Not Today, Anyways

LORALAI'S POV:

I ducked as She swung at me, Her dagger flying directly over my head. I then shoved Her roughly away from me.

I wasn't dying today.

She stumbled, and most likely wouldn't have fallen... if She wasn't in high heels.

Now that She was down, I sprinted. I had to get to The Blind Girl. Right now. She was in danger. So I had to save her. Like a Prince Charming, right? Or would that be a Princess Charming?

Whatever. It didn't matter right now, and it probably would never matter.

I kept running, practically throwing myself through the trees.

I skidded in the grass when I came across my safety river. Never in my life had I ever regretted my choice to put it there. Until now.

I growled with frustration before diving into the water and swimming across. It would've been much faster to run than to swim, no matter how fast a swimmer I was!

I came out on the other side of the river. I then threw open the door to my house.

"Girl!" I didn't even care that I didn't know her name.

I froze when I saw The Blind Girl standing in front of me. She looked at me, having found me through me screaming her name.

But that wasn't all I saw.

Just in front of The Blind Girl stood a guy around my age--20--with VERY familiar black hair and pale green eyes.

Calik.

That woman's assistant person.

And he must be here to try and take The Blind Girl to Her!

Calik stood there, staring me directly in the eyes. His face was just so... empty. A true psychopath.

At least She showed some emotion, there was malice and hatred in Her eyes.

But Calik was just... cold.

I leaped at Calik to attack him and protect The Blind Girl, but Calik simply stepped out of my way, throwing me to the floor.

I jumped back to my feet, growling, and prepared to jump again.

The Blind Girl suddenly threw herself in front of Calik, in my way.

"What are you doing?! He'll kill you!" I snapped at her, prepared to push her out of the way. It would be better

"I don't think he will," The Blind Girl said, the demanded to Calik, "Tell her what you told me."

Calik shook his head, "Isla, I can tell she's not going to believe me no matter what I say. It would be best for me to leave."

Isla. Isla, Isla, Isla. That was The Blind Girl's name. I had heard that before. Where?

"What?! No! Tell Loralai!" Isla whirled around to face Calik.

Calik shook his head again. "No. I should go. I need to get back to Miss now anyways."

"See?!" I pointed out, "He's going right back to Her!"

"He's faking it! He told me!" Isla seemed to be in hysterics.

"Isla, stop. I'm going now, and that's it. I've spent too long here. I'll try to lead Miss away, but there's only so much I can do."

Lead Miss away? Why did Calik insist on lying so much to Isla? And why did she believe his lies?

I couldn't understand.

Not today, anyways.
