[CASSANDRA]

1.02 || chapter two

.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.

"Kassie!"

The blonde turns around when she hears her name before raising a brow briefly when she sees Allison walking over to her, spotting Scott standing at the other end of the hall. Allison had texted her and then almost immediately called her after Scott had told her that he'd been sick the night of the party. And then had proceeded to ramble about him for another forty minutes.

"Yes?" Kassandra asks when Allison stops in front of her.

"We have French." Allison says and the blonde sighs.

"Yeah, but, have I mentioned I hate French? And learning all languages in general?" She asks.

"Yes, several times. Now come on." Allison says and Kassandra sighs before nodding.

"Okay, fine. To French, I guess." She says and Allison smiles at her before grabbing her arm to pull her along with her.

.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.

Kassandra glances up from her book when someone stops in front of her, expecting to see Allison since the girl had asked her to wait for her, before frowning slightly when she sees Scott standing there. "Hi?" She says with a frown.

"You're Kassandra, right? You're friends with Allison?" He asks.

"Uh, Kassie's fine but yes." She says and he sits down on the bench beside her. "Do you need something?" She asks.

"Just- You and Allison seem pretty close already, so I figured I'd introduce myself." Scott says. "I'm Scott."

"Yeah, I know." She responds. "Did Allison ask you to do this?"

Scott goes slightly pink at the question and the blonde nods with a hum. "I was that obvious?"

"More, she went on a twenty minute rant yesterday about how I need friends that aren't her." Kassandra responds and he nods. "And I've never really seen you talk to anyone but Stiles." She says.

"Right. That wasn't necessarily a choice. If I could take a break, I would sometimes." Scott says and she smiles a little in amusement.

"You don't need to do this. It's fine, really. I was totally content with no friends, I just couldn't tell Allison no for whatever reason. It's her face. It feels like how I would think kicking a puppy would feel." Kassandra says and he laughs slightly.

"No, I do want to. I don't know why I haven't before." He says and she hums softly.

"Lydia and Jackson, probably. Think I singlehandedly managed to land myself at the bottom of the social food chain on day one. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to join me. They can be bad enough as is." Kassandra says lightly and he nods a little.

"Why didn't you tell Allison that?" He asks and Kassandra shrugs a little.

"They were being perfectly nice to her. No point in hindering her ability to make friends. Being new is hard enough. If she could have an in, I wasn't going to ruin that because I didn't succeed." Kassandra says.

"Well, look, I'm not just here because of Allison. So, if you'd like you can sit with us at lunch. Stiles and me, that is." Scott says.

"That's sweet but I'm okay. I don't normally go into the cafeteria at lunch. There's too many people and it's normally too loud. I sit in the library." Kassandra says.

"Well, if you ever change your mind, the offer's open." Scott says and the blonde nods a little.

"Thanks."

"I've gotta get to work. Tell Allison I said hi?" He asks.

"Sure." Kassandra responds with a brief smile and he nods with a grin before walking away. Kassandra watches him walk away for a moment with a slight frown before shaking her head slightly as she looks back down at her book.

"Kassie, hey! You ready to go?" The blonde looks up at Allison as the other girl looks over at her before grabbing her bag as she stands.

"I can't believe you sicced your boyfriend on me." Kassandra says and Allison frowns. "Complaining I don't have any friends is one thing. Getting your boyfriend to befriend me is a whole other."

"I told him not to say anything." Allison says.

"He didn't. But I'm not an idiot. Him talking to me happened to come right after your rant about my lack of friends. I'd need to have been blind, deaf and stupid not to figure that out." Kassandra says and Allison shrugs a little.

"I cannot be your only friend. That's ridiculous. You'll get sick of me." Allison says and Kassandra sighs.

"I don't know where you're getting that idea because I really am fine with not having any other friends. I've never been a friends kind of person full stop. Definitely not a group of them. I don't like groups. They stress me out." Kassandra says.

"So, if I said after the game we're all planning on going out to celebrate, we being me, Lydia, Jackson, Scott, maybe Stiles, other players, it'd be a no?" Allison asks.

"It'd be a firm no. That I will not be budging on. Even if I did want to go, which I absolutely and definitively do not, I wouldn't be welcome. And I think you know that." Kassandra says.

"They'd like you if they gave you a chance. I know that." Allison says.

"If you try to coerce me into being friends with Lydia or Jackson, I will throw myself in front of a moving car." Kassandra says and Allison looks at her for a moment before laughing slightly.

"Alright, fine. Leaving it alone." Allison says and Kassandra nods. "But you are coming to the game."

"Oh, man. Is that the trade up?" Kassandra groans.

"It one hundred percent is and I am not backing down." Allison says and Kassandra sighs.

"You can't see anybody pulling out of a parking space, can you?"

.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.

"Heard they arrested someone on suspicion of that murder this morning." Elijah remarks as he makes breakfast at the counter.

"Oh, yeah?" Kassandra responds idly as she idly picks at her food without moving her eyes away from the book.

"Yeah, made friends with a couple of the guys at the station. Said they got a call and went out to pick this guy up." He says.

"Huh. That's good." Kassandra says and Elijah turns to look at his sister incredulously before he sees the book in her hand and he rolls his eyes.

"Are you even listening to me?" He asks and she finally looks up with a slight frown.

"What?"

"Said they arrested someone for the death of that girl this morning." Elijah says.

"Okay? Cool? Isn't that their job?" Kassandra asks.

"You're a nightmare." He complains and she frowns a little.

"Well, that's rude." She responds and he sighs.

"Kass, one normal human reaction is all I'm asking for. I say 'a guy was arrested on suspicion of murder', you say, 'oh, that's interesting, who?'. That's how the conversation is supposed to go." Elijah says.

"Oh, that's interesting, who?" She tries and he sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I don't know what you want from me. I don't really care. Didn't know the girl that died. Don't even know her name." Kassandra says.

Which was in fact a total lie. But she was also pretty sure she knew who they'd arrested already. But she also had very little interest in the conversation regardless.

"I give up and you're going to be late." Elijah says and she glances at her phone to check the time.

"Oh, shit." She says, grabbing her things.

"Leave the plate, I'll clean up." He says.

"Thank you. I'll see you later." Kassandra says before rushing out of the house.

.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.

"I know I agreed to come to the game and I know I'm mostly here right now because you're convinced I'm not going to actually go if I don't go with you," Kassandra starts.

"I'm not convinced. I'm one hundred percent certain." Allison cuts in.

"And you're one hundred percent right but," Kassandra says and Allison laughs slightly without looking up from the box she was going through. "But, I don't understand why that volunteers me to help you unpack." Kassandra says, gesturing to the box in front of her.

"You offered." Allison says, looking at her with a slightly confused frown.

"I was being polite. You were supposed to say, 'No, don't worry about it, Kassie. I've got it.'" Kassandra says.

"Well, next time don't offer." Allison responds.

"Next time, don't take me seriously when I'm obviously not being serious." Kassandra retorts and Allison rolls her eyes briefly, looking back at the pictures in her box. "So, do I have to keep helping?"

"I mean, you have already started." Allison says.

"Allison, I haven't even finished unpacking my own things. That's the level of procrastination I like to approach things with." Kassandra says.

"Okay, so, next time we hang out," Allison says as she gets up to close her curtains. "I'm coming over to yours and I'm helping you finish unpacking. Because you cannot live out of boxes."

"Oh, that wasn't what I- Oh, man. But I like my things in boxes. They're easy to find. Because they're labelled." Kassandra says.

"You're insane. You're unpacking fully." Allison says and Kassandra sighs, dropping back onto the bed behind her before glancing towards the window when she hears tires screech and a bang. "What was that?" Allison asks and Kassandra shakes her head as she shifts up onto her elbows.

"I can't see through walls unfortunately." She responds.

"Okay, you're not very helpful." Allison says.

"No, I'm not, am I?" Kassandra drops back onto the bed again and Allison shakes her head with a slightly amused smile.

"I'm gonna go see what it was. Are you coming?" Allison asks.

"No, I'm okay. But thank you." Kassandra responds.

"Are you serious?"

"Yeah, do I sound like I'm joking? I'm comfy. Plus you're dragging me to sit in the cold and watch lacrosse, I'm enjoying the warm house as much as I can." Kassandra responds and Allison shakes her head a little.

"You're insane." She announces before walking out of the room.

Kassandra lies on the bed with her eyes closed, only shifting to open an eye when Allison walks back into the room. "My dad just hit Scott with his car." Allison says after a moment and Kassandra laughs as she lies back again. "It's not funny!"

"It really is. I mean, I don't think that's the typical method to scare your daughter's boyfriend but I guess it works just as well if not better than the typical methods." Kassandra says.

"Kassie." Allison says.

"Is Scott alive?"

"Yeah, he's fine." Allison says and Kassandra hums.

"Then don't worry about it." The blonde says with a shrug.

"My dad's also decided he's coming to the game with us." Allison says.

"Oh, that's great, actually. I'm gonna sit between you so there's no chance of strangers on either side of me. I don't like strangers. They freak me out." Kassandra says and Allison smiles a little.

"Yeah, sure, okay." Allison says and Kassandra looks over at her at the slight hint of a laugh lacing her voice.

"I don't like being touched by anyone really but especially strangers. And sitting on the bleachers to watch lacrosse sounds like something that would result in like shoulder bumps or something and I'm not down for that. Makes me uncomfy. So, I'm just gonna use you guys as human shields. You befriended me, you have to deal with the consequences." Kassandra says.

"I'm not arguing with you. Do what you like." Allison says and Kassandra hums, narrowing her eyes at the other girl briefly before lying back again with her eyes closed. "You're really not gonna help me unpack anymore?"

"Honestly, now I've lay down, your bed is really comfy so I don't wanna move until I have to." Kassandra responds and Allison smiles slightly in amusement.

.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.

"Not liking popcorn isn't a criminal offence, Allison. I don't know why you're acting like I just confessed to war crimes." Kassandra says as they move to sit down on the bleachers.

"Everybody likes popcorn." Allison argues.

"No, they don't. You know how I know that? Because I don't like popcorn. I don't like corn in any form. Regardless of whether it's popped or not." Kassandra says.

"You're a freak of nature." Allison says.

"Thank you. That's so sweet." Kassandra responds dryly and Allison hums softly in response as the blonde pulls her knees up slightly and away from the person in front of her.

"You good?" Allison asks and Kassandra looks over at her before nodding a little as she leans on her knees.

"Just didn't want to risk booting that poor woman in the head. Don't think you're supposed to do that to strangers." Kassandra says and Allison smiles a little.

"You're not supposed to do that to anyone. Friend or stranger." Allison asks.

"How about enemies?" Kassandra asks.

"Do you have any enemies?" Allison counters.

"No, but I might one day. I've been told I'm very abrasive." Kassandra says.

"Abrasive is one way to put it." Allison responds lightly and Kassandra gently shrugs one shoulder in responds.

"Hey, Allison. Mr Argent." Lydia says as she claims the seat beside Allison and Kassandra tilts her head a fraction.

"Oh, my God. I'm invisible. Fuck yeah. Always wanted a super power. I mean it's a shit one but a super power nonetheless." Kassandra mutters under her breath and Allison smiles a little as she looks down while Chris clears his throat briefly to mask an laugh.

Kassandra fishes her phone out of her pocket when it buzzes, frowning a little when she sees her brother's name on the screen before opening the message. "Everything okay?" Chris asks and Kassandra glances at him.

"Yeah, my brother's just got a shitty memory." Kassandra says as she looks back at the messages.

Kassandra frowns incredulously as she looks at the messages. They'd all been sent in the space of five minutes. "What's up?" Allison asks as the referee blows the whistle.

"Uh, nothing. Don't worry about it. It's just Elijah." Kassandra says without looking up from her phone as she starts typing a response and Allison nods a little before going back to her conversation with Lydia.

EDITH

Kassandra hits send on the last message before putting her phone down in her lap and looking up at the field. She tilts her head a fraction as she watches the game, realising she had no idea who was which number. Her visions hadn't disclosed that. Which she hadn't minded before because she didn't care about lacrosse but now she wanted to know because she had no idea what was happening. And then her phone buzzes again

BONZO WANNABE

She rolls her eyes briefly as the messages come through before raising her phone.

Kassandra hums softly as she turns off her phone before looking back up at the lacrosse game. "What was up with him?" Allison asks and Kassandra looks over at her.

"Lijah forgot it was his turn to make dinner. And that I wouldn't be home for dinner. Or after dinner. My dad's now getting leftovers and Lijah's ordering a pizza." Kassandra says and Allison nods.

"You'd think he'd remember that kind of thing." Allison remarks.

"You haven't met my brother yet. That reminds me. You'll understand when I introduce you to him." Kassandra says.

"Bonzo wannabe?" Allison asks and Kassandra looks back down at her phone.

BONZO WANNABE

"He's a drummer. Or, he wants to be. I don't really know what a good drummer sounds like. I just know he's loud and he likes Led Zeppelin. John Bonham's kind of his idol." Kassandra says. "I'm in his phone as Edith. It's our grandma's name. Because she was a little spacey- very spacey all the time," Kassandra says, ignoring the light scoff from Lydia. "And because I crochet when most teenagers are out drinking, partying and all that jazz." Kassandra says and Allison hums softly with a nod before looking back at Lydia when she taps her arm.

Kassandra leans slightly against her knees, idly messing with her phone as she stares at the field. She wasn't really watching because she didn't know what was happening and she was mostly just hoping she wouldn't need to know what was happening. Although, as the game progresses, she becomes more sure that number eleven was Scott because the rest of the team were actively going out of their way to avoid giving him the ball and that sounded like the level of pettiness Jackson would probably go to as revenge for his shoulder.

The only reason she stands when the rest of the people in the stands do is to avoid a knee to the back or a vision being triggered. She glances to the side briefly when Allison leans down slightly before helping Lydia lift a sign saying 'WE LUV U JACKSON', raising a brow briefly before looking forwards again. That was rough.

Kassandra idly picks at her nails, pulling her legs away from the people in front when one of them bumps into it slightly without looking away from the field. "Which one is Scott again?" Chris asks quietly and Kassandra glances at him briefly before shaking her head with a shrug.

"I know which one the referee is." She remarks.

"Number eleven." Lydia cuts in slightly snidely and the three of them glance at her briefly. "Otherwise known as the only one who hasn't caught a single ball this entire game."

"I hope he's okay." Allison says, covering her face slightly with her sleeve-covered hand.

"I hope we're okay. We need to win this." Lydia amends and Kassandra just rolls her eyes in response.

Kassandra could have responded but she didn't feel like picking a fight with Lydia in the middle of the stands when Allison already seemed worried enough about Scott.

"Allison? A little help here?" Lydia asks pointedly as she stands holding one end of the poster and Allison glances at her with a slightly irritated expression before looking at Kassandra slightly incredulously and the blonde just shrugs a little as Allison sighs before standing and half-heartedly grabbing the other side of the poster.

Kassandra gently bumps her shoulder against Allison's when she sits back down and the brunette offers her a small, half-hearted smile before leaning against her briefly. Allison straightens up in her seat when Scott manages to get the ball and Kassandra leans away slightly in anticipation of Scott actually managing to score.

Allison does shoot up to her feet cheering when Scott's throw lands in the back of the net and Kassandra ducks a little instinctively before Allison pulls her up to her feet anyways. Honestly Kassandra mostly goes along with it because of the satisfaction she got from the sour look on Lydia's face both at Scott scoring and Allison choosing to celebrate with her over Lydia.

So she was petty. Sue her. She could be considerate of Allison's friendship with her and still be bitter and petty.

She doesn't maintain it for long though. There's only so much exaggerated cheering and smiling she can do for something she absolutely doesn't understand. Scott had scored. She got that and she was very clear on every other time he scored. Allison was very happy about it. Didn't mean she was actually following the game or what was happening besides that.

She does notice when Scott throws the ball at the goalkeeper hard enough that it tears a hole straight through the net of the goalie's stick. And she casts a brief glance at Chris out of the corner of her eye at that to see if he had any outward reaction to it. Scott was really going to have to learn some subtlety. He might not have noticed this time but honestly, that was probably more on account of Allison's squealing and cheering serving as a distraction from the actual events of the game.

As the clock ticks down to the last few seconds, she clocks how Scott starts to drift slightly after getting the ball and she frowns a little before glancing at Allison when she hears her murmuring encouragement for him under her breath. "You can do it, Scott."

"Allison, sweetie, you know he can't hear you right?" Kassandra whispers and Allison glances at her briefly with an eye roll. "Just checking." She shrugs as Scott seems to manage to get control of himself just in time to throw the ball and score the final goal just as the buzzer sounds and the referee blows his whistle.

Everyone around them is suddenly on their feet, cheering for Beacon Hills' win and Allison almost immediately rushes down the stands to look for Scott as Lydia heads down to find Jackson despite Chris' attempt to stop her. Kassandra walks down the stands with Chris as they watch Allison rush off the field after Scott before stuffing her hands into her pockets as she moves out of the way of the people walking past her. She hovers beside Chris, moving out of the way of people walking past them until she sees Stiles head in the same direction Allison and Scott had gone. "I'm gonna go find her." Kassandra says.

"I'm sure she'll be back in a minute." Chris responds and she hums.

"I'm still gonna go find her. If one more person walks within six inches of me instead of walking through the large open space, I'm gonna hurt somebody." Kassandra says and he chuckles briefly before she heads in the direction the other three had gone.

She walks down the hall once she gets to the school to see Stiles standing in the doorway to the locker room before Allison ducks past him. "Allison, come on." Kassandra says impatiently and both of them look over at her.

"I'm coming, jeez. You're worse than my dad." Allison says.

"It's cold out there. I wanna go home." Kassandra complains as Stiles walks into the locker room and Allison rolls her eyes as she loops her arm around Kassandra's. "Couldn't have just made out with your boyfriend in a dark corner on your own time?"

"This is my own time. It's not my fault you're impatient." Allison laughs.

"And cold." Kassandra argues.

"I told you that jacket wouldn't be warm enough."

"Oh, sorry, Mom."

.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.

Kassandra hangs her keys up on the hooks by the front door before ducking around the corner of the living room doorway when she hears the TV, moving to sit down when she sees Elijah sitting on the sofa and he glances up at her before holding out a slice of pizza towards her. "Thanks." She tucks her legs up onto the sofa as she sinks into the corner.

"Perfect timing. It just arrived." He responds and she hums softly as she watches the film he had on. He glances over at her briefly as he grabs his drink, raising a brow a little. "Have fun?"

She looks over at him at the question before smiling a little, "Yeah. Hung out at Allison's for a little while, had dinner, watched her unpack while her dad hit her boyfriend with his car, watched a lacrosse game technically." Kassandra says and he hums before frowning a little.

"Sorry, backtrack? Her dad did what?" He asks.

"Ah, he's fine. He played the lacrosse game tonight totally fine." Kassandra says, wafting a hand briefly.

"Sure, okay." He says with a shrug. "You've been spending a lot of time over there." Elijah remarks idly and she looks over at him.

"Is that a problem?" She asks.

"No! No, of course not. It's nice. I'm glad you managed to make a friend. You know, you're doing something besides locking yourself in your room." Elijah says. "Just, you're over at their place a lot for dinner. Like most days."

"Yeah, well, it's nice eating a meal without a passive aggressive air hanging over your head. Plus, they willingly talk to me." Kassandra says as she picks the pepperoni off her pizza.

"Kass," Elijah starts.

"Don't tell me I'm wrong because you know I'm not." She says.

"He does care about you, Kass. He's just-"

"Not handled Mom's death well, yes, so you've said. Weird how that stops him from acknowledging me but he can have full-fledged conversations with you. I don't remember the last time he even asked how school went." Kassandra says.

"That can't be right." Elijah says and she looks over at him briefly. "Well, I can-"

"Don't you dare. Him not wanting to talk to me is bad enough, Lijah. I don't want him to do it just because you told him to. It's fine. Forget about it. Just watch the film." She says.

"Kass,"

"Just watch the film." She repeats and he sighs before looking forwards again.
