Echoes of the Firefly

Once upon a time

in a land not far away

lived a little girl

who sang every day.

She sang about beauty,

happiness and joy.

Little did she know

she upset one boy.

He got so angry,

but in fact is was envy,

that made him do

what he did then.

He climbed through her window

when the clock stroke ten.

The next day the voice

of the little girl was gone

because the boy did

what he had done.

She could no longer

sing, rhyme or speak.

The girl suddenly

felt very bleak.

All her color

vanished at once,

just as her light

and all her songs.

She hid in the darkness,

somewhere far away,

until a firefly

came one day.

It was small, but it was all

she needed that day

to add a little color

in her world so gray.

She found once again

beauty in Life.

She found harmony

after the strife.

Together they crawled

out of that night.

Together they found

the girl's own light.

Soon her voice

followed as well.

She could now scream,

screech and yell.

It took her some time

to sing again

and all her rhymes

were filled with pain.

But slowly the songs

became happier each day,

with every doubt

the girl could slay.

Yet the songs about

beauty, happiness and joy,

keep sounding differently

since she reclaimed her voice.
