𝖎. Hollow Hearts, Burning Hands

Being you sucked. That's what you had gathered from the time you had spent living. It wasn't being a monster nor being a woman that ruined your days, no. It was all you. You thought of yourself as one of the unluckiest being on the planet, there was no other explanation behind what had happened.

What caused such a depressive mindset? Let's see: First of all, you had spent days trying to find a new way to be far from the glowing stick—Up your ass —that was Doctor Phosphorus. The only solution that you had succeeded on coming up with? Isolation.

So you did your best to get yourself thrown into an empty cell. You talked back to the guards, even spitting at the ground in front of them. You insulted the other monsters, hoping to get a reaction bad enough to end it up with a fight. You were one step from killing someone, it would have been your last resort anyway, but they decided that they had had enough.

They finally locked you inside the cell. It had dark green walls, a small window on the farthest corner from the bed. A bed which couldn't even be called that, it was just a mattress thrown on the ground, with a grey pillow and no cover. There was an urinal and a sink, both in metal. Food was delivered right on time, three times a day. You ate the same as the others, but you could have swore that your food was better than theirs, it didn't have any radiation inside.

You spent your time in isolation quite happily, was it thanks to your deranged mind which made it seem easier than it actually was or maybe the hate that had drove you there. Your plan had succeeded and for you it was more than enough.

That was until you heard a knock on the door. You stepped in front of it as you waited curiously. There was the noise of the lock disengaging, followed by a loud buzz. The metal was pushed and you found yourself face to face with Amanda Waller, the one who always held the reins of everything. Instinctively, your hand went to touch a small scar on your neck, behind your ear. It reminded you that the chip was still there, that you couldn't do anything against her.

"Vespera, Flag. Flag, Vespera" she introduced you to the man at her side. Rick Flag (Senior), it wasn't a secret what had happened to his son. You let your arm fall back at your side, straightening your back as you looked forward.

"I thought we weren't allowed to bring human criminals" spoke the man, sounding really confused. He was wearing a yellow zip up shirt and a pair of greyish pants. He had grey hair except for a black streak at the center, he wasn't your type but you could have easily worked with that if it meant being free.

You tilted your head to the side as you let your eyes meet his. "I'm not a human, you can bring me wherever you want" you talked back, your voice echoing repeatedly in his ears as you smirked teasingly.

"Vespera" Amanda called your name. You dropped the act and you huffed out annoyed. You held a bored expression on your face while he blinked a couple of times, weirded out by your antics and the affect they had had on him.

"Don't worry" she reassured him blankly "Her powers are only momentary"

He had nodded, silently. Then they had dragged you out, ignoring your complains as you tried to make them keep you there, reminding them that you still had five days before you had to be thrown back with the rest. After some time, Waller gave Flag the okay to fill you in. He explained vaguely the mission that you would have had to face and he added the tiny little detail that you weren't going to be the only monster there.

That's how you found yourself sitting on the back of a plane, Weasel on one side, the anti-nazi robot on the other. Fish girl and Frankenstein's bride in front of you and with that damned skeleton on the far left.

You spent the time silently, staring down at your hands as you thought about all the way you could have had made both Rick and Amanda pay for this. Especially the latter, who always knew everything about everyone. What were they even thinking putting you in a mission with that fucking glow stick? Maybe they wanted one of you gone and they were leaving the choice to you two. The last one standing would have had the right to live.

Suddenly he groaned in annoyance. It made you slowly tilt your head up, bored look on your face as you looked at his. "Lighten up baby" you swore he had made his flames grew brighter as he had said that, it made vomit come up in the back of your throat. "You finally saw me again" he added.

You fake smiled, an horrendous smile that showed all your repressed hate. "What part of me getting isolation just so I could keep away from your stupid toxins made it seems like I actually wanted to see you?" you asked back, narrowing your eyes. You could feel the other two women watching you, both with curiosity and confusion.

"When you sucked me off just to control your bitches instincts" he spit out, you could hear it in his tone that he thought he had won. Too bad you were never going to give him that satisfaction, not again at least.

"If I remember correctly it was you begging to eat me out, didn't know it was a requirement to have your body back" you almost smirked at what you had said. But you couldn't hide to yourself the way the memories flooded your mind, the way he had felt against your core, your eyes rolling to the back of your head as he groaned like an animal in heat.

Before he could have said much else Rick Flag walked through the door. "I know you all aren't exactly enthusiastic about this mission. But..."

The bride groaned, interrupting him. Maybe she was entertained by your bickering. You let your head fall behind. You didn't care about being enthusiastic, you cared about ending it as soon as you could so you could go back to ignore the ex-doctor in peace. Days of sacrifices for nothing, being in front of him was now forcing you to face it all.

"General, I believe you've read us wrong." Phosphorus spoke, openly sarcastically. "We're delighted to be here and delighted to serve our country."

Another time, you would have laughed at his statement and the tone behind it. But it wasn't another time, there you hated him. And he did too.

Flag squinted his eyes, confused. "Okay. Uh, great."

The Bride turned around to look at the skeleton in his face "Are you smiling?" she asked. It reminded you that it wasn't so normal to be able to read his every expression, that he didn't actually have a face to analyze.

"Yes." he nodded.

"Sarcastically?" she added.

"Of course" you muttered under your breath as he shrugged. All he could do was being sarcastic and lie, you could see it clearly now. Every moment with him made you remember how stupid you had been.

At your side, John —You actually preferred to call him that over Weasel, he actually listened only whan you called him that anyway— struggled against the bindings. You moved your hand up and down his back, trying to keep him calm. You could feel Phosphorus' eyes on you but you remained focused on the other monster.

"G.I. Robot is detecting unease" the metallic voice from the creature at your other side cut through the silent tension "Could he be, G.I. Robot asks, in fear of being discovered as nazi scum?" A gun came out from his wrist, he put his arm in front of you to point the end of his weapon at the head of the stressed humanoid.

"No" you pushed his robot arm away, your eyes locked on the stressed face of the weasel.

"Put your arm—Your gun down." ordered Flag, he tried to calm down the robot with his next words "He's not a nazi."

The burning skeleton tilted his head to the side as he observed you keep your hands on the weasel. "Child killer, though. Not a great look." he commented out loud.

Your head quickly turned around, you glared at him as you talked back. "Yeah, you should know that"

You could feel his expression morph into one of offense and anger, but once again you couldn't actually see it and all you could do was imagine it. Satisfied with the silence from his end you tilted your chin up, Rick took it as his hint to chime in "Supposedly, he had a bad experience the last trip he took on this Osprey, that's all."

The Bride looked out the small circular window, gazing at the view under the plane. You watched as realization hit her before she loudly asked another question "Are we in goddamn Pokolistan?" Your eyebrows shoot up, it wasn't easy to recognize a place from this height. From her expression you knew that she was all but happy with this mission, it made two of you.

The fish girl observed the side of the bride's face as she questioned. "You've been here before?"

The groan that left the corpse was enough to answer any doubts. You let your eyes fall to the floor as a voice from the speaker warned you about the upcoming landing. The small noise that left the weasel mouth was enough to make you resume your petting. "We're almost there" you whispered as softly as you could.

Moments after, the plane touched the ground. The princess' guards were waiting for you all, one of the men wearing the armors was standing in the center without his helmet, he smiled widely at Flag. You were quickly pushed inside the back of a truck, this time sitting between the robot and Rick. Useless to precise that Phosphorus ended up seated right in front of you.

This time you couldn't do much else except glare right at his eyes sockets. He reciprocated, arms crossed. You knew Flag kept throwing you two strange glances, fish girl too. They were both too curious to succeed on hiding it. You didn't care much, all you could focus on was the hatred passion that burned from deep inside you.

John grunted, it started to move around and groan noisily. It wasn't enough to make you break your staring contest. "Calm down" tried Rick without much success "We'll be there soon."

Phosphorus straightened back up in his seat as he pointed at the animal at his side "Oh, my God, is he pissing? He's pissing!" he shouted. "You son of a bitch! Gah! It's on my leg! Look at the satisfied look on his face."

A smile overtook your features as you watched the yellow liquid drip against his leg. You had just got a double victory, first the staring contest then the piss. Maybe it wouldn't have been that bad being on this mission together. Not if it kept giving you this satisfactions.

He turned his skull forward, precisely in your direction. "No one thought to take him out for a walk after a long trip?"

You squinted your eyes at him, throwing daggers with your glare. "I swear, you better have your eyes closed"

☠︎︎

When you were little you had always wanted a castle. The kind that you see in the movies, right on top of the hill. With gold coeated walls, colorful decorations, and enormous windows from which light could shine through. You wanted it to be so tall to reach the clouds, towers watching over everything. You imagined it to have a huge entrance from where a whole army could step through.

"It's a childish dream" you had hidden your smile against the green-glowing chest as he laid on his back, his arms circling your naked waist. Your chin over his sternum, your hands just under his shoulders. You had bitten your lip as to try to keep your chuckle. Not even being inside a prison cell could have ruined that moment.

One of his hands had left your skin, cold air hitting the spot where his high temperature had kept you warm, he had pushed a strand of hair away from your face. His fingers had caressed your cheek as he stared down at you. "I like it. I can picture little you running around the place, all dressed up" soft words and softer tone, his palm had gone back to the spot at your side.

Your orbs had observed him and his green, translucent skin. You had always find fascinating the way all bodies worked but his especially. You could have studied him for hours, scanning every inch of him. Instead you had simply moved yourself into a more comfortable position, both hands tucked under your chin. "What about you, any doctor-related childish dreams or were you more on the firefighter side?"

He had tilted his skull to the side, ignoring your dumb pun and pretending to need a moment to recall his past. His skeleton fingers had tapped repeatedly over your skin until he had finally gotten the answer. "Gasp!" he had stilled, staying silent for a dramatic pause. He had squeezed you tightly making you let out a small yelp before he had whispered his secret "I've always wanted to save a princess!"

Now, his eyes burned against your back as they escorted you all inside the palace. His shoulders slumped, a movement almost imperceptible. Almost. Fish girl, Nina, had kept her focus on the both of you, curiosity pushing her. She had so many questions and so little answers, she had even tried to ask something to The Bride but she wasn't one for gossip and she knew almost nothing.

So she had resorted to watching as you stopped admiring the place instead turning your head slightly to watch behind your shoulders. You met eyes with the doctor and he looked away as you gave him a mean look. Unknown to both her and each others, you had been thinking of the same memory.

"Richard Bill Flag, Sr. So wonderful to be meeting you." the voice of the princess cut through your thoughts, she had short blonde hair and light blue eyes, a fairytale look if you knew one.

The man took a moment to answer "Yes, you too." You noticed immediately the change in his tone, was he actually mesmerized? You couldn't believe it.

"Your middle name is Bill?" asked The Bride with furrowed eyebrows. You tilted your head as you stared too at Flag, waiting for a confirmation of some sort.

"Yes."

Nina chimed in from the other side "Not, like, William?"

"No."

"Whose middle name is Bill?" questioned Bride making Rick grow annoyed. "Mine! Okay?" he answered back as he turned to look at the walking corpse.

"No need to get defensive" you muttered, mocking him under your breath.

He took a deep breath, focusing back on the blonde standing in front of him "Princess Rostovic, it's an honor." he bowed. He fucking bowed. You stiffed a laugh as you watched his head dip down. The small noise you emitted caused something to erupt inside the skeleton, something that he thought he had buried long ago.

Phosphorus crossed his arms over his chest, trying to stop whatever it was that you had been doing from getting to him. He used his arms as a shield, protecting the organ at the center of his chest from your strange tricks. Yeah, your old argument still stung and he was all but proud of it.

The captain of the guards stepped forward "This is not the kind of bow we do in Pokolistan, Mr. Richard Flag." he looked down at the other man as he spoke "So, unfortunately, we're going to have to kill you."

"What?" Flag straightened back up. You raised your eyebrow as the corner of your mouth curled upward, it was going to be fun.

"Alexi." tried the princess.

"I am sorry. But we must only do sacred, customary bow in this castle." explained the captain, Alexi. "Everyone, murder this man." At his words, the guards circled you all, pointing their blasters at your faces and getting ready to shoot.

"What? Hold on a minute." tried to stop them Rick "No one briefed me on what kind of bow—"

The captain started to laugh loudly, the other guards followed. They bent forward, hands on their knees as they let it all out. None of you were impressed by it. Especially not the human, Flag, who was actually disappointed (And also kind of embarrassed).

"Alexi." the princess chuckled "They're... How do you say it? Messing on you?" she explained to you all. As if it hadn't been clear enough.

"I am making joke!" laughed the captain "For a minute, I think you're going to make mess in your pants, huh?" his thick accent let itself know and he laughed at the man's face.

"I was never gonna—" tried to say Flag.

"Very close to messing his plans." interrupted him The Bride, making you chuckle.

"I wasn't even in the vicinity of doing that." he grumbled back.

"We are so much like Americans, yes?" Alexi crossed his arms as he kept on mocking "Ooh, we pull pranks like Jamie Kennedy Experiment. We do the Super Bowl shovel! We like to say 'Wazzup?'" He brought his hand to his ear and made a fist, sticking out his thumb and pinky like an old-school phone receiver. He sticked out his tongue as he mocked every American on the world.

"Well, you're certainly current with your popular cultural references." Phosphorus spoke. It made your blood boil because you could hear the smirk in his tone, you could hear the corners of his mouth curling upwards, you could hear his sarcasm slipping through.

"Thank you." the captain clearly couldn't. Not that you could blame him, you would have preferred much more to be clueless too.

"You're welcome." the monster said back "Sarcastic smile." he whispered to Bride. I know, you thought as you kept staring forward, ignoring the urge to turn around. You knew it, you knew him. But, seeing how things had ended, clearly not as much as you had thought.

"Now, I have question for you, Skeleton." he pointed at the fluorescent body "Where's the beef?" he laughed "Clara Peller, one of the greats—"

"Enough, Alexi." finally the princess stopped him. But the damage had been done. You had noticed how Phosphorus had stiffened when the focus had shifted on him. Old you would have threw him a glance, moving your hand near his and intertwining your pinkies together (Just like you had already done so many times). But new you didn't care about his feelings—You had to keep reminding that to yourself— so you stayed put.

He pretended that his body hadn't betray him. You pretended to not see the twitch in his fifth finger. Because for you it hurt too much to even think about what it could have possibile meant. And to him it didn't seem fair that his soul still called for yours, not after everything. He closed his hand in a fist.

"We've prepared a banquet for you, our honored guests." explained the princess. It made you smile happily, it couldn't have been worse than what you were used to in prison. And if you knew something about castles, it was that they always managed to had the best chefs.

And it was, in fact, just like that. Each of you ordered the thing that you wanted the most, from fish to meat from pasta to rice. For John you asked them to bring the biggest piece of chicken that they owned and he was happy to devours his food by pushing his face inside the filled bird. You smiled as he chomped happily before you looked down at your plate. You too had opted for meat, duck to be precise, but you noticed something else that caught your attention.

"He doesn't eat?" asked Nina from your other side. She must had noticed too that the robot hadn't touched food, could he even eat that? What was he used to eat in prison? You shrugged in response both to hers and your own questions. "G.I. Robot?" she called for him.

"Yes, Miss Nina?"

"Would you like anything?"

"I think so" you replied for him. You waved an hand in the air, and immediately a man rushed at your side. "Some diesel fuel for the robot" you pointed to the monster in question. The man nodded back before he walked out of the room.

You finally ate your first bite. Useless to say that it felt just like an explosion had happened inside of your mouth. You had almost forgotten how it tasted like, real food and all that. You didn't know that there was something that you could have missed so much. You felt your senses enlightening, your mood getting better, and a small moan left your mouth.

"Shit." muttered Phosphorus at the scene. From his spot his voice didn't reach you ears, and he was really thankful for that. But he did earn a raised eyebrow and a disgusted look from The Bride that screamed 'Try to keep it in your pants'.

"This is too good" you had muttered with eyes closed. Your head falling back as you took your sweet time to taste every single flavor inside of your mouth. "Can't believe I've been so long without it." you pointed at your plate "This, this is heaven"

Nina giggled, amused by your display of pleasure. She watched your profile as you grabbed another bite and when you straightened back up she easily noticed the skeleton staring from the other end of the table. When he realized that he had gotten caught he turned back to focus on his plate. But Nina knew what she had seen, and curiosity was eating her up "Can I ask you a question?"

You hummed back, between a bite and another.

She sighed "You and Phosphorus—"

You immediately gulped down your food, sending her a glare. "Dont ask." you realized that your tone had come out quite grumpy and sour so you mentally cursed yourself. "It's not a good story anyway" you added.

"But I remember you two so in love!"

You looked at her again as you chomped on another piece of meat. "Well, it got ugly quickly" you focused as you cut another piece "So don't ask me again"

☠︎︎︎

After lunch they showed you the garden. It was gigantic and beautiful, a slice of haven made of bright flowers and neatly trimmed bushes. In the center a big fountain, its water sparkled in the sunlight. The trees had branches that were enough to shade you so you didn't have to use your hand to cover your eyes. In the distance there was the sound of birds chirping, and it made you feel as if you really were inside a fairytale.

You set on a white wooden bench, you looked around and you watched as the golden rays turned into gold everything they touched. John made a sound quite similar to a bark as he waited patiently at your feet. You threw the bone in the air and you watched with a smile as he ran away to catch it.

There, everything was calm. There was peace and quiet and you tried to forget that sooner or later you would have been forced back inside the prison. Weasel ran back at your feet. "Such a good boy!" you praised as you patted his head. He howled lowly, happily, you threw the bone again.

Someone set down at your side. They kept their mouth shut but they held two beers in their hands and one was pushed in your direction. "Thank you" you grabbed it. It was cold and refreshing and it made you even happier than you already were. It didn't took much to make you smile, that was a given.

"Nina told me about you and Ghost Rider." spoke The Bride, she took one big sip from the green bottle. "Her curiosity won over your broken heart?"

You let out a chuckle. Then a deep sigh as you laid back, leaning comfortably against the bench. You let your eyes wonder to the monster in question, who was now talking to two guards each one with a drink in their hand. You turned your head to look at the woman seated next to you "She has puppy eyes. That's like... My one and only weakness."

The corners of her mouth curled upwards. She moved her gaze on the garden until she found her friend, Nina, standing next to G.I. Fish-girl weaved her hand in the air and both you and Bride copied the gesture. After that, the corpse tilted her face in your direction. "You two were really a thing?"

You looked at her confused. "I didn't take you for the gossip type" you confessed.

"I'm still a woman" she shrugged. You knew there was something more behind it, but you weren't one to push and neither was she. She got the hint anyway. "Also I don't understand what anybody would see in him" she added.

You told her what she wanted to hear "Yeah." you sipped the beer, refreshing your throat before you explained further, your eyes to the ground. "He was sweet, we were fun, and all that same shit. We even slipped the L-word here and there" a soft smile graced your lips as memories flooded your mind. It vanished with the same speed. "But, apparently, the toxins fried his brain first and mine second." you shrugged "So here we are"

"Mhmm" she hummed, nodding. She thought about all the interactions between you and the glowing man. "Nina will ask 'lot more questions, you know?"

You pushed one hand against your forehead "Yeah, I know" A moment of silence fell between you two as you looked around, it really did feel like a slice of heaven. "Have you ever dreamed of being a princess?" it had been gnawing at the back of your mind all day. Had you killed all sparkles of innocence that had once been inside you or was it normal to have those wishes and still and up like you.

She stiffened, her eyes widened. She looked down at the bottle in her hand, her fingers tapping repeatedly against the green glass. "I think about all the possibilities I had." she admitted "They could have made me whatever. A soldier, a leader, a slave, a princess. All this choices and they made me a bride."

"But look at you now, you don't resemble a bride in the slightest—Actually, you're the farthest thing from it" you tried. You could feel her emotions, her anger, her sadness. You could feel it in her voice that there was something from her past that still hurt deeply, just like you. "It doesn't matter what they could have made you, you became who you are right now because of you" and as you spoke those words to her, you understood. It didn't mattered what you used to be, you had chose to become this, and you were more then happy with were you where now.

As silence fall between you two, you moved your eyes to the beautiful view in front of you. Your gaze fell on Phosphorus who was dancing with a couple of guards while two of them walked in your direction. You smirked as they smiled widely, motioning with their hands to come forward. "Want to dance?" you asked to the living corpse. She made a face that was enough to let you know what she meant. "I will dance." you commented before you left the beer on the ground.

You jumped up on your feet and you skipped towards the two guards. It didn't take much convincing from their part and before you knew it you found yourself moving around, following the notes of the little orchestra that had been playing in the corner. One of the men grabbed your hand, he made you twirl and you laughed as you felt the soft breeze hit your face. He let go of you but they both kept dancing at your sides and you made sure that they all followed the right rhythm.

Phosphorus too had kept dancing, that was until your laugh had reached his ears. Then he had stopped abruptly, quickly looking around until he caught a glance of you. His flames grew slightly as he saw you dancing and laughing with the guards. Once again he was surprised to see that his body still had some strange reactions when you were near. It wasn't jealousy what he was feeling, no. (He repeated to himself). It was anger, because how could it be that you were so happy and carefree even when he was there. All while he faced the deepest parts of his thoughts.

You, who had used him without thinking twice. You, who had used your powers to let him fall in your trap and do as you had pleased. You had given him back the one thing that he had lived without for fifteen fucking years. Affection. Both physically and emotionally. He had thought that touch would have forever been off the table, so little being could have done it without burning to ashes and who would have ever wanted to do it just because? Apparently, you.

It had been short lived, in the end you had shown your real motives. Not one thing was done for nothing in this world (Thanks to you now he was certain of it.) Just like he too had had his reasons from his part. And now he couldn't even think freely when you were near, you obscured his mind and you called him to you. Just like you had always done. But he wouldn't have fallen for it this time.

That's what he had to repeat to himself for the rest of the day. As you kept drinking beers with Bride, laughing and dancing drunkenly around the garden until you had decided that it wasn't enough. "I need to be free" you had screamed before tossing your shoes on the ground, all just to feel the grass under your feet. You had missed it deeply. The prison had took so much from you and being inside of a castle was showing you the other side of the coin.

And you liked it, a lot.

That's why you kept on smiling the whole day, the drunk effect disappearing quickly thanks to your regeneration system. And that's why he had to keep reminding himself to not fall for it. Because you kept looking around with big, doe eyes and it reminded him of the way you used to stare at him. They were two different gazes, he could see that. One was real, while the other had been just pretending.

He cursed himself, punching the air above him while he laid down on his back. The room they had given him was a lot bigger than the prison cell, not that he imagined less from the castle of a princess. The walls were taller, the bad was comfier, the silence of the night felt like peace and not like torture. And still, he couldn't sleep.

Was this how you had always dreamed it to be? Or maybe it was better? No, he knew that your mind was a complex tangle of thoughts. There was no way that this was better than your imagination. Stop. He scolded himself. He couldn't spend the night like this, he had made a promise to himself to keep all of this away. And yet, here he was crumbling down just by being together outside of the prison. He figured that it was what happened when he didn't see you for weeks before you were forced so close. His brain was getting fried (For the third time).

He let his arms fell at his side and he tilted his chin down, he stared at the wall in front of the foot of his  bed. They had given you the room next to him and it was making him crazy. They had to be doing that on purpose, there was no way that it was a coincidence. Someone up there had to be toying with him. All his mind could come up with were the thoughts off your pasts nights spent together, you bribing the prison guards so that you two could be left alone.

Unknown to him, on the other side of the wall, in a room that mirrored his—Its layout was reversed, yet they were identical in every little detail.—you too were finding it hard to get to sleep. It was all too dark. It had been years since your last time sleeping inside of such a dark room, you had tried turning the lights on but it was a orangish glow that gave you far too much comfort for your liking. You needed the light burning through your eyelids, enough to burn the thoughts away at least.

You kept tossing around as you tried to find a position good enough. Instead all you could think about was that he was just some meters away, and in between there was simply one wall that he could have easily burned through. You knew that you were thinking crazy, if he had actually wanted to kill you he would have never done it at night when he knew your power was stronger. No, he would have waited for the lights of the day and used it as his advantage.

You heard commotions outside the room, things faking and breaking. Grunting and tossing. Groans and hits. You huffed annoyed as you got out of bed, the covers had been so warm that all you had been wearing was a night gown gifted to you by the princess herself. A way of thanking your for protecting her, that's what she had said. It was sleeveless and ended above the knees. You grabbed a robe that you had previously thrown on the armchair and you tied it at your waist.

You slowly stepped outside and you looked around you as the noises kept echoing around. You noticed that Phosphorus' door was wide open and you decided to take a quick look inside and make sure that he wasn't there. You did the same with the others. Nina and Bride shared theirs and it was empty too. You didn't bother look for G.I. and John because you knew that they had to guard the princess' room.

Instead you kept walking down the long corridor, until you reached the stairs, the noises getting louder as you got closer. You saw a shadow in the corner of your eyes, and since it was your thing, you recognized immediately who it was. "Princess?" you called. She turned around, looking like a deer caught in headlights, with her widened blue eyes.

"I heard the chaos" she explained. She looked and sounded scared but there was something off about her. The shadows were known to help the lies spread freely, but not to you who were one with them both. "I wanted to see what it was all about" she added.

It was too late to understand the truth. You had never been one to fond of it anyway. You simply nodded back before you stepped in front of her and resumed with following the noise.

It brought you to the kitchen, you and the princess both hid behind the wall as you tried to catch a glimpse of what had been happening inside. Before you could take a look you heard a familiar wicked laugh. The one that had hunted your thoughts for all this time, the one that kept dragging you back to your personal hell. You sighed, annoyed, and you lazily pushed yourself out of your hiding.

You leaned against the door with crossed arms, watching as the fight ended with Rick Flag holding the remote right in front of the skeleton's face. Even thought he had both a shirt and boxers on, you could clearly see that the man was covered with bruises. His thumb twitched as he thought about pushing the red button.

"No, please, no!" begged loudly Phosphorus. He was kneeling on the ground, his hand up to shield his face. The two fighters were unaware of your presences until the princess decided to put an end to it. "Richard?" she called, unsure.

Flag was caught by surprise, her voice made him turn around to stare at the blonde woman and it made you see the blood dripping from his nose. From his spot on the ground Phosphorus couldn't see you, he kept his gaze on the half-naked man as he got scolded him.

"Phosphorus, you idiot! You think Waller would give me the only remote? You'd be hopping around like a Mexican jumping bean for days, if you escaped." explained Flag "Or, If I told her about this..." his voice got softer "I'm not here to torture you. We're supposed to be on the same damn team." at the end of his speech he dropped his arms to his sides. He gave the skeleton one last disappointed look before he walked to the door.

You simply stared as he passed by to go and immediately excuse himself to the princess. You could see that she didn't care much about it as she simply asked to help him with his injuries, nodding along his words without actually hearing them. They walked away and you gave one last glance to the destroyed room. You turned around, stepping back and leaving Phosphorus alone (He thought he already was). Because new you didn't care about his feelings—You reminded yourself.

Not even a second later you muttered angrily under your breath "Shit shit shit. I'm so going to regret this" as you walked inside the kitchen, stopping only when you were standing in front of him. Hands on your hips as you looked down at his covered, glowing body. "C'mon, before you cry your heart out" you pushed one hand in front of his face.

He stared at you with awe, just a little bit, and uncertainty, lots and lots of it. Not one thing was done without motives—he repeated to himself once again. Because there was no way that you had put all your shared history behind just to help him up. But still, you were just landing him an hand, he could still accept it and then walk away from you and your calling eyes like nothing had ever happened. I won't fall for it again—he added to his reminders. And as his palm collided with yours he knew that he would have had to do a lot more than talk to himself to follow those words and keep away.

All because he had underestimated the power that your touch had over him. All because his body would have always craved yours. All because there was something in your soul that kept calling for him. All because a part of him still couldn't believe what you had done. All because he had wanted to prove his own self wrong, even thought he had already knew the answer. You. Always you.
