009. i can see you

When the announcer called Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do up to the mat, Mackenzie took a spot next to Yoon and her head craned back to see who would fill the spot on her other side. Mackenzie perked up when she saw Tory heading to the empty spot beside her.

But as soon as Tory actually turned to look at the spot she was walking toward, she froze as her eyes landed right on her sister.

Mackenzie's face fell and her eyes softened watching Tory look away from her and to the middle of the mat. When Tory saw Robby walking toward the center, her steps sped up again, practically running to the middle and shoving Kwon out of the way.

Kwon ended up taking the empty spot next to Mackenzie and when the fight started, Tory ran at Robby, throwing every punch and kick she could at him. Mackenzie was honestly nervous for Robby. She knew how powerful Tory's fighting could be when she was angry or upset. Mackenzie's seen it her entire life.

Tory kicked Robby's forearm, but she didn't earn a point since it was blocked. Robby stumbled back from the kick and looked around for the next closest teammate to tag in.

He rolled toward Sam, who had her hand stretched out for him and Mackenzie watched nervously when a small chuckle on her side made her turn her head.

Mackenzie's eyes landed on Kwon, who was wearing a big, shit eating grin. "Lovers quarrel? Am I right?" He asked in a teasing tone. Mackenzie squinted at the boy and Kwon's eyebrows furrowed in a faux-confusion. "Tory and Robby... You and Axel... Being on opposite sides must be hard for love."

Mackenzie just glared back at the boy and Kwon scoffed, almost rolling his eyes. "Tough crowd..." He muttered under his breath as he and Mackenzie turned back to the fight just as Sam grabbed Tory's leg and threw her to the ground.

The blonde landed right at Kwon's feet and with her arm unintentionally stretched out, Kwon tagged himself in. He bolted toward Sam, letting out a battle cry as he jumped into the air, both of his legs rising while he started to spin. Sam was able to dodge the first kick, but she didn't have time to block the second before she was kicked in the head.

"Point!" The referee yelled as Sam collapsed right in front of Mackenzie.

"Sam!" Mackenzie yelled, her hand out for Sam to tag her in. Mackenzie would feel good fighting Kwon especially after he tried to jump her and Axel in the alley the night before so when Sam reached forward and slapped her hand against Mackenzie's, the blonde instantly jumped over Sam and ran at Kwon.

She threw two punches back to back and when Kwon tried to kick her in the stomach, she jumped back, the kick barely missing her. Mackenzie spun around and raised her leg to kick Kwon in the face, but he ducked, Mackenzie's foot missing him by inches.

Kwon ran toward one of his teammates, hoping to tag him in while Mackenzie stuck her landing, but she saw him run to his teammate and kicked her leg out higher, tripping him. The second Kwon hit the ground, Mackenzie ran toward him, raised her leg, and kicked him in the stomach.

"Point! Miyagi-Do 1-1!"

Kwon rolled away from Mackenzie, ignoring the pain in his gut as he tagged Yoon in. Mackenzie was buzzing with adrenaline, especially being alone in the circle. She ran at Yoon, not giving him the time to make the first move as he joined the fight. She aimed to kick in the side, stomach, and head, but the boy blocked all three. Yoon aimed to punch her, but Mackenzie got down to the ground and slid on her knees right under his arm.

She got back up fast and ran toward Yoon while his back was still turned. Just before she could kick him and earn her team another point, Yoon turned around and he ducked under her kick.

Once he was standing back up again, Mackenzie was throwing punches at him. Yoon raised his arms, blocking all of her hits with his forearms and Mackenzie tried to throw him off by aiming to knee his side, but he grabbed Mackenzie's leg. Instead of striking her in the chest, like Mackenzie would've done if she was in his shoes, Yoon drove his knee up, knocking her off balance and making her fall backward.

Mackenzie's back hit the ground hard. She felt a shooting pain go up her spine and she winced to hold back a whimper. Her eyes shut as the pain traveled up her neck and a headache started to grow from the back of her head ricocheting off the mat.

"Kenzie, open your hand!" She could hear someone say from her left. Their voice sounded a little distorted from the ringing in her ears and the thumping of Yoon's footsteps coming toward her, but she turned her head and saw Demetri just a foot away from her with his hand outstretched for her.

Mackenzie didn't waste a second slapping Demetri's hand and just like she did with Sam, Demetri jumped over Mackenzie, his leg stretched out to kick Yoon.

Demetri wouldn't stop. He just kept attacking Yoon. Kept moving. He didn't land any points, but Mackenzie could tell that wasn't what Demetri's was going for. He was trying to drain Yoon's stamina.

Demetri ended up tagging Eli in and he ran toward Yoon, jumping into the air and raising his fist to punch the boy in the face. Yoon reached out for his arms and tugged him to the side. Eli's footing stumbled for a second, but he quickly recovered and blocked a handful of Yoon's punches before sending a couple of his own.

Hawk's fists were fast, and everyone could see the frantic look in Yoon's eyes as he blocked all of them. Suddenly, Yoon started to subtly move toward his team to switch out, but Demetri saw it.

"Eli!" He screamed, watching as Yoon ran toward the Cobra Kai beside him to switch places.

Hawk made it to Demetri before Yoon made it to his teammate. As soon as Demetri was in, he kicked Yoon's hand away from the other Cobra Kai when he was just a few inches from getting out. Yoon stumbled back and Demetri jumped to try and squeeze a kick in. Yoon's eyes widened and he raised his hands at the last second, blocking it.

Demetri cursed to himself. Even though he got Yoon away from the one team member, he started to realize that Yoon was backing up rather quickly, his eyes moving behind him to Kwon every few seconds.

"He's slowing down! Don't let him tag out!" Hawk yelled as Demetri sent two more kicks and three more punches. With every move he threw at Yoon, Demetri maneuvered around to detour him away from Kwon and back toward the center of the mat. Demetri switched from going high and going low, and he was starting to see Yoon get tired out.

"Demetri!" Kenny yelled from the boy's right.

Demetri ran toward Kenny, tagging him in, and bending down. Kenny threw his back against Demetri's, rolled over him and came at Yoon full force. Yoon's movements stuttered, earning himself a kick to the face.

"Point! Miyagi-Do, 2-1!" The referee yelled as Yoon and Kenny both hit to the floor, Yoon falling and Kenny landing on his feet.

Kenny ran to Miguel the second he landed and from across the mat, Yoon scrambled onto his feet to tag Kwon in.

The two boys circled each other, Kwon smirking as he held his arms out. "Okay, let's go, number two." He taunted. Miguel's jaw clenched, immediately getting into his fighting stance. Kwon let out a yell before he ran toward Miguel. They went back and forth. Miguel blocking Kwon's kicks, Kwon blocking Miguel's.

Kwon started to throw as many punches as he could and when Miguel raised his hands to block them, Kwon grabbed Miguel's arm and twisted it. Miguel yelled in pain and having the opening, Kwon punched him in the stomach.

"Point! Cobra Kai, 2-2! Next point wins!"

Miguel fell back at the impact of the punch and before Kwon could come at him again and get Cobra Kai their last point, Miguel tagged Robby in. Mackenzie let out a nervous breath from the other end of the circle, her finger drumming against the side of her thigh again unknowingly as Kwon ran at Robby.

He went to throw a kick, but Robby raised his own leg, blocking it. When he pushed Kwon back, the Cobra Kai boy chuckled. "It's about time. Let's see what you've got."

Robby ran at Kwon, sending a kick toward the boy's head, but Kwon blocked it in the knick of time. On and on, Robby played offense, not even giving Kwon time to hit him with his own moves.

Robby kicked Kwon's head, the hit getting blocked by Kwon's hand. The power of the punch made Kwon stumble and he laughed, his confidence barely even budging.

He moved to offense, aiming to kick Robby's face, but Robby leaned back, barely dodging it. Kwon kept attacking and when he tried to punch Robby, the Keene boy grabbed Kwon's fist and twisted to the side, throwing Kwon onto his back. As Kwon rolled onto his stomach to stand, Robby grabbed a fistful of his hair and pulled until Kwon was upright, still on his knees.

Kwon yelled and from the edge of the circle, getting angrier by the second. Mackenzie watched as Kwon knocked Robby's hand away and pushed forward, trying to shove Robby off. Instead, Robby grabbed Kwon's shoulders and flipped him over, sending him crashing onto his back again.

Robby got back on his feet, turning just in time to see Kwon already standing. They circled each other, Kwon's face red with anger before he charged, throwing a series of kicks, but Robby didn't block them. He stepped back, moving just out of reach.

Robby backed up right into Tory's arms, and Mackenzie's heart dropped watching her sister hold tightly onto Robby's arms, almost keeping him in place for Robby.

But just as Kwon's kick was about to land, Tory pushed Robby out of the way. Mackenzie let out a small breath of relief as Robby stumbled. Her gaze stayed on Tory, her eyes softening staring at her sister.

It didn't take long for Tory to get that itchy feeling of someone watching her and considering Robby was in the middle of fighting Kwon, she knew who was staring at her.

Tory's eyes locked onto Mackenzie's like magnets. Mackenzie could read her sister like a book. She knew Tory like the back of her hand until Cobra Kai shimmied it's way into their lives. This whole trip, this whole time in Barcelona, Mackenzie didn't know where her sister stood. She didn't even see the same Tory she's been watching slowly get better since joining Cobra Kai.

But looking now, Mackenzie could see her sister clear as day. She could see the little five year old that insisted on putting Chocolate syrup in her noodles like in Elf, she could see the eleven year old that would walk with Mackenzie to the grocery store every week while their mom was at work, she could see the fourteen year old that would go practice driving with Mackenzie even though she was terrified seeing her sister behind the wheel and most importantly, Mackenzie could see the seventeen year old she saw not even two weeks ago. The girl that was finally rebuilding connections with the people on her team.

Mackenzie smiled at the memories and her heart lurched when she saw got the faintest smile back from Tory.

A loud scream and a smack the mat from Kwon was what pulled Tory and Mackenzie's eyes away from each other and back to the fight. Mackenzie's breath hitched again but this time is was watching both boys run at each other and jump into the air. They both kicked their legs out in hopes they would kick the other in the face

Mackenzie's eyes were glued on the two. She didn't want to miss a second.

And she didn't miss Robby's kick hitting Kwon first.

Kwon hit the ground with a loud thump while Robby landed much more gracefully than his opponent had.

It was eerily silent in the arena until the referee stepped forward with a raised hand pointed toward Miyagi-Do.

"Point! Miyagi-Do wins!" The referee yelled and Mackenzie stood completely still. Shock was the only thing she felt for a second hearing that they just won. That they were making it to the fucking Tournament of Champions!

"Holy shit!" Mackenzie practically cackled once her mind started to catch up to the situation. She ran toward the center of the mat as the rest of her team did the same, everyone going to make a group hug around Robby.

"With the win, Miyagi-Do advances to the tournament of champions!"

As the group hug started to die out, Robby was pulled into a personal hug with Miguel, who shouted some cheer before pulling him into a hug. Mackenzie's eyes looked around her team and when her eyes landed on Sam, Mackenzie let out a happy cheer, running up to the girl and practically jumping into her arms.

"You're going to the championship, girl!" Mackenzie yelled into Sam's ear. She could hear the brunette giggle as she hugged her back.

"We are going to the championship!" Sam yelled back over the audience and their own teams cheers.

With her arms still around Sam, Mackenzie looked around the rest of the arena. It was like she was being drawn somewhere, her eyes taking her somewhere her brain didn't know.

When her eyes locked with Axel's, still standing with his team, but smiling at Miyagi-Do's victory, Mackenzie hugged Sam tighter and smiled back to the boy. Mackenzie knew he could react any more than that, especially with Wolf and Silver practically breathing down his neck so she took what she could get.

As the two girls pulled away from their hug, their smiles fell as Cobra Kai slowly walk by, frowns on all of their faces, but Mackenzie only cared about Tory's.

Feeling eyes on her, Tory stopped walking with her team and looked up to see who was watching her. Her eyes widened just a bit when she saw her sister and Sam standing in front of her.

Mackenzie's mind practically raced a mile per minute. Her chest was visibly heaving before she pushed herself forward, pushed away the anger and sadness she's been feeling toward her sister and pulled her into a hug. She felt Tory tense in her arms, but Mackenzie didn't pull away. She actually squeezed harder.

"I wish you could be celebrating with us." She murmured into Tory's shoulder.

Tory let out a breath she didn't even know she had been holding in. A weight lifted off her shoulders. Mackenzie wasn't mad at her. She didn't lose her mom and her sister. Mackenzie was there.

Her arms wrapped around Mackenzie before she knew it. She hugged her sister tight like it would be the last time.

When they pulled away, Tory struggled to meet Mackenzie's eyes, but she did it. She looked back and forth between her and Sam. No smiling, just looking before she turned her head and followed after the rest of her team.

Mackenzie's eyes stayed on Tory as she walked away and Sam took a small step toward her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

"She'll come around." Sam whispered and all Mackenzie could do was nod along with Sam's words, her eyes still following her sister out of the room.
