Chapter 19: Saved 8-13-16

Pippin opened his eyes as he awoke, but quickly closed them. He felt like his head had exploded and he felt blood dripping down his face. He could also feel himself laying on something, his face laying on fur or hair it felt like. And he was moving also, again. This time even faster than when he was flying through the air in Fangorn. Pippin could hear something familiar; the sound of galloping hooves on the hard rock ground. Was he on a horse? He thought. But he realized there was something strange about the way he was thinking and his head was unbearably painful, so he fell back asleep.

-----

The next time he woke up, he wasn't moving this time. Pippin felt like he was laying in something comfortable and squishy. His first thought was that he was dead, but when he opened his eyes he realized he was in a room. It was a pitch black room and he was laying on a soft bed with a thin white sheet over him. He sat up and looked around the strange room. Have I been captured? Or saved? Or dead? Pippin thought. Any of them could have been real.

He felt something tightly wrapped on his hand and looked down at it. There was a white bandage wrapped around it making his hand look chubby. He remembered the orc cutting open his palm with his sword in Fangorn and guessed that's why there was a bandage around it. It felt nub and still hurt a lot. He could hardly move it.

It was hard to see, but he could see furniture all around the room, tables, dressers, and some wall decorations too. There was only one door to exit and enter from and was large and had a dark oak color and a smooth texture. Everything in the room looked pretty rustic. There was even a giant chandelier on the ceiling in the middle of the room. Then Pippin's eyes focused in on two medium sized banners that hung across from his bed on the other side of the room. They were green and yellow with a white horse stitched on them.

A/N: Here is a visual of what he sees. Now do you know where he is?

Pippin took the sheets off of him and stepped out of bed before thinking about how bad his head still hurt. He took a few clumsy steps, but gained control soon after. He walked over to the banners to examine them better. As soon as he got close enough to them, he discovered he was too short to feel them or see them properly.

Some noise took his attention off of the banners and to the door of the room. It sounded like footsteps and two sets of them. Pippin put his ear to the door and he heard the footsteps coming his way.

He ran back to the bed and jumped onto it. He scrambled under the sheets completely; his face too. Then he heard the door creak open and the people come in. Pippin slowed his breathing and tried to stay real still and silent under the sheet. He was trying to act asleep so he could possibly figure out who these people were and where he was.

"So this is the Hobbit?" the first voice said. It was a male and he had some sort of accent.

The other person grunted and said,

"Yes, I found him in Fangorn," that voice was male and sounded old, crackly, deep, and wait...

This voice sounded familiar to Pippin. But no, it couldn't be, Pippin thought. Nope, that person is gone.

Suddenly somebody pulled the sheet off of Pippin's head and he closed his eyes just in time. Acting asleep wasn't as easy as it appeared. Somebody felt his forehead and Pippin tried not to jolt or open his eyes at the cold hand touching his hot forehead. The man lifted his hand from his forehead a moment later. The man with the accent started talking again,

"I'm going to go check on some things. Tell me if you need anything,"

The other man said nothing, but Pippin could tell only one person left the room. The door creaked open and then it closed quietly. Pippin could still feel the presence of a body next to him, so he kept his eyes closed and his breathing slow. He then heard the person drag over a chair and sit down in it next to the bed.

"I know you're awake,"

The suddenness of the man's voice scared Pippin and he jumped on accident. But he did know that voice! He turned around and opened his eyes.

"Gandalf!" Pippin excitedly said as he looked at the wizard.

"Shhh... not so loud," Gandalf said. He sounded grumpy and annoyed. Instead of Gandalf wearing all grey, he was all white. Pippin sat against the pillows and asked,

"How did you get here? Why are you white?" then his indicial thought came back into his head, "Am I dead? Are we both dead? Where are we?"

"Enough questions Peregrin Took! Quiet now, we aren't dead, but we've got some problems on our hands," Gandalf responded rather angrily.

"Oh ya! Are the others still in Isengard?"

"I suppose so, yes. I have some questions for you, but I want you to rest now. How is your head?"

"It hurts a lot. I know this sounds strange, but I feel think it exploded and somehow it was put back together. It's a strange feeling really,"

"Yes, well you look fine,"

"What happened?" Pippin asked still confused.

"I found you and the orcs in Fangorn. I tried using my magic to blast only the orcs out of the way, but Saruman repealed my magic and it made my light go out and it blasted you too. I then found you lying on the ground far away under a tree," Gandalf explained as Pippin listened intently, "Your head was a bloody mess and you were as limp as a noodle. I thought you were gone. That's what Saruman wanted. But I felt your heart still thumping away so I brought you here. I bandaged your head up and used some magic to heal it, but it's still unsettled. You need to rest now,"

Pippin let all the new information sink in and then finally said,

"Thank you, Gandalf... but, where is here?"

"We are in Rohan. I had some business with the king and his people. Saruman had sent a spy to poison the mind of Theoden their king. It was also the closest area to Fangorn that I could get you to fast,"

"But what about the others?" Pippin asked. He wasn't sure how far Isengard was from Rohan, but it had to be pretty close like Gandalf had said.

"Now, now lad. You need to get some rest while I figure out a plan. I have somebody who will keep you company,"

"I'm fine really," Pippin argued, but then his stomach growled loudly, "I'm only a little hungry," he admitted with a smirk.

Gandalf stood up and walked towards the door. Pippin got up to follow, but got up too fast and fell on the wooden floor. His hands hit the ground first and he gave a small yelp at the pain that went through his cut hand. Gandalf turned abruptly and almost shouted,

"Stay in bed for heaven sakes! I'll be right back,"

Pippin blinked and then stood up slowly. His head started spinning so he obeyed and crawled to the bed and then climbed back onto it. Gandalf turned back around, went out the door, slammed it, and Pippin was yet again alone in the dark room. He felt for his hair, but only felt a bandage wrapped around it like Gandalf had said.

He sat in bed impatiently and watched the door. About ten minutes went by and still no Gandalf. He was bored and decided to get out of bed again. This time he didn't fall and he went for the door Gandalf had gone through. Pippin opened it and peeked out through the small crack. He saw a hallway with some doors on either side of it.

Smelling something delicious, he followed his nose to a door at the end of the hallway. He opened the door and snuck inside quietly. The smell of bacon and eggs filled the air. Then he spotted it. A fresh plate of breakfast sitting on a high counter. There was nobody in the room, so he made his way to the food. Pippin climbed on top of a stool and as he reached for the plate of food, the door swung open.

Three soldiers came in and all eyes went to Pippin. Uh oh... thought Pippin. I've been caught. He jumped off the stool and backed up into a corner, which wasn't the best idea. He looked around for a door, but there was only one. The one he and the soldiers had come through.

"How did you get in here? Who are you?" asked one of the Rohan soldiers.

"I- I came with Gandalf," Pippin stammered, "I was on- only hungry and..."

Before he could finish one of the soldiers lifted him off the ground with much force that made him gasp.

"We will have to see what the king has to say about this, thief,"

The soldier put Pippin down and firmly pinned his hands behind his back. He pushed him forward and Pippin said,

"I'm not a thief. I came with Gandalf... the wizard,"

The soldiers didn't speak after that and Pippin knew they were going straight to the king. Gandalf would not be pleased.
