chapter 25
-
IT HAD BEEN TWO WEEKS since the incident involving Drew Marshall. All of the paperwork with the sheriff's department was filed and everything regarding the whole event was over with. Alexandra was finally getting back to her old self. The bruises were a fading into a light yellow color, and her sling had been removed for around a day. The doctor said she was healing up excellently, which was probably due to the leftover trace of vampire blood in her system. She was just getting in the groove of serving and slinging beers at Merlotte's again.
Alex also had went through two weeks of extensive and painful training with Jason. Almost every morning or afternoon they would go to the backyard and Jason would basically repeatedly kick her ass in their fights. He would jump scare her on a daily basis, and she never failed to let out a squeal. She was getting better at expecting it, even if she was still physically hurting.
Another thing Alex had dragged herself into, was vampsitting Jessica Hamby almost every night she was off of work. It wasn't a terrible way to spend most of her night. Sometimes Alex did get annoyed seeing as the red headed teenager never stopped talking. Being around Eric and Pam from dusk till dawn had made her a bitch, in her opinion. She did manage to keep her quiet for a few hours while Alex curled her hair or did her makeup. Alex took it upon herself and Eric's credit card to go shopping and buy the baby vampire some new clothes, that didn't make her look like a porn star.
Though, Pam didn't like them so much, so Jessica was back to wearing leather and latex.
On this particular night, Jessica had her hair done up in pigtails. She was wrapped in a lace corset dress and boots that made their way up to her lower thigh, a choker was wrapped around her throat and she had a smirk painted on her face. Alexandra was sitting at Eric's desk with her feet propped up, a beer was in her hand. She had gotten there just as the sun had set, thanks to the car Eric had sent for her right after her afternoon shift at Merlotte's. Jessica was positioned in the armchair across from Alex, her eyes never leaving the blonde's.
"You binked!" The redhead laughed, pointing her finger excitedly. Alexandra slammed her beer down in a playful manner, crossing her arms at the vampire.
"Fuck!" She clapped her hands together, "I can never beat you at anything. It's getting old, Jess." Alexandra slowly let her feet down from the desk, leaning her elbows on the light wooden surface. She could feel Jessica's eyes on her and before she knew it Jessica was right in front of her. Alexandra didn't jump, she just backed away slowly, sinking into her seat.
Jessica rolled her eyes, "relax, I ain't gonna hurt you. Even if I wanted to Bill commanded me not to. I'm just curious why Eric likes you." She knew she had said the wrong thing by the way Alex's face twisted in confusion. "No, no not like that. You're real pretty, it's just he doesn't really seem to like anybody at all for that matter. Especially humans." Jessica sat on the edge of the desk and tilted her head slightly, analyzing the blonde.
Alex pondered for a moment. Usually whenever she asked Eric that question, he would just say, 'you're extremely special,' or 'I haven't known anyone quite like you in a very long time.' Which wasn't a terrible answer, it sufficed and made her feel extraordinary.
"I guess it's because I ain't fully human. I'm psychic as far as I can tell. There is just something about Eric though, I can see it in his eyes that behind all of his meanness that he has love just like anybody else. Believe me we didn't have the very best introduction." Alexandra smiled as she remembered how uncomfortable she was during their first few meetings. Jessica let go of her bratty attitude for a few moments and she could see the curiosity perk in the young vampire.
"You're psychic? Well prove it! Um, tell me my little sister's name?" Apparently that was all she had taken away from Alex's speech, but it was just fine to Alex cause she could see a light in Jess's eyes that she had never seen before.
Alex smirked and held out her hand, watching as the redhead slowly placed her hand on top of hers. Alexandra closed her eyes, focusing on Jessica's past. The word 'sister' repeatedly ran through her brain until an image popped up of a young girl. She was a beautiful young lady, she couldn't have been much older than ten. She could hear in the back of her mind a faint name, so she let go of her freezing cold hands and opened her eyes.
"Eden Hamby." Alex stated with a small smile on her face. Jessica's eyebrows shot up to her hairline and she grinned wickedly, "that's so cool!" She was like a little girl in a candy shop, and the way she was leaning towards Alex made the blonde feel like she was going to ask her more questions, but thankfully the door swung open, revealing Pam and Eric.
"Hate to interrupt girl's night, but we have an errand to run." Eric raised his eyebrows at the scene before him, Jessica's grin slowly fell and she hopped off the desk with an eye roll. Alex hopped up from Eric's chair and made her way over to him.
Pam had to suppress the roll of her own eyes as she watched her maker and his human eye-fuck for the millionth time in the past two weeks. It wasn't that Pam absolutely hated Alexandra, she found the human to be remarkably less annoying than most, and she wasn't bad on the eyes either. It was that Eric was completely monogamous with her. She shivered at the thought of him not having any other lover, or not partaking in any certain activities with random women or men. Pam had tried to get him to feed from another human the night Alexandra had went shopping just to get some fresh new blood pumping through his veins but he declined flat out.
She hated to say it, but she was jealous. She had been with Eric for more than a century, and never seen him so head over heels for anyone other than her. It wasn't a romantic connection they had, although the first year Eric had turned her, they did experiment with each other. Then, after Pam had gotten a taste for women she rarely went back, only every decade or so was she seen with a male companion, and even then it lasted for two weeks or so.
She had decided that his relationship with the blonde would only last a few months, until he grew tired and killed her or just kept her around for business. Pam had to admit, Alex was useful to an extent. But, until that day arrived, she would absolutely still flirt with her. What was the point in having a beautiful woman around and not playing her cat and mouse games?
"So what errands are we running? I need to stretch my legs anyway. Pam I love your outfit, by the way, it's classic." Alexandra complimented the vampire, breaking her train of thought. Pamela gave her a smile, flashing her fangs, "why thank you, Princess." It was pure sarcasm she pulled out just for Eric's amusement.
"The car's waiting out front." Was the only response she got from Eric, which was alright because he waited until Pam and Jessica walked out of the room before devouring her lips in a single breathtaking kiss that made Alexandra almost beg for more. He shot her a devilish smirk, grabbing her hand and leading her out of his office and into the backseat of his jet black BMW.
-
When Eric had finally parked, Alex looked up from her text conversation with Hoyt to discover they were outside of Bill's house. Eric, being the chivalrous man he is, opened her door and took her hand to lead her on Bill's front porch. Alex didn't have to question while they were there, Jessica had been with them for almost a whole month and it was clear Pam and Eric were at their wits end. On the days Alexandra had to work nights and couldn't vampsit, Eric would drone on and on about how he was an inch away from snapping and sending her back to Bill Compton.
Alexandra could hear the faint sound of a piano playing from inside the house and as Eric opened the door, it became clear that Bill was playing. The playing soon came to a halt and a shocked look appeared on his face as Jessica stormed in and took a seat on his velvet couch.
"Hi Daddy." She griped, giving him a sarcastic smile. Bill stood from his piano bench to look back at Jessica and then at Eric, "what is this?"
"There are favors and there are favors," Eric huffed, raising his eyebrow at the baby vampire who pursed her lips and crossed her arms. Pam pointed at the baby vampire, rudely stating, "she is extremely annoying."
Alex looked at Jessica and rolled her eyes, mouthing a simple 'no' to make the teenager feel a little better.
"We had a deal, you can't do this." Bill scrunched his nose up, flailing his hands towards the redhead.
"Well, now the terms have changed. She's yours, unless you want to fight over it?" With a swift click, Eric's fangs appeared and Alex's grip on his cool hand tightened. Bill's fangs popped out and Pam rolled her eyes for the second time, knowing her maker was only showing off in front of his girlfriend. "It's just a suggestion, though a few nights with this one may change your mind." Eric chuckled and nodded his head towards Jessica who looked as though she was having a simply wonderful time.
Eric turned to leave, gently tugging on Alex's hand for her to follow. "Go on, I think I'll stay here and help her adjust. I'll see you tomorrow, though?" The blonde vampire glanced at Bill and then back to Alex, giving her a nod as he retracted his fangs. He leaned down, placing a gentle yet forceful kiss upon her lips. Alex returned the kiss with a hum and watched as he followed Pam out, but not before saying something to Pam in his native language which made her giggle. The door shut with a slam and Alexandra turned back around to face Bill, a sympathetic look upon her face.
"Man, I've gotta learn Swedish." She sighed awkwardly. Bill gave her a fake smile, obviously upset over the load that Eric had dumped on him. He turned to Jessica with the same smile, hoping to reconcile with the teenager.
The click of her fangs echoed off the wall, "So, who's good to eat around here?"
Bill hopelessly and dramatically, threw his arms in the air and looked towards Alex with a small smirk on his face. Alexandra sat her bag down on the piano bench and motioned for Bill to sit down, "look, Jess is a good kid-uh-vampire. I've had the pleasure of watchin' her on the nights I don't work and we've had fun. I just think you two need to, y'know, reconnect! Like Bill, you can try to be patient and Jessica you can try to listen to your maker, huh? Maybe if you do good and do what your supposed to I can come over and hang out sometime?" She suggested and both of them looked towards Bill for some kind of reaction.
"Alexandra she is not a regular teenager you could 'hang out' with, she is vampire. She is dangerous," Bill stopped talking due to the look on Jessica's face. Alex sighed, sitting down across from the two. She thought for a moment and nodded.
"Okay, I respect whatever you say Bill. Just for tonight let me sit down and mediate while you two talk out rules. I promise I won't say a word unless either of you want me to, plus I don't wanna go home yet. You're not gonna kick out your girlfriend's big sister, are you?" Alex gave him a toothy smile and watched as he let out an unnecessary sigh.
"You can stay." He smiled appreciatively, standing up from his seat. He walked over to the fireplace, grabbing the poker from it's spot and threw on an extra log to make the temperature for Alexandra more comfortable.
"Your bedtime will be 4 am and not a minute later." He spoke and Jessica frowned, "whatever." Alex's lips quirked up, knowing that Eric put her in the spare coffin an hour earlier than that.
"And whilst you are under my roof, hunting is completely forbidden." He gave her a pointed stare and she scoffed, "like I'd even know where to find anybody in this bumfuck town. Are we even in a town?" She turned to Alex with a raised eyebrow. The blonde chuckled and nodded.
"And we also recycle in this house, Tru Blood and other glass items go in the blue container. Paper products go in the white container." Bill held up two containers and wiggled them to gain her attention. He was about to speak again when his phone rang, earning the attention of both people in the room. Bill pulled his cellphone from his pocket and before he flipped it open Jessica spoke, "ooh, can I have one of those?"
"No." He flipped it opened and walked into the foyer, leaving Alexandra and Jessica alone for a few moments.
"Sweetheart, you just gotta adjust. Bill is a little strict but I'm sure if you comply and earn his trust, you could probably get a cellphone." Alex nodded at her own statement, earning a glare from Jessica. There were moments when she was vampsitting where she was a complete nightmare, but other times, just like in Eric's office just a mere hour ago, where Jessica could be super sweet and eager to learn more. It's just gonna take some time, Alex thought.
"Jessica, I have a guest coming over shortly," Bill started before the teenager interrupted him, "can we eat her?" She grinned.
"You may not." Bill bit the inside of his cheek, trying to keep calm as the younger vampire huffed.
Jessica was curious, "well who is she? Is it Alex's sister? Is she your girlfriend?" Bill glanced at Alex, who was watching the two with an amused smirk on her face.
"Yes." He shortly answered.
"Is she a vampire?"
"No."
"Well do I have to be nice to her?" Jessica knew she was getting under his skin, which made her feel a little better. Bill was obviously annoyed, he pinched the bridge of his nose. "I need you to go upstairs and get cleaned up. Take off your makeup and make yourself look presentable, I will not have you looking like a slattern."
"A what?" Jessica and Alex questioned in unison, making Bill seemingly uncomfortable.
"A lady of the evening." He cleared his throat and the two girls looked at each other.
"Awesome!"
"Sweet!"
Alexandra stood as she watched Jessica run up the stairs, "I have some clothes from highschool she can have. It's mostly t-shirts and jeans, a few sundresses. I'll run over to the house and grab them for you." She gave him a smile and grabbed her purse.
"Thank you Alex, that would be much appreciated." Bill gave her a warm smile and watched as she made her way to the door, "I am sorry that you kept this secret from Sookie, I'm sure it will come up sometime tonight or tomorrow."
"Eh, don't worry about it. She might be mad at us for a couple of days but, it's alright, nothing she won't forgive us for. I'll be back in twenty." Alex clapped him on the shoulder and walked out, following the lighted path to her house.
-
After Alexandra had packed up practically a whole closet full of old t-shirts, jeans, shorts, and dresses she decided it probably would be the best for her to drive over so she wouldn't risk dropping Jess's new clothes in the mud. She packed her car with three large cardboard boxes and snatched a cigarette from its pack. She slowly drove over to Bill's house just in time to see Sookie storm out of the house.
Alex inhaled deeply, getting her last drag out of the tobacco stick when she slammed her door shut. She walked over to Sookie who was waiting for her with her arms crossed. Alexandra held her hands up in defense, "I wanted to say somethin', but it wasn't my business to tell, Sook."
Sookie rolled her eyes and pursed her lips, "I'm not worried about that right now, but believe me, we will talk about it. What I'm worried about is the dead body I just saw in Sam's parkin' lot."
Alex froze and raised her eyebrows, "What? Who was it? What happened?" Death surrounded Bon Temp like flowers around a grave. Her heart thumped in her chest as Sookie shrugged slightly, "I don't know who the poor woman was. Tara must have though, apparently it was the woman who gave her and Lettie Mae their exorcism."
Alex pulled out the pack of cigarettes from her pocket and lit another one, she blew the smoke out of the side of her mouth and shook her head at the tragedy. Her ears perked up when Sookie spoke again, "is there any change Eric or Pam could have-"
Alex looked up and raised her eyebrows at her younger sister's accusation, "Sookie you've got to get over this. I've been with Eric, Pam, and Jessica since the sun set." Her tone was soft, but her eyes were fiercely protecting her boyfriend, his progeny, and even the baby vampire. Sookie gave her a small smile and nodded, watching as she flicked her cigarette butt into the cemetery just across the dirt road.
"Well we can talk more if you want to head on home, I brought some clothes over for Jess. I was just gonna drop them off." Alex grabbed one of the boxes and glanced at Sookie who nodded, "m'kay, see you at the house."
