chapter thirty - determined

Heavenly bliss consumes me. Golden uplifting spirits surround me. Happiness glides through my veins as my body comes back into its surroundings. Slow, even breaths of air soothe my chest as my eyes remain shut, unwilling to open, scared of real life shattering the serenity that my mind and body are currently entrapped in.

My arms tighten around Alex's waist as her long blonde hair tickles the bottom of my chin. I can hear her giggles as I groan, realizing she's been talking to me and I haven't been listening. Peeking one eye open I'm greeted by the sight of Alex lying on my chest, a grin stretched across her gorgeous face as she looks up at me. Blue eyes entice me to open both of mine and when I look at her, blinking slowly, my ears play catch-up with my eyes.

"You haven't been listening have you?" Alex asks.

Rolling us over so that my head lays on her chest, I groan and shut my eyes. "It's too early to do anything."

"It's eleven in the morning and we haven't had breakfast yet. We need to eat." Alex murmurs, playing with my hair.

"We went to bed at three am. We've got excuses." I grunt, my voice muffled.

Alex's silence confuses me so I look up to see her cheeks flushed, a daring look across her face. "That was your fault."

"Included both of us, though. You were happy to comply." I defend, any reserves that I usually have blocked by my brain's inability to think stuff through when I've just woken up.

Alex scoffs and pushes my shoulders. Rolling over so we lie shoulder to shoulder, I grab her hand in mine as she talks. "Hope you enjoyed it because that's all you're getting if you're just going to rub it in my face."

Even against my morning mood, a quite laugh passes my lips as I kiss the back of her hand. Turning my head to look at her I discover her already there, watching me. Heat across my chest spreads and I find myself tightening my hand around hers as the need to take her into my arms for the foreseeable future becomes consuming.

"I'll treasure every moment." I nod, shutting my eyes again.

I hear Alex laugh again and feel her sit up on the bed. "I forgot how sassy you are in the morning. I think you're forgetting who you're dealing with. Watch yourself."

I grab her wrist to stop her from completely getting out of bed. She lands on top of my chest with an oomph and I sigh, besotted with the woman in my arms. Tilting her chin upwards so she can see me, I lay a kiss onto her lips. A soft one that probably affects me more than her, so I pull away after a few indulgent moments, grappling with control.

"I love you." I murmur.

"I love you, too. Even though you just changed the subject, I know what you're doing, Williams."

Holding my hands up in surrender, Alex laughs before getting up. Our day together remains inside of her apartment. We watch a film and throw our healthy eating out of the window when we make meals suitable for kings. After taking a nap and winning a board game I feel so content that all I need is a dinner together to complete the happy day.

Alas, we cannot have that. Another red carpet even has landed and Alex and I's appearance there is crucial. It's a summer blow out for the TV company that Queries is shown on. There's about five different series's invited and I know that the main cast of every one is already coming.

It's been a week since our interview with Marlene and the media has gone crazy. The positive view of it are just out weighing the negative ones. The articles proving that we're together have become helpful for Alex and I, ironically. Although everybody didn't get to see it, people are on the edge of their seats waiting for the official episode.

Even the pap that I nearly lost it at during filming has released footage - putting my foul mood and the article about Alex together into another piece of evidence. As people slowly come around to the idea of our relationship, our phone's have been going mental with notifications from friends, family and a lots of companies wanting to do deals. We've rejected most of them as that's not what our relationship is for but it's still good to have them as if the right offer does arrive.

This is the first red carpet that Alex and I have done since we've announced our relationship and the anticipation is high across the media. We're walking it together but that's still unknown to all the fans and media. The pressure is mounting around us but I'm determined to stay as calm as possible. We called off the help to get us ready, wanting more time together. Alex's dress and my suit have already been dropped off so we begin to get ready later on in the evening, despite how much I don't want to.

Dressed in a black suit, I begin to tie my blue tie as I stand in front of the mirror. My dark hair is messy as usual, with random curls poking out, but it looks more contained than usual. Putting on a watch, I walk out to see Alex sitting on the sofa doing her make-up.

"How are you doing?" I ask, coming over and sitting beside her.

She turns and looks me up and down before groaning and kissing me. Complying with no second thoughts, I grab her hands and pull her closer, losing myself in her. All of her, every single inch that I'm obsessed with. She pulls away abruptly and looks me up and down once more.

"Dammit, you look good." She huffs.

I laugh and avert my eyes, taking in her make-up. "You look gorgeous. You don't need all of this stuff, though."

"Bullshit and you know it. The paparazzi cameras are getting creepily good and I need to be flawless."

"You already are." I murmur, standing up and kissing her head before going through to the kitchen, followed by the sound of Alex's disbelief.

Walking back through with bottles of water for both of us, I hum at the chaos around her. Make-up supplies overwhelm her and her outifit choices lie on the arm chair opposite her. Taking a seat on the other arm chair, I observe her with my head tilted. My realisation comes at the same time as Alex's confusion.

"What?" She asks, looking up from applying mascara.

"This is why you're always late." I quietly laugh, leaning back against the chair with a smug look on my face.

"You're so fucking cocky. I'm fine okay. I just need to do half of my make-up and get changed. I already know what I'm going to choose as well." Alex smiles up at me, pride in her tone.

I nod thoughtfully before checking my watch to make sure my suspicions were correct. "And you're going to do all of that in five minutes? 'Cause that's when Noah and Isadora are coming around."

The light of smugness in Alex's eyes flickers out like a bucket of cold water has been thrown over it. She lets out a growl of frustration before picking up where she left off with a hard look on her face.

She barely looks up as she murmurs, "You need to stop distaracting me."

I sense her fustration and nod, laughing, knowing that hovering would just make her stressed out situation worse. Luckily, her door goes and I open it to find Isadora and Noah, already dressed, standing waiting. Briefing them of the situation, Isadora pushes my shoulder and sashay's through, her experience on full show as confidence to make this work oozes out of her.

"How are we always stuck waiting?" Noah groans, walking into the kitchen with me. "It's like the universe is twenty minutes behind me."

"Beats me. Pretty sure you would just be twenty minutes ahead, but sure." I shrug, standing opposite him.

We stand and chat for ten minutes before moving through to the living room. The girls moved into the mist of the bedroom and haven't been seen since, their appearance hidden by the shut door. Finally, ten minutes later, it opens and Isaora walks out looking smug.

"Went well I suppose?" Noah drawls.

"Better than your face." Isaodra shoots back and a smirk pulls at my lips.

Opening the door, Alex steps out look stunning. Her figure is emphasised by the black fabric of the dress and her hair is up, leaving me in clear view of her blue eyes. I'm taking her into my arms before I can even process it, my body acting as a servant to my hearts desires.

"You look so incredible." I whipser, our foreheads touching.

"You look pretty damn good yourself. Thank you for waiting." She smiles back.

I don't respond, instead I push my lips onto hers and pull her close to me. My eyes shut on their own accord and thankfullness pours over me as I appreicate the feeling of her in my arms. She's small, but strong and her body presses against mine like it's meant to fit there. I don't argue with it, instead I bask in the gorgeous woman that she is.

"Right love birds, time to go." Noah calls, but his voice sounds distant.

Pulling back we're breathing heavily as Alex wipes my bottom lip. Realising I probably have lipstick on it, I kiss her finger gently as it passes over for the last time. Alex's cheeks blush pink at the attention and I find myself amused that I can bring down her strong persona with one simple action, all these months later.

"Ready to go?" I ask.

Alex nods and draws a deep breath. "Yeah, lets do this."

We make our way down stairs before all piling into Mr Waldens car. Noah sits up front with him, quickly chatting about the soccer that's going on right now. I take Alex's hand into my own as I look out of the window, Isadora and Alex chatting beside me.

The streets start out quiet and serene but very quickly the evidence of the event trickles into the street. More and more lights shine onto the car, the people gethering slowly. Eventually we stop just by the red carpet, ready for us to get out and go straight onto it.

"Ready?" Alex asks, turning to me with a mixture of apprehension and excitement across her face.

I give her hand a squeeze and nod. "Yeah, let's do this."

Noah and Isadora step out of the car first and they're met with a roar of shouting and screaming. You can faintly hear the sound of the paparazzi but the flashes of the camera shine like a beacon on the dark streets. Adrenaline rips through my body as they continously flash, sparking up determination inside of me.

I send Alex a reassuring look before getting out of the car, taking Alex's hand in mine and helping her out. The sound is deafening. The atmosphere is whole-consuming. The bright lights and flashes are blinding. But Alex's presence beside me is silent. Silent yet strong.

Taking her with me, we pose for photos as the crowds go mental in front us. Continuously moving, we smile and pose together as we attempt to stay under control in the pressurising environment. After posing together, we split apart and do single photos before making our way down the red carpet into the section where the interviewers wait.

Hanging with microphones ready in their hands, a looming sense of doom shrouds their area. No actor thoroughly enjoys interviews but tonight, when the stakes are so high, I know I'm going to enjoy them even less. Gathering myself into a calm mental state, Alex and I make our way into the swarm.

Quickly getting shouted over by a male interviewer who looks more eager than all of them, I put on my smile and make my way over - determined to make this something that I feel happy with. It would be be better if I could do it if I was with Alex but she's already talking to an interviewer, her smile constant as she chats naturally.

Turning to face my own interview, insecurities quake through me. I smooth them over with a nod of fake confidence in the direction of the interviewer before standing in front of him. Unknown to the rest of the world, the aftershocks run through me, embedded deep - shaking me like an earthquake. I've always assumed going public with Alex would run smoothly, but assuming something and actually seeing it are very different. If this red carpet backfires and people don't like us then management may be forced to break us up.

That won't happen. I won't let it happen.

"So, Theodore, how's your night going?" The interviewer begins and I'm glad the smile stays on his face. Bored, old, repetitive reporters are the worst.

"I'm pretty good, thanks. Hope you're not too hot out here." I mention, knowing that the August weather may become exhaustive after a while.

"Not at all. You're very refreshing." He nods. "Now, this event, are you excited?"

I clear my throat before I talk. "Yeah, defiantly. I think it's a great night to celebrate successes and everyone here tonight deserves the recognition of their incredible talents."

"Does Alex feel the same way?" He asks.

A smirk makes its way onto my lips. Bingo. "I'm sure she does, yeah."

"Talking of Alex, are you two still together?" He asks.

I let out a small laugh and nod. "Yes. Happily, too. We're in a serious relationship, it isn't some scam that's going to break up within two weeks."

"Good to know." He smiles and I walk away onto the next interviewer.

The questions are relentless and they keep on coming. Moving from interviewer to interviewer, I try to complete as many as possible. They're all very similar and very focused on Alex and I - which is expected but it would be nice to talk about work for once.

As I finish explaining what Alex and I were doing on the boat picture and how we were just holding hands, Alex comes closer to me and stands three interviewers away from me.

Her smile is still on, her blushed cheeks highlighted by the beaming happiness she always displayed on her face. Blonde hair swirls around her and her dress still has me drooling. She's absolutely gorgeous. There's no other way to describe it. Standing here, surrounded by paparazzi, there's no other person I would want with me. She is the one.

"So, Theodore? Your plans?" The interviewer asks.

A brief flash of panic flutters over my mind as I realize I haven't been paying attention. The idea that's been floating in my mind since the minute these intrusive questions began springs to the front of my head again, screaming at me with temptation. A plan formulates in my mind and in a split second decision, I put my plan into action.

"I'm not sure to be honest but I do know my plans for right now." I answer simply, avoiding whatever the question was.

I leave the interviewer with a puzzled look on her face and begin walking towards Alex.
