Aurora

I was always an extrovert. I spoke whatever came to my mind and rarely lied. But after my break up, I had become an introvert as many people pointed out. I became a quiet person and immensely lacked confidence. I had loved Dallas for years. When I found out he was interested in me too. I confessed my feelings to him.

Throughout our relationship he had cheated on me multiple times. Somehow for a while I thought I deserved it all. I wasn't that good of a girlfriend. With our break up, he broke me too. I felt like I didn't deserve to be loved. My friends made me realise that I deserved to be loved. But, sometimes I still find myself questioning, do I?

I know I will never be able to let go of the parts Dallas has left in me. The insecurities. When Adam stood me up, those insecurities came back in full force. I wasn't worth him taking me out on a date. And maybe he finally understood that. But, I wish he understood it a bit later.

"Or maybe you are just being over dramatic." Paxton said from the phone.

"Shut up."

"He probably has a reason to do so, Aurora."

"Why did he not contact me the whole day then? He could have at least told me something. We go to the same school you know." I said angrily.

"You got a point there."

"I always have a point in everything I say."

"Whatever."

"Why did you call me?" I asked.

"I am coming back this weekend." He replied.

"Didn't you just visit?"

"Yes...but I guess I will be here for a while this time."

"Ok." Something is fishy.

"How is she?" He asked after a while.

" Good but you need to forget about her because she has someone she likes."

"So?"

"You are unbelievable."

"The one I went on a blind date with. He is the one." I said in a hushed tone.

"Yes Geena told me. What was his name again? Bane?" He said the wrong name purposely.

"Shane."

"Yes, him. Do you think he can stand up against me?"

"To be honest. Nope." Although I know Shane just for a few weeks, he is really no competition against Paxton. Though I might be a bit biased because he is my best friend.

"Aurora! I want ice-cream. Now!" Cara yelled from upstairs.

I quickly hung up my phone and answered Cara.

"Get it on your own." I yelled back.

"Please! I can't even sleep because I am craving ice cream so so much."

"It's one at night. Do you think any shops are open now?"

"Yes. The one round the corner of the street Dad brought me ice cream from there the other day."

"Fine. This is the last time though." I replied.

"You are the best!" She hugged me.

It was cold outside so I wore a jacket. I ordered Cara's favourite mint chocolate. It really does taste like toothpaste. I don't know why she likes it. Just as the cashier was about to give the change back my phone started ringing in the quiet store. The only two customers in the store looked at me annoyed by the loud noise.

I literally ran out of the store and picked up my phone without looking at the screen.

"Hi." The familiar voice greeted me.

"Hi." It's awkward.

"I thought you were sleeping." He said.

"No, I am not."

"I just wanted to tell you I am sorry for what I did. Something urgent came up and..."

"It's okay, I didn't wait much long anyway." I interrupted him.

"Still, I am sorry." He really sounded guilty.

An awkward silence settled among us. This was somehow different. We were never awkward.

"Where were you?" I asked before I could stop myself.

"In the hospital." His voice was gruff.

"What? Why the hospital? Are you okay? Is your leg okay?" I was alarmed at the mention of a hospital.

" I am okay. Yes, I am." He said this more to himself.

"Then?"

"My friend isn't."

"What do you mean? Do you want me to come?" I was literally about to sprint wherever the hell he was at.

"Will you?" He sounded helpless.

"Yes." I said too quickly.

"Then please come. I really need someone right now."

"What happened to your friend Adam?" I asked in a soft voice urging him to tell me everything. Just before I was getting ready to sprint. The streets were empty and no cabs could be seen.

"He committed suicide." He sobbed.

************

I know I am late guys. But I have a good excuse this time. I have the flu.

Do you like mint chocolate? I like it and it doesn't really taste like toothpaste.
