A Poke With a Sharp Stick
I awoke with trepidation
From the comfort of my bed
Today I had to see a man
Who'd stick needles in my head
I blew a vessel in my eye
That quickly needed mending
What I didn't know 'till they began
The treatment was unending
Two needles in the eye
One freezing, one a mystery
Don't rub it I was told
In a manner rather carefree
Never mind the bleeding
And stay out of the sun
"Next!" he cried from his office door
And bingo, I was done
I blundered from the clinic
Down the stairs out to the street
One hand outstretched to guide my way
On unstable, clumsy feet
Into my car (yes, I drove)
And blindly into traffic
I steered the car most carefully home
A feat that was no picnic
Now safely back inside my home
I've time to contemplate
The very scary prospect
Of my next appointment date
