Meltdown

Steve's POV

Once we're at the compound, we make our way up to my room and lock the door behind us. I see Ally sitting on the floor with a bottle of rum and snatch it away from her.

"What's going on?" I ask, setting the bottle down far from her.

"Give it back." She huffs, I shake my head. "You can't even get drunk, don't waste it."

"Why do you want it?" I ask.

"Because! Just give it back, Steve!" She stands and walks over to me. The vodka is definitely getting to her now.

I hold the bottle away from her and she stands in front of me with her arms crossed. I raise my eyebrows at her and she groans.

"James." She mumbles.

"What?" I furrow my eyebrows.

"I'm drinking because of James." She raises her voice and takes advantage of my confusion to grab the bottle from me.

"What did he do?" I ask, as she plops onto the bed beside me.

"I don't even know." She sighs, moving the bottle from her lips. "I'd say he broke my heart if I had one." She chuckles coldly.

"When I started feeling something for him, he admitted to leaving me behind to be Hydra's pet. Then he shows up and saves me and tells me that he loves me as if everything is fine yet he runs out with the others the first chance he gets." She looks down.

I place my hand on hers and she looks up at me. My heart jumps in my chest as I look into her eyes.

"I can't stay here." She says, pulling me out of my longing gaze.

"What? Why not?" I feel my heart sink.

"I meant what I said about all of you being better off without me." She sighs.

"Where would you go?" I hold her hand in mine.

She chuckles. "If I told you, you'd just follow me."

I blush and look down. She's not wrong.

"I'll be fine Stevie." She places a hand on my cheek, causing me to look at her.

"Well, if you're leaving.." I trail, brushing her hair out of her face. I glance down at her lips and she smirks.

"You know this is a bad idea, right?" She says, our faces inches apart.

"Everything I do is usually a bad idea but it always seems to work out." I point.

I press my lips to hers and she immediately kisses back. She places the barely touched bottle of rum on the floor before pushing me back and climbing on top of me.

As the kiss deepens, she slowly pulls my shirt over my head. A soft wince escapes my lips and she pulls away.

"Maybe we shouldn't." She says, holding herself up above me.

"I'm fine." I say, pulling her back down to press my lips to hers.

She pulls her shirt over her head and my hands roam her body. I feel the scars scattered around her upper body and see the multitude of bruises through the dim light.

After tossing her shirt on the floor, she presses her lips to mine and I flip us over so that I'm on top. I feel a sharp pain in my side and hold back a wince but my face must rat me out since Ally sits up.

"Alright, lay down." She pushes me onto my back.

"I'm f-"

"You're not fine." She cuts me off and I sigh.

I lay on my back and let out a soft wince as I get comfortable. Ally pulls the blankets over us and drapes her body over mine.

"In the morning I'll be fine." I say truthfully, making Ally chuckle.

"Go to sleep you dork." She kisses my cheek before resting her head on my chest.

Bucky's POV

Everyone is a few drinks in, laughing and having a good time, except for me—who can't get drunk.

"I think I'm gonna head back." I say to Sam, who just nods and waves me off as he talks to some girl he just met.

I grab my jacket and slip out of the bar before heading back to the compound. Part of me feels bad for going out, maybe I should've stayed with Ally. I just needed to clear my head and I couldn't do that there.

I go straight up to my room and knock on the door before opening it. She's probably asleep, it's almost one in the morning. I turn my little lamp on and furrow my eyebrows when I realize that she's not here, again.

I storm across the hall and swing Steve's door open, not caring if I wake them up. I turn the lights on and Steve sits up in his bed.

"Buck?" He asks, squinting at me.

"Where is she?" I ask, looking around his room.

He looks to his side and then around the room. I see a shirt on the floor and pick it up. When I realize that it's Ally's, my eyes widen and I look up at Steve.

"It's not what you think." He says.

"Oh yeah?" I raise my voice. "Why else would her shirt be on your floor?" I throw it at him as I clench my jaw.

"We were just making out! It didn't go anywhere." He catches the shirt and puts it on his bed before standing up. "Why do you care anyway? You're the one that broke her heart and then went out to do your own thing."

My heart sinks as I process his words. I broke her heart?

"She told me she was leaving." Steve speaks up. "I didn't know she meant tonight."

"Where did she go?" I ask.

"She wouldn't tell me. She knew I'd just go after her." He sighs.

I grab my jacket and the keys to Steve's bike. He tries to grab the keys back but I glare at him and he backs off. I storm out of the compound and hop onto the bike before driving off.

There's only one place she'd go. She wouldn't leave JAKS and her other junk behind.

Alexandra's POV

Once Steve falls asleep, I slip his shirt on and grab the bottle of rum before sneaking out of the compound. I take public transportation back to my old apartment and kick the door down. All my stuff is still here surprisingly.

"Hey JAKS." I let out a relieved sigh. "Miss me?" I chuckle as the AI welcomes me home. "About that, we're relocating."

I toss the now-empty bottle of rum into a bin and start gathering my things. My box of tech ends up being neater than my box of clothes.

I do one last sweep to make sure I didn't leave anything important before carrying my two boxes down to my motorcycle, which I retrieved from the docks. It's a shame that I don't have my car anymore, moving would've been so much easier.

I hear the rumble of a motorcycle nearby and groan, knowing that it's James. He wasn't supposed to get back to the compound this early. I quickly put my helmet on and start my bike. Maybe I can still get away.

I drive off into the darkness, smiling to myself, but squeeze the brake when another bike stops right in front of me. I make sure that my tech is still okay and sigh in relief that it is.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" I yell, staying seated on my bike.

"I could ask you the same thing." James shouts over the revving.

I clench my jaw and quickly turn my bike, driving off in the opposite direction. There's no doubt he's following me, the sound of the bike behind me confirms that. I can't let him follow me to where I'm going to be staying, which means I have to lose him.

Having no other choice, I turn off of the road once we're upstate and drive through the trees. After a few jumps and turns, I look back to see if I lost him yet. Not seeing any headlights, I smile.

While I'm not looking, my wheel must slip on something because my bike and I go tumbling down a hill. I land on my stomach and groan, slowly pushing myself up. I probably have a few cuts and scrapes but nothing too bad.

I see my bike a little further down the hill and gasp. JAKS. I run towards it, trying to get my box of tech, but just as I get close enough, the whole thing goes up in flames and sends me flying back against a tree.
