Chapter 2: Pack a bag, change my life
"Dad?" I whisper. "DAD!" I scream as I run out the door, tears streaming down my face. I chase the hovercar the presidents guard used to take my dad away. Soon it's just a dot up ahead in my vision.
If we don't have dad, we lose our main income. Then we won't be able to pay any of our air bill, they take us out of our house and cut our oxygen. We'll be forced to live on the streets, slowly dying of the poisonous air that has become our atmosphere. I couldn't let that happen to my mom, or Jason who is only just starting his adult life, or poor Kelli who only has had 8 years to live. I had to go after them. I had to get Dad back.
I stood at my very tallest height of 5 feet 3 inches and grabbed at my backpack Mom had stored away for the summer. "Going somewhere?" A voice said from behind me. I jumped. Jason stood there, an amused little smirk dancing on his face that made him look infuriating. "There is no way I'm letting you risk your life." He says.
"Shut up Jason!" I grumbled and made a grab for the bag now dangling in his hands. Totally not fair that he was a whole foot taller than me.
"I know what you're thinking and I'm saying no." He said. "You're only 13, if anyone was going, it would be me."
I walked away. Just turned around and walked to my tiny attic bedroom. I wanted him to think I'd given up, but I started laying things on my bed despite what he said. A change of clothes, extra oxygen mask, my art things, the little money I had, and some food pills. When I heard Jason go to sleep, I snuck out to the closet and grabbed my pack, stuffed it, and ran away as far as I could away from my house and towards my dad.
