Chapter 13 | Cheerleader
Sarah's POV
"And you're just now telling me this?" Scott says with widened eyes as Lydia, Stiles, and I tell him about our connection. Lydia had a guilty conscious about not telling him, so she said that if we couldn't do it then she sure would. So that's why Lydia was doing the talking while Stiles and I stood back.
Stiles takes a deep breath. "It's not a big deal Scott-"
"Well from what Lydia is telling me, it sure sounds a hell lot of a big deal," Scott says, his tone rising a little. "Why didn't you tell us sooner?"
I pick away at the red nail polish on my nails without looking up at Scott. "Well, we didn't want to worry you first off, and then we didn't want to tell you because of your reaction right now."
Scott sighs. "I'm not angry at you guys, but I'm a little disappointed that you didn't tell us sooner. For all we know, something else could go terribly wrong. What if you guys started to feel other connections and it led to something bad?"
"Actually..." Lydia fades off, thinking for a moment as Scott stares at her wide eyed. "I haven't ever heard about two beings being able to feel one another's pain, but I have heard about Neurophilosophy."
Scott shakes his head. "What is that?"
Lydia rolls her eyes slightly, sort of aggravated that we didn't know as much as she did. "It's basically the study of the mind, which might somehow be connected with Stiles and Sarah. They have said that they can feel one another's pain, but what if it progresses into something like telepathic abilities? Or what if Stiles somehow develops some of Sarah's powers? We just can't know for sure."
"You're telling me that you think this might grow worse?" Scott says, his jaw hanging open slightly. I would be acting the same as Scott right now, but Lydia had already told us all of her thoughts on the matter, which plunged me into an emotional state for a few days. I got over it, but I still am worried deeply about Stiles and I. I just wanted answers.
Lydia nods her head. "I'm afraid so. As of right now, I think they'll be fine for the time being. They'll just have to make sure to tell us any changes they might be encountering so that we can figure it out."
"Well maybe this won't be such a bad thing," Scott says, trying to be optimistic. "I mean, maybe you guys could use some of this stuff to help."
I cross my arms. "Lydia hasn't told you the last thing yet."
Scott furrows his eyebrows before he looks down at the strawberry blonde, almost hesitant to even wanting to know what she was about to say. "Since they are somehow connected, by my predictions, they might eventually become the same person."
"H-How is that even possible?" Scott says, stuttering a little on his first few words.
Lydia shakes her head as she glances back at the two of us. "I'm not sure how it will happen or even if it will happen, but either way, whatever happens in the end won't be good."
"Where's the surprise in that..." Stiles mutters under his breath as I scoff slightly.
"Maybe it has to do with the fact of them coming back at the same time," Scott suggests while looking back at me. "Did your mother mean to bring you both back?"
I shake my head as I shift my weight to my other hip. "She said she didn't know how that happened. That was one of the first things I had asked her; which she didn't have an answer to."
"Maybe it has something to do with the nogitsune," Stiles says, sounding almost fazed to mention that. My mind quickly flashes back to everything that happened before I push it to the side. "Since Sarah and I were both possessed at the same time."
Lydia places her finger on her chin. "I didn't even think about that."
"But that still doesn't explain why we can feel each other's pain," I say, sighing once again. All of this boggled my mind. "There has to be some type of answer out there, right?"
Lydia nods. "I can try and do some more research. I might not find anything, but I'll try."
"We'll look for something too," I say as I look over at Stiles, hinting towards some type of study thing later. He nods towards me, getting the memo.
"Let me know if you guys find anything," Scott says while hiking his bag up higher on his shoulders. "And you two-" he points at Stiles and I,"-Tell us if you notice anything else. Don't keep it from anyone."
I nod my head as Stiles does as well. "Yeah, we will."
"Well we better get to class," Scott says while looking down at his phone at the time. "I'll see you guys after school."
We all say our goodbyes before walking off to class, the three of us sticking together since we all had Algebra next period. Stiles walks up beside me and grabs my hand briefly as we trail behind Lydia, who was walking as if she was tired or stressed out. It made me worried about her.
"You haven't noticed anything else about us, have you?" I ask Stiles, who quickly looks at me as I stare at his moles on his face.
He shakes his head. "Nope, you?"
"Just the pain," I assure, knowing that nothing else out of the ordinary was happening. I only hoped that it stayed this way...at least for awhile. I didn't need any more problems in my life, and the possibility of Stiles and I merging scared me to death. I wasn't worried about myself, but more for Stiles. He didn't deserve any of this.
"So did you want to come over later tonight after lacrosse tryouts to research some stuff?" Stiles asks as we walk into the classroom, where Malia was already sitting down highlighting many things.
I nod my head. "Yeah, we need to find some answers."
"Sounds good to me," Stiles says before pulling his hand away, causing the two of us to go sit in the front two seats next to one another. Lydia places her stuff down onto her desk before sitting behind me, glancing over at Malia who had glanced up to see Stiles walk into the room.
"What's with all of the highlighters?" I ask, pointing at the green, yellow, and red ones lying on her desk.
She gives me an odd look, almost looking like jealousy. "They're to help me study better. Green is for the things I understand, yellow is for I'm working on it, and red is I have no clue. I'm mostly using red."
Lydia furrows her eyebrows as she stares at Malia's red covered textbook. "Did you try looking at the notes I gave you?"
"Yeah," Malia says, placing the red highlighter down onto her desk. "I couldn't understand them."
Lydia sighs. "I can help you study later if you would like?"
Malia pauses as she glances over at Stiles, giving him and I a stare down. It was almost as if she was waiting for Stiles to step up and say that he could study with her, but he did nothing of the sort. He must not have caught on, because Malia soon grits her teeth and turns back to Lydia, putting on a fake smile.
"Sure, I need all the help I can get."
---------
"Who in the hell is that?" I say with widened eyes as I watch some freshman toss the ball into the net, causing him and his little friends to high five one another. I was now sitting in the bleachers watching the Lacrosse tryouts when I had seen a new freshman come onto the field and literally show everyone up.
Kira messes with a lacrosse stick in her hands. "I think I heard Scott say that it was a kid named Liam...said that he was going to be some competition apparently."
"What, for Team Captain?" I ask, looking over at Kira.
She nods. "Yeah, Scott really wants that spot."
Kira fades off as she stares at her feet, causing me to raise an eyebrow. Kira never acted like this; she was always either peppy or happy, not bummed out looking. "What's wrong?"
She flashes her eyes up. "What do you mean?"
"You look glum," I say, leaning forwards a little. "What's on your mind?"
Kira shakes her head as she places her chin on her lacrosse stick. "Scott and I kind of had this thing, and I'm not really sure how to react to this thing. I don't know how he feels, and I'm not really sure how I feel either. Actually, I'm not even sure if it even is a thing at all."
I purse my lips, taking a wild guess and guessing that it had something to do with a kiss of some sort. "Well, what do you want it to be?"
She sighs. "More."
"SCOTT AND STILES, GET YOUR ASSES ON THE FIELD."
Kira and I are surprised for a moment by the loud yelling from Coach, but we soon look down onto the field and see that Scott and Stiles were both grabbing different lacrosse sticks. I was pretty excited to watch Stiles practice; mostly since I haven't seen him play before. He told me that he wasn't that great, but that's what all guys say, right? He has to be better than what everyone claims.
"Is this your first time watching Scott play?" I ask Kira, smiling slightly as Scott and Stiles ran towards the goalie.
Kira nods her head. "Yeah actually. Lydia told me that he used to be the Team Captain."
"Really?" I say, but that was before I realized that it has to of been because of his werewolf abilities. "Is he again this year?"
"That's actually what he's worried about," she says as I look back down onto the field, seeing Coach blowing the crap out of his whistle. "He's worried that that new Liam kid will take his spot."
I nod my head, just now noticing the tension between the two of them. "Then I guess these tryouts should be pretty interesting."
Kira chuckles slightly as I lean forwards in my seat, ready to watch Stiles play. Him and Scott were both standing in front of the goal, my guess to block the shot from one of the other players. Kira sits forwards a little as well as I watch Stiles tighten his grip on the lacrosse stick in his hands, his knuckles turning white. I guess he was nervous.
I watch as some kid in a blue shirt runs forwards and grabs a lacrosse ball, bolting towards Scott and Stiles. I hold my breath as I watch Stiles run towards him, his legs a little flimsy as he tried to block the kid. Stiles completely misses the guy before Scott takes care of him for him by shoulder checking him. Kira and I make a pained sound as the kid falls to the ground, the ball flying out of his lacrosse stick.
"I guess Stiles wasn't as good as I thought he was," I mutter to myself, but Kira hears me.
She looks over at me with her bright eyes. "Don't worry, I'm sure that was just nerves. He'll do better, I know it."
"I hope so," I say as my leg begins to thump, partially worried for Stiles and partially anticipating to see him try again. Kira and I watch closely as Scott and Stiles line back up in front of the goal, bending over slightly and looking as if they were ready to take on any challenge.
But that was before they realized Liam was next.
"Oh boy," Kira mumbles as I raise my eyebrows. Liam half smirks at the two boys as he picks up a lacrosse ball, waiting for Coach to blow the whistle. Time seems frozen still before the sound of the whistle blares, sending the three boys running towards the other.
My fingers clench as I watch Liam run towards Stiles and Scott, staying on his toes so that he could maneuver easily. Grass flies up behind his cleats as he meets Stiles, easily lifting his lacrosse stick and dodging him with ease. My stomach flops as I watch Stiles tumble into the grass, making me slightly angry at Liam for embarrassing him, and slightly mad that he couldn't have taken it a little easy.
Scott goes to take care of Liam, which I was almost sure he would be able to do. However, Liam manages to get around Scott as well before scoring the lacrosse ball into the net, turning around and smirking as he walked back to the line. I could already tell I didn't like this kid.
"Do over!" I hear someone scream, causing me to look down the bleachers and see Malia screaming while standing up.
Coach looks over his shoulder. "Sweetheart, there aren't any do overs in lacrosse."
"Ten bucks on Scott and Stiles," Malia contines to say, staring out at Stiles on the field. My jealousy gets the best of me as I stand up as well, screaming down at Coach.
"Make it twenty!" I yell, causing Malia to look over her shoulder at me with a terrible glare. I give her a half smile that was totally fake before Coach points over at me.
"I'll take that action," he says. "Liam, get back up there!"
I hear Stiles groan slightly from the field, probably because of what just happened between Malia and I, but I wasn't sure. Kira just looks at me and laughs, probably because of the tension between Malia and I. You see, I knew what she was doing, and no way would I let her take Stiles from me. Stiles was mine, and I didn't want her thinking anything otherwise.
My mind drifts away from the topic before I watch Liam take off towards Stiles and Scott yet again, this time even more determined to make the ball into the net. My heart skips a beat when I hear Scott growl slightly, already causing me to know that this wasn't going to go well...not at all.
I wait for Scott to meet Liam with a shoulder check, but to my surprise, Stiles was there first. It almost didn't seem like him as Stiles throws his lacrosse stick towards Liam's, causing the ball to go flying out of the net. A huge grins forms on my face as I watch the ball land in the grass, more than happy to see Stiles taking down the all mighty freshman. I was about to stand up and cheer for him, but before I could, Scott takes Liam down without warning.
Liam goes flying up over Scott's shoulder, already causing everyone to know that this wasn't going to end well. Stiles' mouth falls open slightly as I stand up in fear for Liam, Kira staying seated. I cringe as I hear bone break as he lands on his leg, twisting it in such a way that it looked abnormal. The air leaves my lungs before I'm running down the bleachers, joining the crowd that was running towards Liam as well.
"Don't touch him!" Coach yells. "No one touch him!"
"I'm fine Coach," Liam says as he starts to stand. "I promise I'm fine-"
He stops short as he erupts into a blood curdling scream, causing Scott and Stiles to wrap their arms around him to give him support. I could tell by the look of his leg that he had broken a bone, Coach knowing it as well. Stiles looks over at me briefly before looking back at Coach, squinting his eyes slightly.
"I think we should take him to the nurse," he says as Coach widens his eyes.
"Take him then!" he screams as Stiles and Scott help Liam stumble away. A part of me wanted to follow off after them, but I figured that I should just let it be. I didn't want to be in the way. Besides, I was too surprised by that move Stiles did to even want to go after them. It amazed me to see him not play good and then automatically play better, but whatever it was, I liked it.
I just hoped it didn't mean something more.
-------
Next chapter should be pretty good. I hope to add in another Stiles POV, but we'll see how it goes!
