Big Gun

Bucky's POV

"Let's go, Buck. We got all of them." Sam says as the team turns back to head home.

"Zemo is still out there." I say, turning the opposite direction. As long as he's still breathing, Ally is in danger.

"He's probably long gone. Let's regroup and track him down." Nat says.

I sigh. "I'm gonna do one last sweep. I'll be right behind you." I lie. They all nod and make their way out of the building as I continue to check the rooms.

I reach the end of the hallway and clench my jaw. They can't be gone. I can't lose her again.

I hear soft, almost inaudible, footsteps approaching and quickly turn to knock whoever it is on their butt. I look down to see Ally on the floor and gasp before helping her up. Big mistake.

She immediately flips me onto my back and tries to slit my throat but I grab the knife with my metal hand and throw it far out of her reach. Before I can say a single word, she wraps her hands around my neck. I quickly flip her onto her back and pin her to the ground.

"Let her go." I hear that sickening voice from behind me along with the sound of a gun cocking and freeze.

My heart pounds in my chest as I look down at Ally, an emotionless expression on her face.

"The gun is not aimed at you, Sergeant." He speaks again and my eyes widen. "This is your last warning."

I quickly let go of Ally and she jumps to her feet. I rise to my feet, standing between the two of them as Ally stares at me.

"Let's go, Lex." Zemo calls.

She takes a step forward but stops and glances at me again.

"Lex. Now." Zemo raises his voice.

She blinks a few times as she looks at me and furrows her eyebrows. "James?" She whispers softly.

Zemo mumbles something to himself and pulls out some other type of weapon. He aims it at Ally and presses the button without hesitation. I try to push her out of the way but nothing happens. Instead, her expression becomes blank again as she brings me to my knees.

"Follow us and she gets a bullet in her head." Zemo says as he pushes Ally through one of the doors in front of him.

I clench my fists and watch as they go through a hidden tunnel. Would he really shoot his most prized possession? More importantly, would Ally rather die than be taken away again? I know I would if it was me.

I take a deep breath before jumping to my feet. I promised her I wouldn't leave her behind again.

I run down the tunnel, only being noticed once I get close enough. I knock the gun out of Zemo's hand after he misses a shot aimed at me and punch him hard enough to knock him out for quite some time.

I turn to see Ally with the gun in her hand and put my hands up in surrender. "I'm trying to help you."

She looks between Zemo and I, clearly confused, as she keeps the gun pointed at me.

"Just put the gun down, doll." I speak softly, walking towards her.

"Not another step." She growls.

"Ally." I say, stopping in my tracks. "You know me."

She clenches her jaw as her finger wraps around the trigger. I look into her eyes and see the fear behind them. She maintains eye contact and takes a breath before pulling the trigger.

Alexandra's POV

A loud noise snaps me out of my trance and I look at my hands to find a gun. I immediately drop the weapon and look up to see two bodies on the ground. My heart sinks as I recognize one of the bodies to be James.

"Oh my God." I whisper and hold a hand to my mouth. I run over to them and place a hand on James's back. He turns his head to look at me and I furrow my eyebrows. "James? I.." I look back over at the gun. "Did I..?"

"Zemo." He says. "Nice shot."

I glance at the other body, which I now realize belongs to Zemo, and notice the bullet hole in the side of his head.

I look back up at James and wrap my arms around him as tears begin to roll down my cheeks.

"Did I hurt you?" I ask, pulling away to examine him.

"I'm fine." He smiles softly. "You did quite a number on Steve, though."

My eyes widen. "Steve?"

He nods. "He was taken prisoner the day before we bumped into one another. By the look on his face when we found him before, he saw you. And boy was he messed up to prove it." He chuckles.

"Is he okay? What did I do?" I panic.

"He's fine, he and the others are back at the compound." He brushes my hair out of my face.

I nod and try to piece everything together despite the gaps in my memory. "You came back for me?"

"There's no way I was leaving here without you." He looks me in the eyes.

I feel my heart jump in my chest but quickly look away. I can't feed into this behavior. He told me the way he truly feels, I'd be stupid to fall for this charade again.

"Let's go home." He says.

"Home? I can't exactly go back to my apartment now that all of Hydra knows the address." I point. "And I can't just show up at the compound after being dead for..." I think for a moment.

"Almost a month and a half." James finishes my sentence.

"A month and a half?!" I gasp.

"They'll be shocked and confused, for sure, but they'll be happy more than anything." He says, turning to lead me out of the torn-up Hydra base.

"Wait!" I quickly run back to Zemo and grab the remote he used to control me. "Now we can go." I say, walking back over to him.

"What is that?" He asks as we climb out of the underground tunnel.

"Some remote thing that Zemo used to control me." I sigh. "I'm hoping I can figure out a way to disconnect it."

"I'm sure Tony could figure it out." He points.

I stop in my track at his words. Tony! Oh my God, this past month has probably been hell for him.

"How is he?" I ask after zoning out.

"Tony?" James asks, I nod. "He was a bit of a mess, but he's been getting better."

I slowly follow behind James as he leads me to Steve's motorcycle. He hands me the only helmet before starting the engine.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" I ask, wrapping my arms around him from behind.

"You have nothing to worry about." He says before driving back to the compound.
