𝖎𝖎. Flames Don't Forget
Phosphorus was silent. He was just a couple of steps ahead of you and he was doing his best to hide his shame. He kept his head high, arms dangling down. He contemplated whistling but he knew that it would have actually made everything even more embarrassing. He could feel your eyes trained to the back of his head, he hated not knowing what you were thinking so he occupied his mind by focusing on not tripping on his own feet. Keeping his cool guy attitude (Or at least, trying to).
It didn't take long to reach your rooms, he stopped in front of his, one hand on the handle. He sighed as he realized that he couldn't bring himself to step inside without doing something else first. He turned to look at you. "Listen—". You didn't give him one glance as your door closed in front of his face with an echoing thud.
His jaw dropped in disbelief.
He straightened back up and he closed his mouth. "Bitch" he muttered before copying your last action. He stepped inside his room, anger slipping out from the tight bubble in which he had secured his heart. He seated down at the edge of his bed, groaning annoyed as he realized all that had happened.
First of all, he had sneaked inside Flag's room to snoop through his things, then he had gotten caught snooping and he had to fight the man, then he had lost against said powerless being and got humiliated in front of his hot ex (He's not one to deny the truth, if he stayed with you for that long it had to be also thanks to the looks), then you had unexpectedly given him an hand showing a sign of truce that he didn't completely understood, last but not least you had closed the door on his face as you ignored his—half insulting—thank you.
So now he was back to the starting point, alone in his room with only his thoughts to keep him company. Those, and a beige dossier with your name written on it. He had pushed it under his hoodie, using the elastic band of the pants to keep it in place as he fought. He had been lucky enough that Rick had only noticed him when he had had the device in his hands, it had made it a lot easier for him to take the other item.
He got it out of its hiding spot underneath his clothes before he slowly opened it, a little unsure of himself. He had always thought that he knew everything about you, you had told him your darkest secrets and deepest thoughts. Whispers carrying sins that couldn't be said out loud. But now that he was faced with the folder, where he knew all your life would have been written, he was hesitant to find out the truth. Had it really been all a lie? Was there some truth behind your soft spoken words?
'Aliases: Vespera' he read inside his mind.
'Status: Alive [Uncertain];
Affiliations: Dr. Phosphorus;
Arrest and sentencing info: ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇'
"C'mon Flag, not even this?" he chuckled. He was surprised that the human didn't have the access to all their private informations, he had supposed that he knew even how many minutes they spent in the bathroom, but of course Waller still held the reins of everything. Anyway, Phosphorus didn't need those infos, he already knew the whole story, if what you had told him was real of course. Not that it would have mattered much to him if that wasn't the case. Liar. Spoke the voice inside his mind. Shut up. He talked back.
He still remembered clearly the day you had finally spoke up about your past. He had been sitting in front of you, holding his head in his palm. It was lunch time and, don't get him wrong, the prison food was all but good but he had gotten a full tray anyway. He wasn't one to skip a meal. However, he had left everything completely untouched because his full focus was on something utterly different but far more interesting. You.
You had been talking for some time now, and he wasn't ashamed to admit that he hadn't registered one single word since you had seated down. Your plate was halfway through, showing that even thought your mouth had been occupied with talking his ear off you had still found time to eat. Not like him, who had been staring intently at your lips for far too long. A skeleton could have only dreamed of having those, and with you he had come quite close.
Suddenly your hand waved in front of his face, making him reconnect with reality and forcing his gaze away from the beautiful scene. When his look fell on your smirking face he couldn't be that mad about changing views. Not with the way the corners of your eyes were wrinkled up at least. "I know I'm quite sexy eating this shitty purée" you teased as you pointed with the fork to the greenish cream on your plate. "But at least act like you're listening as I tell you my traumatic backstory, yeah?" you pierced his arm with the sharp ends of the plastic cutlery.
He kept his radioactive flames at bay, letting you gently stab his transparent skin. "Ouch" he added as he pulled his hand away. You giggled at his reaction before you leaned forward, turning your small laugh into something more on the sexy side as you looked at his eyes socket. "We don't want no additional sauce on this meal" you kept serious for a moment before a loud chuckle left your lips. You didn't notice the way his temperature had grown at your comment.
You set back, this time stabbing your food as you resumed eating. He looked at you in silence for a couple more seconds before he shook his head. "Forgive me, angel" he motioned at you with his opened palm "Weren't you listing all of your traumas?" he asked jokingly.
You rolled your eyes, smile gracing your lips. "Yes. But also finally explaining how I got thrown in here." you added as if it was nothing. As if he hadn't been waiting for this moment for days, weeks, months even. He wasn't one to push, you knew that, he was far too aware of what effect a tragic backstory could have. But his curiosity was an intense feeling, especially with you who usually satisfied him by giving him anything he asked for.
You chuckled at his silence, you could have easily imagined his expression. You looked down at your plate and you took a small breath before you spoke again. "So, as you know, I was a detective—"
"The best one"
"The best one, exactly" you smiled sincerely "Lots of cases solved, lots of criminals caught. Lots and lots of asses handled left and right."
He leaned his head on his palm again, you could easily see him wiggle his eyebrows as his voice turned deep. "Oh yeah?" he asked teasingly.
"Yes" you answered quickly "They gave me this case, a woman getting kidnapped in the middle of the night. It's something common, I was supposed to find the culprit in a couple of seconds." You let go of the fork, moving your hand to your legs as you played with the hem of your shirt.
Phosphorus wanted to burn the anxiety out of you, in the softest of way, but he couldn't. He was left to observe your movements, the way you tilted your head down to cover you eyes, biting your bottom lip between a phrase and the other, eyebrows twitching every once in a while. He slid over the bench, ending up at your side. He grabbed both your hands in his and he gave you warmth.
For a moment you smiled thankfully at him. But that was before you resumed talking. "I followed all the tracks, from the cameras to the witnesses, and it led me to a house hidden inside a cemetery." You scoffed to yourself as you recalled the scene "I know, who would ever go inside alone, it's something that you insult movie's characters for. But I couldn't wait for the team/reinforcements, especially since I could clearly hear the screams of the innocent woman."
He squeezed your hands. The line between bad and good was blurred now, for the both of you. Innocent was a therm that you couldn't even look at anymore, something that sounded like a mock to your whole existence. He still felt like burning the world down as he saw you being so fragile.
"I got inside" you kept going "I freed her, I fought against the man even thought he was twice my size." you chuckled sadly. "He got the best of me, and he decided that I was good enough for his plan. He started chanting in some old shitty language, with animal's blood and lots of candles. Turns out he was actually trying to evoke a demon."
He let out a giggle. Something that he reserved just for you. "I think you may be the unluckiest person ever" he commented, tilting his skull to the side.
You squinted your eyes at him, thankful that he could easily ease up your tension but (Fake) hurt by how he had to joke about your traumas "Thanks hot stuff, I hadn't noticed" you rolled your eyes. "Anyway, going back to my terrible past. Not worse than yours of course, all offense."
"Offense taken." he nodded.
You bit your lips again, this time to suppress a smile. "Something possessed me and it gave me my wonderful powers— Note the sarcasm—"
"I'm noting"
"I got free and I mercilessly killed him by ripping his intestines out from his tummy. Finally the others arrived, they thought I had used self-defense and I quickly went back to my routine. The problem was that I kept hearing these voices in my head, seeing things that weren't there. And before I knew it, everyone thought that I was crazy. I lost my credibility, no one believed me anymore, people started calling me names. I lost my job, I lost my family... I—I lost everything"
He brought your hands to his lips, leaving a soft kiss over your knuckles. "They said I was a 'Crazy bitch', that's how they used to call my schizophrenic mother. I was so angry, I wanted them gone, I killed every single one of them and more. Just because I could. That's until the Bat found me and kicked my ass. Just like he did to you" you tilted your head to the side as you smiled jokingly, pointing your finger at his chest.
He would have loved to get his intestines ripped out by your own hands, especially if he could be alive to admire your bloody work. That was a thought that lasted, thankfully, only a couple of moments. He hummed, unamused. "The Bat got nothing on us angel"
And sure, he might have been far too lost in your eyes to even consider what he was saying. But he had heard your story loud and clear and he knew what he had to do. In your past life you had lost everything to your powers. In this one, he wanted to show you how much you could gain thanks to them.
But in the end, history had repeated itself once again.
"Let's see what you're hiding" he muttered to himself as he turned to the next page. Back to his bedroom, at the castle, the light emitted from his own body was enough to let him read. Even in the darkness of the night. It wasn't like he could go back to sleep that easily, and he had to get some answers. One away or the other.
His head remained still as his transparent orbs scanned the paper. He wanted to find something new, he didn't know what he was actually searching for but he had to keep on digging. "'The mother suffers from schizophrenia, but she doesn't show any signs. Everything that she heard and saw during the summoning was true.'" he read out loud. He let out a breath that he didn't know he was holding in. That was a small confirmation that some of what you had said to him was true, that you hadn't lied the whole time.
His finger slid down to the next line, where his invisible heart skipped a beat. "'She accepted the experiments to try and eliminate the visions without any doubts.'" That was something that he had never know about, he had finally found something that you had kept hidden, a smirk grew on his face.
But with the same speed the side of his mouth turned back down at the next words written on the cream colored paper. "'Registered experiments on the subject:... Electroconvulsive therapy—'" He blinked, trying to understand if he was actually seeing things right. "What the fuck?" he let out.
He went back to reading "'—To blur the line between reality and the subject perception. Starvation, to see if the conditions of the body affect the mind.
Hallucinogenic injections, to see if the subject can tell the difference between real hallucinations and what she sees.
Sleep deprivation, to see if the conditions of the mind affect the visions.'" Phosphorus couldn't believe what was in front of his face. He couldn't believe that it was all true and that you had never told him.
He couldn't believe that Rick knew and didn't let it show. He couldn't believe that you had never let it came out. He couldn't believe that he had never got it. Maybe he actually didn't know you, he would have find out the truth much faster if he had truly knew who was in front of him.
"Lobotomies—" He coughed "Ies? Plurals? What the actual fuck?"
"'—To adjust the brain of the subject. A brain transplant won't work due to the healing factor of the subject. The lobotomy, exactly for that factor, put an end to her suffering. She's grateful for what was done to her'" The ex doctor was buffed "I sincerely doubt that" he commented out loud.
"And she consented to it?" he repeated, still not understanding. Still not sure if he wanted to believe it or not. He knew you were fucked up, you all were. You were monsters, it's what you had to be to survive. But to accept something like that? It was strange, something burned deeply inside of him. And it wasn't hate.
A knock on his door made him quickly look up. He looked around trying to find a place where he could hide the dossier. "Just a—"
His voice was interrupted by the door bursting open. "Alright Moaning Myrtle, it's time to find Rick and apologize for your childish behavior." your voice entered the room. Your body just a step behind. Your mind, a couple of steps further, realized a bit later that he was up on his feet, holding something that he surely shouldn't have had in his hands.
His fingers twitched over the brownish paper, he couldn't decide if he wanted to remain still or if he had to move his hands behind his back. "Of course you have something to hide" you spit out as your eyes scanned his figure. In the darkness of his room, the light from the window and from his body showed you all too clearly his face. And your heart knew his invisible expressions by heart, even if you didn't want it.
You knew the difference in every one of his little movements. You realized immediately the he didn't want to show you what it was about. So, of course, you had to know. "What's that?" you questioned, brows furrowing as annoyance sipped trough your tone.
He tilted his head down, than back up to stare at you. You could see the wheels slowly turning inside his head as he tried to come up with something. "Nothing" was all he mastered to say as you stomped in his direction.
You ripped the paper from his hands, he didn't put up much of a fight. He didn't care about what you thought of him, not anymore at least. Still, he observed the small twitch of your left eye—Which was the same as the one you used to do every time he purposefully annoyed you— as you read the title of the dossier, your name.
You looked up to gave him a quick glare before you quickly opened it up, to read through the folder. "You're a cheating little bitch" you commented blankly as you kept your gaze down on the inked papers. He didn't need any explanations for your little insult, because he knew that whatever you two had been doing was really all a stupid game. "This is not cheating" he replied.
"Totally is" you sing songed under your breath. You skipped through the first page easily, the second too, even thought it was where all the experiments had been written down. Instead you stopped at the third page, your eyes widening.
"What?" asked the skeleton. He had already stepped forward to take a look for himself, if it was something that had left you speechless than he had to know. It was the reason why he had gotten the folder in the first place. You surprised him when you turned the paper so it would be easier for him to read. Even more when you pointed at the middle of the page before you asked him "Did you know this?" with an accusatory tone.
"'Her powers don't work on Dr. Phosphorus, Dr. Phosphorus powers don't work on her'" he read out loud, clearly bored "Yes, I did know that. And I thought you did too, did they fry your brain too hard?"
You glared hardly at him. "The line under asshole" you replied, ignoring the small pain that you felt at his words "It's not my fault you don't have eyes"
He huffed but he went back to reading. "'Her and Phosphorus work as each other's... calming goat?'" his tone turned into confusion. Letting you known that he was as clueless as you on that matter, you could tell the differences in his breath like the creases on your face.
His voice grew as he kept going, it all seemed too surreal to him " 'It should be noted that, even if it doesn't seem the best of ideas, they both are more efficient and easier to control if they are together.' What—"
"Keep reading" you stopped him.
You could feel him roll his eyes at you but he did as you said " 'It doesn't metter what is their relationship status, the effect will always be the one of balancing each other's out' The rest is censored." All this time he thought that they kept pushing you together to prolong the torture that were your lives. You hated each other now, it was known. Especially by those on top, like Amanda Waller who knew everything that happened inside that shitty prison.
"Can you believe that?" you questioned pointing to the not-so-secret informations.
For a moment he remained with his jaw slightly opened, not a word coming out from his mouth. Then he tilted his head up, something switched in his demeanor as he spoke. "You did use me to control your craziness"
You whole expression hardened, your glare burned even thought he was made of flames. The silence inside the room turned into ice cold tension. That should have been enough to let him know your next move. "You're lucky." you tilted your head, another signal that he didn't quite catch. "I would have punched you anyway" He definitely got the hint now. Truce was over.
Your closed hand quickly came up to hit the center of his face. The papers fell to the ground. You felt the burn of his chemical skin on your knuckles, but a satisfied smile appeared on your face at the noise of pain that left his mouth. You had almost broken his nose. Almost. "That's for stealing my dossier"
Your fist tried to hit him again but this time he caught your wrist in his hand. Smoke came out from under his hold. As his flames burned trough your skin your cells regenerated over and over. You raised your eyebrows at the way his flames grew stronger, you knew he could usually control it. "Asshole" You moved your head back and you hit his nose with your forehead, a crack echoed around the room as he let go of your wrist to use his hand to cover his face.
"Fuckin' bitch!" he shouted as he stomped his foot on the wooden floor. He groaned as he thought about his option, one was trying his best to ignore you and going to bed angered as he insulted his own self for not trying to kill you a couple of times. The other was attacking you now and see who got the upper hand even thought he had already lost a fight and his ego was already six feet under the castle.
He growled into his palms as he turned around to not stare at you. Behind him you crossed your arms over your chest as you observed his childish attitude, in the past you had really caught feeling for this excuse of a man? You couldn't believe your old self. Bride was right after all, what you had seen in him was unknown.
He even got the nerve to call you a bitch.
He pushed his nose back in place before he turned around once again, breathing out as he tried to take the right decision. One look into your angry, red eyes and he knew the answer. He would have lied if he had said that it wasn't what he actually craved. "That's what you want?" he questioned through gritted teeth.
Your mouth stretched into a small smirk as you tilted your head to the side. "If that's what you need" You locked eyes. He breathed out and you closed your fists. A moment of stillness. The quiet before the storm. Then your hand moved, it was fast, but this time he was faster.
Once again he stopped your attack in the air, but you kicked him in the stomach. Making him double over as he tried to remain up on his feet. "When did you got so bad at fighting?" You grabbed the bedside lamp and you angrily smashed it against his skull. "I remember teaching you more than enough" you commented as you observed him grunt.
"I wouldn't be surprised if you actually didn't taught me shit" He closed his fists, the flames grew strongly, the temperature in the room rose up. You missed his movements as he remained crouched on the ground. He slowly moved his hand to the wooden floor to grab the wire of the broken lamp, he rolled it around his hand.
He pushed forward, trying to jump at you. You succeeded on dodging his body. "Don't blame me for being an ass-sucking student" you mocked as you tried again to hit him with your closed hand. This time you were the one to miss and he used this advantage to grab the wire with both hands before he wrapped it around your throat.
He could feel the muscles of your neck as he pulled. Your back was against his chest, you moved around as you tried to both hit him and free yourself. As you thrashed he tilted his head to the side to observe your face. It had been long since you two last were so close, his hot breath hitting your neck. Your bodies pressed together. The rage and strong feelings growing inside both of you.
You caught the stare, you turned around quickly to look him in the eyes and your limbs stopped trying to break yourself free. Your body acted on its own. Your eyes flickered to roam around his face. "You learned this from me" you whispered quietly. Your throat was sore because of the wire still tightly wrapped around your neck. You could feel his gaze burn over your skin.
He slowly nodded "Yeah" he breathed out "But I remember a different situation" his head unconsciously tilted forward. Drawn in by the mere distance between you two.
The smell of burnt ashes and chemicals reached your nostrils. It brought a sea of memories with it. You knew you were both getting distracted, you knew it was the perfect moment to get the upper hand once again. You stomped on his foot before you pushed your elbow into his stomach. "Never loose focus, remember?" you mocked as you grabbed one end of the wire. You swapped the positions, now holding him against you and trying to strangle him.
"Then stop using your powers"
You ignored his words as you tightened the hold.
He burned the wire by making his flames grew, it burned you too but it didn't left anything to show. "I always hated how I couldn't leave a mark" he commented, watching the injuries quickly heal by themselves. He went back to try and land a punch but you stopped them all.
"Of course" you spitted out. "You thought I was your propriety" you blocked both his fists and as he tried to hit you with his head you crouched down, using your leg to knock him off his feet. He dragged you down with him and you both went tumbling to the ground.
Your grunts echoed around the room as you rolled on the wooden floor, each of you trying to get the upper hand. "You did act like my dog." he joked as you growled in his face. The more he talked the more he fed the anger growing inside of you. Your heart burned and he could see his own flames reflect inside your pupils. Especially now that you were laying over him, trying to keep him down on the floor.
"You are projecting" you replayed trough gritted teeth as he locked his leg with yours. He used his full weight to turn the both of you around, finally ending up on top. (Something that he had clearly missed— you joked inside your mind, even thought you knew it clearly wasn't the right time). "You shouldn't flirt with your opponent" you smiled sickeningly before you used your full force to crash your forehead against his nose.
This time he growled in pain but he kept his hands on yours, not leaving you much room to escape. You laughed at the pained sound that had left his mouth and he made his flames grew, burning your skin over and over.
You bit your lips with so much force that blood dripped out. You didn't want to give him the satisfaction of hurting you. You kept your eyes open even thought all you wanted to do was close them and forget the pain. He pushed his heated body even more against yours. You forced your skull back against his nose, more than once this time. "I. hate. you." each word was followed by the crash of your skins.
You could hear the pain in his voice as he spoke back. A sadistic smile clearly on his face as he used his weight to squish you down. "Right back at you, angel"
You stopped hitting his face, eyes red with anger as his voice repeated inside your head. Angel, angel, angel, angel, angel. How you had missed that nickname. No, you had missed the playful way in which he used to said it. The softness of his tone every time he directed his voice to you. The way he reserved that single word just for you.
And now he had said it, again.
With one hand he kept your wrists together, using his weight to push them against the floor. He slowly moved the other hand to your cheek, cleaning the blood that had dripped down the side. His palm remained there for a moment and his head tilted to the side. He was searching for something but you couldn't understand what it was. Then he spoke, almost softly. "I'll kill you" and he sounded as if he was begging, but for what you weren't sure. It did move something inside of your half-beating heart anyway.
"I'd like to see you try" you muttered back. He breathed hard and it hit your face, your temperature rising at this. Your eyes flickered all over his face, too stimulated to focus only on one part of him. His weight, his heat, his smell, his voice. Him.
Blood was smeared at the side of your mouth. His thumb moved over your lip dragging it down to inspect the injury made by your own teeth. He had always had some sort of fatish for you blood, or at least that's what you liked to call it. Maybe it was because he didn't have it anymore, actually you were almost certain of the reason. Still, you knew that now that he was looking at it so intently there wasn't much else you could do. Mostly because your own body was begging for his, even if it meant going against all your reasons.
You pushed your head forward, hinting at catching his lips. He stilled as he drowned in the idea. How much had passed? Days or ages? He couldn't tell anymore. He had been replaying those imagines inside his mind over and over, even thought he didn't want to. But a memory could never compare to the real deal. You let your head fall back to the floor. You looked at him through your eyelashes as you licked the blood off your lips.
"Stop that" he warned. His head dipped forward anyway, you almost couldn't tell if there actually was some space between your lips.
You chuckled at the battle inside his head. You could still read him like an open book. You rolled your eyes as you kept your voice low. "What?" half of your tone meant sincerity the other half meant troubles. Phosphorus couldn't decide what to accuse for drawing him in. All he could feel, hear, see, and wanting to taste, was you.
He let his head fall forward, his forehead hitting the wooden floor right at the side of your face. You looked forward, at the ceiling, as you heard him breath heavily near your ear. He murmured something under his breath. Them he pushed himself back up on his feet. "Really?" you giggled as you copied his movements. "You have to close your eyes to resist me?" you teased.
He turned his head around, looking away from you. "As if you weren't using your stupid power to make me fall in your trap" he retorted. He was uncertain of his words, but he tried to fully believe in them to sell the lie. It wasn't like he could admit to still have the hots for his ex (Who he was certain had manipulated him during the whole relationship).
You huffed in annoyance as you dusted yourself off "Keep telling yourself that".
"Why did you come here?" His whole demeanor had done a full turn. He had gone back to accusing tone and sharp voice. You could feel his hateful look being back on his face. "What did you want?" he added a moment later.
"You need to apologize to Flag" you ordered.
He let his arms open up as he questioned you "What? No!" At his words you crossed your arms over your chest, staring intensely at him "...Why?" he asked, curiously.
"Because we need him to trust us if we actually want to escape" you explained easily.
"We?" he repeated. This time you couldn't understand if it was uncertainty in his tone or something totally different.
"The team, Force M, whatever you want to call it." you specified. You threw him one last glance before you turned around to walk towards the door. "C'mon Doctor" you called.
He let his arms fall back at his side before he followed you. "I'll still try to kill you" he added before leaving his room. He had gone there hoping to find some answers about you and the way you actually worked. But he was leaving with double the questions and not even half of the answers. Why hadn't he burned through your chest and ripped out your heart when he had had the chance? Probably because he was still hoping that it was already his, that he didn't need to have it in his hands to have control over it.
Yeah, he would have never, ever talked about it out loud.
Your answer made him broke free from his thousands of thoughts. "As if I won't do the same". You tried to keep the smirk at bay, as you walked in front of him, again. Feeling his burning eyes on the back of your head.
Your words felt more like a promise than a threat. He was surprised to feel the need to hold onto that. You weren't surprised to hear, loud and clear, the fight between your brain and your heart. Forgave him for what he had done to you, his touch was enough to compensate. Make him pay for his actions, a stupid man could have never gave you the same satisfaction as seeing him ripped to shreds.
☠︎︎
It didn't take you long to reach the others. The weasel and the robot were both standing outside the door, one up on his feet the other crouched to the ground. The animal made a couple of happy noises when he saw you, his tail wagged repeatedly. "Shhh" you silenced him. Bending forward to gently pat him over his head.
"Shit." you heard Phosphorus mutter behind you.
You ignored him, instead keeping on giving attention to John. After one last scratch you tilted your head to look at the other monster. "G.I." you called "Is Flag in here?" you asked pointing to the big wooden door.
"Yes Miss [Name]" he replied robotically (Of course). "The princess is helping him take care of his injuries"
Phosphorus chuckled behind you "Oh yeah?"
You breathed in. That fucking voice. How was it possible for two word, and six letters, to have that affect on you? He had to know what he was doing. Maybe he had changed tactics. The truce was over you were back into the fight, and he had found a new way to haunt you. Well, two could play at that game.
A loud thump from the other side of the door made you get ready to jump in action, but that was before other noises followed. In fact, the grunts and moans from both the humans made it clear what was actually happening on the other side. The skeleton stepped forward, pushing his head against the wood to try and hear something more.
You crouched back down at his height to whisper in his ear. "You could be doing a lot more than jerking off to Flag like a little perv if you had had some balls." he coughed, surprised by your bold words. He gave you a glance and you heard him anxiously gulp down as he moved his focus back onto the humans.
You straightened back up and you leaned against the door, waiting for the two to finish their thing. Only then you realized that the other two monsters had also leaned forward to hear what was going on between their boss and the princess, you just hoped that they hadn't heard what had just left your mouth.
Suddenly the guard appeared, he was holding his helmet under his right arm as he looked at the four of you. "Have you seen General Flag?" he asked, there was a sense of urgency behind his tone. You caught onto that almost immediately.
"Uh, yeah, why?" spoke the skeleton without much care.
You took a good look at the armature of the man, analyzing it, as you waited for an answer. Alexei, the guard, moved his focus on you too. You watched as his look changed before your eyes, from urgent to... something that you didn't even want to consider.
Stupid you for getting too relaxed.
Phosphorus got up on his feet, his shoulder touched yours. You didn't remember standing so close to his crouching form. You watched with curiosity as he pushed himself one step forward, slightly blocking the soldier's view.
"Because he should be informed that two of your teammates have left the grounds." finally replied the guard. Eyes locked with yours. You forced your head to turn away, in the opposite direction. Breaking the eye contact and letting the effect of your powers wear off as you tried to gain back control.
"Yeah, he's, uh..." with one hand the skeleton covered the side of his mouth while with the other he pointed to the door "...In there" Moans echoed around the corridor, forcing you to hide the chuckle that was threatening to leave your throat.
The face of the guard was completely blank as he tried to step forward and open the door. A skeleton hand stopped him in his tracks. "Maybe you should just give him thirty seconds. I mean, you've seen the princess." The smile fell from your face as he kept on speaking "—I don't know how he could hold out for more than thirty seconds, do you?" he asked the guard.
Then he turned around, looking at your face as if he was asking the question directly to you. Fuck him for knowing you so well. You forced yourself to not roll your eyes and instead you kept a numb expression as you stared back at him in silence.
Weasel squealed from his spot on the ground. You patted his head. Phosphorus pretended to understand what he was saying, to you it was clear that he actually had no idea. "Ah, you got a point, Weez. He's an older guy, probably has a lot of experience." he turned his head to address the guard again "Give him a full minute."
You would've laughed, if only his comment about the princess didn't echoed inside your head. You hated your mind for betraying your own self, why did you still felt that anger for these types of situations? It wasn't like he couldn't have thoughts about other women. No, it was exactly that. Even after everything your head couldn't even begin to accept the concept of him ogling someone in front of you. Especially if that someone was a human.
"This is not funny" scolded him Alexei "Why are you smiling?"
Phosphorus moved his hands up, stopping the man from accusing him further. "Slow down, bigot. I'm a freaking skeleton." He opened up his white coat, showing his torso before moving his hand to point at his own face "It looks like I'm smiling even when I'm not."
"You are not smiling?" asked accusingly the guard.
You let out a small humorless laugh, because you still hated that skeleton, but even a blind person could have understood that he was more than amused by that whole scene. Alexei threw you a stare, something similar to a warning. You tilted your head to the side as you gave him a questioning look, daring him to do something.
"Oh, I am." Phosphorus interrupted the glances. He couldn't accept you looking in the eyes of some other man, especially if it was someone that had fallen so easily for you power. And in front of him too! "But you can't tell that." he added.
Something banged on the door behind you, it made you straighten up on your feet. You turned back to stare intently at the cracking wood as the moans of the two humans grew louder and louder. You could feel a burning look on you, the corners of your mouth turned upwards as you glanced at the skeleton. You raised your eyebrows, 'Any doubts?'. He tilted his chin 'Whatever.'
The banging finally stopped as something clattered to the ground. The grunt continued, undisturbed by your talks even if there was only a thin wall to divide you. It reminded you of when you used to be on the other side of doors, trying to keep quiet as to not alert any guard all while he burned your skin to ashes.
The soldier sighed "May I knock now?"

"You should've let Alexi tell me the Bride and Nina were gone." Rick zipped up his fly as he scolded Phosphorus for his lack of care. It was evident that he still had his doubts about you all, even thought you had convinced the skeleton to say the magic words as soon as Flag had came out of the room.
You walked looking forward as you tried to ignore the conversation, Gi and Weasel were at your sides and they both seemed pretty unbothered by everything so you tried to do the same. The difference was that they didnt had their shitty ex in the team— Also one was a robot with no feelings and the other a strange hybrid that clearly didn't even know that he was still alive.
Said ex sighed loudly. "Sue me for being a bro and doing you a favor." You could already see where this was going, his high pitched tone, the exaggerated movements. He was ready to play the part of the victim and manipulate the man (Just like you had taught him...)
"Some favor." spoke back the human.
"Seems, according to you, I can't do anything right." You rolled your eyes at the skeleton words, he was actually playing that card? You didn't took him for the desperate type. You had simply asked him to win back the man, nothing more. But of course he couldn't listen to you and he had to blow it all up. "And here I was, hoping to get the favor back." he added under his breath, you ignored him as you stepped forward.
Rick opened the gate as he kept talking. "Oh, I'd forego the martyr complex, considering two hours ago, you were trying to murder me." he stopped on his tracks, turning around to get in the skeleton's face. You stilled too, right at their side, keeping a bored look on your face and your eyes on the human. Fuck your body for betraying you.
The robot suddenly spoke from behind you "Is this one a dirty nazi, General?" he asked pointing at Phosphorus. His hand turned into a gun as he waited for an answer.
You quickly looked at the human, smiling with big eyes full of hope, he met your look and for a moment you saw something change inside of it. Then you slightly furrowed your eyebrows, focusing more on not using your powers. And he rolled his eyes at your expression. "No, he's not a nazi, G.I."
You and the robot sighed together in sadness. "Oh, okay."
The skeleton followed your boss, you ignored him as you patted G.I.'s back. "Don't worry, we'll find one soon" he stared at you for a moment before both him and John walked towards the car. You followed behind, they circled the vehicle to enter from the other side as you opened the back door.
You found Phosphorus smiling widely at you. You rolled your eyes and you tried to close the door on his face but he succeeded on stopping you, with one hand he grabbed your waist and he forced you to sit on his lap. You froze up as you held onto the back of Rick's seat. You gave the skeleton an angry look from the corner of your eyes. "Chill sweetheart" he taunted as he made his body temperature higher "There's no more space"
You looked around, noticing that the car was actually full and there wasn't much to do about it. Of course some other way that didn't involve you sitting on his lap probably existed, but you were both too bitter to even consider it and let the other know about your awkwardness. Instead you rolled your shoulders as you muttered to yourself "'Chill' As if you weren't two-thousands degrees"
You swore your heard him snicker against your back, but you did your best to brush it off. The car had started and Alexei was driving, following the trackers in both Nina and Bride's necks. You were actually angry with them, first Phosphorus and now those two, all trying to ruin your escape plan. If Rick found them outside, simply playing around or trying to run away, there was no tell what he would have done. Just telling Amanda Waller would have meant the worst for you all.
Suddenly Rick's radio emitted a static sound and a voice followed. "General Flag, come in." The woman's voice was easily recognizable. And even through the distance and the robotic noises of the radio you could hear the worry behind her tone.
The man must have heard it too, he grabbed his own device as he answered the call as fast as he could. "Nina? What the hell are—"
He was interrupted by the fish-girl, who once again frantically spoke. She was trying her best to keep her emotions at bay so that what she said could be heard loud and clear and her next words made your eyebrows shoot up. "We're being attacked by Circe and her troops. We—" This time it was her who didn't get to finish the phrase.
The line went silent and Flag tried to reach back to her. "Nina! Nina, come in." He shouted into the radio, but the only answer were the radio statics. When he understood that he wouldn't have got much else from the device he decided to turn his shouts to the driver. "Floor it!" he ordered.
And as the engine revved loudly, worry grew inside of you. Her voice repeated over and over inside your mind, her deep breaths, the fast way in which she had talked. They had been found by Circe. And her stupid followers were there too. All you could do now—other then hope that Alexei was a really good driver—was hope that Bride was as much of a badass as she looked, because you didn't had any idea what Nina could be hiding behind her soft gazes, but if what you had seen on the news was true, they were definitely going to need it.
