seventeen || 'what the heck is going on' manip cover
Hello, again!
Another on time update? *gasps*
✨ thank you for 2k+ reads, ya'll ✨
Btw, I named the tutorial 'what the heck is going on' because well, there are a lot stuff to put in this cover and it consists of 30 steps and involves a lot of blending mode... so yeah, lets begin.
----- - --- (❁´◡'❁) --- - -----
1. Add a pattern with a color pallete
2. Change the color with filter > hue/saturation/lightness to your desired color scheme for this cover, mine's purple
3. Add an overlay over the pattern
4. Change the blending mode
*note : every image blends differently with each other so just play around with the available blending mode choices until it just 'clicks' with each other, you don't have to exactly follow mine unless I say so specifically
5. Add your PNG
6. [optional] Change the the brightness of the picture with filter > brightness/contrast until it suits the cover
7. Behind the PNG, add a picture of another image with vibrant colors
8. Change the blending mode
9. On the top left and bottom right, draw a triangle with your main color
10. ~ Change the blending mode again ~
*i'm gonna repeat this phrase throughout the tutorial so be prepared
11. With black, draw two vertical lines behind the person with the ruler tool
12. Then, divide those line into three sections
13. On the long line, draw a bunch of small squares
14. Repeat on the other side, and now it's your handmade film template!
15. Select one of the boxes, zoom in to the top left of the screenshot to see it lmao (I explained how to select in part one)
16. Add your first pic (pay attention to the top left over there), because it was selected, it's automatically cropped to fit the box
17. Repeat on the other two boxes
18. Change the color so it coordinates with each other
19. Put a picture of crumpled paper above the PNG
20. Erase it in a messy way until it resembles ripped paper on the top right and bottom left
21. Make it a darker color through filter > hue/saturation/lightness
22. ~~ Change the blending mode ~~
23. Add your title in this layout :
- when you type your text, there's 'background' section at the bottom. Tap on the color, scroll to make the opacity full, and set the length to however you want it to be
- cover the person's eyes and mouth
24. Duplicate the layer of the title, then enlarge them so much, after that put them on the top right and bottom left of the cover
25. Change the blending mode to either 'invert' or 'difference'
26. Add a drop shadow through filter > drop shadow (remember to put it on a layer underneath the text)
27. Change the screen tone of the shadow (not the blending mode lmao)
28. Lower the opacity so it's noticeable
29. Fill the layer under the person with solid white
30. Lower the opacity and you're done! (I did some doodling, added the author's name, adjusted some of the colors and blending modes after that)
----- - --- (❁´◡'❁) --- - -----
Tada! It is a recreation of an old cover.
*btw I changed the layer of the text to Hard Light and it has this translucent effect which I think looks cool
I didn't really explain the steps in detail this time since I want to give you guys more creative liberty and do whatever you want with it. Same reason why I never show you guys the doodling and other adjustments offscreen, to let you guys experiment!
Also, the blank white I did in the last two steps was to seperate the character and the background. Bc when you add too many stuff it becomes confusing and overwhelming, so by doing this you're like toning down the cover.
I hope this tutorial has helped you! If there is anything you're confused, comment and I'll answer it as soon as I can ♡♡♡.
Goodbye, love you <3
