Huge problems
The next night, Madison snuck out of her house to go meet up with Derek and the rest of the pack at the railway depot. Erica went off to kidnap Jackson to prove a hunch Derek had, and Madison stayed back with him and Isaac, as she was keeping a low profile with people from her past life.
"So you think Jackson is the kanima?" Madison asks him quietly as they sit on a block of concrete.
"It's just a hunch," Derek replies as he shrugs, making eye contact with Madison.
"By the way, you look hot in all black," Madison whispers to Derek in a flirtatious way. "It makes you look mysterious as hell."
"Stop flirting with me," Derek remarks as breaks eye contact with Madison and tries to hold back a smile. "Isaac is right over there."
"I'm sure he won't say anything," Madison replies, not even hiding the smile on her face.
"We can't risk it and you know that," Derek snaps before Erica comes storming down the stairs with a very frustrated Jackson. Isaac walks over to hold his other arm as Derek is messing with the piece of glass in his hand, avoiding eye contact with everyone, especially Madison.
Jackson lets out a frustrated sigh before noticing Madison sitting next to Derek with a smirk on her face and her arms crossed over her chest, leaning back on the pillar that was right behind her. "Madison?" He asks, his voice giving away how shocked he is. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"Can't a girl switch things up?" Madison asks him before shrugging, but then she laughs before adding "I got tired of Scott's shit, that's all."
"What happened to you on the night of the full moon?" Derek questions. Jackson immediately looks over at him with a confused look.
"What?" He asks, still seeming very frustrated. "Nothing! Nothing happened."
Derek looks up at Jackson and looks him in the eyes before saying “You're lying.” Derek sets the piece of glass on his leg before grabbing a pair of gloves that were next to him and puts them on, which made Jackson nervous.
“No, wait! No, wait! I can-I can prove it.” Derek raises his eyebrows to let Jackson know he can keep talking. “I taped myself.” His comment made both Madison and Isaac laugh.
“You taped yourself?” Isaac asks him, sounding very amused.
“Well this should be fun,” Madison comments with a smile on her face, sounding just as amused as Isaac.
“Yes- it was the full moon,” Jackson remarks, sounding very agitated. “And maybe, while you were curled in the corner, having an existential crisis about turning into a monster, I was preparing for the gift your so-called Alpha promised me. And what did I get? Nothing.” Jackson looks between everyone before looking at Derek and adds “You want proof? Let me get the video.”
“No,” Derek answers after a few seconds with a small smile on his face before grabbing the piece of glass off of his leg. He looks down at it before moving the reflective side towards Jackson. “I have a better idea.”
“What is that?” Jackson asks, sounding very scared. Erica and Isaac force Jackson down onto his knees as Derek stands up and walks over to the three of them.
“You know, Jackson, you've always been kind of a snake,” Derek comments, ignoring Jackson’s question as he holds the glass in his hands. “And everyone knows a snake can't be poisoned by its own venom.” Erica and Isaac hold Jackson’s mouth open as Derek brings the glass to his mouth before tilting it, letting the kanima venom slide down into Jackson’s mouth. Madison stands up from where she’s sitting and stands next to Derek as they all watch Jackson’s reaction to the venom.
Derek looks over at Isaac before looking back down at Jackson and sighs. He slowly walks over to Jackson and bends down to his eye level before saying “You're still a snake, Jackson. Just not the one we're looking for.” Derek pushes himself off of the ground and walks into the train car, with Madison following closely behind.
“You okay?” She asks, leaning against the frame.
“I’m fine,” Derek replies as he sets the glass down on the seat next to him before removing the gloves.
“I don’t have to have supernatural hearing to know that you’re lying,” Madison remarks before walking over to him and kneels down in front of him. “What’s wrong?”
“What you did in front of Isaac out there was not okay,” Derek answers in a soft tone. “We’re keeping us a secret, remember?”
“I know, and I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you, I swear.”
“I know you didn’t,” Derek replies as he sits the gloves on top of the piece of glass. “And thank you, for earlier.”
“What do you mean?” Madison asks as she notices the smile on his face.
“For the compliment,” Derek answers, which makes Madison smile and nod.
“You’re welcome.” Derek stands up and looks down at Madison with a smile on his face.
“Oh, and by the way, you look really hot right now,” Derek notes, making Madison smile even more and causes her cheeks to turn red.
“Thank you,” Madison responds, trying to hide the blush on her face.
“I so want to kiss you right now,” Derek admits in a low voice.
“You can come to my house tonight if you want,” Madison suggests as she shrugs. “And we can do more than kiss.” Madison smirks before looking back at Isaac and Erica, who were in the middle of their own conversation. Madison looks back at Derek before saying “Okay, I think we need to argue on our way out so they don’t suspect anything.”
Derek clears his throat as he nods before saying “Good idea.”
“Okay, and I’m sorry in advance if this goes incredibly wrong.” Madison storms out of the train car in anger and says “I swear to god, Derek. I’ve already told you that I’m a part of your pack. None of this is going to Scott.” Madison stops a few feet away from the stairs and turns around to face Derek, who was standing in front of her.
“How can I trust you with this information?” Derek asks.
“You just have to,” Madison answers, her voice in a ‘duh’ tone.
Derek laughs before commenting “Yeah, trust the person with an abusive and drunk mother? Who says you won’t turn out to be exactly like her?” As soon as those words left Derek’s mouth, he instantly felt bad, but he couldn’t show it in fear of Isaac and Erica finding out.
Madison shakes her head before smacking him across the face and storming up the stairs and to her car. She unlocks it as tears roll down her face, but then she hears someone approaching her, so she says “I don’t want to talk to you right now.”
“Well that’s harsh considering I didn’t do anything,” she hears Isaac say, causing her to turn around and see the smirk on his face.
“I’m sorry, I thought you were Derek,” Madison answers honestly as she wipes the tears off of her face.
“It’s totally okay,” Isaac states as he nods. “I mean, it must be hard trying to hide your guys’ relationship.” Madison’s face falls in fear. “Don’t worry, I won’t say anything.”
“Does Erica know?” Madison asks, sounding hesitant.
“Yeah, she does, but she told me that she won’t say anything,” Isaac admits.
Madison scoffs as she runs a hand through her hair before saying “Derek is going to kill me.” She puts her hands on her hips before saying “Look, I have to go. My mom doesn’t know that I’m gone, and if she finds out-”
“I get it,” Isaac interrupts. “Go.” Madison gives him a thankful look before hopping into her car, putting her keys in the ignition and driving off to her house.

Madison pulls up to her house and sees that the living room light is on. She lets out a shaky breath before turning her car off and getting out, locking her car behind her. She slowly walks to her front door and opens the door, closing the door behind her, only to hear her mom arguing with someone. When she gets into the living room, she sees Sarah sitting in a chair with a face full of tears and her mom is yelling at her. Sarah puts her attention to Madison, and their mom immediately follows her gaze, seeing Madison standing in the doorway.
“And where the hell did you go?” her mom yells at her.
“To a friend's house,” Madison lies as she avoids eye contact with her mom.
“Look at me when you’re talking to me, Madison,” her mom demands, and Madison immediately looks up at her mom.
“I’m sorry,” Madison pleads.
“Keys and phone, now,” her mom says as she holds her hand out. “You’re grounded until I say so.”
“Why?”
“I don’t need a reason, I’m your mother. Now give me your keys and phone before I threaten other things, got it?” Madison nods as she hands her keys to her mom and pulls her phone out of her pocket. And as soon as she does, her phone rings and the caller ID says it’s Derek. Her mom takes her phone from her and answers it. “This is her mom. She’s grounded and can’t have visitors. And whoever this is, I suggest you delete her number.” She hangs up and looks at Madison.
“How am I going to get to school?” Madison asks as she keeps her eyes on her mom.
“Your sister can take you, and as long as she’s living under my roof, then she obliges by my rules.” She turns to Sarah, who was still crying in the chair, and says “You will only use your car to take her to school and to drive to work. You can’t hang out with any of your friends and the only place you’re allowed to go is work. Work and home, understand?”
“Yes, I understand,” Sarah mutters out as she looks up at her mom.
“And Madison, you are only allowed to go to school and home, got it?”
“Yes,” Madison answers.
“You guys can go.” Madison immediately turns around and walks upstairs, and into her room. She softly closes her door and locks it as tears roll down her cheeks. She walks over to her window and opens it a crack before walking into her bathroom. She makes eye contact with her sister and smiles sadly at her before closing the door and locking it.
Madison walks over to the sink and opens the medicine cabinet, grabbing a bottle of pills and opens them. She pours them into her hand and looks down at them before muttering to herself “Weak and pathetic.” She throws them all into her mouth and swallows them dry. And once the pills kick in, she falls to the floor, and her pulse stops.
