Chapter 25: United 1-16-17
Legolas feel down and down and landed on his feet were him and the other companions had been about ten minutes ago. He saw the cages still and saw the boulder that had crashed Gollum. He held out the Light of Earendil and let it shine through the darkness.
"Aragorn!" Legolas called, but not too loud.
He didn't want to start another avalanche from his voice. Legolas looked all around and couldn't see Aragorn anywhere. Legolas imagined himself falling, which was hard because he always landed on his feet.
Then it hit him, literally. A rock fell from above and smashed him in the head. It was a small one though. He watched the rock fall to the ground and then he saw Aragorn. He was standing on top of him! There were rocks piled over the man and Legolas could only glimpse his legs peaking out barley. That meant he had fallen on his back.
Legolas stepped back and then crouched down to where Aragorn was buried under the pile of rocks. He set the Light of Earendil on the ground beside him and started digging where he though Aragorn's head would be. There was about half a foot of rocks piled on top of Aragorn until Legolas finally found him underneath.
He was unconscious and his eyes were closed. Legolas pulled him up by his shoulders and then held the man in his arms for a moment trying to figure out what to do. He thought Aragorn would wake up, but that never happened.
First, Legolas put the Light back into his pocket and then wrapped Aragorn around his shoulders. Legolas had to do something and this was the only way he could think of to get out alive with both of them. Legolas took hold of Aragorn's right arm and told himself he wouldn't let go.
Then Legolas started climbing. It was quite hard with Aragorn on his shoulders, but Legolas wouldn't give up. At least the climb up would already have a set path that Boromir and Sam had already dug. Up and up they went.
-----
"We made it!" Sam said as he peaked his head out from some rocks Boromir had pushed away for him.
"What do you see?" Boromir asked holding Sam up.
Sam's head was the only thing above Barad Dur's pile of rock and stone. He looked around Mordor.
"Mount Doom has erupted far, far away! The ground is nothing but holes everywhere, and Barad Dur is gone!" Sam exclaimed.
"That's because it fell on us," Boromir murmured.
Sam climbed out of the small hole he was peaking out of and then dug the rocks away for Boromir to fit through. Boromir came up a moment later and looked around Mordor as Sam had done. Sam was right, Mordor looked very different now. It looked really plain and destroyed.
Boromir turned around as he heard Sam gasp.
"That's what Legolas was talking about! That's what fell!" Sam said alarmed at what he was looking at.
There was an enormous Fell Beast that was laying dead right behind Boromir and Sam. It had large, bloody scratch marks going down its broad chest that were made by something else huge. That's when Sam looked to the sky and smiled.
"The Eagles!" he proclaimed.
Boromir looked up and saw five Eagles circling above.
"The others must be nearby," Boromir predicted.
"Over there!" Same shouted and pointed.
He pointed to the mountain top were he saw some people jumping around. That had to be Frodo, Merry, and Pippin. Just then an Eagle from above swooped down towards Boromir and Sam. The loud whoosh of wind made them both jump.
Sam reached up his arms wanting to get taken by the Eagle. Boromir shrunk down and curled himself into a ball not wanting to get taken. The Eagle saw Sam's flailing arms and took him in its talons.
Boromir peaked through his fingers covering his face and saw Sam get taken away. He knew he would be next if the one of the Eagle's saw him. He decided just to stand up and let them take him.
Eventually another Eagle swooped down and grabbed Boromir gently and then took to the sky. The Eagle must have sensed his fear because it went extra slow and held him gently.
As he was being taken away he looked down to where he and Sam had just come out of the ground until he was so high in the sky that he couldn't see it anymore. He hoped Legolas would find Aragorn and come soon. Everybody would be waiting and probably thinking it was his fault they were still trapped underground.
The Eagle holding Sam gently let him down and as he had predicted, Frodo, Merry, and Pippin all jumped on him giving him a huge Hobbit group hug. Sam was pushed to the ground as the Hobbits, mainly Frodo, hugged him and laughed. Gandalf watched them with a chuckle.
Boromir was next to be dropped to the ground and the Eagle was lowering him down slowly. Boromir saw the Hobbits and was thrilled to see them all so happy and alive. Then his eyes looked to Gandalf and then the other person standing next to him. He couldn't believe his eyes. It was Faramir!
As soon as Boromir's feet touched the ground, he raced for Faramir. Faramir turned to him and his face immediately lit up like a firework. They both held out their arms and embraced in a huge hug.
"I didn't know you were here!" Boromir said into Faramir's ear.
"I came back for you," Faramir whispered into his as they continued their hug.
Boromir pulled himself back and smiled at his younger brother.
"I'm glad you're okay," Boromir said.
"Me too,"
Then Boromir was pulled from behind and as he looked down, Merry and Pippin where both hugging each of his legs. He knelt down and gave them each a hug, not as big as the one he had delivered to Faramir, but it was still a hug. Before Merry, Pippin, or Boromir could exchange words, Gandalf pulled Boromir up and looked into his eyes.
"Where are Aragorn and Legolas?" Gandalf said trying to stay calm, but his anger took hold even more.
"They are coming. It's a long story, but Aragorn fell and Legolas was..." Boromir got interrupted at the word "fell".
"Fell? What do you mean?" Gandalf asked getting even more irritated.
Boromir explained everything and Sam helped back him up since Gandalf was having a hard time believing Boromir. After that, everybody had to wait.
The Eagles soured above where Barad Dur had collapsed and the others stayed on top of the mountain top. They told themselves they would wait and they did. And waited and waited.
A/N: Its coming to an end!
