Chapter 26 | Broken Memories

Sarah's POV

"Like hell you will," I say as the heat starts to go to my hands, my blood boiling. Kate just smirks at me as her face starts to transform into that thing she is, her green eyes burning into my own. I could smell the desperation on her, along with the sense of envy.

Chris steps forwards then, pointing a gun at her head. She stops her transformation as she looks down at her brother, disgusted. "I always forget you keep two guns on you."

"Back off!" Chris screams at Kate as I back Stiles away, making sure to get him at a safe distance if fighting were to ensue.

Kate raises her eyebrows. "Sure you can pull that trigger fast enough?"

"I don't want to."

"You're not going to kill me," Kate snarls.

Chris tightens his grip. "And I'm not going to let you touch them either!"

Kate looks as if she's about to back down for a moment, but soon that look is gone. Her eyes burn green once again as canines form, a snarl leaving her lips. "I'm sorry, Chris."

My eyes widen when I see her grab Chris' hand, twisting it so that the gun falls to the floor with a clatter. Chris lets out a moan of pain before Kate grabs his neck, turning around and throwing him back into the wall. He falls limp to the floor below as his head hangs, leaving Stiles and I the only two conscious ones left in the room.

Kate growls at me as she fully transforms, causing Stiles to grip onto my hand tightly. "Sarah, come on!"

Stiles starts to drag me out of the room as I follow, looking over my shoulder at Kate. The lighting causes her eyes to glow in the dark, but I could still see the purple outline of her face. We were almost out of the door before I feel something grab my shoulder, throwing me back so that I land on one of the tables.

A sharp pain blossoms in my back as I sit up, my eyes wide with fear. I was worried that Kate would go after Stiles, but I was wrong. Instead, she was marching over to me, rage and triumph in her eyes. I try to stand up to defend myself, but her hand is already clasped around my throat before I can move.

She lifts me up into the air as I see Stiles fall to the floor, gasping for air. Kate looks over her shoulder at him as she grins, looking back at me. "I guess you two really are connected after all. How interesting."

"Go to Hell," I gasp before my foot lands in her gut, causing her to drop me to the floor. She was taken off guard as I regain my balance, taking this as my chance. My hands grow hot once again as I'm pressing them against her cheeks, watching as her purple skin turned red. She screams in agony before I let her go, watching her fall to the floor, clasping her face.

"Run Stiles!" I scream as I'm running towards him, practically shoving him out of the room. We leave Kate behind as we bolt through the hospital hallways, seeing people still running around in complete chaos. It wasn't until then that I realized Scott's time was almost up.

We get a good distance before I stop in my tracks, causing Stiles to stop as well. He looks over at me, out of breath. "We need to find Kira. Now."

"What about the bitch chasing us?" Stiles says, nodding back down the hall.

I shake my head. "What about Scott?"

Stiles realizes my point before he turns and looks the other way down the hall. As he's looking, I'm trying to focus my hearing on Kira; I wanted to at least figure out what in the hell was happening with everyone else right now. I try to listen to what was happening up on the roof, but instead I hear something that sounded like the Berserker growls. Great, they're here too.

"I think I hear something," Stiles says, looking focused. For a moment I was glad that he got something, but then my heart sank into my stomach when I remembered how he could hear something. "I think they're still on the roof."

I nod my head before I'm running towards the stairs. "Come on!"

I lead the way as we both run to the stairwell, hearing the sound of our feet stomp up the steps as fast as we possibly could. My blood pumped through my veins, feeling the adrenaline and the sense that we were running out of time. This plan sucked enough as it did, and it only got fifty times worse, if that was even possible.

We finally reach the top as I slam open the door, my eyes scanning the rooftop to see that no one was up here. I furrow my eyebrows as I step forwards slowly, feeling as if something was watching me. Stiles stays close behind me as I focus on the sounds around me, but I couldn't hear that anyone else was up here.

I spoke too soon.

I don't have time to react as something comes running around the corner, taking me off guard. My eyes widen when I see that it's a berserker, angry and full of rage. The thing picks me up swiftly before throwing me across the floor, causing me to skid to a halt about fifteen feet away from Stiles.

I look up hazily to see Stiles standing there looking at the creature with his jaw dropped, not even processing what was even happening. I was about to scream at him to run, to get out of here, but I didn't get to when I see the berserker throw it's hand across his face, a sharp pain forming in my own cheek as well. I raise my hand to touch it, seeing that he had cut Stiles.

My eyes burn orange once again as I stand back up, fury in my eyes. Stiles stays laying there on the ground, confused and scared as can be. The berserker looks back at me before it growls again, running at me at a full sprint. I'm soon running at him as well, determined to win this fight this time. No way was this thing going to get away for what it's done.

Just when we're about to meet, I extend my right leg and drop to the ground, causing me to slide completely underneath the berserker. It keeps running past me as I stand back up quickly, turning around to see that it's back was still turned. I use this as my chance to do some damage, so I quickly form heat in my hands before throwing the little balls of fire they had created.

The berserker whips around quickly at this, it not seeming to do anything to harm it. I really knew we were screwed then. My mouth opens slightly to croak out something, but soon the berserkers hand is wrapped around my throat, permitting me from saying a single word. It looks as if it's about to finish me off before I hear a snarling voice, making my blood run cold.

"Put her down," I hear Kate say, who came walking up behind the berserker, her face still beet red from what I had done to her. "She's mine."

The berserker is soon letting me go, but only giving me a quick recovery. Kate is soon standing there in front of me, only to greet me by a nice punch across the face. I spit blood as I fall onto my knees, feeling weaker by the second. I couldn't beat her on my own. I couldn't protect Stiles from her. I was worthless.

"Look at you," Kate says as she kicks me across the face again this time, causing me to fall back onto my side. I glare up at her as blood trickles down my forehead. "Pathetic. You're just a little girl who thinks she can save her friends from what's to come. But you don't get it, do you? I know what happened to you and Stiles, and there's no way in reversing it. You can't protect your friends, let alone your own damn self."

"You're wrong," I spit as I try to stand, only for my legs to shake. "There's a way to fix it..."

Kate laughs in my face before kicking me again, causing me to fall back to the floor. I land on my stomach this time, which allows me to get a glance of Stiles. He was laying there on the ground in pain, just like me. His doe eyes stare at me back, a look of pure pain and fear behind them.

"Do you know who I am?" Kate says as her teeth bare at me. "They call me bone woman, in case you didn't know. I've turned men into beasts, along with reversing time. Don't you think that if there was a way to fix it, I'd sure as hell know? You two are just stuck in a tragic little love story, one that ends with both of you in the ground."

I breathe heavily as I look back at Kate, staring at the beast she really was. "You're wrong..."

She stares at me for a moment, seeing how broken I really was. I try to scoot away from her as she kneels down onto her knees, now on the same level as me. I gulp as I stare at her, wondering what she wanted. Her eyes narrow as my heart races in my chest, hearing Stiles' thump in my ears as well.

"You know, you remind me of myself," she says softly, which was a new thing for my ears. "Died, came back to life, and left utterly and miserably broken. If you think I'm pitting you, I'm not. You got the better end of the deal, Sarah, and you just don't realize it. You've got friends, family...something I lost long ago."

Something clears behind her eyes just then; like she had finally realized what she was doing was wrong. My jaw drops slightly, this all feeling like some type of act. It appeared that Kate was about to let us both go, and I believed her. But I guess all good things come to an end.

It looks like something takes back over her, like she was losing control. She bares her teeth at me once again as a vicious looks crawls back onto her face. "So that's why you need to die, Sarah. No hard feelings."

My heart races in my chest once again as she grabs me by the throat, snarling before throwing me towards the ledge of the roof. I land two feet from the side before I tumble, causing me to fall over. My hands quickly clasp onto the edge of it, holding onto dear life, but only for Stiles.

"Sarah!" I hear him scream over my sounds of struggle. Kate walks over to me then, a smirk still plastered onto her face. My life flashes before my eyes right there and then, thinking about my mother, my brother, and most importantly, how I had failed. I had failed in protecting Stiles, to find a way to reverse this. I had failed everyone.

Kate gets down onto her knees once again as my arms weaken, knowing that I'd fall at any second if someone didn't help me up. She leans close my face as her breath trickles down my neck, sending goosebumps to rise on my skin.

"Have fun in hell, girl on fire."

Kate stands then, raising her foot to finish me off. A small wet tear trickles down the side of my check as I close my eyes, ready for her to end it. A few seconds go by, nothing happening. I soon open my eyes again, only to see that Kate was no longer standing there. I furrow my eyebrows before Stiles' head pops back into my view, a tired and worn out look on his face.

He grunts as he grabs my hands, pulling me up until I'm no longer dangling over the side of the ledge. My eyes scan the surroundings to see that Kate was lying a little ways aways, starting to sit up once again. I guessed that Stiles had taken care of her just in enough time to get me up, but it didn't matter. Because soon Kate was running back at the both of us, determined to finish us off.

I start to stand to protect Stiles, but Stiles stands first and beats me to it. I scream Stiles' name as Kate collides into Stiles, causing the two of them to completely miss me and fall backwards. That was the moment when I realized that they were going over.

My hand reaches towards Stiles, but I'm just out of grasp. I don't have time to process what to think as Kate and Stiles go falling below, the fall being at least a twenty foot drop. I lean over the edge as I scream Stiles' name, now knowing that it was all over.

Everything goes black just as soon as Stiles hits the pavement.

--------------

Cliff hangers are so fun yayyy

I am predicting that there will only be about 6-7 more chapters of this book, but that's just a guess after all. I honestly don't want it to end, but I think that the end of this one will be pretty fun to write. Plus with what else I have in store, it should keep you guys interested at the very least.

Happy December as well!
