There was nothing wrong with Caspian Sullivan. He considers himself to be an average college student. Probably not too average, but average enough that Cas could consider himself average.
His best friend, Daphne, also fully considers him to be average. She says it all the time.
"You are the most regular guy I've seen ever," Daphne said, her head hanging off of his bed.
Caspian's bedroom was one of his favourite places in the world, besides the university library. He had his own minifridge and no roommate. Cas even had a bunch of cute star shaped lights that Daph had helped him put up. He sat on his bed, watching Daph as she tapped his computer shut with her foot. "What do you mean?"
"I mean," Daph said, her long black hair hitting the tile floor of Cas' room as she spoke. "You never go out, you're always studying, and you pretty much have one friend and it's me. Average. You're so normal it's funny."
"I have more than one friend."
Daph laughed, "Your siblings don't count and no one you work with counts either."
"I feel like you're roasting me."
Daphne sat up, letting Cas grab her legs to keep her from toppling off of the small dorm bed. He knew she had really good core muscles but he'd rather not drive her to the ER at 11pm on a Sunday. He watched as she brushed her hair out of her face and then made direct eye contact with him. Her blue eyes seared into his hazel ones. "Dude. It's not roasting if it's true."
Cas hummed, "I'm not sure about that."
He brushed a bit of chip off of his hoodie and onto the floor. He'd probably get to sweeping sometime soon. He and Daph had been watching some sort of reality tv show when Cas had asked, in response to something on the tv, if she considered him to be normal.
"It's not like you didn't ask," Daph said as she stood up from the bed, her long brown legs unfolding from underneath her. She was really pretty. Cas knew this because she told him so every single day. Daphne was a very opinionated person and if anyone knew it, Caspian did.
"Okay, yeah," Cas said, cracking his neck as he stood up. "I guess I technically did ask. But you know, I was expecting something a little less..."
"Truthful?"
He turned away from Daph and leaned down to grab a Sprite from his mini fridge. "No?" He said, before turning back to his best friend. "Or, I mean, like... yes?"
Daphne pulled her hair up into a ponytail as she gave him a look. Her hoodie slipping off of her shoulder and revealing the bright blue crop top underneath that she'd made from one of Cas' old shirts. "Yes or no, Cas. You've got to pick one."
He popped open the can of Sprite and took a sip. It bubbled in Cas' throat and, despite the buzzing, was extremely satisfying to him. He liked the feeling of carbonation. It was apparently a controversial take but Caspian didn't really care.
"Can I not?"
Her sharp look shot through Cas' soul.
Daphne had been his best friend since middle school. Cas didn't really imagine any sort of college career or university without his best friend. She'd been there for him through everything so Cas could live through a little bit of gentle ribbing. Plus, it wasn't like he didn't ask for it, sometimes.
"Seriously, Cas?" She sat back down on the bed and pulled his computer towards her. Caspian leaned over her, watching as she typed away, pulling up his calendar and raising an eyebrow at him. "All you've got on here are your classes. Are you seriously that sad? No parties?"
He shook his head.
"Fuck, Cas. Okay well..." Daphne trailed off as she clicked on the icon for Friday and started making an event on his calendar. "You're coming to my dance showcase next friday and you're staying for the party after."
Cas made a little bit of a smushed face.
Daphne looked over her shoulder at him and laughed before saying, incredibly seriously, "You're going, Cas. I swear to God, you're going."
"Right, yeah, okay. I'm going." He held his hands up in an apologetic manner. "I'll be there, Daph. I promise."
She raised an eyebrow as she scooched over on the bed, allowing him to actually sit on his own bed. Caspian grabbed the laptop back and tapped for a second before the Jersey Housewives were back on his screen and Daphne was sufficiently distracted from his lonely, lonely life.
