23. Busted

Taehyung woke the next morning to the door downstairs opening. It was a normal sound that he was used to waking up to; always in the habit of getting up a minute or two before Jimin and Hobi showed up at his bedroom door to drag him out of bed. As Taehyung rubbed the sleep from his eyes, he remembered again his new reality and immediately swung himself out of bed. He padded over to the guest bedroom doorway in his bare feet, hearing Jimin and Hobi chatting downstairs. Taehyung quickly tip-toed out of the room he was in to make his way towards the landing. Once there, he leaned his back against the wall before peeking around the corner so he could look down from the landing to see the two of them idling in the front doorway in the middle of some sort of heated argument. At a glance, Taehyung saw that Hobi had his hand on Jimin's wrist. He was probably giving Jimin a lecture to not repeat the other day. Taehyung took advantage of their momentary distraction from the stairwell to steal across the landing to his bedroom where he figured Jungkook was fast asleep.

Opening the door, he saw that his bed was made and was completely untouched. He knew without stepping in the room where Jungkook probably was. As Taehyung left his bedroom, he heard the front door close. He cursed inwardly as he moved to peek down from the landing again to see that they both were in the middle of a heated debate still, but they were making their way towards the stairwell at the same time. Taehyung decided to chance running. Jimin stopped mid-sentence as he looked up, having seen someone race across the upstairs landing out of the corner of his eye.

"Did you see that?" Jimin asked Hobi. "I think Taehyung is already on the defensive today."

"I told you you were too rough the other day. Hopefully his day away from you yesterday helped him to get back in the right headspace."

"I said I was sorry," said Jimin. "Geezum. How many more times are you gonna bring up that incident? I don't handle stress well. You know I've never handled it well. It doesn't help that his parents are coming to town in a few days because they think the label - and us indirectly - are not doing what is right by their son and his namesake."

Jimin moved up the stairs with Hobi following after him. Taehyung had managed to make it back down the hall to the other guest room. When he creaked open the partially closed door, he saw Jungkook sleeping on the floor, leaning up against the bed where Laylin was still asleep; the two of them holding hands.

"What are you doing here?"

Taehyung heard the question Jimin asked him, reacting to it by reaching out and shutting the door. Taehyung stood in front of the guest bedroom door; one hand behind him and on the doorknob as he forced a quick smile onto his face.

"I stayed the night with Taehyung," he said.

"I see...so where is he?" asked Jimin; his face still looking puzzled as Hobi stood behind him.

"He's getting ready."

"You're acting weird," said Jimin. "Why are you standing in front of the door?"

Taehyung shrugged his shoulders as Jimin crossed his arms.

"He's in there, isn't he? Please move out of the way."

"I appreciate the 'please' this time, but I'm going to have to politely decline."

"Please."

"Again, no."

Jungkook stirred in his spot on the floor once he heard the bedroom door shut. He opened his eyes, wincing a bit at the uncomfortable position he had fallen to sleep in. He noticed though that he was still holding Laylin's hand. He smiled softly, looking over at her as she slept soundly. Jungkook watched her peacefully sleeping for a moment before reaching out his free hand to shut off the playlist and mood light. As he did, he could hear muted voices in the hallway.

Reluctantly, he put Laylin's hand gently down on the bed as he got up from his position and moved to stand near the closed door. He could clearly make out Taehyung and Jimin. It sounded like the exchange was getting quite heated.

"I said no!" came Taehyung's voice; Jungkook jumping back from the door as a thud could be heard against it. As Jungkook stood there, he heard the sounds of a struggle in the hall.

"Let me go!" cried Jimin.

"You're so stupid!"

Jungkook moved to open the door, watching as the two tumbled into the room in a tangle of arms and legs. He looked down at the two of them at his feet; Taehyung having an arm about Jimin's chest to keep him pinned down.

"What are you two doing?" asked Jungkook as he looked down at the two of them wrestling; seeing Hobi move to stand in the doorway out of the corner of his eye.

Before either of them could reply, Jimin shifted in Taehyung's grasp and noticed Laylin on the bed as she woke up from all the commotion. Her eyes widened as she looked over at the four men in her room.

"Taehyung, who is she?" Jimin asked as he looked at Jungkook. "Are you dating?"

Jungkook's cheeks flushed as he ignored the question, moving to untangle Taehyung's hold of Jimin. Hobi looked over at Laylin, arching his brow.

"Who are you?"

"I'm Laylin," she said in reply. "I'm Jungkook's best friend and roommate."

She paused, unsure if Taehyung's friends knew the truth as she sat awkwardly in the bed; her hands in her lap.

Jungkook finished getting Jimin free, watching as the man bounded to his feet. Jungkook reached out a hand towards Taehyung to help him to his feet, standing beside him as Jimin and Hobi looked the three of them over oddly.

"Something is going on here," said Jimin.

"I agree," said Hobi. "Someone needs to spill the beans."

Taehyung looked over at Jungkook as Jungkook looked back at him in return. Without saying anything, there was a mutual understanding between them that they needed to tell Jimin and Hobi the truth.

"You both won't believe it," said Taehyung as he turned back to look at Jimin and Hobi.

"Oh really?" asked Jimin skeptically. "Why not?"

"Remember that accident?" asked Jungkook as Jimin and Hobi both nodded. "The reason I'm acting off is because something bigger than the car accident happened to me. I'm not who you think I am."

"You aren't making any sense," said Hobi.

"I'm Taehyung," said Taehyung as he brought a hand up to his chest, "And the one you think is me is actually Jungkook. The accident caused us to switch bodies somehow."

"You're right. I don't believe you," said Jimin as Hobi remained silent watching Taehyung and Jungkook.

"It's because you're a knucklehead," said Taehyung.

"I'm not a knucklehead! You are!"

Hobi still remained silent as he looked over at them and then at Laylin who was still sitting silent on the bed.

"You believe them, don't you?" asked Hobi as he looked at Laylin.

Laylin looked over at Hobi, nodding her head. Hobi then moved to walk over to Taehyung, putting a hand on his shoulder so that he looked him in the eyes.

"You're being honest. This isn't a joke?"

"I'm being as honest as I was that time I told you how awful your outfit was before the awards ceremony last year," said Taehyung with a slight grin to his lips. "Please believe me Hobi. It's why things have been off."

Hobi grinned softly then as Taehyung was swept into a hug. Taehyung chuckled as he hugged Hobi back.

"I thought there was something odd about you the other day when we talked, but I couldn't figure out why I felt that way," said Hobi as he drew back from the hug. "Now I know."

"You actually believe him?" asked Jimin.

"Why do you think I've had trouble singing?" asked Jungkook, catching Jimin's attention. "I'm not used to being someone else. I don't know the routine. I don't know what pitch you'll find perfect."

"But switching bodies...it sounds nuts."

"It does sound nuts, but it's true," said Taehyung as he looked at Jimin. "Jimin, you've known me for what feels like forever. You have to believe me. Even though you can be high strung at times, I have always appreciated your friendship."

Jimin stayed silent for a moment as he looked from Jungkook to Taehyung.

"You're trying to play the sappy card to make me buy this," said Jimin.

"Would you rather me get out my Nerf gun and we settle it like men?" teased Taehyung, watching as Jimin chuckled.

"No...of course not. I just...what do we do now?" asked Jimin. "Say I do believe you, how do we fix this?"

"That is what we don't know and that we have to try to figure out still," said Taehyung, "But at least now we can do it together."
