Little boy opens house door, rushes in and straight up the stairs

Mother comes from kitchen and calls

"Billy! Billy you come down here right this minute."

Billy comes slowly down the stairs, eyes averted

"Billy what have you been up to, and what are you hiding behind your back?"

"Nothing, momma."

"Don't lie to me, I can see- oh- and it's dripping on my stair carpet."

Mother goes up to son and pulls arm around

"Billy! Oh, my heavens! Give me your other hand."

Mother and son stand on the stairs staring at one another.

"How many times have you been told to stay out of your grandfather's tool box? You get right upstairs and get yourself cleaned up before your stepfather, the count, gets home."

Billy turns and slumps up the stairs slowly.

"I mean hurry, Billy."

"Yeeeessss, momma . . ."

Billy runs quickly

Mother holds out the bloody stake and mallet, shaking her head

"And don't you dare sass me, Billy van Helsing!"
