The last thing Josephine Fell expected to be doing on a random day of December was to be called up by her old friend Annabelle for help. She hadn't spoke to the girl in nearly 15 years, but Josephine made a vow at one point to protect the girl at any cost.
Though Anna was older than her in vampire years, Josephine still saw Anna as a little sister of sorts over their century long relationship. She knew Anna could protect herself, but she still felt like she owed the girl her help after all their time together.
And that is how she ended up wandering the halls of Mystic Falls High School, where a dance was being held in the gymnasium.
Decade dance.
Looks like the 50s, god I hated the 50s, Josephine thought to herself, looking at the students in their outfits, and rolled her eyes, as her heels clicked on the hallway floor.
"I think I'm a little underdressed." She spoke out loud to herself, with a smirk on her face before she made her way into the gym. The comparison between all of the student's bright and colorful costumes and her black skinny jeans, red lace long sleeve top and black heels were extremely noticeable.
However, she also noticed that other kids were just wearing regular clothes, like her friend Annabelle, that she was looking for and the tall brunette boy she was talking to at the snack table.
I'm guessing that's Jeremy, Josephine thought to herself while she headed toward Annabelle, sneakily avoiding Stefan and Damon Salvatore, who she could see standing on the other side of the gym with the Petrova doppelgänger apparently named Elena.
"Mind if I interrupt?" Josephine asked, as she entered Annabelle and Jeremy's conversation without permission. Annabelle turned around in annoyance at being interrupted but her face lightened up at the sight of her old friend.
"Jo!" Annabelle shouted, excitedly, as she walked towards Josephine quickly and gave her a huge hug. The younger vampire laughed at the strength of Anna's hug and squeezed back just as hard.
"Who's this?" Jeremy interrupted with a smile on his face, only slightly dazed because he had never seen Anna as excited as she was right now.
Josephine smiled at the teenage boy and offered her hand while speaking, "I'm Josephine, Anna's friend. But you can call me Jo." He smiled back at her and he shook her hand, "I'm Jeremy, nice to meet you."
"Do you mind if I borrow her for a few minutes?" Josephine asked, referring to Anna, who she gestured to with her hand, making Jeremy chuckle. "Yeah, no problem."
Josephine smiled at him politely and grabbed Anna's hand to drag her from the table and back into the hallway, again successfully avoiding the Salvatore brothers.
Luckily enough, Anna's vampire friend Noah that Josephine had met once in the 1800's, but the impression was lasting enough that she knew she wouldn't like his part in this, had been waiting in the hallway for them.
Josephine scoffed as soon as she saw his eyes roaming her body, suddenly remembering why exactly she didn't like him. "What the hell are you two idiots doing?" Josephine asked, glaring at both of them.
She had chosen to come because Annabelle said she needed help, but never actually explained why she needed the help. But Noah, Anna and the Salvatore brothers involved in one thing? It's not looking like a great plan.
"We're planning on opening the tomb." Noah spoke with that stupid smirk on his face that Josephine always hated. She looked at him with a look of disbelief on her face before turning to Anna, "Do you really think that's smart?"
"You know why I want it open, Jo. Don't act like I haven't cried to you hundreds of times over missing my mother." Anna snapped back, glaring at her friend, making Josephine sigh.
"Annabelle, I know how bad the last century has been for you, and I know you miss your mother. But do you realize how many vengeful vampires you'll be letting out? Charlotte and Frederick will burn this entire town to the ground, even the humans that are innocent. Do you not even care about that?" Josephine ranted, frantically gesturing with her hands to make a point.
"Are you sure this isn't about you wanting to keep Charlotte in the tomb to punish her?" Noah asked, still grinning from earlier, making Josephine whip around at the sound of his voice. "Did I say you could talk? Do you have permission? No, I didn't think so, shut it." Josephine snapped at him, making him glare at her, but he did stop speaking.
"Annabelle, do you know how bad the fallout of Damon is going to be when he finds out Katherine's—" Josephine is cut off by Anna, who grabs her arm and sends her a pointed look, referring towards Noah.
Josephine shook her head in annoyance, of course Noah is only doing this cause he thinks Katherine's in the tomb. When will these boys realize that girl only cares about herself, She thought to herself.
"Who gives a damn about the Salvatore brothers?" Noah spoke from his spot, he was clearly trying to get a rise out of Josephine at this point, which he was successful at.
Josephine vamp-sped towards him and grabbed his throat, slamming him against the lockers, making a huge bang as she tightened her grip on his throat. "I'm not one to mess with, Noah. It's time you learned that." She threatened, tightening her grip with each word.
"I'm sorry." Noah choked out, gasping for air, making Josephine drop him, which made the vampire fall to the floor. "By the way, as for the answer to your question. Stefan was my best friend, so I give a damn." Josephine answered, making Anna scoff.
"Didn't he, like, kill your parents?" Anna asked in a sarcastic manner, knowing damn well that Stefan was the one who murdered Thomas and Honoria Fell. Josephine chuckled to herself for a moment, before turning around, looking towards her friend.
"Well, my dad sort of deserved it. My mother on the other hand... I forgave him for that a long time ago, not that it's any of your concern." Josephine confessed, raising an eyebrow at the Zhu vampire.
Silence filled the air for a second, except for the sound of 50s music coming from the gym and Noah's labored breathing, as the two brunette vampires stared at each other.
"So, what exactly is your plan here? You need that lunatic Johnathan Gilbert's journal and a Bennett witch. Do you even have those?" Josephine asked, still sporting the raised eyebrow from earlier.
"We have a friend dealing with the Bennett witch part, we're dealing with trying to get the Gilbert journal from Jeremy Gilbert, which you interrupted me from doing." Anna answered, sending a pointed glare to her friend.
"And how exactly are you meant to do that? Because I know for a fact that Emily never wanted that tomb re-opened. She was my friend, just like you are, but I can't just ignore her wishes to help you, Anna, I'm sorry." Josephine stated, sending a sympathetic smile towards her friend, before walking away from the two vampires, her heels clicking as she departed.
☆
Josephine had found her way towards a restaurant called the Mystic Grill, as a way to waste time until she could talk to Anna again, because she really didn't want to leave on bad terms. She cared about Anna too much for that.
As she stepped into the grill, she noticed a blonde girl in a yellow dress and a brunette girl with her, who reminded her a lot of Emily Bennett. She had seen them talking to Elena earlier at the dance. Guessing that's the Bennett witch, she thought to herself, as she walked up towards them.
But before she could make her way to them, the Bennett girl stood up quickly and walked towards the bar and started talking to a bartender. From the gist of Josephine's vampire hearing, she had just asked the guy out and he said yes.
She was about to sit down at a table when she noticed a dirty-blonde teenage boy, a buss-boy to be exact, walking past the blonde girl, ignoring her, causing the blonde girl to react in annoyance.
"Seriously?" She hears the blonde girl yell at him, making the hybrid perk up in curiosity. Ooh, drama, this should be good, Josephine thought to herself with an amused smile on her face.
The dirty-blonde boy stopped and looked at her, "Is that for me?" He asked, coldly, referring to her yelling. "Do you see anyone else in the vicinity?" The blonde girl asked in a sarcastic manner.
Josephine could tell that she liked this girl already, she had spunk, it was entertaining to say the least. "Do you need something?" The dirty blonde boy asked politely, as if she was just any other customer.
Ouch, considering this is probably his girlfriend, that's cold, I like it, Josephine thought to herself, still smirking in amusement as she leaned against a wall, faking being on her phone, but listening to their conversation.
She was nosey, who cares?
"Are you mad at me or something?" The blonde girl asked. "No, Care. I'm not mad. I..." The boy started, but paused in the middle of his sentence, annoying the blonde girl.
Care... probably Caroline, she seems like a Caroline, Josephine thought.
"Well, then why are you being so weird?" Caroline asked, with an annoyed tone in her voice. "I'm not, I'm working." The boy deflected. "No, Matt. You're avoiding."
Caroline and Matt, got it. Josephine thought.
"No. I have a table to clean. You know, that's the kind of thing that washed-up jocks do to make a living." Matt answered, coldly, before walking away, leaving Caroline by herself, who sighed.
Yikes, Josephine thought while giggling to herself. She loves chaos sometimes, as long as it has nothing to do with her.
Before she could make her way to talk to Matt or Caroline, she was interrupted once again, this time by her phone vibrating in her hands.
Anna: please come back to the school, i need help dealing with noah.
Josephine read the text and shook her head in annoyance.
Jo: oh trust me, i'll deal with him one way or another.
Josephine immediately grabbed her bag off the table she was standing by and made her way quickly out of the grill before anyone could say anything to her.
Once she made it outside, she looked around to make sure there were no watching eyes and then vamp-sped back to the high school.
The second she gets into the school, she can hear the sound of running footsteps along the floor and panted breathing. She looks around the corner slowly and sees Elena, the doppelgänger, running from someone. Josephine looked in the other direction and saw Noah following her, antagonizing the poor girl.
Jesus Christ, this is all because she looks like Katherine, obsessive freak, Josephine thought to herself and rolled her eyes, but staying still. Because according to Anna, wherever danger follows Elena, Stefan and Damon aren't too far behind to protect her.
Elena rushes down a different corridor and opens the door to the cafeteria. Josephine can hear her run across the room, and try to open another set of doors, which seem to be locked from what she can hear. She can also hear Noah's heavy footsteps as he flings open another set of double doors, and she can hear him vamp-speed towards Elena and hears the girl scream.
Josephine listens and is about to make her way to help her, but she can suddenly hear groaning of Noah's, and she can tell that the doppelgänger has some fight in her to be taking on a 100+ year old vampire with relative ease.
Impressive Elena, impressive indeed, she thought to herself. Suddenly Elena screams again, but this time she hears Stefan and Damon. "Hey, dickhead. Nobody wants to kill you. We just wanna talk." She heard Damon say, making her chuckle, considering there is in fact at least one person who wants to kill him, and it's her.
Josephine vamp speeds and stands in the doorway, quietly enough to not be noticed while she watches Damon throw a makeshift stake to Stefan, who grabbed it and stakes Noah in the stomach.
She waits, just to see what he'll do, but if anyone's killing Noah, it's gonna be her. Damon walks towards Elena, Stefan and Noah so they can interrogate the vampire.
"Now you feel like talkin'?" Stefan asked, moving to stand on the side of Noah. "Screw you." Noah replied, making Josephine roll her eyes. At Noah's answer, Stefan digs the stake in deeper, making Noah groan in pain and Elena lowly gasp, not in sympathy, just shock.
"Wrong answer. Why are you doing this?" Stefan asked again, "Because it's fun." Noah replied, making Damon smile, almost in amusement, before Stefan digs the stake in a little bit more, which made Noah gasp in pain.
This catches Josephine's attention, because like mentioned before, she wants to be the one to kill him. "What do you want with Elena?" Stefan asks, causing the vampire to look at Elena as he answers. "She looks like Katherine."
Josephine rolled her eyes at this while Stefan, Elena, and Damon look shocked. Stefan took his hand off the stake and moved backwards, "You knew Katherine?" Damon asked, confused. "Oh. You thought you were the only ones." Noah began, laughing, and then gasps in pain when the stake moves while he does so.
"You don't even remember me." Noah finished, making Damon roll his eyes before he leans over towards Noah. "Tell me how to get in the tomb." Damon demands, making Noah chuckle, "No." He answered, which caused Stefan to lean back down and drives the stake in deeper, causing Noah to gasp in pain.
"The grimoire." Noah answered, making Josephine look around the room nervously, before looking out into the hallway at Anna, who was helplessly watching them torture Noah. "Where is it?" Damon asked, making Noah silent for a few seconds.
Stefan drives the stake in deeper, as Noah continues to gasp in pain. "Check the journal. The journal. Johnathan's journal. Johnathan Gilbert's." Noah ranted, answering his question.
At this answer, Damon stands up and grimaces. "Who else is working with you?" Stefan asked. Meanwhile, in the hallway, a door opens, Anna and Josephine hear this and Anna runs off before she is caught.
Josephine sees an older guy, brunette, 30s, and looks like a teacher. Crap, she thought to herself. "Who else is there?" Damon demands, catching Josephine's attention again.
"No. You're gonna have to kill me." Noah said, causing Josephine to smirk. While Damon looks at Stefan, rolls his eyes, and nods, Stefan removes the stake from Noah's stomach. But before Stefan gets a chance to even attempt to re-stake Noah, Josephine vamp speeds in front of the Salvatore brothers and lodges her hand in Noah's chest-cavity.
"If you insist." Josephine said, as Noah gasped in pain, before she pulled his heart out through his back, making him slowly fall to the ground as she held his still beating heart in her hand.
Josephine smirks at the heart in her hand before looking at the other three in the room. Elena is gasping in shock, yet looks horrified at the girl in front of her, while Damon and Stefan are staring at Josephine in shock.
"Hello boys. It's great to see you again. Did you miss me?" Josephine asked, smirking at the two while she drops Noah's heart next to his desiccated corpse. "Josephine?" Stefan questioned in disbelief, so shocked that she could literally hear his heartbeat, which was definitely beating more than it should.
Damon chuckled for a second, "Oh, look. The wicked bitch is back." He said, in greeting, making Josephine laugh in amusement. "You must be Elena, I'm Josephine. I'm a friend of Stefan's." Josephine introduced herself to the doppelgänger who looked horrified still.
"What about me?" Damon asked, offended, causing Josephine to huff out a laugh. "Come on, Damon. I thought you would've learned from all of our magical time together, I don't like you." Josephine said, honestly, making the man roll his eyes.
"What do we...how are you gonna find the others now?" Elena asked Stefan and Damon, referring to the fact that Josephine had just killed their only lead. "Josephine, what the hell are you doing here?" Stefan asked, still in shock that his old friend was here.
"I heard that you two were back in Mystic Falls, I wanted to figure out why. I see why now." Josephine answered, gesturing her head to the Katherine lookalike.
Josephine made her way to a lunch table and grabbed a napkin from the napkin dispenser, considering her hand was still covered in Noah's blood. "She just killed our only lead, Stefan." Elena said, not really in annoyance, just frustration.
"He had to die." Damon said, agreeing with the vampire's actions, making Josephine smile to herself before turning back around. "But-" Elena tried to argue, but Stefan interrupted her. "Elena, he's been invited in."
"Hey Damon, just wanted to let you know, there's a teacher lurking around out there." Josephine said, referring to who they know as Mr. Saltzman, making the man roll his eyes. "This guy is starting to annoy me." Damon said before storming out of the cafeteria, leaving Josephine with Stefan and Elena.
Stefan put his arm around Elena in a comforting manner as she fell into his chest, making Josephine smile at the action. From the minimal interaction, she can already tell that Stefan is in love with the girl and would do anything to keep her safe.
And if Stefan's anything, it's usually a good judge of character, so if he trusts Elena... well then, so does Josephine.

Josephine, Stefan and Damon were standing in the hallways of the high school. Damon and Stefan leaned against a doorway, while Josephine explained what she was doing here. Well, the untruthful version, but she genuinely does not want to be part of opening the tomb.
Whether she's on the Salvatore boys' side, or Anna's side, she doesn't want that tomb open.
"I was telling the truth, I heard you guys were back in Mystic Falls and wanted to see what was up. Apparently I came back at the right time though, considering Noah was about to kill your girlfriend." Josephine said, mostly lying but some was truthful, but the boys believed her.
"So you guys are trying to open the tomb?" Josephine asked, wanting to change the topic away from her. "No, he's trying to open the tomb. I couldn't care less." Stefan admitted, gesturing to Damon.
"All I want is Katherine." Damon explained to Josephine, making the girl nod in acceptance. "I get that, but do you realize that opening that tomb is going to let out all of those other vampires? Like Frederick... Charlotte." Josephine said, her face falling when she said her past lover's name, making Stefan look at the girl in almost pity.
"I don't care, I just want her out." Damon insisted, causing Josephine to scoff. "You are still just as reckless as you used to be. Apparently I'm the idiot for thinking you'd mature over the last 70 years, I guess I was wrong." Josephine ranted, with a smirk on her face, making Stefan smile slightly and Damon roll his eyes in annoyance.
"Speaking of idiots," Stefan began, making Josephine look at him in an offended manner, causing him to chuckle and defend himself, "Sorry, no offense." He said, making Josephine roll her eyes in a joking manner.
"But there's no way that idiot was working alone." Damon finished Stefan's original thought, peaking Stefan's interest. "You are." Stefan responded, making Damon grimace at him and Josephine laughs.
"So the grimoire...That was Emily's, right?" Stefan asked, making Josephine nod, though it was clear he wasn't talking to her. "That's what you need to reverse the spell." Stefan added, making Damon smirk and nod.
"Yeah, but when the founding families burned Emily, they took her things, and you were stupidly hoping that Guiseppe's journal would tell you where it is." Josephine said, gathering what limited information she could and making a guess, which happened to be right by the way Damon smiled, though sarcastically, at her.
"Look at you two puttin' the pieces together. Good for you. I was half-right." Damon defended himself, making Stefan and Josephine roll their eyes. "Well, it's out there now. Let the games begin." Damon insisted, making Josephine nervous.
"Guys, no offense, but I really don't think you should open the tomb." Josephine said, offering up her opinion, which Damon ignored and Stefan smiled at her in an apologetic manner before turning back to his brother.
"My offer still stands." Stefan insisted, as Josephine looked puzzled at this statement. "Yeah, with some hidden caveats, no doubt." Damon replied, making Stefan shake his head as Josephine awkwardly watched the brother's exchange in front of her.
"No. Nothing hidden about it. No lies. No deception. I'm there when you open up that tomb, you and Katherine go, and the other 27 vampires die." Stefan insisted, looking at both Damon and Josephine, hoping for agreement.
"Only if I'm the one who gets to kill Charlotte." Josephine demanded, making Stefan nod in acceptance. "Deal." He answered, before turning back to Damon.
"If I agree?" Damon asked, which Stefan already had an answer for. "I'll help you." Stefan answered, making Josephine nod in agreement. "I'll help too." Josephine offered, now on board since that means she gets to kill her treacherous ex.
"Why should I trust you?" Damon asked Stefan, ignoring Josephine. "Because I'm your brother." Stefan answered, easily. "No, that's not gonna cut it." Damon insisted, making Stefan sigh.
"Because I want you gone." Stefan answered, honestly.
Yikes, trouble in paradise, Josephine thought to herself while wincing in faux-sympathy. Damon paused for a moment, thinking if this is an actual acceptable reason to trust Stefan.
After a moment, he nodded in agreement. "Okay." Damon answered, making Stefan nod, sealing the terms to their agreement. Josephine sighed at the scene in front of her, before changing the subject.
"So... sorry to ask, but I sort of didn't really plan on being here until today. Mind if I crash on your couch?" Josephine asked the brothers, as the younger one nodded in agreement.
"I'm gonna take Elena home. Josephine, there's plenty of empty bedrooms, make yourself at home. And don't kill Damon." Stefan said, making Josephine look at Damon with a forced smile on her face.
"No promises."
"Bite me."
"Don't tempt me."
It's a joke, but unknowingly to Damon and Stefan, Josephine does actually have the ability to kill them or any regular vampire with her werewolf bite. They just assume she's a regular vampire, everyone does, but little do they know.
They have a monster on their hands, and it's not just Katherine and Charlotte they need to worry about.
Only two people in the world know that she holds the curse of a wolf and a vampire, and those two people are currently residing in New Orleans. But that's a story for another time.

I hope you guys enjoyed the first chapter, I'm very excited to expand into this story and am already starting to write the next chapter. I should have an update asap.
Also, if you're reading my teen wolf book, I'm putting that on pause for the moment and focusing on this because my motivation for that book has sort of dwindled, but hopefully I will get it back at some point.
Please interact with the story! It makes me feel like my stories are worth reading and it makes me want to continue to write.
And yes, Josephine will meet Tyler soon, I promise... :)
