Shot of Love
Alexandra's POV
I wake up the next morning to a pounding headache and squint my eyes to see James laying beside me. I furrow my eyebrows and lay back down. What the hell happened last night?
There's a loud knock on the door and I jump up.
"Buck, you in there?" I hear Steve's voice and let out a soft sigh in relief.
James is dead asleep so I carefully crawl over him to answer the door. I crack it open just a bit until I'm sure that it's only Steve there.
"You're back!" He smiles. I pull him into the room and lock the door behind him. "What happened to your face?" He asks, caressing my face in his hands.
"I don't know." I admit. "How much did I drink last night?"
"About half a bottle of vodka and some rum." He says. "Why?"
I groan. "Never let me drink rum again. It's my kryptonite."
"Noted." He chuckles. "So how much do you remember?"
"I remember taking you to see Hayley and then coming back and.. uh.." She gestures between the two of us. "And I remember jumping out of your window but after that everything is fuzzy." She sighs. "How's your side by the way?"
"As if I was never stabbed." He smiles.
I hear movement on the bed and turn to see James sitting up. "Steve?" He asks. "Why are you in my room?"
"I came to ask what happened last night." He says. "Ally doesn't seem to remember much after sneaking out of the compound."
James makes eye contact with me and pulls the blankets down to sit on the edge of the bed. I realize that he's only in his boxers and feel myself blush.
"I cut her off at her apartment, followed her to the woods where her bike and belongings exploded, we argued and then made up, and I brought her here." He says to Steve.
"My Harley blew up?!" My eyes widen. "And JAKS?!" James sighs and nods.
"You blamed me for it since I was following you." He presses his lips into a thin line. "You also blamed me for breaking your heart."
My face turns red and I look away. "I never said that."
"You said it to me too." Steve speaks up and I narrow my eyes at him. He throws his hands up in surrender and I roll my eyes.
"You also mentioned wanting a normal life." James adds, now standing in front of me.
I feel Steve shift awkwardly beside me and want nothing more than to sink through the floor.
"Then I accused you of sleeping with Steve.. Which led to you punching me in the nose." He pauses.
"I remember that part." I laugh.
"And then I apologized for all the times I've hurt you." He grabs my hand.
"And we kissed?" I ask, not knowing if that part was a dream or real.
"Yeah, we kissed." He smiles softly.
"So you two are finally together then?" Steve asks, ruining the moment.
I glance at James to find him staring back at me.
"Yeah." I say.
"Yeah?" James asks, I nod. "Like.. together together? Not like your usual 'no strings' crap?"
"Together together." I smile softly, holding his hand.
A smile grows on his face and he wraps his arms around me.
"That's real great, I'm happy for you guys." Steve says, forcing a smile.
"You're still my best friend Stevie." I place a hand on his cheek. "Whenever you need a reason to be on bed rest you know who to call." I wink, making him chuckle.
"Speaking of bed rest, why are you up?" James asks him.
"Oh! Ally brought me to some friend of hers who uses like magic technology or something." He explains. "All I know is that she fixed me up."
There's a knock on the door and I slide under James's bed before he opens the door.
"Steve, why are you out of bed?" Bruce asks.
"I feel fine, Bruce." Steve says. "I can move around perfectly, no pain, nothing."
"It's only been a day." Bruce says. "Come down to the lab, I want to see if you're actually healed or just lying to me."
Steve groans and is pulled out of the room. The door closes and I slide out from underneath the bed. I sit on the bed facing James, who has an unamused look on his face.
"So you chose to makeout with Steve?" He asks.
I shrug. "It was an impulsive thing. I was hurting and leaving for.. well.. ever. I didn't think it was a big deal since you went out and were probably hitting on girls all night anyway."
"Is that what you think I do?" He furrows his eyebrows.
"I mean I don't doubt it. Have you seen yourself? What girl wouldn't be all over you at a bar?" I cross my arms.
A smirk finds its way to his face. "Is someone jealous?"
"Jealous? Look who's talking." I stifle a laugh. "I can't even be in the same room as Steve without you getting suspicious."
He playfully rolls his eyes and pulls me on top of him, making me giggle.
Tony's POV
"Sir, Dr. Banner requests your presence in the lab." Friday says as I'm looking over blueprints for a new building.
I sigh and pause my work to head down to the lab. Once I walk in, I see Steve laying on a table and Bruce standing over him.
"You called?" I ask.
"Look." Bruce gestures to where Steve's huge cut was a few hours ago and my eyes widen. "It's gone."
"Yeah, I see that." I walk over to the X-ray pictures and take my glasses off. "Some sort of synthetic material helped the body heal quicker." I speak to myself.
"It wasn't me, all I did was give him stitches." Bruce says.
"It's nanotech." Steve speaks from the table. "Since I'm clearly fine, can I get back to my life now?" He sits up.
"What did you just say?" I turn to face him.
"I'm fine?" He raises an eyebrow.
"No." I roll my eyes. "Nanotech, why does that sound familiar." I pace around the room.
Bruce tells Steve that he can go as I continue to rack my brain. I stop in my tracks as I find the memory and start to feel nauseous.
"She used it." I speak barely above a whisper as Bruce furrows his eyebrows. "Alex. She used nanotech. That's how she saved me in Venice!"
"But.. How could that be?" Bruce asks. "Who else knows about this stuff?"
"If I didn't know about it then probably only her." I tap my chin. "Maybe a friend? No, she didn't have friends." I pause for a moment. "You don't think..?"
"It's not impossible." Bruce speaks. "We didn't have much to go on when identifying the body."
"Friday, get Rogers back in here right now."
