Silent Funerals

I decided to use one of the prompts recommended by Lady_of_Erudite in her book "Writing Prompts" and twist it a little bit.

Prompt: Write a story set in a funeral. The catch? Nobody is talking, but their silence has nothing to do with the person in the casket.
----------"---------"---------"----------"---------"----

A silent cemetery. Five people at the grave.
The priest is rapidly escaping.
Four left, and they seem to be brave.
But something feels like they are breaking.

And it's not about death, no, it's not about death.
There are shadows invading the silence.
And it's not their last breath, no, it's not their last breath.
But they're closer and closer to violence.

An old woman is hopelessly facing the ground.
But the dead man isn't the problem.
Her little cat is nowhere to be found.
Who cares about the body in the bottom?

A younger girl is sitting on her knees.
But the dead man isn't the problem.
She's focused on her emptiness within.
Who cares about the body in the bottom?

Some random hippie is scratching his guitar.
But the dead man isn't the problem.
There's nothing more for him, but one cigar.
Who cares about the body in the bottom?

And only the child is shedding one last tear.
But the dead man isn't the problem.
His toy fell in the dead man's grave, I fear.
Who cares about the body in the bottom?

A silent cemetery. Four people at the grave.
The priest has finally escaped somehow.
The problem is, there's nobody to save.
Humanity's long gone by now.
