Come and Get It

Steve's POV

"Alright team. Stay close, we don't know what to expect." I say as I grab my shield.

We make our way towards the base as the sun begins to rise and I break off to meet with Ally and Bucky at the meeting point I gave them. I sneak into the small bunker and furrow my eyebrows. Where are they?

"Guys?" I ask, looking around the area outside.

The ground begins to rumble and I steady myself. "Cap, you're gonna want to see this." Clint says into the comms.

I run back to the team and see that the building is moving. It reveals an opening on the side and my eyes widen.

"Let's get in there before it closes." Nat says, checking our surroundings as she walks.

"It's quiet." Tony points as we walk through the door. "Too quiet."

After looking in a few rooms, we stumble upon a group of little girls. They look like they're doing some sort of school work.

"We've been expecting you." Someone speaks and I turn to see an older woman walking towards us.

"How'd you know we were coming?" I furrow my eyebrows, holding my defensive position.

She chuckles. "We had no idea until your other teammates showed up last night."

My eyes widen.

"Other teammates?" Nat asks. "What is she talking about?"

I glance at Tony, who looks equally as confused and angry. Before I get a chance to say anything, the woman speaks again.

"Don't worry, they're being taken care of." She smiles. "Girls, you know what to do."

The army of girls drop what they're doing and assume fighting stances.

"This is all too familiar." Natasha says as the girls rush towards us.

"Don't hurt them." I say as I hold some of them back. "They're just children."

"They're killing machines!" Tony yells as he hovers about everyone.

"They don't know any better." Nat points.

"So what are we supposed to do?" Sam asks, blocking the attacks of the little girls.

"Restrain them." Clint suggests.

Alexandra's POV

I hear high-pitched shouts and furrow my eyebrows as I open my eyes. Helping myself up to my knees, I hold my head in attempt to calm my pounding headache. I blink my eyes to adjust to the darkness and see a slumped figure beside me.

"James?" I ask cautiously.

His head shoots up at the sound of my voice. "You're awake! Thank God." He weakly throws his arms around me.

We pull out of the hug and I quickly examine him. "What did they do to you?" I ask.

"They injected me with something to knock me out but that's about it." He explains, caressing my face with one hand.

"This is all my fault. It was my stupid idea that got us in this mess." I sigh.

"It's both of our faults. I could've stopped you." James points.

"You could've tried." I tease.

He lets out a soft sigh and there's a brief silence until he speaks again. "Do you remember anything from last night?"

"You mean the woman using me as a false example for the girls? Yeah." I clench my jaw.

"Is it true?" He asks. I furrow my eyebrows as I look at him. "The part about you not being able to conceive?" He explains.

I feel a pain in my chest and tears welling up in my eyes as I look at him. I look away and notice an air duct above us.

"Look." I stand and step away from him. After noticing that the room is completely empty, I look back down at James. "I'm gonna need a boost."

"Ally." James stands and pulls me closer to him. He knows I'm avoiding his question and he won't stop until I give him the answer—even though he already knows it.

I look up at him and sigh. "Do you really think Hydra would let us sleep together all those years ago if there was a chance of me getting pregnant?" I look away from him. "There's no way they'd compromise one of their best soldiers."

"So is the reason you don't want a family because you can't have one or because you actually don't want one?" He lifts my head.

I clench my jaw to fight my tears and pull myself out of his grip. "We need to get out of here." I change the subject. "If you lift me up I can crawl out to the other side of the door and let you out." I clench my fists as I plan our escape in my head.

Before I can say anything else, James wraps his arms around me and rests his chin on my shoulder.
I hesitantly unclench my fists and wraps my arms around James as well.

"I still love you." He speaks softly. "Nothing will ever change that."

I feel a tear roll down my cheek as we hold each other. Shouting from the other side of the door pulls us apart, forcing a change of topic.

"You need to get out of here." He says, looking up at the airduct.

Just as he's about to lift me up, I hear another shout and pause.

"They have to be here somewhere!"

I glance at James and he has the same look on his face. Steve?

I run to bang on the metal door but the sound of another voice makes me freeze in my tracks.

"You better tell us if these two 'teammates' are who we think they are." Tony threatens Steve.

I step away from the door until my back is pressed against the wall. James gives me a sympathetic look before walking over to the door and banging on it.

As he calls for help, I'm frozen in a daydream.. or a nightmare, actually.

Tony's POV

"Don't make me say it." Steve says, guilt written all over his face.

"You let us go on these wild goose chases for five months?!" Sam yells.

"Every time you had your little search party, you actually went to see them?" Wanda asks.

Steve sighs and just continues walking. My eyes widen and I grab Steve's arm to stop him.

"Have they been living together all this time?" I ask, anger flowing through my veins.

He gulps nervously and opens his mouth to speak but is interrupted by loud banging. I let go of his arm and turn towards the sound.

"It's coming from down here!" Natasha says as she runs down one of the hallways.

We find the door that's shaking because of how hard the banging is and I sigh in relief. "Move away from the door." I say, firing up my repulsors to cut a hole in the thick metal.

I kick the oval that I cut in the door down and step into the dark room. Thanks to my night vision, I see Barnes standing to my left and another figure against the back wall. My mask goes up as I walk towards her and she avoids eye contact.

"We have to go." Steve says as we hear loud footsteps echoing in the halls.

"Give me a damn minute." I yell at him before turning back to Alex.

"Tony, we really do have to go." Natasha says.

I sigh and try to pick Alex up but she moves away from me. She keeps her head down and quickly walks over to Bucky, who wraps an arm around her.

I clench my jaw and follow them out of the room. Fed up with this maze of a building, I blast a hole in one of the walls and we all run out.

"We'll meet you guys back at the compound." Steve says as he leads Bucky and my daughter another way.

"I don't think so." I follow them. "You're going with the team, you've got some explaining to do. I'll make sure these two get to the compound."

I send Bucky a glare and he sighs. I follow closely behind them as they walk to the quinjet that Steve must've stolen for them.
