First, crop your picture into a square. Then tap "Tool" then "Adjust".

I like to start with highlights and end on brightness.

I usually turn down the highlights, turn up the saturation, and turn down the contrast.

Sometimes I put a simple overlay over the icon. To do that, add the picture below and press "Screen".
