Louisa Lloyd

Sunlight slips from the heavy curtains covering my window. My phone rings, showing it's time to wake up and face everyone again. Oh wait. Im not going to school today. Finally something positive happening in my life.

As if knowing something horrible is going to happen today, my body decides to stop cooperating with me and everything hurts. I can't move a muscle.

A vision.

There's a girl, a cute blonde girl standing inside a wine cellar. Bare feet stepping across the floor, the girl pulls out a bottle of wine to glance at its label. She pushes it back into its slot and reaches for another when bottles clink against each other. Almost like the room had been shaken by the lightest tremor from an earthquake.

She glances about, eyeing the shadows, the dim light from the stairs.

"Stiles?"

Stiles? How does she know him? Are they, you know, doing it like rabbits? Because girls like her only want one thing, and that thing is sex.

Is she Stiles' girlfriend? Wow, my buddy is growing up. So proud...

A row of bottles rumble, sides knocking against each other. Her eyes dart from row to row, landing on one bottle. Which slowly begins to turn.

Breath caught, she watches the bottle make a slow turn as if someone were twisting it around from

The bottle pushes out of the rack, crashing to the floor in a puddle of wine and glass shards.
The girl flinches back with a surprised gasp. Then holds still in the silence, trying to peer into the shadows to find whoever's responsible.

"Okay, that's not funny." She says breathlessly. And super scared as I can see from my place near the door.

Behind her, a bottle hurtles out of its rack and smashes to the floor next to the first. She jumps back as droplets of red wine splatter her arms.

Another bottle crashes down. One flies off its shelf exploding against the opposite rack.

Hands up to shield herself, this poor blonde girl whirls around, bare feet stepping into broken glass. As she cries out in pain, another bottle explodes to the floor.

She stumbles across the shards, blood mixing with wine. Her back hits the wall as she's literally hemmed in by smashing bottles.

And then it stops.

Shaking, tears running down her cheeks from both fear and pain, the girl does not notice she's backed herself right underneath a window.

Hearing a creak of metal, she gazes up to find the window opening above her as she is lifted right off the floor. With a muffled scream, her bloodied feet are dragged up, kicking against the wall.

I scream alongside her but this time I'm already on my bed. I don't get to see the end of it all. Sometimes, I get to travel with the victim of my most recent vision and live with her or him for a few minutes.

Good thing I'm not going to school today.

Slamming my hand against my phone to stop the alarm from blaring and worsening my already pulsing headache, I reach for the light switch behind my bed and turn the light on.

It's time to get ready for the day.

After taking a shower, I stand in front of the fogged mirror and clean it with my bare hand. My own reflection stares back at me and I can affirm I don't recognize myself anymore. My hair is too shiny, my skin too perfect, my eyes too bright. Everything about me screams inhuman. I don't know who or what to blame: the Seer side of me or the werewolf who changed me.

Deep down, I know I'm thankful for what I am now, what I've achieved and the milestones I've reached. But it's moments like this that make me doubt many choices in my life.

Wearing all black to match me mood, I brush my hair until it's completely straight and gather it in a tight ponytail, the long hair cascading down my back because of its length.
I have to cut it soon, it's not comfortable to be a badass werewolf and kiss ass when your hair is on the way.

I'm not hungry, due to the task at hand and the unpleasant vision I had a couple minutes ago, so I just get my bag from my bed and run downstairs.

But I'm greeted by Annabeth standing at the end of the staircase waiting for me. She has something to ask me, I can smell it-it's so weird to say this- but I can feel it's going to be bad. And she won't taking a no for an answer.

"I want to go." Anna says as she gets her bag from the couch and stands next to me on the door.

"No."

"Yes."

"No, Anna. It's dangerous."

"You're going to be there with me." Anna grabs my arm and pulls me to the car. "Besides, I bet your hot friends are going to show up."

"What hot friends?"

"The twins."

"No, their shift is tonight."

"Damn." She sighs and I laugh.

Anna has been developing a crush on both twins. Both of them. Even though Ethan is gay and has his eyes set on a certain boy. Danny boy. But I'll never tell her that, at least not now.  I respect my boy's privacy above all.

"Do you still want to go then?"

"Nothing is going to stop me now." She looks up at the clear sky and sighs. "You're driving."

"Obviously." Getting the keys from her outstretched hand, I sit on he driver's seat and caress the steering wheel. "I've missed you, baby."

"Only you to talk to the car." She rolls her eyes at me but laughs. Her laugh is very cute, and she seems to enjoy my company.

She wouldn't ran away from me after finding out I'm a werewolf if she didn't like me.

"Ready to face some badass werewolves?"

From what I've gathered about Anna in the past months, she isn't someone you want to mess with. She always gets what she wants, when she wants it, and can be very dangerous when angry. That's why I didn't really made a scene about her wanting to come with me.

She would come anyway.

The abandoned bank is situated in the middle of nowhere. Meaning: I have to drive towards the forest area, park somewhere no one can find my car and then walk the remaining distance.

Anna wasn't please with the last part, but it's her fault for wanting to come and ignoring my warnings.

"You..." Anna says breathlessly. "Are insane!"

"How am I insane? You were the one eager to come."

"I didn't know we would have to walk miles and miles and miles to get there."

"Cmon, it's not that far away." I point to our left as she decides to rest for a little while. "We're almost there. See that enormous building there?"

She nods and I pat her back, smiling, my breath steady and arms relaxed around my torso. Perks of being a powerful Alpha.

Unfortunately, the smile is quickly erased from my face as the 'perks of being a Seer' shadow over the 'perks of being an Alpha'. The incessant visions, the painful results and the fact I can do something to stop them and choose not to are things I don't really want to think about.

So I just shake my head to interrupt my thoughts and smiles brightly at a tired Annabeth.

"Ready to go now, lazy ass?"

"What did you call me?" Anna instantly raised from her seated position on tops of a random rock and starts running after me.

If only I had known this was all it took for her to start running, I would have done it sooner.

Using my werewolf strength and speed, I'm sitting in front of the bank in less than five seconds, patiently waiting for Anna to catch up.

"Aren't you supposed to be in school?" Anna asks, bending over her knees to let her body rest on the cold stairs.

"Pack stuff comes first." I pick on some grass growing in the middle of the stairs. "Deucalion is a strict guy."

"So I've noticed." I look at her from the corner of my eye to see her rolling her eyes at the trees in front of us. "He almost ripped your head off when you told him you wouldn't kill any of your former friends."

"I have morals." But I lost most of them along the way.

"Yeah right." She pats my back as she raises to her feet once again. "Give me more of that bullshit, I love it."

I'm so tired of rolling my eyes at her but it's so necessary in moments like this. She's being a little brat.

"So." She starts. "What are we supposed to do now?"

"We?"

"Yes, we. I'm here as well." She says.

"Well, I have to walk around and inspect every little corner of this magnificent building to make sure no one tries to invade it when no one is around."

Anna's shocked face only makes the amusement I'm feeling increase. It's obviously a lie, the only thing I do when patrolling is sitting inside on an old couch we keep for 'many reasons' according to Kali, and wait for my shift to end. It normally doesn't take more than two hours for Kali or Ennis to come and continue the job. They're the most unoccupied ones as they don't have jobs and just have sex all day.

Oh yeah, I know what they in the dark.

"No way." Anna says under her breath. "I can't believe I came here and wasted so many calories to walk around for hours."

I can't hold it anymore and start laughing at her face. She just looks so angry at herself for coming with me. And I love how affected she is by my jokes. She didn't even realize I was smiling like crazy as I said those words.

"I hate you." She screams as she follows me to the old red couch inside.

"I love you too."

•^•^•^•^•^•

"I'm feeling so bad." I huff. "I don't think I want to do this anymore."

Annabeth listens, carefully driving me to school. She'll need the car for the day as she's going to find a job.

"Want to skip school and help me find a suitable job?" Anna offers and I'm ready to decline when Scott and Stiles turn to look at me as she parks the car near the front doors.

The two boys start making their way to the car when I nod my head at her and hit her on the arm repeatedly.

"Definitely." Anna speeds away as I finish speaking and I sigh in relief.

I'm not ready for a confrontation. I don't think I'll ever be ready.

But as I was suspecting, we searched for jobs for a few minutes until Anna was too tired to continue. So we went back home and watched movies all day. A Harry Potter marathon was the highlight of my day.

But a simple phone call ruined my mood in an instant.

"I'll be there." I sigh and rub my forehead.

"I know." Deucalion hangs up and I hit my head against the pillow on my bed.

"Was that Deucalion?"

"Yes."

"What does he want now?"

"What do you think he wants?" I ask, grabbing a random shirt from my wardrobe and putting my shoes on. "I'll be home late. Don't wait for me."

"Kay." Anna is already lost on her phone and I smile.

Now I have to go. I shake my head.

I'm not supposed to be here. My shift was yesterday morning, as I missed school to watch out for your prisoners. But when Deucalion wants stuff, Deucalion always gets what he wants.

It's so dark outside that an ordinary human would not be able to see a thing. Thank you, dear werewolf powers.

The glass doors of the bank feel like a prison. I gently press a hand to the door and give a light push. The door swings slowly open. As always. It's like the door recognizes whoever is coming and opens with only one simple touch.

Knowing my Pack members, that's probably exactly what they did.

There's not even a tiny source of light, not even a window inside their room. But there's a small opening at the door of our prisoners' room and I look inside. In the shadowy, barely lit vault, Boyd paces, unable to stand still as time ticks away. Past him, sits a young woman with her knees pulled close to her chest.

Cora Hale.

It took everything inside me not to tell Derek his sister is alive. But then I remembered what he did to my family and quickly forgot about the sympathy I felt and hatred started do surface again.

Carefully moving around a corner, I peer about the cavernous bank. There's someone here with me. And it's not a werewolf that I know. In fact, this person is pretty human, normal.

Making sure my body is well hidden in the shadows behind the pile of boxes stashed near Boyd and Cora's door, I peer over the boxes and smile.

Allison.

She turns her back on me and something hurtles out of he shadows.

Reflexes kicking in, Allison brings her hands up to defend herself. But the person moves faster and more gracefully than her. The blows come quick, two dark shapes striking out with well-trained precision until Allison slams against a wall, an elbow pressed to her throat.

She blinks in surprise at her assailant.

"Ms. Morrell?"

I didn't see that coming. I only felt and heard one person. Allison. Not this Ms. Morrell. Who is she? According to Allison, she is probably a figure of authority.

Ms. Morrell takes a quick glance down the corridor to make sure they're alone.

You're not, lady.

"Keep your mouth shut and listen close. You have no idea what you just stepped into. Right now, you've got maybe twenty seconds to get your ass hidden."

"What are you doing-"

"There's a storage closet down the hall. Get in there. Lock the door. When you hear the fighting start, that's when you come out."

"What fighting?"

"You'll hear it. Now go."

"Of course she will." I come out of the shadows and stand in front of them with my arms crossed in front of my chest.

Morrell steps back, releasing Allison. Confused, Allison retreats back as instructed while Morrell hurries towards me in the opposite direction.

"Bring it on." Ms. Morrell taunts me. "You're just their pawn. You're not even an Alpha."

Moving faster than humanly possible, and faster than any other normal Beta, I stand face to face with this audacious woman.

"Think twice, sweetheart." Flashing her my beautifully haunting red eyes, I land a punch on her stomach and send her flying behind.

She quickly runs away when she manages to get to her feet. I let her go. My pack's scent is strong enough to guess they're going to find her in less than ten seconds. I don't know who she is or who she works with, but I'll kill her the next time she crosses my path.

Closing my eyes, I can feel them.

Two bare feet pause in the corridor. While Ennis and Deucalion continue forward, Kali glances back.

She cocks her head and then breathes in the air, trying to catch a scent. After a moment, though, she shrugs it off and moves to catch up to the others. She just felt my scent. Now all she has to do is feel Ms. Morrell's scent. And she's done.

I smile.

Allison and Ms. Morrell aren't the only intruders here tonight. Walking down the corridor again and examining the debt on the wall from when I threw Morrell against it. I think I was a little too harsh.

Who am I trying to fool, it felt amazing to throw her away from me so easily after she underestimated my powers.

Hiding once again behind the immense boxes that cover my slim figure, my eyes fixate in the bodies in front of me.

They enter the wide corridor and look at the door of the room I know Boyd and Cora are being held in. I just peered inside a few minutes ago.

A thin shaft of light falls over the interior stone of the vault. The wall shakes with a low boom, something hitting it from the outside. Another hit and a crack ripples through the stone. With a sudden crunch, a fist smashes through. Stone crumbling down, Derek bursts into the dark vault.

Right behind him, Scott tumbles in through a dissipating cloud of dust. Rising in the dark, Derek's hand falls on on his chest, holding him back.

"Boyd?"

I can see everything from my new hiding spot: right next to the door, as I'm not able to block their exit if something does wrong and until someone gets here to help.

From the opposite side of the room, a dark shape inches forward. A hulking figure, its breath harsh and ragged.

"Boyd, it's me. It's Derek."

A buzzing snaps my attention to Scott's pocket. He fumbles for his phone.

"Stiles, now is not a good time-"

"Scott, you gotta' get out of there." Stiles' muffled voice is heard from the other side of the call and I smile.

Here's for another awkward but amazing encounter, and here's another amazing entrance for me.

"The walls of the vault, they're made with a mineral called hecatolite. It scatters the moonlight." Stiles warns. Well, I didn't know that.

"What? What does that mean?"

Derek takes a cautious step toward two figures in the dark. One is Boyd, struggling to keep the transformation at bay.

"We're here to get you out." Derek explains as Scott recedes back, cell phone pressed to his ear as he listens to Stiles trying to explain. I tune their conversation out and keep me eyes glued to Scott and Derek's backs.

When Deucalion's name is heard from the phone- coming from a man whose I don't recognize- I listen to the rest of the conversation.

"Deucalion's kept them from shifting
for three full moons, diminishing their tolerance to it." I didn't know they've been keeping them here for so long.

"They're going to be stronger-"

"More savage, more blood-hungry. They're the lions, Scott. They're the starved lions and you and Derek just stepped into the coliseum."

"Derek. We got a problem. Really big
problem."

But Derek is no longer moving, a look of shock spreading across his face.

"Cora?"

A dark-haired, beautiful young woman also struggling against the moon steps into the light.

"Derek, get out. Get out of here."

Scott lowers the phone even as Stiles yells through the speaker.

"Scott? Scott, are you there?"

His eyes focus on an me for a few seconds, then turning to the floor. I follow his eyes, and a powdery substance is now lining the baseboard against the wall of the vault.

"Oh damn..."

We follow the line of mountain ash to the vault door. It lies open, moonlight seeping in. A silhouetted woman appears just past the threshold of the vault. She opens her hand, letting the last bit of ash fall from her palm.

"No-no, wait!" Scott and I call out at the same time.

But even as Scott starts forward, the barrier connects, stopping him in his tracks.

On the other side of the vault, Boyd lets loose an enraged snarl, glowing yellow eyes locked on Derek. Cora's head jerks up, fangs bared as the transformation takes hold.

Claws unsheathed, Derek raises his hands to defend himself.

This is going to be an ugly fight.

Low snarls rising to vicious growls, building to a crescendo, are heard as Boyd throws himself at me and Scott standing side by side.

Scott slams to the floor, tumbling painfully. But me being an Alpha and stronger than Boyd, I throw him away from us with just one arm. He manages to scratch the back of my hand but it starts healing almost instantly.

A snarling Boyd leaps down to attack. Derek grabs him, yanking him off his feet and launching him into the air.

But then Derek lurches forward, slashed in the back by Cora. She comes at him, swiping with razor-sharp claws until Scott crashes into her, dragging her down.

Derek pulls Scott back to his feet.

"You know her?"

"My sister. Younger sister."

"What the hell's she doing here?"

"Like I have a clue? I thought she was dead."

Past us, the two werewolves-silhouetted figures with glowing yellow eyes rise for another assault.

"Oh damn." I whisper and Scott stands in front of me.

"Stay behind me." Scott orders and I raise my eyebrows at him.

"No thanks." I answer when a growling Boyd jumps in the air and throws a punch at my face.

Before it can hit me, I grab his hand and twist it around until he gives up in a whimper. Smiling in triumph, I don't notice the new flying hand until it's too late and I'm thrown across the vault, hitting my head against the wall before I even notice what happened.

Catching a scent, I turn back in surprise to see Allison standing just outside the vault door.

"Look out-"

Boyd drags Scott off his feet, smashing him against the wall. Derek turns to help, but Cora blocks his way, attacking with renewed ferocity.

Allison watches in horror as Boyd digs into Scott with his claws, dragging him up the wall.

Blood at his lips, Scott cries out in agony.
Trying to hold Cora back, Derek sees Allison approach the MOUNTAIN ASH BARRIER.

"No, don't! Allison, don't break the seal!" I yell as I get up to help Scott, as Derek is busy trying to control his own sister.

Hitting the back of Boyd's head isn't enough. He sends blind punches- as a response to my tactically thrown ones- at me until Scott is out of his grip and sliding down against the wall.

Boyd turns around raises a clawed hand for a killing strike at me. I'm clueless and powerless, glued against the wall and with no way out as Boyd is standing in front of me with his wide arms open.

"Boyd!" Allison calls out.

He spins, yellow eyes focusing on her and completely forgetting about me. Allison whips her hands across the seal. The mountain ash swirls up into the air and a break appears in the barrier.

Roaring, Boyd charges toward her. Allison whirls back behind the safety of the vault door as both Boyd and Cora hurtle out of their prison, racing for freedom.

With their feral growls growing fainter in the distance, Allison steps out from behind the door and is grabbed by Derek.

"Don't touch her." Scott yanks Derek's hand from her, locking eyes with him. Derek shakes free of Scott's grasp, glaring at Allison.

"What were you thinking?" Derek growls.

I just stand there in shock, my back slowly sliding down the wall until I'm seated against it.

Their faces become blurry as tears make their way to my wide eyes. I almost died.

"That I had to do something." Allison answers and I feel her eyes on me. "He was going to kill her."

"She saved our lives." Scott adds, proud of her.

"And what do you think they're going to do out there? You have any idea what we just set free?"

"You want to blame me? I'm not the one who turns teenagers into killers."

"No, that's the rest of your family."

"I made mistakes. But Gerard wasn't my fault."

"What about your mother?" Derek almost spits in her face. He looks pleased with the reaction he got from her.

"What? What do you mean?" She takes a step back.

"Tell her, Scott."

Allison turns to him. Hands pressed to his bloody torso, Scott falters under her questioning gaze.

"What does he mean? Scott? What does he mean?"

I don't hear the rest of the conversation. I don't want to and I can't. I'm too shocked, scared and exhausted to even move a muscle. That's when it hits me in the face.

Deucalion and the rest of my pack were in the building. And they didn't even try to help me. They were going to leave me here to die, along with Boyd, Cora, Scott and Derek. We would end up killing each other.

I bet that's exactly what he wanted.

So, as stupid as it sounds, and for the second time in just a few days, I run from them, from my past, with their fading voices calling out my name.

I seriously have to find a solution. If my own pack doesn't care about me enough to try to save me, I have no idea what I'm doing with them.

But I can't just leave. They'd somehow find ways to punish me. And I can't let that happen, because they wouldn't hurt me, at least not directly or physically. They'd make me watch every single one of my friends die.

And that's why I made a decision right here as I run back to my house to check on Anna. I have to stay with them for now.

Until I'm strong and independent enough to fight them if needed. To protect everyone. From them.

And most importantly from me.
