Chapter 8: Chase 10-7-16

Aragorn backed up and put his hands up surrendering to the bowman.

"Don't move or I will shot," the man holding the bow said. He made a signal to the guards at the gate.

The two guards that had just told Aragorn to go away came up from behind him and each took him by each arm. Aragorn winced at his left shoulder being twisted by the guard. The man with the bow brought it down and pulled back Aragorn's hood.

"Just as I thought," the man said, "you're Aragorn,"

"Who are you?" Aragorn asked bravely.

The man pulled Aragorn closer to him by his shirt and said close to his face,

"You answer my questions, got it?"

Aragorn nodded. The more he looked at the man, the more he looked familiar. He looked like Boromir, but slightly different somehow.

"Move," the man said.

The guards moved making Aragorn follow the man with the bow at his side.

"Where are you taking me?" Aragorn couldn't help but ask.

"The dungeon,"

"What? Why?" Aragorn asked getting panicked about Denathor.

You are under arrest. Your fate will be decided by my father, the Steward,"

"Father?" Aragorn murmured under his breath, "Your Faramir," he said louder.

The man stopped and turned around abruptly. He quickly took his arrow to his bow again and aimed at Aragorn's face as he said,

"How do you know that?"

"Please, bring me Boromir. Your brother," Aragorn pleaded. If Denathor came, he would surely be dead. And it wouldn't be a kind death.

Faramir did not reply and they kept walking. Soon they came to a door. Faramir unlocked the bared door and the guards pushed Aragorn inside. It was completely black inside the small room that Aragorn could see nothing in. It was worse too since it was night and the clouds were covering the moon. The door slammed behind him and Faramir continued,

"I will be back," then he turned to the guards and said, "Stay here and don't let him escape,"

"Yes Captain," the guards bowed and stood on either sides of the bared door.

Faramir walked away and it was silent again. Aragorn had to get out of there quick.

What have I done? Aragorn was angry at himself. I got caught is what I have done.

He thought and thought and the only thing that could possibly get him out was something sharp. Sharp, sharp, sharp. He had Anduril! He unsheathed the sword as quietly as possible, which took a while since he didn't want the guards to hear him and turn around to see what he was up to.

He put the tip of the sword to the lock on the door and worked on picking the lock very slowly and silently. This also took a very long time and he was starting to get worried Faramir would be back any moment with unwanted company. Finally, he knew with one more turn of the sword, the door would be open.

Aragorn's intension was not to hurt the guards so his best option was to run. So he took a quiet deep breath and turned his sword. The keyhole made a clicking noise and Aragorn flung open the cell door and ran into the night.

The guards started yelling and Aragorn could hear their footsteps behind him. Their armor clinked and clanked on the cobblestone path loudly echoing through the quiet night. He kept running and running until he saw the entrance and the exit gate. But what he also saw was Faramir. And he wasn't alone. He was running beside Boromir and Denathor. They were all running for Aragorn in front of him and the guards from the back. He was trapped.

"Seize him!" Denathor shouted.

The guards drew their swords and Faramir loaded his bow. He sent the arrow flying towards Aragorn. He stopped and deflected the arrow with his sword. Aragorn looked around frantically for a way to escape. His eyes stopped on the outer wall of Minas Tirith. There were vines crawling up the wall.

Aragorn deflected another arrow sent by Faramir and then ran for the vine wall; his way out. It was a long way to climb, but he had no other choice. The guards stopped at the bottom of the vine wall unsure of what to do next. Denathor ordered Faramir to keep shooting so he did.

"Father, stop!" Boromir pulled on his layered coat firmly.

Faramir shot another arrow and it landed just an inch above Aragorn's head. It was hard for Aragorn to climb with his injuries and his sword in one hand. Boromir started climbing up the vine wall as well going after Aragorn.

Faramir shot again and the arrow hit Aragorn's fingers. Blood dripped from his hand, but he continued to climb up. Denathor grabbed Boromir's foot and yelled,

"Get down here you fool! Faramir, go up there and catch that man!"

Faramir stopped shooting and started climbing after Aragorn.

"Wait Faramir, stop!" Boromir insisted, "Let Aragorn go! The first time I met him, I had the same feelings as you, father. I am the one that has traveled over half of Middle Earth with him and he is not the man I thought he was before. He has a loyal, noble, and has brave sole. Please, lay your weapon down, brother,"

Boromir had given Aragorn some time to climb safely. Aragorn reached the top of the wall and was about thirty feet high. He sheathed Anduril and then looked down the other side of the mighty wall.

There were little vines going down, but he climbed down them as far as he could. Once he reached the end of the vines, there was still about a ten foot drop onto the ground below. He let go of the vines and landed hard on his feet on the ground. The impact of the drop made his knees buckle and he fell to his knees. He grasped his injured stomach, which seemed to have not liked the drop too much.

On the other side of the Minas Tirith wall, Boromir kicked his foot free from Denathor's grasp and started climbing the vines up the wall. He tried going as fast as possible and tried to block out the horrible shouting of his protesting father below.

Faramir had no clue what was going on so he thought he would listen to his brother which he favored over his own father. He dropped to the ground again next to Denathor. Half of Boromir felt bad for his brother since everybody was yelling different orders at him.

Boromir soon reached the top of the wall and looked out at the field of Pelennor tying to spot Aragorn in the darkness of night. He looked down and there he saw him standing up from the ground. Aragorn started running away.

"Aragorn! Wait!" Boromir shouted after him.

But Aragorn kept running and he was going the direction of Mordor. Boromir started heading down the vines where Aragorn had just been a couple minutes ago. Boromir jumped the extra ten feet and landed straight on his butt. He quickly got up and ran after Aragorn.
