Part 3

As they left the café, the streets of Kenyatta Market bustled with energy. Vendors called out their prices, matatus honked impatiently, and the scent of roasting maize filled the air. Just as they were about to hail a boda boda, Aisha heard a familiar voice.

"Aisha?"

She turned to see a young man approaching—Omar, a childhood friend from Mombasa. His face lit up with surprise and something else—nostalgia.

"Omar! What are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same," he replied, grinning. "It's been years."

Juma watched the exchange, an unreadable expression on his face.

The sight of Omar left Aisha momentarily speechless. Memories of their childhood in Mombasa flooded her mind—afternoons spent playing by the beach, laughter shared under the shade of baobab trees.

"I never expected to see you here," she finally said, her voice soft.

Omar chuckled. "Life has a way of bringing people together when they least expect it. I moved to Nairobi for work a year ago."

Juma, sensing a history between the two, cleared his throat. "Aisha, would you like to introduce us?"

"Oh, of course," she said hastily. "Juma, this is Omar, an old friend from Mombasa. Omar, this is Juma, a new friend from Nairobi."

Juma extended his hand, his grip firm. "Nice to meet you, Omar."

Omar met his gaze with equal intensity. "Likewise."

Mama Nduta, ever perceptive, sensed the tension. "Well," she interjected, "perhaps we should all get going. Aisha, we don't want to be out too late."

Omar nodded. "Of course. But Aisha, can we catch up sometime? Maybe over tea?"

She hesitated, then smiled. "I'd like that."

As Omar walked away, Juma remained quiet, his thoughts unreadable. The encounter had stirred something in him—something unfamiliar.

As Aisha and Mama Nduta walked ahead, Juma lingered behind, watching Omar disappear into the Nairobi night.

The following day, Aisha found herself seated at a small café in downtown Nairobi, nervously stirring her tea. Across from her sat Omar, his expression warm yet searching.

"I still can't believe it's you," he said, breaking the silence. "It feels like a lifetime since Mombasa."

Aisha nodded, offering a small smile. "It does. Nairobi is... different."

Omar leaned forward. "Are you happy here?"

She hesitated before responding. "I don't know yet. Everything is so fast, so unfamiliar."

"You'll adjust," Omar assured her. "And if you ever need anything, I'm here."

Before Aisha could respond, she noticed Juma standing near the entrance of the café. His gaze was locked onto them, his expression unreadable. For a brief moment, an unspoken tension hung in the air.

Omar turned to see what had caught Aisha's attention. He offered Juma a polite nod, but Juma merely turned and walked away.

Aisha exhaled deeply. "I should go."

Omar frowned but didn't press further. "Alright. But let's not wait another lifetime to talk again."

As Aisha stepped out into the bustling streets, she felt conflicted. Her past and present had collided, leaving her at a crossroads she had never anticipated.
