Three

Louisa Lloyd

"You're back!" Lydia lets her other bags fall on the floor and circles her arms around my shoulders.

"Hey..." I manage to whisper as she almost strangles me to death.

"Where have you been?" Allison, who was behind us the entire time, says.

"Hmm." I look back at Anna who took a defensive posture next to me, her arm wrapped around mine.

"I'm Annabeth, Louisa's best friend AND housemate." She sticks out her hand for the girls to shake and nods. "I hope we can become friends. Lou's friends are my friends."

She doesn't mean what she just said. She didn't like most of my friends back in New York. Anna just doesn't open up to a lot of people, she prefers being close friends with one or two people and be acquaintances with everyone else.

"Oh." Allison reacts to the title Anna used to describe herself and a hurt look crosses her face.

"And you are?" Annabeth asks, as if she doesn't know them. I've told her about the girls before, she's just taunting them.

"I'm Lydia and this is Allison." Lydia smiles but I can see the sadness in her eyes.

"Nice to meet you." Anna and her stylish clothes seems very intimidating to other females.

I was intimidated by her at first. Her soft personality and loyalty to me were like a breath of fresh air. We fit like yin and yang, she is the best friend I've had.

But she still doesn't know about my deepest secret. I'll have to tell her soon. We can't keep her in the dark, she's going to be in constant danger if she decides to be associated with us.

"Let's go." I whisper and grab Anna's hand with my sweaty one.

This encounter is making my nerves go crazy. I have to leave before I say something I shouldn't. I knew I wasn't ready to come here yet, unnecessary information is going to burst from my mouth if I don't step back as fast as possible.

I sigh as Anna guides me around the shop and towards the car. I'm in no condition to drive so she takes the wheel and drives us home. I plan my speech inside my mind, eager to tell her about the supernatural world.

"Are those girls werewolves like you?"

I choke on my own spit at her words. How does she know about us, about werewolves?

"How- just- how?" I can't even form a coherent sentence.

"You almost killed on every full moon for the past months. I did my research." She smiles proudly at her words.

"And you're not afraid?"

"Why would I be?" She asks. "You didn't actually kill me, you resisted the moon's power over you. It's fine."

"Wow." I whisper under my breath. "Ehh did you keep this from me?"

Anna raises one of her flawless eyebrows at me and smirks. "You didn't tell me you were a werewolf either."

"Touché."

Anna and I spend the rest of the day avoiding the awkward topic, and she clearly doesn't want to touch it either. I know for a fact Allison and Lydia are going to approach me at school. I couldn't give a flying fuck.

Oops, I cursed.

"Anna-"

"Don't." She screams from the kitchen. "I know what you're going to ask. And the answer is no."

"I wasn't going to ask that."

Her head peeks from the door and her raised eyebrows attract my attention. She knows I was totally going to ask that.

"He is going to try and talk to you, for sure." Anna now understands Isaac is also a werewolf. I had to explain everything to her and even the tinies details about our gifts.

To say she was amazed isn't enough. She was crazy about it and wants me to show it to her one day. I just hope she doesn't see me in my werewolf form. It's not pretty.

They say time goes by faster when you're having fun. And that's completely true. It's nighttime when I receive the call.

Excusing myself for a while, I leave the safety and warmth of my new home and run to the building my Pack decided to explore. We know she is going to be there.

"It's almost time."

The twins' voices reach my ears as I stand in the middle of the corridor of the building we know she's in.

With Isaac. Of all people she had to be with Isaac. I don't even want to know what they has been doing together. Inside, I care, I do want to know if there's something going on between them.

Shut up.

The girl crashes the bike and they both tumble to the ground, the bike smashing against the floor, metal scraping tile.

Isaac rolls, slamming into the wall of the corridor. The impact jolts him back to a blurry consciousness, his eyes barely seeing anything around him.

The motorcycle lies a few feet away, one wheel still spinning. Trapped underneath, the Girl doesn't move.

The twins nod from the other end of the corridor, and approach the fallen figures.

The first one to show himself to our guests begins taking off his shirt, pulling it up over his head while continuing to approach. As the shirt falls to the floor, he gets down on all fours.

The second one reaches over and literally shoves his hand into his twin's back. Shocked, Isaac watches the silhouette of the twins being shaped together.

The dark shape of the two conjoining twins rises, growing in size until it finally steps into the light to reveal one monstrously large Alpha. Unleashing a terrifying roar, the Alpha charges, coming at them like an armored truck at full speed.

Mustering his last bit of strength, Isaac tries to stand, eyes glowing a defiant yellow even as the twins hurtle toward him for the kill.

"Isaac." The girl whispers shakily.

My eyes turn to her and I step forward, my body lit by the moonlight.

The twins whirl back to find the girl sitting up and holding a military-grade tweet rifle. Isaac ducks as she fired. Electrified pins hurtle out, landing right on the Alpha's body in a flash of lightening-like sparks.

"Wrong move sister."

Isaac shields his eyes and I knock the girl back, waiting for the twins to regain their strength. But they don't and disappear as fast as they can, leaving me to deal with these two. I roar as a pained scream suddenly become two.

"This isn't over." I threaten, and Isaac uncovers his eyes, searching around to match the voice with a person.

But I'm already hiding in the shadows, ready to follow the twins. They're injured, I'm sure of that. They wouldn't break their bond as an Alpha Wolf without a powerful reason.

The corridor lies empty, slowly filling with the sound of approaching sirens. Isaac turns to the injured, barely conscious girl and looks so confused.

I really am sorry.

No one hears or sees me as I hide behind the trees, my eyes fixated upon Isaac's figure inside the building, his body visible through the windows. Paramedics pull Isaac onto a gurney, preparing to move him out of the scene of the motorcycle crash.

Melissa, Scott's mom, steps into the light, placing a gentle hand on Isaac's brow.

"Just a sec', guys. I know this one." When she sees there's no one around them to interrupt their conversation, she asks. "Isaac, what happened?"

"The girl. She's worse."

"Are you not healing?" Melissa whispers.

"I will. Help her first. Please."

"We gotta' move him, Melissa."

She nods, backing away to allow them past. Then turns to the injured girl who struggles to speak.

I leave before I rip her throats out myself. This girl, Kali's ex-friend or not, chose the wrong guy to mess with.

He's mine.

I roar and run, startling everyone in the scene. I can't help it, I see someone else- a girl, because I know he is not gay- with Isaac and my blood starts boiling inside my veins.

I just hope he doesn't hate me for leaving.

•^•^•^•^•^•

Today is going to be my second first day here at school. And if I didn't enjoy my first one, I know I'm not going to enjoy the second opportunity.

But let's face it, there's no need for second chances. Everyone here knows me already and I don't know what my friends told everyone as an explanation for my sudden disappearance.

The first day of my senior year. Yay.

A sea of backpacks flooding the school lot on the first day of class. Racing past buses and cars, a student hurtles in on a beat-up, used motorcross bike.

As he parks, the helmet comes off to reveal Scott, wearing a proud smile as he lets his eyes examine every inch of the parking lot. Until his eyes land on me. He quickly blinks and shakes his head, giving me time to hide behind a group of giggling juniors.

I can still see him from over one of the girl's shoulder and he doesn't look happy. The smile returns to his face and Scott caresses his bike like it's his most precious possession. But it quickly disappears, this time when he looks over to see a jet black, clearly very expensive bike next to his.

Unnerved, Scott gazes about, trying to spot the owners. But all he sees are ordinary teenagers hurrying inside an ordinary high school. Of course, the twins are already inside, waiting for me.

Let the show start then.

As I open the doors, every eye lands on my figure. I changed since the last time they saw me. My hair is now longer and darker in color, my eyes fierce and almost feline falling upon them. My body is the one that suffered the biggest changes: all the training I've been doing with my new pack and the adversities I faced while running from my problems helped me become a lot slimmer and stronger.

I learned how to wear a dress like a pro with Annabeth. And now I have the body to impress everyone. A completely different Louisa.

I meet the twins halfway through the hall and they nod, flanking my sides like guard dogs. They not at me and can't help but smile. This is going to be one heck of an entrance.

Everyone's eyes are on us, and a fierce sensation runs up my spine. I'm loving this, and the twins' scent says the same. We all love a little show. It's our Pack's thing.

Aiden gestures to a bulletin board where two missing person posters hang side-by-side. Boyd and Erica.

In order to fulfill Deucalion's wishes, both Boyd and Erica had to be abducted. Good thing I chose to stay out of that mission. I wouldn't be brace enough to hurt them. Not that way. But it's my turn to stay at the vault and keep an eye on them. It'll be the first time I see them since they were captured.

"Ready?" Ethan asks.

"Do you even have to ask?" Aiden smacks his twin's head. "Look at the smirk plastered on her face. She is going to smash it."

I only laugh at their comments and strut down the corridor, every guy's thirsty eyes on me, every girl's nasty glares being sent at my back.

My laughs echo around us and the twins shake with laughter.

That's when someone I know catches my eyes. Staying side by side with Allison at her locker- as always- Lydia surveys the faces in the hall. Till her eyes land on me.

She shakes her head and I nod. Both girls seem out of words

"But I don't want a boyfriend. I want a distraction." That's what I heard her say before she saw me. "Like that..."

Allison follows her gaze. Her eyes fall on the twins' helmets on their gloved hands. They look hot. Too bad they're not my type. And one of them is definitely not my type.

If you know what I mean.

Allison and Lydia lift their heads, trying to see through the oncoming crowd.

"Brothers?" Allison asks.

Getting a closer look at us, Lydia smiles.

"Twins."

My two remarkably handsome friends stride down the corridor with ominous purpose, my slightly less threatening body between them.

We share a look, all of us heard their conversation.

I say goodbye to them as I walk towards the well known English Class. One of my favorites back in New York because the teacher was too lazy to teach and we all watched movies instead of learning about Shakespeare.

Before the start of class, I sit back and wait for everyone to arrive. I straighten the short black dress Anna chose for me today and smile. If only Isaac was here to see me like this. What would he say? I don't really want to image what he would do. Soon after the bell rings, Lydia and Allison file in with other students all quickly laying claim to desks for the semester.

Looking about, Allison finds only one empty seat remaining.

Right in front of Scott.

Why is she being to skeptical about sitting near to him? Did something happen while I was gone?

Well clearly.

"Hey. Anyone sitting-"

"No, no one. It's all you. All yours. Totally... Vacant." Once an awkward boy, always an awkward boy. Oh Scotty.

I haven't said or thought that in a while. The nickname I had for him. Scotty. I missed using it.

She sits down and Scott glances over to Stiles who stares back in disbelief at our friend's profound awkwardness.

But then a vibrating turns me to my cellphone on my pocket. It's an incoming message. In fact, every phone in the room begins buzzing, beeping and vibrating with messages.

I raise my phone to look at the message when a confident female voice begins to read it aloud.

"The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds..." Heels clicking across the floor as she enters the room, our teacher, Ms. Jennifer Blake reads from her own cell phone. "...and the tranquil waterway leading to the uttermost ends of the earth flowed somber under an overcast sky..."

Lowering her phone, she speaks the last line from memory.

"...seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness." She looks out to the class, rapt with attention. "That is the last line to the first book we're going to read. It's also the last text you'll receive in this class. Phones off, everyone."

While the others do as instructed, I hesitate, thumb hovering over my phone's display. Then, finally, he choose not to power it down, screen staying vibrant white.

I'm going to receive a very important text in a few minutes. I can't miss it.

As Ms. Blake writes on the blackboard, the Principal steps in to speak with Ms. Blake.

"Mr. McCall?" All eyes turn to Scott as she motions for him to approach.

At the same time he steps out of the classroom, I receive a text from Kali and my blood burns inside my body.

She's gone. Your pretty boy is fine, but SHE is gone!

While Ms. Blake continues her lecture, I notice a few black birds flying around outside our classroom. I can stay for a little longer, maybe even stay till the end of this class.

My head turns to the side as a loud thump is heard. Something hits the window just over my shoulder. Loud enough to turn Ms. Blake from the chalkboard. The students watch her slowly approach to look out when a bird slams right into the window. Our teacher flinches back, a hand coming to her mouth as if to stifle a scream. Another bird flies into the window. Then a third. Dozens of birds appear out of the sky almost instantaneously. They slam violently into the glass, one after another.

A crack ripples through the panes, causing students to rise from their desks.

"Get down. Everyone-" Ms. Blake warns as glass shatters as more birds smash through the windows, filling the room in a spectacular frenzy.

Students tumble out of chairs, desks clatter amid screams and shrieks of panic. Stiles grabs Lydia, pulling her down while Ms. Blake draws students behind her desk.

I hide under my desk but not before being hit in the back of the head. A black bird bites my arm and I flinch.

"Damn." I whisper and clean the now dry blood from my arm.

Perks of being an Alpha. We heal faster.

Finally, the flapping of wings and screeching subsides. Stiles, Lydia, Allison and the other cowering students slowly gaze about at an utterly bizarre sight. Dozens upon dozens of birds lying dead on the classroom floor.

I close my eyes and tell the teacher I'm not feeling well. For the first time since we entered the room, Stiles notices me. And his eyes are hard.

He's mad.

Another text reaches mg phone and I leave school as fast as I can when I receive the confirmation from Kali. I have to meet them at the school's locker room. She will be there. But I have something else to do.

I have to see Isaac.

It's time.

•^•^•^•^•^•

Ennis pushes Isaac's gurney down the corridor, tearing off a glove letting it fall to the floor. The second glove drops down next to the dark and dirty boots underneath his pants. Finally, the surgical mask comes off to reveal his face of the fearsome looking Ennis.

Grabbing a vacant wheelchair, he pulls it next to Isaac's gurney.

Standing in the middle of the corridor, I see every passing nurse and other hospital personnel, and throw nervous glances down each end of the hall, no idea what to do next. I know Ennis is right in front of me but I can't get inside the elevator with him. Isaac will see me.

Oh screw it. I'm going.

With Isaac now in the wheelchair, Ennis backs him into the open elevator. But then, as if sensing something, Ennis slowly looks up. I look back because I know he's not looking at me.

Scott stands at the other end of the corridor. He sees Isaac. Connects eyes with Ennis. And immediately knows. How he hasn't seen me yet is unbelievable.

Scott's fist snaps open to reveal claws. The transformation instantaneous, fangs out, eyes glowing yellow, he launches forward to attack.

Instead of letting him attack Ennis and possibly hurt Isaac, I step forward and, seeing he wasn't expecting another person, push him out of the way. Ennis grins and nods at my actions.

Scott moves faster than I expected and is now inside the elevator. Not losing time to act, I enter, fearing for everyone's safety.

Grinning with anticipation, Ennis snarls a response. His clawed hands come up in defense as Scott hurtles down onto Ennis. But the larger werewolf easily grabs hold of him and slams him into the wall of the elevator.

Still unconscious in the wheelchair, Isaac doesn't even stir as the doors close with a ding, two werewolves grappling right beside him. I just stand in between them and Isaac.

Gotta protect what's ours. Or was.

But Scott is like a puppy attacking a Rottweiler. Ennis smashes him from one wall to the next, knocking the breath and nearly the life out of him.

As the elevator ascends to the next floor, Ennis picks Scott up by the throat, raising him until his head nearly touches the ceiling. The elevator dings again, signaling the doors about to open behind him.

"Don't you realize what you're dealing with? I'm an Alpha."

"Ennis!" I try to warn him but it's too late.

Ennis lurches forward in shock as claws jam into his back. His head twists around to face Derek.

"So am I."

With his free hand, Derek smashes Ennis skull into the wall and then- despite the larger Alpha's size- lifts Ennis off his feet and hurls him right out of the elevator.

Ennis tumbles down the corridor past several shocked Hospital Employees as the elevator doors start shutting and Derek turns to Scott with a look of concern.

His eyes then widen as he takes in my shocked expression.

"Louisa?"

"No, the devil." I roll my eyes and take this as opportunity to get away from them and help Ennis before the doors close.

Leaving both of them speechless.

"Ennis." I call his name as I slap his face to bring him back to consciousness. "Wake up! Ennis!"

I can hear soft feminine footsteps coming our way and Melissa's scent invades my nose. We have to leave. Lucky me, Ennis opens his eyes and drags me towards the elevator.

But it's now empty. No sing of Derek, Scott or Isaac.

Now it's time to catch her.

"Run." Ennis says as I leave him behind the trees just outside the Hospital. "Go!"

"Is not leaving you alone."

"I'm already healing." He shows me his now cured wounds. "I'm an Alpha remember? I'll meet you there."

"So funny." His voice drips sarcasm and I smack the side of his head. "Kali is going to kick you tonight."

"Yeah, in bed."

"Eww!" I shout as I run. I can still hear his laughs all the was down to the school.

The school is almost as desert as my house ok Sundays. Not one single student is seen outside their classes which gives us the perfect opportunity to find her and get the hell out of here.

Our group, now graced with Ennis' presence, shared a devious smile and Kali shakes my shoulder. She needs some support.

The twins and Ennis open the door and enter the room first, followed by Kali and I in the back.

I can smell her fear. The girl is afraid of dying and not being successful in whatever it is she has to do.

She spins from her hiding spot to attack us but I'm faster than the rest of my companions and hit her cheek with my fisted hand. Fighting always brings some joy to my blood-thirsty mind. Since I became an Alpha the thirst for other's blood has been increasing with each passing day.

Blood spattered across her cheeks, her back hits the lockers. She sinks to the floor while, in front of her, I use Deucalion's handkerchief to wipe blood from my hands. As the others drift back, silhouetted figures in the shadows, Deucalion himself reaches out, grasping for something against the wall.

His cane.

The powerful, scary man pulls his dark glasses from a pocket and places them over his eyes.

Blood at her lips, the girl flinches back in front of him. He raises his hand to touch feeling the curves of her cheek.

"Beautiful." His fingers trace over her lips, then to her jawline. "But defiant, aren't you?

"Because I know something... I know you're afraid of him." She speaks with difficulty.

"Of a teenage boy?"

So they're talking about who? Isaac? Is that why Ennis was carrying him in the wheelchair? For some reason I don't believe Isaac is the topic of this conversation. Scott.

"Of the man he'll become." The girl says.

Deucalion shares an amused smile with us. No one gives one back.

"I'm aware of a certain potential threat. But then someone once taught me a very smart way to eliminate threat. Get someone else to do it for you."

As she peers up at him with questioning eyes, I blink in realization.

"Derek." The girl and I both whisper.

Deucalion gently kneels in front of her face, with his fists tightly clenched. Her eyes focus on Deucalion's face, seeing the slightest movement at his lips, a confirmation.

A red glare flashes momentarily behind Deucalion's dark glasses. He lashes out with his claws, a sudden and vicious cut.

Throat slashed, the girl slumps down, cheek hitting the cement floor of the locker room. Darkness creeping slowly in around her, her eyes finally flutter closed.

I flinch as her eyes close, never opening again. Deucalion smiles with his victory and I don't follow my pack mates as they start collecting their stuff and cleaning the evidences a fight has taken place here.

"I can't believe we did this." I whisper and grab my chest, right above my beating heart.

"You killed an entire pack and you're feeling remorse about this girl?" Aiden says as the rest of the pack disappears with the girl on Ennis' shoulders.

What have I become?

•^•^•^•^•^•
