chapter fifteen - support
The thick recycled air of the airplane hung humid around us as the quiet murmur of people begins to die off, our nighttime flight coming in handy. Any piercing wails of children had been quietened down and the stewardesses had settled, done serving any food or drink. The lighting had been dulled down as it got darker outside and now, only personal lights remained on.
Our seats were paid for by management and the open-top cube's that we were each sat in had everything we could possibly need for the whole thirteen hour flight we had in front of us. TV's, charging ports and free WiFi kept everyone entertained but I didn't need any of it. The hottest guy I've ever seen was currently working his heart out beside me and he was mine to call my own as I ogled his good looks.
"No John, I need it for Tuesday. Filming needs to start in two months and we can't start without the proper equipment. You understand right?" Theo stresses, running a hand through his hair as he stares at the sheet in front of him.
Voices grumble in the background and I try to hide a laugh when Theo sighs once more - the conversation running away from his control by the looks of it. But, I keep myself under control as I remind myself that we're not completely alone. All that's separating me and a nosy stranger is an aisle and their cube wall. Theo and I removed the screen separating both of us, however, as we want to enjoy each others company for as long as we can.
Sitting in first class, Theo and I's seats miraculously ended up beside each other. Reassured with the security of our private seats, both Theo and I relaxed a bit as people minded their own business. We were in the middle of our flight on the way back from Tokyo and Theo was in full business mode.
"Yeah, can we do that, then? We need this sorted for PJ to use next week." Theo says, looking up to the computer screen that is currently face-timing four other main producers of the film.
Half an hour of stressful conversations later, Theo signs off as he shuts his laptop with a definitive click before turning around to me. Reaching his hand over the minimized divider, he holds his hand out. Taking it in my own, I give it a reassuring squeeze.
"I need a nap." He groans, running his other hand through his hair.
"Yes, you do." I smile gently, taking in his tired brown eyes.
Leaning over, I swipe my thumbs under his eyes before leaning back, resting my head against the head rest.
"Good night." Theo mutters, copying my position. But he keeps our hands joined, even as we lean back.
"Good night, I love you." I whisper.
"I love you more." Theo grumbles back, tiredness visibly sweeping over him as his eyes fall shut.
And before I can even argue against his words, my eyes shut too as weeks of stress and filming begin to catch up on me. The plane carries us further into the night. Roaming out across thousands of miles, Theo and I's hands stayed joined as my dreams take me further away from stress than any plane ever could.

"I can't believe you found a place." I shake my head in disbelief, looking through the photos that Clara took of her new apartment.
"I tell you, once I'm alone in an apartment, I can actually be productive." Clara says, leaning over my shoulder to see the photos too.
The morning after our flight back from Tokyo, Emma made us both breakfast as she explained that she's now found a flat. Moving over to sit on the sofa, Emma sits beside me as she describes the plans. Her eyes are alight with happiness and I feel myself bursting with pride for her.
Moving on from her shitty relationship, she's now got a new place and she seems like the girl I knew was there. She's just been buried for a while under pain, but she's back and I know she is as she bounces with excitement beside me.
"So when can you move in?" I ask, a ripple of sadness going through my chest as I yet again realise I'm not going to a have a roommate anymore.
"In two weeks. The sellers really want it sold and I'm willing so why not." Clara shrugs before taking both of my hands in hers. "I am going to really miss living with you, though. I just feel like I need a fresh start without him, you know?"
I pull her into a hug. "I know." I say, my words muffled by our hug.
Splitting apart, I smile at her. "You know you've got to pack now."
"Ugh, don't remind me." Clara says, shuddering at her dislike of packing.
"We'll make it into a party, don't worry about it." I smile, already pulling out my phone to text Isadora.
"Do we have to start now?"
"Yes, two weeks isn't long. Plus the only time you'll get to pack is at the weekends - you're too busy doing weird chemistry to pack during the week."
Clara rolls her eyes and mutters something about it not being weird before standing up. Locating the random boxes that we keep under our sink for substitutes to plastic bags, I stand up with one in each hand and walk into Clara's room.
It's messy as usual and we spend the first half an hour talking and laughing whilst trying to sort stuff out. Isadora arrives as we finally sort it out and she sighs at our lack of packing so far.
"She distracted me!" I blame, pointing at Clara who lies on the bed.
"Of course she did. Now go get your ass into the kitchen and make us some margaritas." Isadora instructs, holding up a bottle of tequila.
"Okay." I agree eagerly.
I make the drinks quickly and Isadora and Clara join me in the kitchen, both sitting on top of the counter.
Leaning against the opposite ones, I stand facing them as we drink. The talk flows and before I now it, we're onto our third drink.
"So, I think we should go out." Isadora shrugs, finishing her drink.
"I'm so in."
"Me too."
Grinning at each other, the clothes that were previously put away are ripped out as we find outfits to wear on our spontaneous outing. Isadora and Clara find dresses quickly and move through to the kitchen to put on their shoes. Taking a mirror picture of my black shimmery jumpsuit with spaghetti straps and heels, I send it to Theo and his response comes immediately.
Theo: Damn, who's that gorgeous girl? Please stay safe xx
Grinning at my screen, I barely keep myself together at his sweet words. Sometimes it just hits me more - the fact that somehow I've ended up with a guy as amazing as him. Isadora walks into the room as I stare at the screen, she rolls her eyes in exasperation.
"God, you're so lovey-dovey, how did I miss this?" She mutters before walking back out.
Laughing behind her, I follow her out to see Clara smoothing down her dress, as her endless legs stem out from her figure hugging dress.
"Damn we're hot, let's go, ladies." I cheer, making my way to my front door.
The paparazzi are minimal outside of my apartment, thankfully. Our luck doesn't seem to stretch as far as the bar, however, as fifteen paps stand outside the door way - looking around the street eagerly as our taxi pulls in. Thanking the driver and paying him, all three of us step out one by one, met with a wave of shouts and calls.
"Look over here!"
"Missing Noah? Theo? Have you decided?"
"What about the show?"
"Are you being replaced?"
Grabbing onto both Isadora and Clara's hands, Isadora leads the way into the bar. We're met with silence and I look up to see people in the bar looking outside fearfully. Clearing my throat, the all turn to luck at us three.
"Sorry about that, they should fade now."
I get a few nods and even hear a thank god. After the acknowledgement of my announcement, the bar returns to normal and I welcome the buzz in the air with open arms. Making my way over to where the drinks are being served, I order drinks whilst Isadora and Clara search for a free table.
"Here you go." The bar tender says, making consistent eye-contact with me as he sets down the drinks.
Shiver run down my spine as I pick them up, eager to get away. "Thanks."
Making my way across the room to the table Isadora and Clara managed to find, I sit down with a grimace on my face and Clara picks up on it immediately.
"What's wrong? Did something happen?" She ask, taking a ip of her drinks.
"That bartender is a weirdo, next round is on one of you two." I smile sweetly.
"Yeah, I would stay away," Isadora says, leaning slightly to get a good view of the guy. "I think you've got the better one."
"And you're telling this just by looking." Clara asks incredulously.
"She's right either way." I shrug, taking a sip of my drink.
"In all areas?" Isadora asks, her nosiness on full display.
"All of them." I laugh.
"Damn, well done you." Isadora says as she quietly claps.
"I know." I laugh before trying to change the subject. "I can't believe you're moving out, Clara."
"I know, but our set-up was only temporary. I feel like I need a new start." She smiles at me, before grabbing my hand in hers. "I am going to miss you, though. We made bad-ass roommates."
"Hell yeah we did." I agree, squeezing her hand.
"I'll miss your pancakes, even though Theo's are better." Clara says and I playfully hit her shoulder, my mouth wide in shock.
"I'm not getting into this," I say, standing up from the table. I look over to the bar to see that there's a different bartender on and make my decision. "More drinks?"
"Hell yes, keep them flowing." Isadora cheers, reaching over and downing hers before handing me her glass.
I shake my head and laugh but grab her glass, nonetheless. I go over to the crowded bar that overloads my senses with less than favorable sensations and order the next round of drinks. Before I know it, all of them have rolled into one and I'm feeling light-headed, my body fizzing with the effects of a few too many drinks.
"I think we should go." Isadora hiccups as she furrows her eyebrows in annoyance at her empty glass.
"Ugh, I just wanna stay here and drink, please." Clara groans.
"I can see the camera's outside." I warn, seeing moving shadows streak across the dark window of the bar.
"I'm gonna go tell them to fuck off." Isadora states, abruptly standing up from her chair. The sound of it screeches across the room that's still as full as when we arrived. Maybe even fuller after the news of our girls night broke out across the media.
"No, you're not." I giggle, latching my hand onto Isadora's wrist and pulling her back down onto her seat. "We're going to calmly get out of here and head home."
"I'll call my driver." Isadora suggests.
A bolt of insecurity flows through me in my vulnerable state as I realise her driver would take time - time that the paparazzi would use to gather more people.
"Don't. We'll just get a taxi, they're out there anyway." I say, squinting through the shadows and the darkness to see the usual beacons that are New York taxis.
"I don't care what we do, lets just get out of here." Clara says, perking up as her inexperience with the paps shines through.
"Fine, let's just get a taxi." Isadora gives in, grabbing her bag from under the table.
Collecting ourselves, we assemble into figures that slightly resemble the put together people we were four hours ago. I laugh as I stumble, looping my arm through Clara's for extra support. Making our way out, sounds are blurred as voices blend together. Voices pressing for information that light my veins in fire as I clench one of my hands in frustration - sick of people harassing my friends and I just so they can get a headlines.
Finally making it into the peace of the taxi, I sit opposite Isadora and Clara with my back to the driver. Giving my address and sitting down with a sigh, I strap the seat-belt over my chest and buckle myself in, ready to get home and get away from the nightmare outside.
"I wish Theo was here, man I miss him." I groan, leaning my head back.
"Theodore Williams, Alexandria Wood's dream man." Clara sings, giggling at the end.
"He so is. Man, I really hope you guys meet someone who you love as much as I love him." I say, shutting my eyes.
"I'm good without all the sappy stuff in my life, thank you very much." Isadora drawls. I peek an eye open to see her rolling her eyes and when she catches my eye, I roll my eyes back - setting her off in hysterical laughter.
The streets are navigated easily by our driver and even though the journey took longer than I expected, I put it down to my slightly tipsy body. Thanking the driver, I leave the taxi and make my way inside my apartment, embracing the cooler air in comparison to the hot humid air that I was just in.
"This was fun, girls." Isadora beams as she makes her way inside. Quite literally face-planting into my sofa, her next words are muffled by the material. "Please leave me here, I'm never going to move."
"Goodnight." Clara calls, shutting her bedroom door behind her, a room that isn't going to be hers for much longer, sadly.
"I'll see you in the morning." I whisper to Isadora, only to be met by silence.
Pouring a glass of water, I tip-toe to my room. Annoyed with the thought of having to wash my face, I simply drag my body out of my dress before changing into Theo's t-shirt that I've stolen and won't give it back. It's over-sized and navy and when Theo's scent washes over me as I drag it over my head, I almost shiver in delight of my new-found comfort.
Lying down in bed, I pull my comforter over me and reach for my phone, clicking on my most-used contact. It rings and rings and when I'm just about to give up, Theo answers.
"Gorgeous, it's very late." Theo groans, his love for sleep being interrupted by my phone call.
"I know. But I love you." I say simply, shutting my eyes to the sound of his groggy, sleep-ridden voice.
"I love you too. I'm guessing the night with Isadora and Clara went well?" He asks.
"Yeah, I love those girls too. Not as much as you, though. But yeah, it was fine." I smile.
"Good. Now you're probably going to suffer in the morning, so have you got water beside you?"
"Yep. Wow, I'm so prepared."
"Good, now get some sleep. We'll talk in the morning, I love you." Theo says, using his soothing voice that I know all too well.
"I love you too, goodnight." I say, before hanging up.
Switching my phone off, my brain swirls around plans of keeping our relationship safe. But as my eyes drift shut, my last thoughts are of how lucky I am.
