Generis: Day Nineteen

'The Story That Lasted Thirty-One Days'

Throughout history, empires have been built and crumbled, kingdoms came and went and many things have changed, but the Vampire species has remained unique and in a class of its own.

The Generis was formed in the distant past through some unresolved act of nature, born from a fusion between the burnt blood of flesh-eating bats and the ashen remains of cannibalistic Endophytes.

On a cold October night, after a feast of moral flesh a band of barbaric, cannibalistic Endophytes, sought shelter from a violent thunderstorm. In sheer desperation, they fled into the gaping mouth of a cave, and found themselves slipping and sliding ankle-deep in blood-stained faeces, the defecation exuded from the flesh-eating bats that hung from the roof of the cave.

There was a lot of bumping and barging as they collided with each other, with arms and weapons flailing in the putrid air. Eventually, they came to rest either face down or face up in the blood-stained faeces. On regaining their footing they began yelling insults and shouts of disgust at each other about the stinking mess they were in, it was hardly surprising that their rather verbose behaviour awoke the caves slumbering inhabitants.

Uninvited guest had entered the home of a flesh-eating bat quorum, who, by any stretch of the imagination were unaccustomed to such a commotion The only thing that would be allowed to disturb them was the odd vermin as it scurried through the cave, being distant cousin's they would turn a blind eye to the intrusion of a rat or two. But in response to the cacophony of noise created by the barbarians, which was offensive to their acoustically attuned ears, they returned a noise of their own and the walls of the caves soon echoed with the sound of their ultrasonic screeches, that sought out the intruders.

With the echolocation complete they opened their wings and swooped from their perches, to attack the cannibalistic Endophytes, who'd come uninvited, that they thought would make a tasty, after supper snack, what a delicious home delivery.

The battle was fierce and fatal, but these barbarians were tenacious and gave as good as they got, it wasn't long before both bat and barbarian, flesh and bone littered the floor, a blood-stained faeces stew.

However, the battle was not to last long, their efforts had carried them toward the entrance of the cave. The skies above the battle were alight, with bright white flashes, it only took an instant, and they were obliterated as an unheralded thunderbolt exploded in the mouth of the cave, everything inside and out was incinerated by the white-hot flash. A huge deluge followed the lightening, the ensuing torrent washed away all evidence of a battle, the ashes of the storm's victims were swept into the cave, where they were to remain undisturbed throughout and beyond the Endophyte's dark ages.
