Cecily Smith was a mystery wrapped in stage lights and marquee signs. A dancer in the USO tour backing America's favorite man with a plan, she brought hope and joy during a troubling time. A starlight smile always present, it was a wonder how she could stay so happy while singing about such a dark time for the world.

No one wondered more than Steve Rogers. Steve Rogers, a solider of another kind, fighting his battles on the stage, not the front lines, he had everything he wanted, but not at all what he hoped for. Yet despite the circumstances, the proverbial rain cloud couldn't help but be drawn to Cecily who was more than happy to try to brighten his day however she could, as smiling as the only thing she could do from breaking completely.

Over the course of the tour, the two formed a bond, the connection bright and instantaneous, like the flash from a camera or the shine of a stage light. Cecily Smith, with her constant mantra and bright disposition, she brought joy to not only the country, but to her favorite golden boy himself, even if she didn't feel the joy herself.

But as time wore on and changes were ever present, the two struggling to stay together despite the distance, they never did forget what they had learned during the USO tour. Steve would never forget it for as long as he lived.

Another Steve Rogers fic! Are we surprised? I'm not, and also, on the day this is published, it's actually Christmas Eve, so Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and for those who don't, I hope you are enjoying your own celebrations or just having a great time! This is a little present to me, actually, since I love Steve more than I love myself and I've had this in the works for a year now, so I might as well get it out!

Just so you guys are prepared I do write following Steve as well, because the song is sung from the guy's POV so as a result, we do see his POV but also Cecily's don't worry.

As you can see, this takes place in my Hero of Heroes series, because Rhett Reiser in here. He won't be in the actual story itself, but you'll see, he's gonna pop up and you're gonna realize how he's connected if you've read his book Past Lives. You don't have to read it before this one (in fact, read his after this, it'll make things all the more interesting) but I want ya'll to be aware.
