Never ending problems

Madison went to school on Monday, completely terrified when she'll run into Stiles, who she hasn't seen since Friday night. She's in the girls bathroom, glancing at her appearance as she gathers up courage to walk to her first class, which she has with Stiles- as well as Scott and Allison.

She's wearing a black crop top, with a black and green flannel over it, a pair of ripped jeans and a belt holding them up. A pair of doc martens on her feet with a ring on her left index finger and a necklace resting on her chest. She smooths out her hair one last time before letting out a frustrated sigh and picking her backpack up off of the floor. Swinging it over her shoulder, she walks out of the girls bathroom and out into the hall, heading to her first class of the day.

On her way there, her brain wanders at what happened over the weekend. Her fight with Derek, her moment with Stiles, and what happened with Sarah's ex that morning. The moment she had with Carter after opening up to him about her family's history and the entire thing that happened in the woods. Her makeup sex with Derek and the after care.

Madison focuses more on the pack meeting they had yesterday more than anything else.

"I think we should all talk about what happened on Friday," Madison suggests after Derek's lecture about his plan that he discussed on Friday. Boyd was now there and standing in between her and Erica with his arms crossed over his chest.

"What's there to talk about?" Derek questions, his tone firm as he looks at her. Only she can see what's in his eyes and she has to fight back the smile that's threatening her lips.

"I know you said some things you didn't mean to say and I believe that you should apologize to Isaac for snapping at him. You apologized to me, so it's only fair you apologize to him."

"I apologized to you because I actually felt bad for what I said to you." Isaac scoffs from next to him and Derek turns as he crosses his arms above his chest and furrows his brows at Isaac. "Care to share what that scoff was for?"

"You only apologized to her for the sex," Isaac retorts and then everyone's eyes widened in shock- Boyd being more shocked than the others.

"Isaac!" Madison shouts

"I forgot Boyd didn't know! I'm sorry!"

"You and Derek?" Boyd shouts, his voice cracking in shock.

"That doesn't matter right now, okay?" Madison states and looks at Derek with a stern facial expression. "Apologize to him, now."

"Okay, fine," Derek says as he turns to Isaac, hating that he has to apologize to his beta. "I'm sorry for snapping at you."

"That didn't sound genuine," Isaac speaks, a hint of a smile on his lips.

Derek huffs as he turns to Madison, seeming frustrated. "I apologized already. I'm not doing it again."

"Stop messing with him, Isaac," Madison says as she bites back a smile. "I think that's the best you're going to get."

"Oh my god, I'm leaving," Derek says before walking out of the railway depot. The rest of his pack laugh at him before engaging in small conversation, completely avoiding the topic of Madison's relationship with Derek.

Madison reaches her classroom, but before she walks in, her eyes land on Stiles and they both stop when they notice each other. Their eyes both roam each other's bodies, taking in what the other is wearing. Stiles is wearing a black shirt and a black and gray flannel on top of it, a pair of blue pants and a pair of black shoes.

"Hey," Madison says to him as she fidgets with her ring, a small smile on her face.

"Hey," He replies and swallows the lump in his throat as he looks at her. "Um, nice flannel."

Madison looks down at her body and looks back up at him as she lets out a laugh. "Thanks. You too."

"Uh, thanks." Madison nods as a lump forms in her throat and memories of what happened between them run through her head.

"Well, we should probably get into class," Madison suggests and Stiles nods in response before he walks in, her following right behind him. Once they sit down, Madison runs a hand through her hair, mentally cursing at herself for what just happened. The bell rings and students pile into the room, taking their seats quickly so the teacher can get started. Madison's eyes stay on her desk as Scott and Allison walk in and sit down in their seats.

Scott looks over at Madison and sees her shifting in her seat uncomfortably. He glances back at Stiles, causing Stiles to look up when he feels Scott's eyes on him. What's with her? He mouths to him and Stiles shrugs in response. Scott's eyes furrowed in confusion as he turned to face the front. The four teenagers sit in the tension filled room through the entire class, wanting to get out of that room as fast as possible.

Madison gets home that day and immediately heads to her room, thankful that her mom isn't home yet. When she gets into her room, she sees Sarah sitting on her bed. "What are you doing in my room?" Madison asks as she puts her bag next to her desk and sits down in her desk chair. Her sister is wearing a sweater and a pair of jeans with a pair of red converse. She has her legs crossed as she sits at the edge of Madison's bed.

"I wanted to see how your day was," Sarah responds as she looks at Madison.

"It was boring. Scott, Stiles and Allison all got detention. I'm glad I wasn't in the mix of that."

"What did they get detention for?"

"I have no clue and it's not really any of my business. But it was so awkward between me and Stiles this morning when we walked into English. But today in general was just awkward as hell and I'm just tired and drained and I have no idea what to do next."

"Well, I know you made up with Derek considering the sex you two had on Saturday," Sarah comments. Madison rolls her eyes in response. "Come on, I'm just teasing."

"Why tease me when we could be reading spells," Madison suggests before getting up and walking over to the box her dad had left her and Sarah. She picks it up and throws it onto her bed.

"What's the point? You've read every damn spell book in this house and have memorized almost every spell."

"There has to be something in this box that dad left us that could help you," Madison points out as Sarah turns to face Madison, her legs still crossed. Madison opens the box and takes out the crystal on the top.

Sarah grabs it and examines it as Madison continues to empty the box out onto her bed. "What does this do again?" Sarah asks and Madison looks at her sister, her face softening as she sees what she's holding.

"It lets you talk to the person you want to talk to. Just think of them and they appear."

"Have you used it?"

"Once," Madison replies as she nods and goes back to emptying the box. "It was a long time ago and a complete accident."

"Who did you talk to?"

Madison looks back at Sarah and swallows the lump in her throat, trying to push back all the tears forming in her eyes. "Uh, dad," Madison replies, removing her gaze off of her sister once again. "We talked about life and how the prism thing worked. It was nice. You know, until I was sobbing uncontrollably on the floor." Madison lets out an exhausted laugh as she picks up the empty box and throws it on the floor.

"That's everything?" Sarah questions as she looks at all the things and Madison nods in response. "Is there anything that can help with my powers? Or lack thereof?"

"I honestly don't know," Madison responds before laughing. "You know, it could be a psychological thing. Maybe you don't want the pressure that comes with being a witch."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know." Madison shrugs as she walks to the other side of her bed and sits down next to Sarah. "Maybe a part of you doesn't want to learn because dad is dead." Sarah turns to face Madison and lets out a sigh.

"Well, you do magic and you were a lot closer with dad than I ever was," Sarah points out. "What would that do with me not wanting to do magic?"

"I honestly have no clue," Madison responds and lets out a frustrated sigh. "We'll try everything we can to figure this out. Until then, I don't honestly know what we're going to do." Madison pushes up off of her bed and walks to her desk and grabs her keys and cell phone.

"Where are you going?"

"To Derek's," Madison responds before walking out of her room and downstairs. She walks out of the house and to her car, heading towards the depot.

°°°°

Once Madison pulls up to the depot, she storms out of her car and inside. She gets to the bottom of the stairs and sees Derek doing push-ups on the floor. Her breath catches as she watches him do them, his muscles flexing every time he does one. She takes in his appearance, seeing that he's wearing a pair of jeans, black tennis shoes and a green long sleeve shirt.

Derek stops in a plank position and looks up, making eye contact with Madison. "Is there something you need to talk about or are you just going to keep watching me like you want to rip all my clothes off?" Derek asks and Madison's cheeks redden as Derek gets up from the ground.

"Well, both, but mostly the first one," Madison admits after clearing her throat and Derek laughs as she walks closer to him.

"So what's up?"

"How much do you know about witches?" Madison asks, her eyes looking in his with a pleading look. Derek folds his arms above his chest as he lets out a breath, his eyes roaming over Madison's body and back at her eyes.

"Not much if I'm being honest," He answers honestly. "All I know is what you've said and a few things I've heard growing up about them."

"What did you hear?"

"Just that they're really powerful and can blow your head off if they really wanted to." Both of them laugh as Madison runs a hand through her disheveled hair, but their laughs die down almost immediately. "That and they're some of the nicest, most badass people on the planet."

Madison smiles at Derek, but looks back down at the floor and lets out a sigh. "I just feel so defenseless all the damn time," Madison admits as she avoids looking at Derek. She laughs, sounding exhausted as she pushes back the urge to cry.

"Well, we never finished that training session the other day," Derek offers and Madison's head snaps up, her eyes softening as she looks at him. "We can take that step now if you want."

"Yes please!" Madison exclaims before removing her flannel and tossing it to the side. Derek laughs as she grabs the ponytail on her wrist and pulls her hair back into a high ponytail.

The two spend the next hour and half training, Derek teaching her everything to help her with fighting. After he throws her onto the ground for the hundredth time, Madison lets out a sigh as she pushes herself up off the ground.

"Do you want to take a break?" Derek asks, looking at her and noticing her breaths are shallow and her body is sweating.

"Nope," Madison remarks and she shakes her head before getting back into position. Before they can continue, the door swings open and they hear people scurrying down the stairs. They snap their attention towards them and see that it's Scott and Stiles carrying a spasming Erica in their arms.

"What the hell happened?" Derek exclaims, his voice giving off how frustrated he is.

"She got scratched by the kanima and she just started having a seizure," Stiles explains before the five of them rush into the abandoned train and circle around her.

"Hold her up," Derek demands as he rolls the sleeves of his shirt up a bit and Stiles lays Erica's head in his lap. Madison lets out a frustrated sigh from beside Scott and Stiles.

Stiles looks at her and back at Derek before asking, "Is she dying?"

"She might. I-" He reaches over to grab her arm and wraps his hands around it, "Which is why this is gonna hurt." He twists it in half, snapping the bone and Erica screams out in pain.

"You broke her arm!"

"It'll trigger the healing process. I still gotta get the venom out-" He lets out a sigh before adding, "-this is where it's really gonna hurt." Derek digs his fingers into her arm and blood drops onto the newspaper that was underneath her arm. Erica screams out more and Madison winces, hating that she's in so much pain.

Erica smiles weakly at Stiles before saying, "Stiles- you make a good Batman..." After a couple minutes, Erica passes out and Stiles stays in the train car with her in his arms. Derek, Madison and Scott all exit the car, walking over to the table in the room.

"You know who it is," Scott says to Derek when they approach the table and Derek lets out a sigh before turning around to face Scott and Madison. He leans back on the table and rests his hands next to him.

"Jackson," Derek says.

"You just wanted Erica to confirm it, didn't you?" Derek nods in response as Madison folds her arms above her chest and looks at Derek. "I'm gonna help you stop him- as part of your pack. If you want me in, fine. But, we'll do it on one condition- we're gonna catch him, not kill him."

"And?"

"And we do it my way."

Madison sighs from beside Scott before asking, "Why can't we just kill him? I mean, the guy is a freaking dick."

Derek looks at Madison and stifles a laugh with a fist as Scott sighs in irritation. "Because that's not always the answer, Madison," Scott responds and she scoffs in response.

"And neither is cheating, Scott," Madison throws back as she turns to look at him. "Yet here we are."

"Okay, I don't get it. I've apologized and apologized for it and you still won't forgive me. What the hell can I do to get you to not be mad at me anymore?"

"Look, it wasn't just you cheating on me, which did hurt me, a lot." Madison pauses and lets out a sigh, looking over at Derek and noticing his soft expression on his face as they make eye contact for a split second. She looks back at Scott and the irritation returns to her body. "It's the fact that I never thought you, of all people, would do something like this, especially to me. I thought I could trust you and here we are- me not trusting you because of a mistake that you made."

A tear rolls down Madison's cheek as she lets out a shaky breath. "Now, if you don't mind, I have to get home before my mom does," Madison says as she grabs her keys off of the table Derek was leaning against and her flannel off of the floor. She puts the flannel on and looks at Derek. "See you tomorrow for more training?"

Derek only nods in response and Madison flashes him a small smile before walking out of the depot and to her car, getting inside and immediately driving home.
