Overdose
Alexandra's POV
'Such a shame. Your offspring could've been glorious.' Zola sighs as he wipes down his tools.
'It had to be done.' Zemo says. 'The soldier wouldn't take kindly to being told how to play with his new toy.'
Everything looks as if it's spinning and I blink to try to focus. I feel a pulsating pain in my lower abdomen and look down but can only see my chest since there's a large sheet covering the rest of my body.
'You could've taken another girl.' Zola argues. 'She's only thirteen.'
Zemo shakes his head. 'This is the one he wants.'
'Well then.. She should be ready in a few hours.' Zola says.
I turn my head to the side to look at the two men. Neither of them seem to be paying attention to me. I feel myself falling unconscious and slip into the darkness.
I jump up in the bed and look around the dimly lit room as I try to control my breathing. I look at the digital clock to see that it's eleven twenty-three in the morning and my eyes widen. I never sleep this late.
I force myself out of bed and head downstairs in search of James. Once I reach the kitchen, I see Sam and Wanda sitting at the table and yawn as I walk over to them.
"Good morning." I smile at both of them.
"Morning? It's almost noon." Sam teases.
"Long night?" Wanda smirks.
"I actually fell asleep early. I'm not sure why I slept so late." I sigh.
"I could take a guess." Sam raises an eyebrow and glances at my clothes.
I look down to see that I'm still in James's T-shirt and blush. "My clothes are back at our apartment."
"Mm.. Your apartment, which you share with Buck." Sam smirks.
I roll my eyes at him and he laughs. "Speaking of James, have you seen him?"
"We trained a few hours ago but after that I thought he went back to his room." He shrugs.
"He may be in the lab." Wanda says. "I know Bruce was running some tests on his blood sample."
I thank her and make my way downstairs. The lab doors open and I see Bruce sipping his coffee as he analyzes some charts.
"He's not here." I hear Tony say from my right. "He left the compound about an hour ago with Steve."
I furrow my eyebrows. They left? Both of them? Without telling me?
"Thanks." I mutter, turning on my heels.
"Wait." He drops his tools and walks over to me. "I was out of line yesterday. I shouldn't have said any of those things." He sighs. "I know I haven't been there and I know I have a lot to work on but this whole dad thing is new to me too y'know." He presses his lips together. "Do you think you'd be able to give me another chance?"
I look up at him and sigh. "One more."
His face lights up and he wraps his arms around me. "I'm so glad you're okay." He cries. "When I saw the accident on the news I.. It felt like my whole world shattered. I was just getting to know you and then you were ripped away from me."
I slowly wrap my arms around him too. After a few moments, I relax into the hug and find a small smile on my face.
"I'm sorry." I speak softly.
"It's not your fault." He pulls away to look at me. "Just don't ever scare me like that again."
"No promises." I stifle a laugh and he smiles.
"So, you and Barnes?" He asks as he leans on one of the tables.
"I'm not good at this whole relationship thing." I admit. "But it's been going well so far.. I think."
Tony nods. "Any reason you were looking for him?"
"Just a nightmare." I press my lips together.
His expression softens and he steps closer to me. "Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not really." I look down. "I'm still really tired for some reason, I should go lay back down."
Tony nods and lets me go. I'm halfway out the door when Bruce shouts.
"Wait!" He calls. "You were injected with that stuff too, right?" He asks, I nod. "Can I take a sample of your blood? I looked at Bucky's but it came back clean. If it's still in your system I might be able to see what it is."
I shrug and hop up on a table. Tony puts a pillow under my head and Bruce puts gloves on before getting the needle and vials ready. He makes sure I'm okay before puncturing my vein and draining three tubes of blood.
He pulls the needle out and covers the spot with a bandaid. I hop off of the table and almost fall to the ground but Tony catches me. As my eyelids flutter closed, he looks at me with concern in his eyes.
Bucky's POV
Steve and I get back to the compound and carry in the boxes of clothes and things that we got from the apartment. We bring them up to my room and I furrow my eyebrows when I see that Ally is gone.
After setting the boxes down, we ask the others if they've seen Ally. Most of them say no but Sam tells us that she was looking for me a little while ago. Wanda says that she told her to check the lab, so that's where I look first.
"You're not authorized to be in here." Tony says as I walk in.
"Have you seen Ally?" I ignore Tony and ask Bruce.
"She's resting." Tony answers for him.
"Your blood sample came back clean. She came down here earlier and I took a sample from her but she passed out afterwards." Bruce explains.
I turn my head towards the little
room that they have in the lab for when Tony works long hours and see Ally asleep on the bed.
"Is she okay?" I ask, still looking at her through the glass window.
"She seemed fine. Maybe she just got a little bit lightheaded." Bruce says, I nod.
I walk over to the room and Tony follows. "She had a nightmare." He says and I turn to face him. "That's why she was down here, she was looking for you."
"A nightmare?" I ask, he nods. She hasn't had a nightmare in months. "Did she say what it was about?" I ask. He shakes his head.
I sigh and turn back to her.
"I didn't thank you." Tony speaks again. I furrow my eyebrows at him. "For taking care of her."
My expression softens and I press my lips into a thin line as I nod.
"You love her?" He asks.
I look at her and take a deep breath. A small smile creeps onto my face and I blush as I look down at my feet. "I do, yeah."
I hear Tony sigh but before he can say anything, Bruce gasps.
"What is it?" Tony asks.
"Are you sure you two were injected with the same things?" Bruce asks me.
"I have no idea. We just had the same symptoms." I say as I walk over to him. "Why?"
"Well.. Your blood is clean." He repeats from earlier. "But Ally.." He shakes his head. "She has four different strains of arsenic and methamphetamines in just a single drop of her blood."
Tony's eyes widen. "That could kill her!" He panics. "How do we neutralize it?"
The two of them begin speaking science and I watch as Tony frantically mixes things together.
"What exactly is in her blood?" I ask.
"It's part poison, part hallucinogen, part narcotic." Bruce explains.
I feel my heart stop in my chest and turn back to the room that Ally is in. "That would explain the sudden nightmare." I think out loud.
I hear a small shattering sound come from the room she's in and run in to find her sitting up with wide eyes. She's breathing heavily and sweating profusely.
"It's okay." I say as I sit beside her. "You're okay." I wrap my arms around her.
She buries her head in my chest and wraps her arms around me. I hear Tony shouting about some science stuff and sigh. He better figure out the cure for whatever she has in her body before it's too late.
