2. Stuck

Weddings were never the way they made them look in the movies.

After Idalia had picked Pepper up from her apartment and taken her to where the venue was, they had both become enveloped in a human hurricane of chaos. Idalia was quickly rushed off by all the other dressed bridesmaids who were all worried that she was going to leave her husband-to-be at the altar. Pepper followed along after the tittering women as she entered the well decorated entryway of the venue. Bouquets of white and blush pink flowers greeted her face the moment she entered. They were gathered in various vases scattered about the place and strung up along the winding banisters to the second floor. Idalia and her entourage were already at the top of the carpeted stairs as Idalia turned to look back down at the gawking Pepper.

"Pepper, come on! We've got to get you ready!"

Pepper nodded her head, moving towards the staircase to walk upstairs. Once she had reached the landing, she walked down the hall to an oak door that was labeled 'bride'. Opening it, she could see that Idalia was sitting in front of a vanity by a set of floor-to-ceiling windows. Out the windows, Pepper had a perfect view into the back garden of the venue where the wedding was to be held; the whole garden looking like it had been plucked right from every girl's wildest fantasies. It was breathtakingly beautiful, but that was fitting since Idalia's love story with CEO Kim Seokjin was the same.

"You're the missing bridesmaid?"

The question from the semi-sour woman suddenly standing in front of her caused Pepper to look away from the window. The woman was caked with so much makeup that it almost made her look clownish, though it was obvious from her demeanor that no one would ever dare to tell her that. Her racoon eyes looked Pepper up and down as she stood there in her loungewear with obvious distaste, clicking her tongue as she tsked.

"Do you realize that you've put us all way behind schedule?"

"Mrs. Kim, Pepper is my childhood best friend. Please be kind to her."

"Still, she should know better than to make this day delayed..."

"She didn't make it delayed though, Mrs. Kim," said Idalia as she moved to get up from where she was sitting. "Besides, I already told Seokjin about my plan the night before so - if there should be a slight time delay - he wouldn't think I left him."

This silenced the woman as Idalia gave a warm-hearted smile, moving to toss an arm about Pepper's shoulders.

"Come on, Pepper. I'll show you where your dress is so you can get changed."

Pepper didn't say anything as she followed Idalia into a small adjoining room where a blush pink dress was hung up against the door. Idalia took it down before shutting the door, leaving the two of them in private for a moment.

"I'm sorry about Mrs. Kim. She means well," said Idalia as she handed Pepper the dress. "She just wants the best for her son is all."

"I can't believe that woman out there is about to be your mother-in-law," muttered Pepper.

"It's alright," said Idalia. "She obviously has a kind heart under that tough exterior because her son is amazing."

Pepper couldn't help but to smile as she moved into the bathroom within the room, shutting the door so she could begin changing.

"I'm really happy for you, Idalia," said Pepper as she began to change, thinking back on how Idalia and Seokjin first met.

Idalia had told Pepper her love story multiple times, and it seemed to get more romantic each time even though she didn't add any more details. Idalia had met Seokjin at a bus stop. A car had recently gone by, drenching her with rainwater. Seokjin happened to be leaving from his office to walk towards the bus stop when he saw it happen. Another car was about to splash Idalia before she could move away, so Seokjin had quickly moved to stand beside her, lowering his umbrella so it acted like a shield to protect her from getting wet any further. As 'thanks' for the save, Idalia had asked if she could buy him a coffee and the rest was, 'history from there' as Idalia always put it.

Pepper looked at herself in the bathroom mirror once she had the bridesmaid dress on, wondering once more when such a romantic, k-drama worthy moment would happen to her. She'd been waiting for it her whole life and she was at the point where she felt like she ought to just give up on it. She felt like a Prince Charming for her wasn't in the cards.

As if able to read her mind - once Pepper stepped out of the bathroom - Idalia walked over to her to give her a hug.

"You look absolutely beautiful, Pepper," said Idalia as she kept her wrapped in a hug, "And I promise you that someday your prince will come too."

'Someday he's going to show up. Maybe,' Seokjin thought as he looked at his wristwatch.

He could hear the small orchestra in the yard outside starting their warmup as guests started to arrive to fill in the seats. Jungkook had told him he'd arrive over half an hour ago and he still wasn't here. Seokjin was beginning to wonder if Jungkook was having second thoughts, but knew that his cousin wouldn't let him down.

As Seokjin looked back up from his wristwatch, an Uber car pulled up at the end of the drive. He watched as a raven-haired man clambered out of the back, waving his phone at the driver to indicate he'd pay virtually. As the Uber drove off, Seokjin watched Jungkook jog up the driveway. Jungkook came to a pause when he realized that Seokjin was standing there; a sheepish grin coming onto his face.

"Sorry I'm late."

"It's fine," said Seokjin as he looked over Jungkook's outfit, noticing that his tie was crooked.

Without asking, he reached out to fix it; Jungkook standing there and letting him as he looked past him into the backyard.

"I'm not late then?"

"No. It hasn't started yet," said Seokjin.

Jungkook nodded, watching as Seokjin pulled back after fixing Jungkook's tie. It was obvious to the elder that Jungkook was still not looking forward to being around so many strangers for an extended period of time. Clapping a hand onto Jungkook's shoulder, Seokjin caused the other to look into his eyes.

"Thank you for coming. It really means a lot to me that you're here. After all, you're not just my cousin. You're one of my best friends."

Jungkook gave Seokjin a grin, moving to clap a hand on his shoulder in return.

"Well, you're one of my best friends too," said Jungkook. "I'm happy for you that you found your person, Seokjinnie."

"You're going to find your person someday too, Kookie," said Seokjin.

Jungkook just nodded. In his family's eyes, he had met his person several times over. They had been trying to arrange his marriage to someone since he had become an adult it felt like, and each time Jungkook would find his way to gently slip out of it. It wasn't that he didn't want a family of his own someday. It was just that none of those woman ever felt right. He figured that if he were ever to meet the one, that things would just click. It would be easy.

However - the older that Jungkook got - the more he realized that nothing in life was ever easy.

Jungkook pushed those thoughts out of his mind as he followed Seokjin into the venue to prepare for the wedding that was about to happen soon.

"This is unbelievable..."

Pepper already knew she was on thin ice with the other bridesmaids and the mother-in-law to be by having shown up late at the venue, but now she would be falling right through that ice entirely.

She had been following the bridesmaids out to the backyard when she got her dress caught on a vent screw. No one seemed to notice and Pepper had been trying unsuccessfully for the last several minutes to free herself, but it seemed to be super glued there. It was to the point where Pepper feared that - if she yanked any harder - she'd rip the dress and really delay the wedding.

'I'm doing this for Idalia,' thought Pepper as she stopped tugging, crouching down to try to address the stuck dress more up close and personal.

Pepper tried to work her fingers along the edge of the vent to find the screw before slipping them underneath to try and figure out how stuck the end of her dress truly was. As she muttered under her breath whilst continuing to try to free herself, she wasn't aware of someone approaching her from behind.

"What are you doing?"

Pepper froze at the voice. She would have thought it was Seokjin's mother if the voice hadn't belonged to a male.

'Maybe it's Seokjin's father,' thought Pepper.

Before she could turn to see who it was, another hand appeared beside hers. The hand moved past hers to grab the stuck part of her dress, tugging it gently upwards The dress freed itself suddenly causing Pepper to teeter backwards until she ended up in the arms of the person who had come to help her. Together they both collapsed backwards onto their butts on the floor with an 'oof'.

Turning her head, Pepper nearly froze when she made eye contact with the man who had helped her.

'Definitely not Seokjin's father,' she thought.
