Five

Louisa Lloyd

"Have you ever wondered what you did wrong to make everyone else unhappy?"

Letting our doubts and fears out isn't easy. Try doing this with a best friend and roommate like Annabeth and you're screwed.

"Define wrong."

"Like having visions of your old friends gathered around a public pool, watching a dead body floating around in the water."

Anna sits still on the other side of my bed as I continue laying down, eyes closed, playing the scene I've watched a hindered times already, over and over again.

It's going to happen tonight. I'm sure. The moon is shining upon the scene as I stand behind to watch, like every other time I've witnessed this.

It feels like I'm in a movie, watching the actors and actresses play their parts.

Stiles looks over a young man's body in the lifeguard chair.

"It's like the frickin' Shining over here. If two little girls walked out and asked me to come play with them forever and ever I seriously would not be surprised." He's talking on the phone with Scott. The conversation never changes.

"Can you look a little closer? Make sure it was them." Scott says from the phone.

"Make sure? Who else is ripping out throats around here?"

"Please, just look."

Stiles steps closer to the body to discover an interesting detail. A ring on the young man's finger. Leaning close, Stiles reads the single word inscribed on it: PURITY.

"Huh..."

"STOP!" I yell and cover my eyes with my hands, startling Anna, who jumps in the air and cusses violently.

"Lou..." She pats my back but I hug my legs against my chest and bury my head on my knees.

"Please leave me alone for a while." I beg.

Knowing her like I do, she won't leave this room until I tell her exactly what's troubling me. Anna sits by my side, forgetting the freaky experience we were having, and waits for me to clam down. I don't know if I can do that. I feel the fangs against my sealed lips and my eyes burning behind my tightly shut eyelids.

A grunt escapes my lips as I leave my spot on the bed and slowly walk towards the window. It's a good thing we don't have any neighbors or else they would witness one of the scarier things in their lives.

I let out an angry roar after opening the window and hear Anna trembling in fear behind me. Violent sobs rock my body, and I don't want to let Anna see me like this anymore. All I want to do is jump out of this room and run for my life, getting my head out of the vision I just had.

But Anna has another plan for me, unfortunately involving me staying inside the house and Annabeth trying to somehow comfort me.

"I get it. It's hard being a badass werewolf slash Seer. Okay I get it. You don't have to shut me out, just tell me what's wrong and maybe I can help."

"Do you regret anything in your life?"

"Y-yes." Anna says, her hands reaching for my shaky shoulders. "I actually regret a lot of things, not just one."

"I regret leaving Beacon Hills in the first place. I would have never witnessed those Omegas' deaths, I wouldn't have become an killer and an Alpha, I would still be in a relationship with Isaac and in touch with my old friends. Now..." I whisper the next words carefully. "The only good thing that has happened to me in the last few months was meeting you. They all hate me now..."

"I feel honored that you think of me as a good friend, you're my best friend too." Anna turns me around to face her. She doesn't even flinch at the sight of me in werewolf form. "I know the pain of being doubted by everyone around you. It ravages the soul. But you're stronger than anyone I've ever met before. I believe in you."

I smile through my tears and hug her tightly to my chest, feeling the transformation slowly retreat until I'm the normal Louisa again.

"Im so lucky to have you."

"Likewise, Lou."

•^•^•^•^•^•

I hear voices as I run down the hill and into the deep, dark forest of Beacon Hills. Nighttime is definitely the best time to go for a run and clear your head. That's why I chose to run tonight.

That and the fact Stiles and the rest of my old friends are going to find the dead body. And I know for a fact I'm going to find Derek, Scott and Isaac somewhere around here in ten minutes. I just have to follow their scents and voices.

They're easier to find than the chocolates Anna hides on her bedroom when she doesn't want me to steal them and eat them without her permission.

She has a secret stash inside her bedside table, just under her diary. How do I know that's a diary, you might ask? Well, I read it.

I'm not even sorry.

Derek and Isaac watch Scott finish the call with Stiles. The call I remember from my visions. He turns and gives them a reluctant nod.

"This doesn't make sense. The public pool is on the other side of the woods. We haven't tracked them anywhere near there." Derek paces around the small area they're standing on.

"Derek... They killed someone." Scott tries to reason with him.

I move closer to the edge of the tree, careful to keep my body in the shadows.

"But how are they moving so fast?" Derek keeps in pacing and mumbling under his breath.

"Derek-" Scott is soon interrupted by Derek.

"They can't be that fast on foot."

"They killed someone. Someone totally innocent is dead and it's our fault."

"It's my fault." Derek stops and stares at his too pack members. At least the ones that remain sane.

"We need help."

"We have Isaac now."

"I mean real help." Scott says and quickly turns to Isaac. "No offense."

"Not exactly sure how I could take that any other way." My heart stops beating for a fraction of second when his soft yet sarcastic voice reaches my ears.

"They're too strong for us. All of us. They're too fast, too rabid-"

"That's why you need my help." I step forward from the dark and cross my arms in front of my chest, interrupting Derek and feeling their wide eyes on me.

I feel Isaac's gaze burning a hole behind my back as Derek walks towards me, fast like a bullet.

"What are you doing here?" He shakes me until I'm pretty much as dizzy as I've ever been. He shouts in my face but I don't react. In his perspective- and I believe in everyone else's- I left them to fend for themselves when they needed me the most. I'll just let him take his anger out on me. "I could kill you right now."

"Do it." I feel my own anger bubbling inside my blood. "I dare you."

Derek flashes his bright red eyes and I snort, showing him that we're equal in this fight. I may have been born a werewolf but I've learnt so many thing in the past few months. I can take him down at any time.

"Thad what I thought." I slap his hands away when he falters and I see the real intentions behind his eyes.

"I'm going to ask again, and it's going to be the last time." Derek's eyes turn back to their natural color and I can feel his arms relax just a little. "Why are you here?"

"You're in need of professional help." I simply answer and wait for their replies and harsh comments.

It takes Scott five seconds to react.

"Who says we need your help?"

"Are you blind? Or did you forget I was there when Boyd and Cora escaped? They're roaming this city and causing chaos. You can't catch them alone."

"We are not alone. You're not the only one with a powerful pack." Derek crosses his arms in front of his chest and huffs.

"Your pack only has one alpha and the rest of its members are betas. My pack has six alphas."

"Numbers..." Scott whispers. "Sometimes numbers don't mean a thing against a small but well built group."

"I'm sorry to say this but your pack isn't a well built group." I roll my eyes and about Isaac's intense gaze at all cost. "Erica is dead, Boyd is going nuts and the three of you can't eliminate my pack. What makes you think Deucalion is going to wait until you have a 'well built group'? He wants you all dead."

"Does that mean tou want us dead as well? Just because he's the bigger alpha and that's his wish?" Derek steps in front of me and stares down at my eyes.

"No. I don't want any of my friends dead. But you..." I raise my chin and meet his eyes. "I want you dead for my own reasons."

He gulps nervously as if realizing the reason why I want him gone and buried six feet underground. Maybe he doesn't know the real reason behind my sudden sour feelings towards him.

After realizing Deucalion is not the man I thought he was, I begin to question everything he has ever told me; and it includes the mysterious death of my foster family.

"I'm gonna explain what I want from you. Yes, I have a few intentions behind my actions." I stare at Derek's eyes as I speak. "I'll help you with everything you need, but you have to promise me something."

Derek doesn't say anything and shares a glance with Scott who nods, I can see him and Isaac from the corner of my eyes. Then, after receiving his pack's opinions, Derek nods at me.

"There's a friend I brought with me from New York. I know Deucalion is going to hurt her if he finds out I'm betraying him." Derek, Isaac and Scott all look at me with sad eyes. "Don't let him hurt her if he gets a hold of me."

"He won't get a hold of you." Isaac says and I look at him directly in the eyes for the first time in months. "We won't let that happen."

"None of you can stop Deucalion when he wants something. If he wanted me in his pack a few months ago, he won't let me go without a fight."

"He searched for you?" Scott asks, confused.

"I found him in my room back in New York. He knew everything about me and- yeah, he searched for me."

Changing the subject is something someone needs to do right now. I can't take another awkward question about my life.

Derek coughs and I smirk at his uncomfortable posture, his hands hanging by his side and mouth hanging open.

"We'll catch them." Derek believes his words. I'm not so sure.

"But what happens if we do? Are we just going to hold them down until the sun comes up?" Isaac argues.

"No, we tie them up. Find somewhere to keep them..." The sentence dies in his throat. The futility of the situation is already bearing down on him. And me too. "Maybe it would be easier to just kill them."

"Killing them isn't the right thing to do." Scott and I say at the same time. He smiles at me. I don't smile back.

"What if it's the only thing? If we don't know how to catch them, what else do we do?" Isaac's voice reaches my ears again and every time he speaks I want to turn around and smack my lips against his.

"We find someone who knows what they're doing." Scott adds. "Besides Louisa."

There's a small tug on my heart when he calls me Louisa. Never has he ever called me that. Only Lou. And sometimes other uncomfortable and cute nicknames.

"Who?"

"Someone who knows how to hunt werewolves." Scott smirks at our faces.

"Oh no." I whisper and hit my face with my hands.

"Oh yes." Scott claps his hands and turns to me. "And you're coming with me. I won't let you out of my sight again."

I huff in annoyance but I'm glad he chose not to stay mad at me and ignore me. Like Isaac is doing right now. It's not like I'm going to bite him or anything, I know I was mean for leaving. But don't blame me for putting their safety first.

"What are we supposed to do now? It's dark, how do you want to find Argent when he's probably in the safety of his house?" I ask, rubbing my hands through my tired face.

"I know exactly where he is." Scott says and turns to Derek. "Where's your car?"

Closing my eyes, I channel every energy inside from body to my mind, urging it to start working and show me a glimpse of the future.

When it does, I open my eyes and smile.

"I think I know where they're going next."

"Fine, do as you wish." Scott huffs and raises his hands in the air. "You better not quit this task or I'll find you and hurt you."

"I'm so scared." Rolling my eyes and flashing them a bright smile, I add one last thing. "Meet me near the school when you're ready to catch them."

I leave the three boys behind, the Alpha of they're pack cursing the day I entered their lives.

•^•^•^•^•^•

Their presence behind me doesn't go unnoticed by my enhanced senses, and a determined Isaac reaches for my hand and pulls me back to the shadows.

"Why?" It's the first thing he asks.

"Why what?" He lets go of my arm and I sigh.

"You left us... You left me..." His soft breath hits the side of my face as I turn away from him and eye the windows of the school.

"When I promise something, I never ever break that promise. Ever." I start, sweat forming on my forehead. "I promised I would protect everyone I love and that's what I did. Every single one of you would have died had I stayed."

"We would have found a way to help you-"

"Don't you understand?!" I scream on top of my lungs. "The only one who could have helped was me. And I did it by leaving you, by staying away from you. I saw your dead body near Scott's and Stiles' own corpses. Do you know how hard that was?"

He doesn't answer and I take that as my cue to move away from him and do something useful to help Scott and Derek catch Boyd and Cora.

"Open your eyes now before you get hurt." I whisper before leaving him behind once again.

I believe he is now used to seeing me walk away from him. When is he going to give up and leave me behind, watching his shadow slowly fade away?

I meet Scott halfway towards the doors. Gripping the handlebar to the school's front doors, Scott takes a breath and pulls back. The lock breaks with a metal wrenching and the doors swing free.

Isaac steps in to help prop them open. Trap set, we back off, hurrying to take positions about the school. Isaac and I avoid each other at all cost.

By the edge of the parking lot, Argent places his gadget in the ground. We approach, noticing Argent focused on something.

"Look." Argent says. Scott and I follow his eyes to a soft glow moving about the shadows. "You see that?"

"It's a firefly." Scott whispers, answering his question.

"I know." Argent keeps a curious eye on the glowing bug.

"What?" I ask.

"It's just really unusual. California fireflies aren't bioluminescent." The hunter says, looking down at his hand, thinking. "They don't glow."

"Does that mean something?"

Before Argent can respond, they hear a wolf's howl. A signal.

"They're coming."

Scott backs up with me right next to him, both of us moving for cover. I look to the side.

Trying to hold my nervous breath, I cover my mouth with my hand and look at Scott, who looks like he just discovered the most important thing in the world.

Scott rushes past Argent to look up.

"They're not going through the school..." Scott calmly says. "They're going over it."

"What?" I ask, really confused.

Argent and Scott race up the steps to join Derek as he rushes out from the lobby. I stay behind, admiring their figures before something snaps inside my brain.

Help them, you dumbass.

All of them glance about the roof for Boyd and Cora. I reach them in under five seconds and wait for someone to speak and explain what we're supposed to do next.

"The rear doors, we need to get them open." Allison's father says.

With a nod, Derek disappears back into the school.

"Someone has to drive them inside."
Argent pulls a stun baton from his jacket.

"I'll go."

"I'm faster." Isaac says.

"I'm faster and stronger." I cross my arms in front of my chest and nod.

Whirling around without giving me a chance to act, Isaac tears off for the other side of the building.

I run inside the school and find exactly what I need- or who I need- right in front of me in the middle of the corridor

Blinking furiously, Boyd and Cora stagger into the darkened corridor where Derek grabs Cora. He shoves her back with brutal force, sending the snarling werewolf tumbling across the tile floor.

Boyd whirls to attack but I move in, and do what I do best. Punch the living hell out of him, then pining him against the wall and staring down at his face with my Alpha mode on.

It feels awesome being this powerful.

Boyd lashes out, but Argent whips the baton around like a trained swordsman. He presses forward, turning the furious werewolf around to face Scott who surges out of the darkness with fangs bared.

"Come on! This way."

Derek holds his hands out, gesturing for Boyd and Cora to approach. Scott inches over to Derek to help.

Back on his feet and almost shaking with rage, Boyd steps to Cora's side. Fangs bared, the two of them slowly approach.

"Come and get us." I yell as Cora and Boyd charge forward.

Scott and Derek turn to run, with me in front of them, leading them through the corridor and racing down the stairwell into darkness.

My glowing red eyes are the only visible thing in the darkness we're being surrounded by. Boyd and Cora move snapping about in search of prey when two fire extinguishers blast white fumes at them.

I don't know who did it but it was brilliant. Simply brilliant.

Hands rising to shield their faces, Boyd and Cora howl in response. Now that I pay more attention to my left side, I see Derek and Scott usei g the extinguishers to force them back, pushing them all the way into the Boiler Room.

Dropping the extinguisher, Scott slams the door shut as Derek shoves a steel desk in front of it. They turn to each other, breathless.

"Did that actually just work?" Scott asks, surprised.

"It worked." Derek says and I nod, proud of them for thinking about that.

A frenetic pounding jolts us back. From the other side, Boyd and Cora hammer on the door uselessly.

After a moment, the pounding ceases. Under the ominous silence, Derek and Scott lean closer to listen. They glance to me, all of us noticing the odd quiet. Cautiously, Scott presses his ear to the surface of the door.

"What do you hear?" I ask quietly.

"Heartbeats."

"Both of them."

"Actually... Three of them." I add, glueing my ear to the door. "There's something there with them."

Derek shoves me and the desk aside, and reaches to open the door. Scott grabs him, trying to stop him.

"What are you doing?"

"Shut the door behind me. Keep it shut." Derek orders.

"You go in there alone and you're either going to kill them or they're going to kill you." Scott says. I don't interfere, waiting for them to settle down so I can help.

"That's why I'm going alone." Derek yanks the door open.

Scott and I lean against the boiler room door, listening to the crashing, the cries of pain, a veritable symphony of destruction happening inside.

We share an apprehensive look. What if Derek needs our help and we're here just guarding the door?

"What time is it?" I ask, a sour feeling finding its way up my spine.

"No idea." He searches around for his phone inside his pockets but his hands come out empty. "I think I left my phone in Argent's car."

"Nice." I sigh, knowing too well where my phone is right now.

Charging. In my room.

"Scott! Louisa!" I hear the distant sound of someone calling for us.

My questions triggered something inside both of us, and Isaac's frantic shouts too I guess. We pull the boiler room open as Isaac races down the stairs.

We both stop in shock when we see the bloody mess inside.

Breathing hard- but still breathing- a brutally beaten Derek slowly raises his eyes. Cora and Boyd lie before him. Both alive and transformed back to their human selves.

"There's... a teacher... back there. I'll take care of her." Derek speaks with difficulty.

Rising, he falters. Scott starts forward to catch him, but Derek steadies on his own.

"Get these two out of here." With out hesitation, he speaks louder. "Go."

Scott and Isaac hurry over to pick Cora and Boyd up. They can take care of those two. Derek isn't strong enough to fight on his own right now.

"Go, I'm staying." I tell the two Betas as they nod and disappear with the two fallen werewolves.

"No you're not." He whispers slowly.

"Yes I am, you look like you're about to pass out and I want to help."

Derek turns to the closed door of the storage closet. The teacher Derek told us about is hiding inside, cowering in fear.

I can totally sense her emotions, and as Derek opens the door, she grabs something to protect herself.

Derek steps inside. My teacher gasps as her weapon slips from her grasp as he gently extends a hand to help her up.

"Hey Ms. Blake." I wave when they both emerge from the small room.

She gasps once again when her eyes land on me and I smile sheepishly.

It's going to be a long ride home.

"I'll take Ms. Blake home, you can go Louisa." Derek sends me a thankful smile and I can't help but feel something inside of me change with this sign of gratitude. "Thank you."

"You're welcome." I nod and reach for the door. Looking back, I notice his eyes are still fixated on me. "What do you want, dimwit?"

"Nothing." He smiles.

"I'm surrounded by idiots." I mumble and walk away from the school, from the problems and from everyone I don't want to talk to.

I find Annabeth sitting on the couch waiting for me, her sleeping figure greeting me as I close the door. The tv is still on, her favorite movie paused right before the two main characters kiss.

Using my strength, I take her upstairs to her room, covering her body with the soft sheets on her bed. Her room is similar to mine, only hers has deep purple walls and dark furniture. I sigh, feeling today's emotions and events crashing down on me.

Walking the few steps to my own bedroom, I fall face first on my bed and close my eyes, sleep finding me in less that a minute.

•^•^•^•^•^•

"What am I doing here?"

Scott and Stiles both stare at me, Stiles a little angry. Understandable. He's still mad at me. Completely understandable.

After only a couple of hours of sleep, I'm ripped from my deep slumber by Scott's call, demanding my presence at the hospital's morgue.

In the dimly lit room, an exhausted Scott and Stiles over the body of Heather- the girl I saw in my vision that called out Stiles' name- in front of us.

"So Boyd and Cora might not have killed anyone?" Scott starts.

"You're going to wish they did."

"Why?"

"I'm not totally sure yet, but that other girl who was out in the woods, Emily? They're eventually going to find her..."

Stiles covers Heather's body and looks up to Scott.

"It's called the Threefold Death." He explains.

"So if they're not random killings, what are they?" Scott asks and I'm slightly afraid of the answer.

"Sacrifices. Human sacrifices." Stiles says as calmly and slowly as possible.

Deep in thought, I search my mind for any piece of information Deucalion told me, and I find nothing related to these killings.

"Do you think my pack is behind these killings?" I ask, looking at the girl's covered body.

"I don't know." Stiles scratches the back of his head. "Bu-"

"Just be careful around your new pack. With your new alliance with us... You're probably going to be next if they're the ones behind the deaths."

I close my eyes and bang my head against the wall. What have I done?
