Chapter 10: The Truth Revealed

Hey guys! I finally got a chapter done for you! =D Got to say, this was a fun chapter to write, probably because part of this was partially based on some real life-ish events, though not quite as angry or desperate.

Hopefully I can get a chapter for We Belong Together done here soon too. I desperately need to write it, but as I'm sure some of you know, when I'm hot and irritable, nothing gets written. Unfortunately, the heat here is supposed to stretch at least into next week. =/ Hoping it's gone in time for my vacation in about 3 weeks.

Anyhow... enough of my babbling. Hope you enjoy it. =)

"We've got the right to choose, and there ain't no way we'll lose it. This is our life."- We're Not Gonna Take It, Twisted Sister

The girl stared at the door as Molly emerged from the kitchen. Who could be there? They weren't expecting any guests. She continued to stare anxiously as Molly finally opened the door. Admittedly, Audrey was a tad curious as to who would've showed up at this time of night unexpectedly. As the door creaked open, Audrey peered around Molly, only to have her heart sink further. Standing on the other side of the doorway were her parents.

Audrey immediately darted back into the kitchen, hoping she hadn't been seen, and her heart beating out of her chest. How did they find her? Why had they showed up in the first place? Her mind was racing, not knowing what to think, how to react to them being there. The girl was definitely angry, there was no doubt about that. She took a deep breath as she listened to the conversation...

"Quit harboring our runaway daughter," she heard her father hiss.

"Your daughter is seventeen," Molly shot back, definitely not intimidated by Lorcan. "She's free to come and go as she pleases. If she doesn't want to stay with you, then by all means she doesn't have to. She's not yours to control anymore."

"Molly... just please send her home. We have things to discuss," her mother pleaded.

"I'm not going to force her to go with you, so you can discuss whatever you need to discuss here," Molly retorted. "She's an adult now, whether you want to acknowledge that or not. What she does is none of your concern." No one spoke for a moment and she spoke again. "I'll fetch her from the kitchen, but she's not going if she doesn't want to."

Audrey turned to see Molly standing before her. Molly had the look of death on her face; Audrey knew she was livid. "Your parents are here, and if you don't take care of them, I will. And let me tell you it won't be pretty."

Audrey took a deep breath, hoping to calm herself before she walked into the impending confrontation with her parents. "This will get ugly... just thought I would warn you," she said quietly. After Molly patted her on the back, Audrey made her way back into the living room where both her parents stood, neither with very pleasant looks plastered upon their faces.

Audrey stared blankly at her parents for a few moments before speaking. "This has to be important since you actually bothered to track me down after I was gone for what... close to forty-eight hours."

"We're not here to listen to your sarcasm," Lorcan answered. "You're coming home and that's final."

Audrey looked at him and seriously began laughing out loud. "No. I don't think I will be. I'm seventeen; you haven't had a say in what I've done since February, and you surely aren't going to start now. Get the hell over it."

Fianna gasped, shocked by her daughter's crude honesty. "I don't care how old you are, young lady. You will not talk to us like that."

"Well stop being so daft and maybe I won't have to use such vile language to get my point across to you," Audrey hissed back.

"I fail to see what your point is," her father shot.

"My point is that you both are being stupid and irrational. There's no reason the Weasleys should be the ones sitting down to have dinner with my fiancé and not you. They don't like Death Eaters either, and yet they still gave him a chance to prove himself," Audrey went on, noticing Molly standing in the archway between the living room and kitchen. "It's not their job to make sure my significant other isn't a nutcase or an arse. That's your job, but you won't even give him a bloody ice cube's chance in hell!"

"I highly doubt this boy proved himself worthy of anything," Lorcan snorted. "Death Eater scum is all he'll ever be."

Molly cleared her throat as she stood next to Audrey. "Actually Draco has turned into a fine young man. The boy has ambitions, goals, and he truly does care about your daughter and her well-being. Let the past go; he's changed. You two need to drop your absolute hatred of the boy before you lose your daughter completely."

Audrey looked at Molly out of the corner of her eye. The woman had said what she had wanted to say, but maybe even better. Audrey was seriously on the verge of not caring anymore. She had never been this angry with her parents in her entire life, and she was ready to just forget them at that point. And the more she thought about it, the more she was sure that they had another reason they would never admit to as to why they didn't like Draco.

"You don't like Draco because you still wish I was with Maverick," Audrey hissed, the name bringing all the memories flooding back to her after she suppressed them after the past few years.

Maverick Zherdev. Audrey rolled her eyes at the thought of him. The Durmstrang boy she had met during her fourth year. He had been her date to the Yule Ball, and they had dated until about half-way through her fifth year. It was then that the then seventeen-year-old boy decided that she was no longer worth his time or energy. He left her without any real warning for some daft Beauxbatons girl. At the time, the girl was devastated by this, now she just laughed at the thought, although his name still sent raged spiraling through her. Her parents had been fond of him, even after the whole break up, something that enraged Audrey probably more than anything.

"That isn't true," Fianna tried to assure, but Audrey saw right through the lie.

"Whatever, that's why you guys still send him owls right?" Audrey shot back. "The real reason you don't want to even contemplate the thought of me being with someone else is because you're still stuck on the idea of me being with him. Hate to burst your bubble mother, but I'm never getting back with Maverick. Get over it."

"One of these days you're going to learn. You want to marry this disgraceful excuse for a Pureblood, fine. Just don't count on us to be there," Lorcan decided. "I could not support you making a lousy decision with your life."

Audrey felt her heart sink. Her parents really weren't going to support her? Not even the slightest bit? "You won't even give Draco the chance to prove himself?" she asked in disbelief.

"I will not repeat myself Audrey. The boy will never be worthy of you, or being a part of our family. Now get your things and let's go," Lorcan answered her.

"I'm not going with you. As far as I'm concerned, this is my home now. I'm amongst people who don't judge one other on their past," Audrey hissed. "So good day. Your invitation will be in the mail." On that note, the girl stormed out of the living room and outside, where she collapsed unknowingly into Ron's arms, sobbing uncontrollably. Once again, the girl couldn't help but feel like the world was against her once again; the Weasleys were the only ones there supporting her and it wasn't their job.

"Um... are you okay?" a very confused Ron asked her, hugging Audrey back, although he wasn't exactly sure why.

"No," Audrey answered quietly. The two friends sat down on the swing in the backyard, so Audrey could better explain why she was so upset. After briefly explaining what happened through tear-stricken eyes, Audrey finally concluded, "I don't know what to do anymore Ron. Nothing I do is good enough."

Ron frowned. "I dunno Audrey. It seems as if your parents are being complete gits about it. Don't worry, though. You have us. You know mum will always let you stay with us if you need to."

"I know Ron... I just don't want to put any more pressure on your family than I already have," Audrey said. "And right now, it's looking like I'll need more from them than I originally intended."

Ron didn't speak for several moments, as if he was deep in thought. "Well what do you mean by that?"

Audrey bit her tongue, afraid to ask what she needed to. "Do you think your parents would be able to 'give me away' at the wedding? Since my parents are completely inept?"

"I think my parents would be more than happy to," Ron answered. "But for now don't worry about it. We'll cross that bridge when it comes." He paused for a moment. "When is the wedding anyway?"

Audrey shrugged. "No idea. Draco and I haven't discussed dates yet. But believe me; you'll be invited."

Ron smiled, but before he said anything, their conversation was broken by a shriek. "Audrey! When did you get here?!"

Both of them looked up to see Krystie standing in the doorway. Audrey knew then that this day was only going to get crazier as it went on.
