalds seat.

"I'm not here for the money," said Donald

Frost maintained a cool look of indifference,

"We're here to tell you that we know what you did," said Henry

Frost and Dean shared a second long glance,

"And who are you?" he said

"I'm the brother of John West," said Henry, "One of the people you killed through your SimuDate program"

Frost interlinked his fingers and gingerly reclined into his chair.

"I see" he said, "Do you want the money"

The anger that had been building up in Henry's very being burst forth,

"You think a human's life is worth five thousand dollars?"

"I'm sorry for your loss Mr. West, but how am I accountable for the loss of anyone's life"

"My brother died because of your fucked up experiment you son of a bitch!"

Henry had shot up from his chair at some point during the outburst. But Dean gripped his shoulder and forced him back into his seat.

"Unfortunately Mr. West, but I think you're accusing me of something that I didn't do. Besides, last time I checked, murderers were reported to the police, may please leave my office and try that if you're confident in your accusations"

"You're sick, a sick fuck that's what you are" spat Henry

Wesly took off his specs, blew on them and wiped them with his shirt.

"You're making me uncomfortable Mr. West," said Frost as he stood up from his chair,

"And I tend to get...defensive when I feel uncomfortable"

On his way to Wesly's office, Maverick May ran into a group of three visibly disgruntled gentlemen. One of the men, a short man with a brush cut and charred lips was complaining about something and vowing that he would burn the building down if he had too.

He already knew what it was about, many relatives and friends of the deceased at come to the office. Most of them had just taken the money and left which made the group he ran into peculiar. Grosse had also suggested that Wesly make the grief-stricken people sign non-disclosure agreements, but he had denied that piece of advice thinking it too suspicious.

When he was a few feet from the door, may heard Wesly shouting. He opened the door and saw Wesly jabbing his finger up into Deans face mid-outburst.

"So what the fuck am I paying you for huh? For shit like this to happen? Huh?"

"I'm a professional," said Dean, "A person is not a target unless you say so?"

"So why am I hearing the name John West now?" said Henry, "Why is there still a virtual gear out there somewhere?"

"That was an error on my part that can be corrected asap"

Wesly palmed his face. He noticed May's presence after a few moments.

"What's that?"

Wesly was referring to the brimming file in Maverick's hand.

"Mid-year statistic reports. I need you to sign them"

Maverick threw the file on his partner's desk. He looked each of them in turn,

"What's going on?"

"Dean here is out here leaving loose ends even though I'm paying him by the hour that's what's going on"

Maverick had been failing to sleep or eat properly for the past month. He still believed that confessing the companies sins in a court off law was the Christian thing to do. But ever since the threat in the boar meeting, May was more afraid of Wesly and Dean than of his conscience. Even if he risked it, he had a family to worry about. He couldn't leave Shiela and the kids because of a hero complex. But at the same time it haunted him every waking hour that he approved a program that led to the death of fifteen innocent people.

"I don't like this Dean, I really don't"

Wesly sat at his desk and ripped his laptop open. He typed away furiously before showing Dean the screen.

"Is this him? Did you kill this man?"

Dean lit a cigarette and nodded.

Maverick caught sight of the picture on the laptop. John west looked like a younger version of the man he met in the hall way who had vowed to burn the building.

"So you're telling me there's still a gear at..." he checked the screen, "13 Bakersfield Road?"

Dean ashed out his cigarette and crossed his arms.

"Oh you're a mute now? Great! Fucking dandy!"

Wesly threw the mac book on the desk and threw himself into his chair,

"Take care of it Dean" he said in a low voice, "And make sure you take care of those pests too"

"Well that went well"

Henry, Clinton and Donald entered the car, defeated, deflated and depleted.

"I can't believe he actually denied with a straight face," said Donald, "He really genuinely is unfazed by what he did"

"When you're as rich as he is I guess you can do whatever the fuck you want," said Henry

He flicked his cigarette butt out the window of the car and lit the last one from the pack.

"Damn, and I thought John was the chimney of the family"

"Is"

"What?"

"You said was as if he's dead or something. He's still alive"

An awkward silence thickened the car.

"What should we do now?'

"I don't know" said Henry, "But I can't leave now, I have something to sort out before I go back"

By that he meant he wanted to buy a month's supply of weed so that people wouldn't see him buying it back at home.

"You could crash at my place," said Donald, "I'd appreciate the company"

"Thanks"

Clinton started the car and they drove off. Henry caught a glimpse of Wesly looking at them from his window.
